May as well get it out the way.... Hall Of Fame 2008 Thread

Well, we're now officially on the road to WrestleMania and it's that time of the year when speculation starts on who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

When do they usually start announcements anyway, is it the night after the Rumble? We could find out the first candidate tonight, if so.

Anyway let the speculation, demands and distain begin. Who do you guys think WILL be inducted into the hallowed Hall this year, and who do you think SHOULD be inducted into the Hall?

For my money, Flair, Arn and DiBiase are going in this year, possibly Steamboat too.

Only doubt in my mind is that maybe that's too many well known names. DiBiase could be the star inductee in his own right one year, as could Steamboat. No need to spunk all the well-known/still alive/popular/worthy Hall of Famers in one ceremony when there are so few marketable names remaining to go into the HOF in future years.

And anyone who believes Randy Savage will go into the Hall anything but posthumously is having a grin.

NeanderCarl 01-28-2008 10:43 AM

If the rumours are to be believed, and Flair is to be inducted this year, I can see a Flair themed ceremony, with several Flair associates/rivals being inducted.... Arn, Tully, Windham, Steamboat, dare I say Dillon? Or maybe the Horsemen as a collective... Paul Roma in the Hall of Fame ...

Save DiBiase for next year.

Evil Vito 01-28-2008 10:47 AM

I agree with Arn and DiBiase...hopefully Lawrence Taylor gets the token celebrity spot.

I think they hype that Flair will do Arn's induction speech, not actually getting put in himself. The WM ceremony happens immediately after Flair's last match, and since he lost, his career is over...and he is inducted on the spot.

That would deny him the whole career retrospect/speech/induction moment in the spotlight which would be a shame.

Speaking of induction without fanfare, shouldn't Andre The Giant have a full induction one time? Rather than just the video package he received as the first ever inductee?

NeanderCarl 01-28-2008 11:02 AM

I see The Honky Tonk Man and Owen Hart being considered this year, too.

mrslackalack 01-28-2008 11:11 AM

Main Inductee- Ric Flair
Ricky Steamboat
Ted Dibiase
British Bulldog
Tag Team- Demolition
Annoucer- Gordon Solie
Manager- Slick

Those are my wishes for this yrs HOF

Dave Youell 01-28-2008 11:25 AM

I expect IRS to be inducted as he's on the books and isn't a 'main' guy, so can be on the undercard.

Even though I loved that man

Avenger 01-28-2008 11:29 AM

Benoit

BigDaddyCool 01-28-2008 11:35 AM

John Cena is going in this year too.

Nark Order 01-28-2008 11:36 AM

Who?

John Cena, the wigger.

NeanderCarl 01-28-2008 11:40 AM

Hmmm, I can see Rotunda going in, maybe the same time as DiBiase. Then again, maybe the same time as Windham... bit of a US Express reunion.

NeanderCarl 01-28-2008 11:44 AM

How bout Rick Martel? There's a Hall of Fame guy right there.

Stu Hart.

Road Warriors, Von Erichs, Lord Alfred Hayes, British Bulldogs, Pillman, Abdullah the Butcher, Rick Rude, Bossman... lots of possibilities. Of course, Austin and Rock are retired and sure bets for the Hall one day, but I doubt they'll go in yet, they will both be the centrepiece in their respective HOF ceremonies one day, and won't be sharing the spotlight with Ric Flair, that's for sure.

Hell, I'd put Vince McMahon in there too, while he's still alive to be inducted. I'd save that for next year and the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania.

NeanderCarl 01-28-2008 11:47 AM

If they insist on a celeb induction, probably Mr T or Mike Tyson. Or Cyndi Lauper.

Bob Uecker should be considered though.

Just don't let it be K-Fed.

They both should IMO

Mr. Nerfect 01-28-2008 10:42 PM

Ric Flair should be the main inductee. It makes sense to pop in a few of the Flair guys, as well: Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Barry Windham. It's going to get very crowded, but Owen Hart deserves to go in, as does Gordon Solie. Stu Hart is another name to consider, and apparently Peter Maivia and Rocky Johnson are going in.

Destor 01-28-2008 10:45 PM

Benoit

(this is going to be my answer every year from now on)

Vastardikai 01-28-2008 10:50 PM

Ric Flair
Arn Anderson
Owen Hart
Gordon Solie
J.J. Dillon
Freebirds

Why Benoit?

