Official Guitar Hero IV Thread

Well, it hasn't even been formally announced yet, but apparently one song is already in.

The band The Answer released a press statement today declaring that one of their songs, "Never Too Late", will be appearing in Guitar Hero IV. They also stated that Guitar Hero IV would be coming out at the end of this year:
Yeah so. Speculation, wishlists, etc.. Post 'em till we have some more info.

El Fangel 02-07-2008 04:32 AM

I hope its not PS3+

Also that song sounds like it is going to be on the bonus tracks, sounds like a decent challenge.

I really need more Metallica, and for christs sake I need Megadeth.

I can't understand why the would make another GH. With Rock Band you can do EVERYTHING you can do in GH, right? If so why make another? Isn't just going to be inferior to Rock Band? Why not move the focus entierly to Rockband? Furthermore once you have downloadable content why do you need a new disk at all? It's just new track, just charge a good some for em and you'll probably make MORE money. Whatever I guess.

Blitz 02-07-2008 05:29 AM

A) It's 2 different companies who make Rock Band and GH
B) GH is geared more towards hardcore players, RB is more of a party game
C) Because people will buy new disks

Destor 02-07-2008 05:34 AM

I thought Harmonix made both GH and RB?

Destor 02-07-2008 05:35 AM

After doing some research yes they do.

Destor 02-07-2008 05:36 AM

and to the point of RB being more of party game you can play single player if you so choose with the same level of difficulty, can you not?

Blitz 02-07-2008 05:44 AM

Harmonix made the first 2 GH games (Well, Rock The 80s as well). But they were bought by MTV, and made Rock Band. GH's publisher, Red Octane, which still owned the GH license, gave Neversoft the development duties on GH3.

So, GH1, 2, and Rock The 80s were published by Red Octane and developed by Harmonix. Rock Band was published by MTV Games and developed by Harmonix, and GH3 was published by Red Octane and developed by Neversoft. Different companies.

And what I mean by party game is that Rock Band is much easier, and thus more suited as a party game for people to pick up and play. GH3 is WAY harder.

Destor 02-07-2008 05:51 AM

I didn't know any of that. :y:

I still stand by the fact that I think they stand to make more money by going to strictly to down loadable content. Cutting out the cost of disks alone would save a bundle. Factor in charging by a song by song basis and you have a much more productive structure.

If GH continues it's trend of crappy songs, I won't care. I'm sorry, but IMO, the tracklist in 3 was awful.

Tornado 02-07-2008 06:02 AM

I would wish for half of the note charts not to suck balls.

Yeah, but DLC adds up over time, and ends up taking a LOT of hard drive space. Between RB and the GH games, I have whole gigabytes taken up by dlc. Would prefer a GH IV disc rather than them releasing all the songs as dlc and filling my hd.

People will blindly buy the discs, which is a plus, not to mention DLC won't get them on the software charts, which is incredibly desirable.

Though DLC has a lot more profit for them.

Shaggy 02-07-2008 02:53 PM

Anything Metallica would be good..

Hell they are making 4 GH games this year...One of them is Aerosmith...One is GH4 and the other two are unnamed...I would love for one of them to be Metallica

Maybe some Bowie.... "Dance Magic Dance" :shifty:

Disturbed316 02-07-2008 06:02 PM

Dunno if I'd actually get this, unless the tracklist really appealed to me. I'm getting abit burned out of the series.

Oh and if Dance Magic Dance gets in, Magic Baby has got to aswell :shifty:

Kalyx triaD 02-07-2008 09:47 PM

GH3 has a great list, I'm more interested in what features they're gonna add. GH3 and RB aren't the same kind of game, but there's no denying a sense of rivalry between the two. I'm wondering if RB's gameplay will have Neversoft add some new gameplay types like the better-than-I-thought Battle Mode.

D Mac 02-08-2008 02:54 AM

If they come out with a Metallica version I will cream myself.

That would be really awesome, have a wide variety to please everyone. At $1 a song, that would make millions.

