Better Wrestler #8

Jericho has officially made it further than anyone with 3 out of five wins. This is the home stretch for him now, a win here puts him ONE win away from being the first entrant into the Better Wrestler Hall of Fame. Can he do it? The overwhelming numbers of his victories seem to lean toward it, but I think today's opponent might have something to say about that.

Today's match:

VS
http://biografie.leonardo.it/img/bio...e_Guerrero.jpg

By request we have Eddie vs Jericho. Dunno how this will play out. If past history says anything it should be a squash. 3 days as always, feel free to post your pics for the round as well as posting WHY you voted the way you did. Thats the part I'm interested in, anyhow. GET TO IT.
History:

RVD vs CM Punk (24-19-2)
RVD vs Santino Marella (36-4)
RVD vs Mr. Perfect (15-23-1)
Mr. Perfect vs Tully Blanchard (30-5-1)
Mr. Perfect vs Chris Jericho (15-23-3)
Chris Jericho vs Brock Lesnar (34-10)
Chris Jericho vs William Regal (38-14-2)

For me this isn't too hard. If you mirror their careers Eddie was better than him everywhere they went. It doesn't matter if you look at ECW, WCW, WWE, anywhere. Eddie was working at a higher level. Whether it was pure wrestling, working the stick, or just simply entertaining. Eddie reigns supreme. Plus he has the whole nostalgia thing working for him.

HeartBreakMan2k 03-13-2008 07:47 PM

Eddie

The Optimist 03-13-2008 07:49 PM

Draw

MMH 03-13-2008 07:49 PM

uhh in the attitude era Jericho was a higher level than Eddie. He was main-eventing, feuding with the Rock, Austin, HHH and even main-evented a WrestleMania. I'd say Jericho is a better promo than Eddie but by a hair. In the ring though it's Eddie for sure and drawing power goes to Eddie too, so I pick Eddie.

Hanso Amore 03-13-2008 07:53 PM

This Thread is Jericho

Mercury Bullet 03-13-2008 07:54 PM

For the first time, I can't decide at all. I have to vote draw, and I really hate voting 'draw'.

Lock Jaw 03-13-2008 07:55 PM

I'll have to go with Eddie. I love both, though. Its just that even when Eddie was in the kinda "doesn't fit in anywhere" limbo that Jericho occasionally finds himself, he always maintained the power to have the crowd eating out of his hands.

Plus everything after he went to the main event (and shortly before) was simply amazing. Some of my fondest memories involve Eddie as WWE Champion, getting these absolutely monstrous pops.

In fact, you'll be hard pressed to find somebody who I would vote over Eddie.

Can't really add any more to that - Eddie for mine.

But I do have one question for you D. How do you decide who faces whom in these polls? Reason I ask is that Jericho has a real chance of losing this and therefore missing out on his place in your "Better Wrestler HOF". Whereas if he was matched up against say Charlie Haas (don't read anything into that it's just a random wrestler I chose) he would most likely win and then go into your HOF.

There is a distinct possibility that your HOF may only have one inductee and that would be the ultmate winner of these polls and I would hate to see someone like Cena get in over someone like Jericho - or am I taking this waaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously?

Higher on the card. I really don't think that defines better.

A little too seriously yeah. Eddie was picked by someone in the last round (you I think.) Which I would like to go with suggestion as it keeps a little more fair I would like to think. But for the most part I just go with the very first wrestler that pops in my mind. Totally random. Which is why we will have squash matches. Now personally I will reserve the tougher opponents for latter rounds, competition getting stiffer as you make your way up the ranks is sensable enough to me. But yeah. No system really. (Cena wont get in btw.)

I always felt that Y2J and Eddie were best on the mic, thats why I will mainly vote on this subject. As Eddie was always great, Jericho could provide comedy on the mic that Eddie could not. As in promos it was equal, but Eddie would never be able to have his own segment show.

Hence my vote is Jericho.

Destor 03-13-2008 08:02 PM

Honestly I expected Jericho to be winning this even early on.

Pardeep 619 03-13-2008 08:08 PM

Has to be Eddie Guerrero. Quoting what New Age Outlaws said in a shoot promo about him "you just don't get any better".

Oh that's what I thought you meant, that he was higher on the card. I still think Jericho was better than Eddie on the mic and in the ring in 2000 and 2001 but that's about it, Eddie takes the cake for the rest of the years.

Kane Knight 03-13-2008 08:34 PM

Eddie. YOU CAN'T VOTE AGAINST A DEAD GUY!

It was me you son of a bitch! I thought Eddie because Jericho was handing everyone else's ass to them and these two were similar in many ways.

KingofOldSchool 03-13-2008 10:09 PM

Eddie was better all around.

Touché.

