NFL 2008 Off Season Thread

So, there has been a lot of coaching changes so far with many spots left..

My beloved Saints hired former Ole Miss Head Coach Ed Orgeron as their new DL Coach.. He was pretty much a shit Head Coach for U of M but is supposedly one of the best recruiting guys in college ball.. Might help us out in the draft and free agency..

The Falcons hired the Jags former D Coord Mike Smith.. I don't really know alot about the guy but that the Jags have had a pretty good D since he's been down there (2002 I think)..

Have Ravens filled their spot?? The Redskins??

What college players do you want in the draft??

I can't wait for next year..

:wavesad:

Who Dat??

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-24-2008 08:50 PM

The Ravens hired John harbaugh (brother of Jim, former QB/now coach at Stanford) as their headcoach, they also hired Cam Cameron (just fired as the Dolphins head coach) as the OC.

I want the Patriots to trade their #7 pick for more picks, I don't think any player they could get their would be worth the money they would be getting. Plus you never know it could be a bust anyway.

Falcons gotta draft Matt Ryan, dunno what the Dolphins are gonna do. They probably wanna trade the #1 pick but nobody is gonna want it. Gonna take Dorsey I guess, not really a very "sexy" first round pick but neither was Mario Williams and seems to be alright

Kris P Lettus 01-24-2008 08:55 PM

Pats def need to trade that pick.. Not like they need another "impact player" right now and would do much better going for depth..

Saints have got to sure up the D.. I have no idea what we can do with Jason "The Biggest Piece of Shit in the League" David, what with signing him to a 3 year like 15 million dollar deal.. Horrible, horrible pick up.. I hope this offseason is like two years ago, not last year's..

Nervous Ferret 01-24-2008 09:13 PM

Almost positive I saw Jim Fassel hired as Redskins head coach

Kris P Lettus 01-24-2008 09:18 PM

I heard him mentioned but never saw anything def I don't think..

Crimson 01-24-2008 09:52 PM

Whatever happned to guys like Ron Rivera, Mike Singeltary, and a couple of other hot names that were last year. I'm hoping Dallas stays put and keeps those 1st rounders . Hoping for a corner and a rb here ..Talib and Mendenhall hopefully.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-25-2008 02:14 AM

Ron Rivera isn't coaching in the Superbowl, that's what happened.

Dunno about Singeltary though lol

D Mac 01-25-2008 02:50 AM

It's not offseason yet.

SammyG 01-25-2008 03:26 AM

It's is for 30 of the 32 teams..

VonErichLives 01-25-2008 10:03 AM

Skins haven't hired anyone, he wants to interview the Giants Def Coordinator and the Pats Off coordinator when the season is over.

Josh has already said he doesn't want to go anywhere, turned down interviews with the Falcons, doubt he'll even talk to Snyder.

The Skins are screwed....... best thing Snyder could do is throw money as a Jimmy Johhnson and say "run my team, I'll get out of the way"... make him team President and let him hire the gm and coach etc...

RP 01-25-2008 10:10 AM

Colts will trade for Chad Johnson and run 4 reciever sets all year next year.

SammyG 01-25-2008 03:07 PM

Yo, if the Rams got Chad Johnson that would be amazing.

Hanso Amore 01-25-2008 06:00 PM

I can see the Phins taking Ryan.

Parcells is going to make this HIS team, and if he wants a qb, he will take him even if it is a stretch and they drafted a qb last year.

I would say if they dont take one of the Longs or Dorsey, it would be Ryan.

As for the Bills, for now I am praying for Sedrick Ellis at 11.

OssMan 01-25-2008 09:21 PM

My friend was flipping out on Thursday that the Skins hired Jim Fassel and was calling them the worst team ever, gonna go 3-13, i was lke what

Hanso Amore 01-25-2008 09:24 PM

If they are going to give a shitty coach a 2nd chance, might as well be Gregg Williams. HE is a far better coordinator and was already the asst had coach.

OssMan 01-26-2008 03:11 AM

Gregg Williams was obviously the jock who went to prep school and wore sweaters around his neck :-\

Gonzo 01-26-2008 05:16 PM

The Redskins are fucking doomed. As long as Snyder owns that team they are going to be mediocre at best.

Hmm could be interesting, I dunno who is gonna pick it up for TV.

Also, it looks like Chad Henne might have moved up to the #2 QB spot after his play during the Senior Bowl game/week.

SammyG 01-27-2008 03:54 AM

Rams going hard after Saunders, Williams too, but that is an extreme longshot, as we want him to be just the secondary coach, cuz we got Haslett at D-coordinator.

