The Official WWE Smackdown vs. Raw Thread
<font color=goldenrod>Yeah, the HCTP thread seems to be dead, so I figure I'd start one for Smackdown 6.
Discuss what you want/who you want to see in the game. One thing I'd want to be able to do is to have certain moves that DON'T automatically go into a pinfall. For instance, say I'm RVD. If I'm in a Royal Rumble or Ladder match or a match that doesn't involve pinfalls, I don't want to have to go into a pinfall and allow my opponent to get back up, so here's an idea: If I'm RVD in a Rumble match, I go to the top rope. I press L1 to do the Five Star Frog Splash, I hit the move, but I don't pin automatically. Now, if I were in a singles match, I could press AND HOLD L1 and then I'd get the animation of him hitting the 5 Star and then rolling over for the pin. Also, I'd like to see the Bra and Panties match taken out, it's completely pointless. And no legends either, if I want legends, I'll create them myself.</font> |
w00t first post of SD6 topic. Along with the one in SD5 thread on old school forums.
Anyway I hope they change the way in the rumble, if you get eliminated and quit, then someone whose already been eliminated DOESN'T win. |
<font color=goldenrod>Since I'm bored, here's a list of people I'm predicting are going to be in the game, I'm going to be basing it off of the current direction of the WWE, and I'll be using the same amount of wrestlers that were in HCTP (62)
1. The Rock 2. Triple H 3. Stone Cold Steve Austin 4. The Undertaker 5. Shawn Michaels 6. Kane 7. Kurt Angle 8. Chris Jericho 9. Chris Benoit 10. Big Show 11. Edge 12. Christian 13. Eddie Guerrero 14. Vince McMahon 15. Paul Heyman 16. Eric Bischoff 17. Booker T 18. Rob Van Dam 19. Chavo Guerrero 20. Rey Mysterio 21. Charlie Haas 22. Shelton Benjamin 23. Mark Henry 24. Mark Jindrak 25. Garrison Cade 26. Bubba Ray Dudley 27. D-Von Dudley 28. Rikishi 29. Scotty 2 Hotty 30. Tajiri 31. Jamie Noble 32. John Cena 33. Randy Orton 34. Ric Flair 35. Batista 36. Danny Basham 37. Doug Basham 38. Matt Hardy 39. Test 40. Scott Steiner 41. Shannon Moore 42. Nunzio 43. Johnny Stamboli 44. Chuck Palumbo 45. Billy Gunn 46. Matt Morgan 47. Rob Conway 48. Rene Dupree 49. Sylvan Grenier 50. A-Train 51. Hardcore Holly 52. Trish Stratus 53. Victoria 54. Lita 55. Stacy Keibler 56. Torrie Wilson 57. Sable 59. Stephanie McMahon 60. Dawn Marie 61. Gail Kim 62. Molly Holly Other possibles: Brock Lesnar - If he doesn't leave. Goldberg - If he doesn't leave. Jeff Hardy - If he comes back. Looks like a pretty decent roster to me.</font> |
Id like the option to break up submission moves in tag matches. My freinds and I are setting up challenges in which were taking on the top 3 ranked guys (old school taker goldberg at 94 and HHH at 91) and were the three lowest guys mostly created on smackdown level. everytime a indian lock or dragon sleepers applied on a member of the team I cant break it up and eventualy whoever has it on taps.
Id love for decent commitary as well...Also when its a six man match (I hope they up it to 8) and every wrestler comes down by himself the other wrestlers disapear during the entrance. id like to see them in the ring while the rest of the guys come down or at least standing outside the ring. Also attacking someone as they make there entrance like on RAW for X-BOX. |
Vito, how dare you leave Ultimo Dragon off that list, yet have Stacy Kiebler?

Otherwise, I agree with everything you said. |
one thing I thought would be good, is if the royal rumble would be more reallistic, i'm talking about, punching them so they lean back on the ropes, then grapple, and a submission bar will appear, you have to get them to submit aka, lifting them completely over the top rope, i got tired of rico kicking me and flying over the top rope :$
[/copy and paste from sd5 thread] |
I like the pinning/non pinning finisher idea.