No, I seriously like Eddie more. I just had to make the crack. :D

And while I'm at it, it was a pretty hard decision. Both are guys I really enjoy both on the mic and in-ring.

get all pissed then.

Dorkchop 03-13-2008 10:40 PM

Jericho will always be one of my all time favorite wrestlers, but so will Eddie. When I vote in these, I vote on their in ring talent. Jericho has more in ring talent than probably 99% of wrestlers we've seen on tv, but I think Eddie is in that 1% who are better. I just find Eddie's in ring work to be some of the best I've ever seen (as well as Jericho). Eddie knew how to work a crowd like no other.

Someone post that promo Eddie gave on Smackdown where he didn't even say a word.

lol I was joking.

I think it would be better if there was no draw option. If Eddie beats Jericho by a huge margin then it makes him look bad as those draw votes could have gone to Jericho and made it closer or on the other hand I guess it could have made it even worse.

Destor 03-14-2008 12:21 AM

A high draw count doesn't make Jericho?Guerrero look worse in defeat, it makes them look better. People torn between the votes and what not. Besides in my head it's like they're having a match, and some times there are draws. Rare, but it happens.

Mr. Pierre 03-14-2008 01:43 AM

I gotta go with Eddie. Both are great, but I think Eddie is just better. Even with playing certain characters.

Both play a great babyface, but I think Eddie can play two types of heels very well, meanwhile Jericho has played the annoying/cowardly heel. Eddie's played the cowardly heel (2000) and a badass (2005) really well. But to be fair, Jericho really hasn't been given the opportunity to play a "badass" heel, so I wonder how he can play it.

BTW, the character comparison wasn't my deciding factor. I just figured I'd mention it.

St. Jimmy 03-14-2008 01:45 AM

Jericho. Not a contest.

What Would Kevin Do? 03-14-2008 01:47 AM

I honestly can't decide.

Heros Welcome 03-14-2008 02:04 AM

Big Jericholic........Loved Latino Heat.....

I'm really having a hard time deciding on this one. I mean I find them to be both unbelievable talents and 2 of my top favs all time. I could flip a coin on this one, and be fine with my choice since I don't want to say draw. In fact I will flip a coin, heads Jericho Tails Eddie

*Flips Coin*

It is Tails, vote goes to Eddie.

Skippord 03-14-2008 02:33 AM

Jericho

I love them both but Jericho entertains me just a little bit more than Eddie did

Destor 03-14-2008 02:38 AM

I honestly didn't think anyone could take Jericho down. And here Eddie is setting a good lead for a win or at least a draw. Also, If a draw were to happen what do you think I should do? I know what I think I should do but I'm wondering what you all think.

Destor 03-14-2008 02:38 AM

At a Draw the current champion retains.

What Would Kevin Do? 03-14-2008 02:42 AM

I'd say in the case of a draw, the champion goes on, but the other wrestler can rechallenge soon. So if it was a draw, Eddie could come back up and face off against whoever beats Jericho.

Destor 03-14-2008 02:43 AM

I was thinking on those lines. Except the following bout would be a triple threat with the other competitor. I was also thinking that someone couldn't go into the Hall of Fame on a draw. they would have to actually win their 5th match. Dunno. Seeing what people think.

Destor 03-14-2008 02:44 AM

Liking WWKDs idea though. Still dont like the idea of a guy going into the HoF on a draw though.

Heros Welcome 03-14-2008 02:50 AM

I'm diggin WWKD's idea

Destor 03-14-2008 02:52 AM

Sounds good. Still think they should have to get five wins to go into the hoF.

KYR 03-14-2008 03:13 AM

Just like to say for the record that I really like these and that D is doing a great job.

Great discussions from everyone as well and brings back lots of memories and has lead to me viewing some old footage as well (forgot how great some of those matches were).

So are you keeping this just for Wrestlers or are you planning to eventually have a manager (although I think I know who'd win that) or Tag Teams as well?

Destor 03-14-2008 03:17 AM

Well I lean toward one step at a time. It will take a long while to go through all the great (and not so great) wrestlers of the world. See how interest holds up then who knows. Other similar games have had sucessful spin offs but I dont thik we're reall ready for all that jazz atm. Dunno.

Also call me Dez.

Destor 03-14-2008 03:18 AM

Or "Triple Desty" as TOVO would say.

Mr. JL 03-14-2008 03:56 AM

Chris F'N Jericho people!

Rammsteinmad 03-14-2008 03:58 AM

Man that was a tough one. I love both these guys, but didn't wanna choose "draw". I ended up going with Jericho coz I like Fozzy. :D

Londoner 03-14-2008 08:05 AM

Gonna say draw. Too tight to call.

Destor 03-14-2008 03:30 PM

Jericho is only five behind.

Londoner 03-14-2008 03:56 PM

I should've voted jericho then.