One, Before I Forget, Raining Blood, Paranoid, Number of The Beast, Welcome to The Jungle and Take This Life out of 70 songs is kinda bad. (Those are the ones I like)

They need a Metal Version

With

Metallica
Slayer
Megadeth
Anthrax
Dream Theatre

Im sure you could add more.

Oh DM, Check out Nunders Iron Fucking Maiden thread, tell me what you would think about the super-dream concert I posted.

Dave Youell 02-08-2008 04:28 AM

What i'd really like is some sort of master disc with the previous games on it, the first GH i own is for the Wii, therefore I am missing out.

DaveWadding 02-08-2008 01:21 PM

Eagles - Hotel California
Derek & the Dominos - Layla

going to ask for these every year

Exactly. I don't mind if the charts are challenging, but make sure they're fun too. Some of the note charts in 3 are like "Ugh, I don't like the song, and the chart is a pain in the ass... Why would I ever play this again?"

Word.

If the notechart is fun, I will play it, even if it's hard, and even if I'm not big on the song. GH3 felt like a chore a lot of the time, which is why I've barely touched it since Rock Band came out. I'm not trying to directly compare them, since Rock Band's supposed to be more accessible, but still....

U-Warrior 02-08-2008 08:59 PM

To GH3's credit, the last two dlc packs have had really fun notecharts imo. Maybe not at harmonix's level yet, but it looks like neversoft is getting better.

U-Warrior 02-08-2008 09:01 PM

excluding linkin park, but that has more to do with the fact that they chose linkin park. Not the best band for guitar hero.

El Fangel 02-09-2008 01:07 AM

Im sure the dudes at RedOctane, and Activision had this planned all alone

Lead Designer: How about a 50000 Note song, that is brutally difficult, and almost impossible to perfect.

Cronie: Well to drive people insane we need a annoying band to take the song from

All:.............DRAGONFORCE

and violen!

Inadequacy 02-11-2008 02:03 PM

I know it will never happen, but I'd like a future guitar hero game to have a boss battle against Eric Melvin

Yeah, I don't get that as a choice for Guitar Hero. It has nothing to do with them being good or bad, just so...Wrong for the game.

darkpower 02-13-2008 05:28 PM

Somehow, I still see them considering a country edition of GH, seeing as how we're seeing alot of this "rock country" crossover stuff going on. I would be kind of curious of that, actually. Could get some new fans if they do that ("yeah, man. Some moonshine, a CD of Bush's best speeches, and some Guitar Hero! WHAT A LIFE I HAVE!!"....no, that was not something I would say).

But I just got into the series, so I'm one of those people that will be really awaiting a new full GH game, whatever it is. Really, the only thing that Activision did wrong is that they should change the star meter graphic back to what it was (I played GH3 before the original one, and the originals star power bar was way more telling of how much you had compared to 3's light bulb thing). 3 was very challenging, but maybe more challenging than it had to be. Outside of those three things, they didn't do that bad of a job (Activision has a reputation to uphold, IMO, since they have a HUGE history going back to the 2600. Hopefully that's not lost on them now). The "practice" mode was an excellent idea, though, since it could be just one part that fucks everything up for you. Hopefully they keep that in (makes it look more realistic, too).

A feature I would like to see is something that Rock Band did, where at certain points, you can "switch up" the notes to make it sound more interesting, or a "big finish" where you could just go wild with the note playing, but you would have to strum a certain note at the end to get the biggest points out of it (or make a new "live band" mode that will allow you to do stuff like that). Also, why is the "tuning up the guitar tutorial" even IN the game if you never have to do it (I never seen any difference)?
Either require it or take it out of the tutorial altogether.

One song I can see them adding: Aerosmith's Dream On. Want to play that one.

RP 02-13-2008 05:54 PM

I wanna see some Alkaline Trio added.

Sepholio 02-13-2008 06:36 PM

^+1 on Comfortably Numb. Be even cooler if they could have the live version with the extended outro. Maybe even put Stairway on there.

