What I was gonna come in here and say. Now I look like a tool. I'll just have to smash your head in. But seriously, in this movie a guy cuts open his stomach, removes his guts or whatever and chokes another guy with them. Top that.

Beat me to it. I almost walked out of that movie and walking out of movies is not something I ever do.

I liked it even when I watched it as a kid but for that reason I wouldn't put it at the top. I heard of a Chinese movie where a man kills the owners of a restaurant and takes it over and turns everyone he kills into dumplings.

Also, Necronomicon scarred me as a child.

I can't remember what the movie was called--Hellhouse or something like that, it was based on HP Lovecraft stories and was the only not-totally-shit movie that Brain Damage Films ever produced.

Anyway, at one point, this mute chick rips the skin off of her wrist with her teeth and procedes to try and play the violin with her nervous system. Literally runs the bow over her bleeding insides, causing her fingers to bend and jerk by reaction. Fucked up shit. Made my friend throw up, I think.

I was just reading about this, and it's the kind of shit that I can't handle at all. Gore is not really my thing as it is, but this faux snuff shit is just ridiculous.

And for comedic purposes, the lawnmower scene in Dead Alive is pretty solid.

It's not a good movie, in fact it's a fucking terrible movie, it's poorly made, has no story and is complete and utter crap. But if you want to see the most violent/disturbing/gory/intense/brutal movie of all time, nothing comes close.

It's pretty much banned everywhere aside for a couple of countries in Europe.

It is quite honestly the only move than I have ever found offensive.

Personally I've always found those kinda films completely overstate the case. There is no subtlety and usually little to no psychological or 'moral' subtext underpinning any of it, ie nothing to connect it to reality. I find stuff that is actually remotely possible far scarier than something I know is absolute fantasy.

Also as far as more mainstream films go the opening scene of Narc is pretty damn horrific

Have the rest of you seen the banned episode of Masters of Horror that Miike did? The man has some issues.

I've heard of the August underground movie from an online friend as he sees everything torture/gore/snuff related he can get his hands on and I dunno if I want to go out of my way to see this type of stuff.

My advise - don't bother, you will gain nothing from seeing it.

But the fact that it is also fucking hilarious kind of takes away from the disturbing part of it. And the gore is pretty cartoony. Great movie, don't get me wrong, but if I can stomach it, it is doesn't deserve the title.

I've had a copy of Cannibal Halocaust laying around for about a year, but can't bring myself to watch it because I've seen bits of it, and it just looks really boring. Maybe I'll check it out this weekend.

I can't remember the name of the movie (I think the title contained a letter by itself), but this guy's daughter is a prostitute, and he has sex with her and is disgusted that she wants him to pay.

I've forgotten the name of the movie, but it was an Asian one. Basically it was a pretty fucked up movie that contains the same themes as Oldboy did, and then some.

Ok, so WTF is Cannibal Holocaust??

That clip was ridiculous.. If killing/gutting an animal for sustenance is disturbing to you, you are either a little girl or a raging faggot..

I'm not an expert on it or anything, but I think it's a fairly old movie that was apparently banned in a lot of places when it was made. I'm too lazy to dig up the names, but I think the director was Italian, and basically it's about a documentary crew who go into the wilderness to research primitive tribes, or something.

When they arrive there, the foreigners do their foreign thing, and treat the tribe like shit, so basically they all get murdered and raped. It was all pretty intense, apparently. A lot of people thought it was real, and the cast actually had to come forward and prove they were alive to get the director out of hot water.

The turtle scene is far from the most disturbing thing in the movie, but our culture has become so desensitized to violence against human characters that sometimes something like that speaks louder to people. You know, like sometimes how you're watching a movie, and the saddest part will be when a dog dies, despite 5 other people getting brutally murdered.

The movie is one of those gory movies that is often praised as one of the few with meaning behind it. While a lot of movies are whacked out gore for gore's sake, Cannibal Holocaust can at least mask itself behind the whole "who were the real savages" angle.

It's a very shallow point to make, of course, but it's what kind of separates it, in theory, from a movie like August Underground Mordum.

I guess I am desensitised to most violence in movies mainly due to the internet and my job.. I've worked on several "horror" movies and know how alot of the brutality is created.. I've seen fake dead mutalated body parts, dead animals, guys with half their heads blown off etc etc etc.. Most gore movies try to show way too much and end up looking fake as hell, which I'm guessing this film does also.. Subjective violence is always better IMO.. I hear people talk about how violent movies like the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is, when really, 99% of the violence is suggested (like when you first see Leatherface club that guy over the head and then slams that sliding door shut).. I mean really the only blood in that entire movie is when the crazy hitchhiker cuts his hand at the beggining.. I remember how scared I was seeing that movie for the first time.. That suggested violence is why they ruined the franchise by remaking it and making it gorey as hell..

Another scene of suggested violence is when Mr. Blonde cuts that guys ear off in Resevoir Dogs.. They don't actually show it, but it left a huge impact on the entire movie..

I dunno, seeing someone slaughter a turtle, to eat it, isn't that bad IMO..

Except that most of Cannibal Holocaust is legit. The turtle scene features a real turtle actually getting killed. It's an exploitation movie, banned in alot of countries (some of which have since unbanned it) because it features actual violence and actual gore. It might not be a good movie--it's silly to even bring up Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Resevoir Dogs when talking about it--there's something far more disturbing about the fact that these people actually went out to a jungle, actually did this, and you're actually watching it.

The cast don't actually die in the movie, though it was thought for a long time that they had legitimately died, since just about everything else in the movie--including the deaths of no less than six animals--were fully legit.

Including a monkey getting its face sliced off.