NeanderCarl 03-14-2008 06:46 PM

Oh come on.... everybody views Eddie through rose tinted specs because he died, but let's be fair...

I found him to be mostly boring in his WCW days, partly due to a lack of suitable opponents for his style... he never developed a face character that was truly over in the US until his late WWE run in the mid 2000s... had matured into a superb all rounder (as a heel or face) by the time he died who had the crowd eating out of his hand, but he was really a late developer in that respect.

Maybe Guerrero on his best day would give Jericho on his best day a good run for his money, but overall Jericho takes it for me. And Guerrero was certainly not Jericho's peer on the stick.

NeanderCarl 03-14-2008 06:50 PM

I'll give Eddie this much... he was a better heel than Jericho.

Jericho was a more entertaining heel in WCW 1998, by being a whiny, annoying bitch... but it was OTT entertainment. Heel Guerrero (AAA 1994, WCW 1997, WWE 2005), in contrast, was just a mean, nasty bastard as a heel, subtler and more effective in inciting the right kind of heat.

Destor 03-14-2008 07:53 PM

Eddie was fantastic in WCW. I have no idea what you are talking about.

Destor 03-14-2008 08:00 PM

This is close. Two days to go though.

Rob 03-14-2008 09:00 PM

I enjoy watching Jericho more but Guerrero was a better worker.

CSL 03-14-2008 09:23 PM

Eddie. Never bought into Jericho as the complete package.

CSL 03-14-2008 09:25 PM

Still can't believe Hennig jobbed to Jericho

I'm with ya, although every time a "TPWW's favorite wrestler" thread comes up it comes down to Jericho and Angle. So I shouldn't be surprised.

Better Than You 03-14-2008 11:34 PM

I honestly don't know who is better here. These two are so even it's insane, if there ever was a reason for a draw this is it.

17-18-13

That's close

Heros Welcome 03-15-2008 02:57 PM

And we are all tied up! This is really going down the wire.

Jeritron 03-15-2008 02:59 PM

Eddie was great, but for me he was only entertaining for a short period of time. I found his matches and work in WCW to be great, but I was fairly bored with him in all aspects besides that at that time.

On the mic, he was great but he didn't have as much command. I think he just acted loco and naturally funny adn that worked for him later in his career.

Jericho is a step behind in wrestling ability, but thats not a bad thing since Eddie is ahead of the pack and Jericho is right behind.

Jericho entertained me more, over a longer period of time, in more diverse ways, and in all stages of his career.
Eddie would get the vote for in ring bell to bell ability by a bit.
Jericho would get the vote for everything else.

Jeritron 03-15-2008 03:04 PM

No slight to Eddie, if he was alive today I don't think it'd be so close. To wrestling fans nowadays, he's got that martyr appeal like Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Cobain or Tupac do in music. Amazing talent, but elevated to higher stardom by untimely death

KingofOldSchool 03-15-2008 04:35 PM

You know this should thread should just be changed to "Favorite Wrestler" because I doubt anybody is really voting on who is/was better in the ring more so who they mark out more over.

Destor 03-15-2008 04:44 PM

favorite wrestler doesn't really spark a discussion now does it?

Porcupine 03-15-2008 04:50 PM

Eddie for me, simply because I liked more of his stuff than that of Jericho and I just liked him better in every department.

Destor 03-15-2008 04:52 PM

While it's a small percentage I'm sure some people are voting against the guy they like more, and actually voted on who they think is the better wrestler. The thing is wreslter isnt just in ring. Is the whole deal. Wrestleris a job title. Its what they do for a living. So really you can always find a way to justify why your favorite is better.

Isn't that why we like guys anyway? Becuase they're better than the others?

Porcupine 03-15-2008 04:56 PM

I just vote on who entertained me more, because ultimately, I think thats a reflection of how much of a "total package" the person was.

That includes how good they are in ring/on mic as well as how well they can play heel/face and how diverse they were in their roles.

Londoner 03-15-2008 05:19 PM

I really should've voted Jericho now, AARRGGHHH so close!

Destor 03-15-2008 05:22 PM

you're only wanting to vote Jericho to help him.

The point of this thread is to open a gap into a space-time-cosmic dimension that has been unexplored ever since 1900 when Theodore Roosevelt got a little tipsy at a party and slipped into this odd, ethereal dimension that he could not escape. The evil dimension created a clone at the same exact time that Roosevelt fell into it and the clone ruled the US every year since then, changing shapes and forms...a clone that could only be defeated by the power of one man...

I'd vote against Jericho in a situation where I don't think he deserves to win, even if he's (by markdom) my favorite.

I can think of a handful of wrestlers I'd vote for over him when weighing all aspects. Eddie isn't one of them, but comes close

Destor 03-16-2008 09:17 AM

Feel free to post picks for next round. Coming up on it.

Blue Demon 03-16-2008 09:21 AM