Supreme Olajuwon 01-27-2008 11:12 AM

Odell Thurman was cleared to begin working out in the Bengals' facilities which hopefully means he'll be playing next year unless Goodell is just screwing with me which he probably is

Y'all completely misunderstood that whole argument.. I just think it's better to go under .500 than to barely make .500 and get killed in the wildcard game.. Unless say, for the Saints, if Deuce had gotten back healthy by week 16 or 17, I didn't want to "back into" the playoffs, specially playing how we were, without a "full deck"..

Crimson 01-27-2008 02:09 PM

lol..i'm just givin you shit. But with a name like Crabtree, he is a sure hall of famer.

Kris P Lettus 01-28-2008 11:31 AM

Saints are gonna play their Oct 26 "home" game against the Chargers in Wembley Stadium in London..

:foc:

It's not official yet.

Guess I'd better get practising though.

Who's that?

Kris P Lettus 01-28-2008 12:09 PM

Not Official??

I read it from the Associated Press in my local paper this morning..

Mr. Monday Morning 01-28-2008 12:33 PM

Some reporter in San Diego has claimed it as fact but at this point it has not been announced or confirmed by Goodell or anyone else from the league, so it could still be something else.

The question will be is having a game in another country give a boost to merchandise sales that will balance off against the loss of a home game for a top/sell-out team.

OssMan 01-29-2008 09:24 PM

Bottom line is games outside of a home team's stadium is a shit on the face from the NFL

I dunno, if they rotate it, will the home team fans really be that upset about 1 game every 5-10yrs?

Most of those players worked under Mike Martz, I'm sure they'll cope

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-30-2008 03:22 PM

Indy is lobbying for the 2012 Superbowl I guess....lol sweet destination

RP 01-30-2008 03:37 PM

I'd love to see a Superbowl, but let me tell you about Indianapolis weather. Last night at 8 pm it was 50 % and thunderstorming. A Tonado touched down in fucking January. That was at 8 pm. At 11pm when i went back outside. It was 7degrees and the wind was gusting at 40-50 miles per hour. My car was frozen. Now we're suppose to get 6 inches tommorow. Indiana weather is fucked up foreal. I hope we dont get a Superbowl and then end up having a blizzard or something during the Superbowl. But our stadium will be tight and i think the RCA dome is getting made into a convention center. Downtown Indianapolis is actually a pretty happening place.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-30-2008 03:41 PM

Yeah the stadium will more likely than not be sick but it should stick to big cities with nice weather. Even smaller cities with nice weather are kinda weak, Jacksonville was hurtin

OssMan 01-30-2008 04:30 PM

The new Indy stadium is supposed to be done in August, they won't use it next season will they?

RP 01-30-2008 04:39 PM

yep

I dunno the Final Four and those racing events don't seem to have problems marketing in Indianapolis.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 01-31-2008 12:43 AM

I dunno, I think the Superbowl is a little different than the Final Four and def a lot different than a racing event.

SammyG 01-31-2008 03:44 AM

Rams get Saunders, yessss

VonErichLives 01-31-2008 01:11 PM

nfl's going to announce 8 games for the bills in Toronto.

5 regular season (1 per year) and 3 pre season.

OssMan 02-04-2008 01:38 AM

No team is ever going 19-0. Ever.

Nervous Ferret 02-05-2008 03:36 PM

Jetssssssssssssssss will prob go OL again this draft. Jake Long hopefully :-\.

DaveBrawl 02-05-2008 03:44 PM

I'm almost willing to bet money Coach Shanahan goes after Ricky Williams. He loves the flawed running backs. Although I think Ricky still has some game in him, so it could work out well for once.

Evil Vito 02-07-2008 01:43 PM

Spagnuolo has turned down the Skins' offer and is staying with the Giants

Figured he would, as he wouldn't have been able to choose his coaching staff in Washington.

OssMan 02-07-2008 05:58 PM

ahahahahaha fuck you Skins

Jesus Shuttlesworth 02-07-2008 06:36 PM

Got a huge pay raise. I don't blame him for not taking the Redskins job, but he will never be this hot of a coaching prospect again. I wonder if the Giants made some indication to hire him if Coughlin steps down anytime soon - kinda the new "thing" in the NFL now.

Gonzo 02-07-2008 08:27 PM

Thats what I'm thinking/hoping. I think Coughlin only has a few more years on him, for better or worse.

Evil Vito 02-09-2008 09:59 PM

Got the Super Bowl shirt and hat. Pretty sick.

Anyway, looking into the offseason...I'm sure Strahan and Toomer will be back, though I'm guessing Strahan will get permission to skip training camp again and get fined.

I REALLY hope Feagles comes back...he's the best punter in the league in terms of nailing teams past their own 20...but he's gonna be 42 in March. He might want to spend time with his family.