Blitz 02-13-2008 10:57 PM

Sober would be my most wanted song. Or maybe Hotel California.

darkpower 02-14-2008 01:06 AM

Got something else that I think they could add to it.

We all know of the five star reviews being the best you can do, but what if you could get something extra special as a bonus for getting a 100% note hit rate (as in, if you can hit EVERY SINGLE NOTE in the note chart in a particular song). Like a free unlockable or something like that in Career. I'm sure there's been a few people that have been able to hit every note in a song (I have on occasion). Since it's VERY hard to keep up a streak for so long, they should give a special reward for doing something like that.

El Fangel 02-14-2008 01:09 AM

Sober is wayyyyyyyyy up there for me.

I would like to see my favorite song on there though

The Only - Static-X

El Fangel 02-14-2008 01:10 AM

Stairway to Heaven also.

U-Warrior 02-14-2008 01:56 AM

Stairway is a great song but would be boring as fuck on GH.

El Fangel 02-14-2008 01:58 AM

Yeah, I guess it would, I would like to try it though.

Also Deliverance - Opeth :)

Fire up the fret board, crank the amp to 11 and get ready to rock this way with Activision, Inc.’s (Nasdaq:ATVI) Guitar Hero®: Aerosmith®, the first game built around the legendary music of America’s Greatest Rock ‘N Roll Band: Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer. Slated for release this June, this latest installment from the franchise with the #1 best-selling video game in 2007, puts players in the shoes of Perry (guitar), Whitford (guitar) and Hamilton (bass), as they rock out alongside frontman Tyler and drummer Kramer. Gamers will experience Aerosmith’s GRAMMY® winning career, from their first gig to becoming rock royalty, in a way that no other entertainment vehicle offers.

To celebrate this historic, ground-breaking collaboration, Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock fans will have the opportunity to download and jam to Aerosmith’s “Dream On.” The song will be available for free from February 16-18 on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®Store for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. For more information, please visit www.guitarhero.com.

“Having a game built around Aerosmith has been a huge honor and really a great experience for us,” says Joe Perry. “We’ve put a lot of ideas into the game so that fans can have fun interacting with our music, getting inside our body of work and learning about the band’s history.”

Steven Tyler says, “Any band that can go from ‘Don’t Want to Miss A Thing’ (Aerosmith’s #1 smash hit) to the ass-kicking ‘Sweet Emotion’ to the cheekiness of ‘Love in an Elevator,’ to the classic ballad ‘Dream On’ shows why Activision chose us to headline this game based on the diversity of the Aerosmith catalog. Not only is songwriting a bitch, but then it goes and has puppies.”

Perry adds, “On a larger scale, it’s cool for us to be pioneers helping to rebuild the music industry through a format like video games. It’s great for rock since the record companies are struggling to make sense of how things are changing. Fans want to get and experience music in new formats--and there are going to be some of them who will play the game, then pick up the guitar for real and start bands. It’s what’s happening now, and it’s only going to build more momentum in the future. It’s a massive change for the music business.”

“We are extremely excited that Aerosmith chose to team up with Guitar Hero, bringing one of the world’s all-time best-selling artists together with one of the biggest video game brands, to deliver a new and unique interactive way for our customers to connect with artists and their music,” said Dusty Welch, head of publishing for Activision/RedOctane. “This partnership will give Aerosmith, a band that has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, a powerful and innovative platform to reach their fans and new audiences.”

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith brings these quintessential rock legends to the interactive realm to create the ultimate gaming experience. As fans progress through their careers in the game, they can rock out to scores of Aerosmith’s greatest hits, as well as songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way. Venues from historical moments during the band’s illustrious career offer the experience of “sweet emotion” and further capture the essence of the band’s rise to fame.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. The Wii™ version is being developed by Vicarious Visions. The PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system version is being developed by Budcat. The game is not yet rated by the ESRB.

Okay two things.