Destor 01-28-2008 10:57 PM

He only had one of the greatest in-ring careers of all time.

Destor 01-28-2008 10:57 PM

No reason...

Destor 01-28-2008 10:58 PM

He did a hell of a lot more than Ivan FUCKING Koloff ever did,...

I second him on Demolition. Maybe not Slick, though.

KYR 01-28-2008 11:27 PM

Owen
Sunny
Brutus Beefcake
Freebirds
Sollie
Miss Elizabeth

"All of the Four Horsemen, except the following...."

I'd laugh my ass of if that happened.

HTrain90 01-29-2008 03:51 PM

Ted DiBiase makes sense this year. He was featured in the HBK DVD a lot, and he's showed up on TV a handful of times. Let him be the headliner this year.

Someone mentioned Sunny - I like that idea as well.

Owen Hart should get in - it's been 10 years, so it would be a great tribute.

I'm actually against a Ric Flair induction this year. It would steal too much of the limelight from those going in. Wait till next year, let him headline a class. But I wouldn't mind seeing him in this year, so long as other members of the Horsemen are included with him.

ttetf 01-29-2008 08:33 PM

Ric Flair should headline the HOF this year but only if he does plan on retiring from the active roster at Wrestlemania.
Ricky Steamboat
Ted Dibiase
Bob Backlund
The British Bulldogs
Ravishing Rick Rude
Howard Finkel

Those who should be going in this year but won't include:
Bruno Samartino
Randy Savage
Owen Hart
Terry Funk
Little Beaver

DaveBrawl 01-30-2008 02:59 PM

Owen Hart
British Bulldog
Ted Dibiase
Road Warriors

I'd save Flair and the rest of the Horsemen for next year or really even the year after. Give it a little time to sink in that he's no longer wrestling.

weather vane 01-30-2008 03:07 PM

Randy Savage
Elizabeth
Ted Dibiase
Howard Finkel
Bob Uecker
Demolition
Bruno Sammartino
Gordon Solie
Rick Martel

Yeah, he was totally being serious:roll:

Destor 02-02-2008 07:14 PM

Actually I was. Don't get me wrong I KNOW he will never get into the HoF. He wont. But he should.

A mail man serves his company for 20 years and then one day goes to Wal Mart and kils 10 people. Does that make him a bad mail man? No it's makes him a sick fuck, but it has nothing to do with how he preformed at his job.

Benoit is one of the all time greats, nothing can change that.

Marc the Smark 02-02-2008 07:55 PM

When the Benoit tragedy first happened I came in and asked if it's ruined his legacy as a wrestler and most of you said yes, that it is. I don't think Benoit will ever be inducted into the HOF and I don't think he should be.

Destor 02-02-2008 08:00 PM

People think less of him, yeah. Thas why he will never get in. But he is one ofthe best that have ever been and no Internet fan can take that away from him.

Destor 02-02-2008 08:00 PM

Still a sick fuck though.

Gerard 02-03-2008 11:02 PM

John Tenta should go in this year.

Rammsteinmad 02-04-2008 03:43 AM

I'm going with Destor and the Chris Benoit thing. Sure what he did was a terrible thing, and I'm pretty sure his family would be so ashamed to get on stage and induct him into the Hall of Fame, but none-the-less the guy was pound-for-pound the greatest in-ring wrestler, and had a totally unforgettable career.

That said, it'll probably be Ric Flair this year.

Destor 02-04-2008 03:45 AM

Flair is a safe bet.

NeanderCarl 02-04-2008 12:04 PM

Ron Simmons

Inadequacy 02-04-2008 12:08 PM

No, I agree Benoit was awesome. The only reason I used the quote about him having one of the greatest careers ever was because that was the one Red Hot Scott used.

I'd love to see him in the hall of fame too, but it obviously won't be this year

ShawnRhodeIsland 02-09-2008 08:43 AM

A few of my suggestions, some of whom may have already been named - Howard Finkel, Lord Alfred Hayes, Owen Hart, Bob Backlund, Gordon Solie, Antonio Rocca, "Gorgeous" George and King Kong Bundy.

Antonino Rocca is already in the Hall of Fame.