I think the Giants' biggest loss will be Derrick Ward. I really see him going elsewhere for a starting job and more money now that Bradshaw has stepped up. I think Reggie Torbor might leave too, which I'd hate to see. And I think RW McQuarters is gonna get cut.

Kris P Lettus 02-09-2008 10:02 PM

Why would McQuarters get cut??

Salary cap room or summat cause I wouldn't get rid of him if I were yall..

OssMan 02-09-2008 11:47 PM

Yeah, cutting McQuarters will save a couple mil in cap space...I mainly see it happening because he went from a starter in 2006 to #5 on the depth chart in 2007. He's a solid punt returner but we have guys like Hixon that can take over that role.

Supreme Olajuwon 02-10-2008 01:16 PM

Chad Johnson wants to be traded. God dammit.

MTH15 02-10-2008 01:24 PM

Still mad we didnt get schottenhiemer

Supreme Olajuwon 02-10-2008 01:25 PM

I could definitely see Chad going to Jacksonville for their 1st round pick which is #26 I believe. That'd make the Jaguars a legit Super Bowl contender and a threat to win the South finally.

Kris P Lettus 02-10-2008 03:40 PM

Fuck I wish the Saints would trade their first round pick (#10) for him..

Jesus Shuttlesworth 02-10-2008 05:38 PM

Dan Koppan with a 2 yard kick return YEAAAAH BUUUDDDY

OssMan 02-10-2008 10:25 PM

OssMan 02-10-2008 10:26 PM

McQuarters INT against Tampa Bay in wild card round, McQuarters INT against Dallas to seal the game in Divisional round, McQuarters INT + fumble in Green Bay :shifty: Yeah cut him

VonErichLives 02-11-2008 01:25 PM

Yeah they don't like it cuz its only a one year deal, but you get paid pretty decently for that year so its pretty hard to turn down

Also Sammy did you even read the article? "Most of these moves where expected" I mean they cut a bunch of guys off a team that won 1 game...not that crazy

SammyG 02-11-2008 06:48 PM

I guess. Yeah I didn't read completely through it, I just read that they cut 7 starters and I was like LOL WUT

Jesus Shuttlesworth 02-11-2008 10:46 PM

Dan Morgan cut by the Panthers, would love to see the Patriots pick him up. Injuries or not that dude is a baller, had 25 fucking tackles in Superbowl 38.

Skippord 02-11-2008 11:05 PM

Keith Traylor is still playing/alive?

VonErichLives 02-12-2008 01:35 AM

yeah, Randy would get the average of the top 5 WR which isn't bad, plus the Pats can always pull back the tag say they do a sign/trade deal or work out a deal.

Plus the word is Moss actually has invested his money well and has said money isn't his top priority, I could see a 2-3yr deal and once he gets his ring he asks to be let out of his contract so he can get his last "big contract".

The Gold Standard 02-12-2008 02:57 PM

What does everyone think about Shockey?

Will he stay with the Giants?

OssMan 02-12-2008 03:36 PM

Love Shockey

OssMan 02-12-2008 03:37 PM

if they traded him and get a first round pick...whatever. It just can't be to a team I fuckign hate which is like 9 teams

Innovator 02-12-2008 03:45 PM

Shockey had to be humbled a bit, team won it all without him

The Gold Standard 02-12-2008 04:33 PM

I guess that is true, but I Eli was a lot better when shockey was gone.

VonErichLives 02-12-2008 07:48 PM

i just love how the seemed to keep showing peyton and stop showing shockey cause when they'd go to him he seem to have multiple drinks in front of him.

I don't see why they would trade him and no one gives 1st round pick for a TE (ok, maybe Gonzo in his prime) and especially coming off injury w/ a history of injuries.

The Gold Standard 02-13-2008 12:12 AM

The could get a 2nd round pick and a few more other picks or another player for him. I just think Eli is better without him.

Although he is one of the best TE's in the game.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 02-13-2008 12:14 AM

Shockey is overrated IMO, I mean he's good but it's not like he is an elite TE in the NFL. If you take a look around the league can you really place him ahead of lot of players at the position?

Kris P Lettus 02-13-2008 02:49 AM

Thing with Shockey is, like other elite TE's, is that he can both catch and block.. If you really look around alot of teams play two TE's throughout just that one might be to run routes while the other is just to pass and run block..

Not calling Shockey "elite" just saying..

:-\

Anything is possible, but a GM who gives up a 2nd rounder + 2 picks or a decent player would be the laughing stock of the league.

I mean his been in the league 6yrs, has he ever been healthy a full year?

don't get me wrong, he's a decent TE, but he can't stay healthy and he's not a dominate TE, I don't watch him enough, how is his blocking?

I think you're talking a 3rd round pick for him... the giants would be better to keep him, his injury didn't help Eli.