1. The problem with the band specific GH is that not every GH owner will be a fan of said band. And even the owners that are a fan of the band may not want to spend another $30 (probaly $40 or $50 in the end) or so for the game. For example, I love Aerosmith, but I wouldn't pay more than $20 for the game. They would be better off just releasing an Aerosmith expansion pack on the PS3 Network and XBL.

2. Adding the same songs on Rock Band that was previously in Guitar Hero does add new deminsion to the songs thanks to the drums and vocals.

Do you have any idea how much hdd space that would take? DLC songs already take up whole gigabytes on mine. I will take as many new songs on a disc as I can get.

How many songs do you have that it's taking up that much?

I mean, the largest single DLC track I have for Guitar Hero is like 34 MB. Let's assume 40 and then assume 1 GB equals 1000 MB for simplicity. You're looking at the use of 25 songs per gig, assuming they're all larger than the largest song I have.

Now, Rock band gets kind of worse. I do have songs that add up to 40MB or more per track. But still, how many songs do you have to take up GigbyteS?

Kane Knight 02-16-2008 12:33 PM

Though to be fair, I have 700 MB of DLC for Rock Band.

KingofOldSchool 02-16-2008 03:53 PM

Best Buy and Gamestop has GH:Aerosmith for preorder for only $60.

Yeah, this is going to flop.

On a side note, I'd love to see a Rock Band expansion for hte Beatles. This will also likely never happen due to the aforementioned licensing issues, and it wouldn't work that well for Guitar Hero as much as it would for Rock Band, but man, that's one mess of songs I'd love to have.

Metallica would actually probably make more sense commercially. The faggots who go out of their way to five star Drag Queen Force on Expert blindfolder are gonna love to prove how small their dicks are on some Metallica songs.

It literally is right up their alley.

U-Warrior 02-17-2008 12:24 AM

Yeah, too bad they make up a minority of people who own gh.

Sorry d-mac, but aerosmith has broader appeal.

Sides, does metallica have a greater commitment to rockband? I'd rather see them there anyways, so I can actually, ya know, play the fuckin songs.

Yeah good point.

El Fangel 02-17-2008 03:55 AM

Although I would cream myself if they made a Metallica Version, so many songs I want to play

Master of Puppets
The Memory Remains

The Unforgiven
Enter Sandman
Dirty Window
Turn The Page

I want to play those so badly.

It literally is right up their alley.

LOL Yeah.

That is really early for a pre-order price. Could just be a placeholder till the real price is announced.

Jealous of their small dicks that is!

Though Rocks the 80s was similarly priced, making this pretty believable.

Hope they do away with boss battles.

I'd still want celebs in there, though. I'd love a career mode that has rock stars asking you to fill in for an injured guitarist. So you'd be playing lead or rhythm for Metallica or Killswitch along whatever story mode I'm almost certain will be in GH4.

Howabout something more like jamming? I don't mind the idea of playing with a legend (Though to be fair, the only legend is Slash), it's the gaytarded "battle" system that bugs me.

Went online yesterday to download Dream On (the 18th) and it they had taken it down on the 17th. Fucks.

Create A Track. Verrrrrrrrry interesting.

Not to mention that Van Halen, The Eagles, Linkin Park, and Sublime are all apparently having tracks in. My God, it'd better be Hotel California.

D Mac 05-13-2008 02:03 AM

LOL it won't be the Rock Band killer

Blitz 05-13-2008 02:04 AM

Only if it has METALLICA, right.

D Mac 05-13-2008 02:06 AM

All the songs will be master tracks.

El Fangel 05-13-2008 02:10 AM

Jesus Christ

Im trying to think of how sick "Master Of Puppets" solo would be on Expert :'(

What Would Kevin Do? 05-13-2008 02:24 AM

Linkin Park? Come on...

U-Warrior 05-13-2008 11:24 AM

I dunno, guitar hero feels cheap to me, after playing rockband for so long. Like, the notes in RB have more "weight" to them, for lack of a better word. Dunno, hard to explain.

I'm skeptical on the news, but even if it's all true, Rock Band isn't in any danger from it.