-edit- I would like a few moves that HOLD an opponent for someone to hit ala. no mercy that would rule. |
Id like to see fatal 4 tag team matches

What I want in Fantasy Preview format..:
Placeholder Title: "SmackDown!: You're Next" (If he somehow stays) Kalyx Tr-IGN Insider: The new Smackdown game promises to improve on several aspects while adding new gameplay mechanics. -Even faster arcade gameplay! But oxymoronically more realistic as well! -That pin-option idea in the first post! -Breaking up submissions! -Improved Create-an-Intro interface! No more Music-Moves-Movie set-up! Tweek lighting, animations, pyro, and specialized timing for entrance and pyro! -Complete overhaul of Original Music! The three year old list is banished! -New three-man stable entrances! Better tag team entrances! -Multiplayer season! -Commentary NEVER returns! |
Hmmm....let's see. What would I like to see in SD6?
-More ways to interact with a table. Like, if you try a move off the top, and your opponent rolls off the table, you go through instead. -Breaking up submissions AND normal moves (like in Fire Pro) -More reversal animations -AI that gets smarter on harder difficulty levels instead of just being a cheap sonofabitch -Completely redo the stats system so that "strength" isn't the only one that's worth two shits. (ex: Rey Mysterio beats on Big Show for a full 5 minutes, then Show does the exact same amount of damage in 3 moves and wins    ) -OR, have alternate movesets for each wrestler: like, an alternate to use against cruiserweights, another against Hosses, etc. -Power and signature moves should be more easily reversed until some actual damage is done. -Cage and Ladder matches re-done so they last longer than 5 seconds (like in Wrestlemania 2000, where your spirit meter reflected how long you could climb) -Change it so that doing superplexes and stuff off the ladder hurts your opponent, not just you  (anyone else run into that?) -While we're at it, how's about adding some new spots for cage matches? (slamming the opponent into the steel, superplexing him off the top, etc) -If you're going to put commentary back in, take a hint from the various football games out there on how to do it without it sucking. -For season mode, make the area-specific damage system last long-term. Like, if you keep taking damage to your arm, the arm will eventually get injured. Something like that. -A 2-Disc set. One for the game itself, one for the CAW section, which could make enough room for TONS of new things (create-an-entrance, possibly even the long saught-after "create-a-move," etc) -Oh, and bring back the Casket Match. I dunno why; I just loved the Casket match in SD2. |
Add newer and more weapons..I get tired of 2 chairs a sledge and table being the only thing under a ring and if your going to have annouce tables at least put people at the tables..maybe add a few camera men walking around wether interactive or not.
|
An entire revamp on how stable's work. The stable's in HCTP are a complete farce.
|
I recon you get the chair from the annoucetable
a belt (if you're the champ) from the time keeper table :D also take the bell :D the sledge hammer from the announce table (that's where get get the hammers now anyway. a table from the top of the ring, a ladder from the right side of the ring trashcans and random hardcore weapons from the left side and something from the bottom i dunno what. ...actually, it'll be good to be able to select which weapons you pull out and from where, like when you're creating a superstar, you select the weapons they get i.e. top of ring = table left side of ring = trash can Right side of ring = Ladder Bottom of ring = bamboo cane you know? |
Weapon moves take more damage on the oppenent then regular moves. I'm not talking about how HCTP meter took you down, because that was too easy to get your oppenent down with, I'm looking for something more realistic. Other then that I don't know how to explain it.
Rag-Doll physics. Not overexcessive where they practically bend completely backwards into and O but realistic physics. That would make the damage system so much easier it's not even funny. More weapon animations. Larger arenas with revamped crowd fighting. So you can walk through the crowd and go to the back my like by the entrance. This one is kind of far fetched though. |
Easier CAW feature
More wrestlers Title defense in Exhibition Larger stables More Tag/Stable options Create-An-Entrance Women in Season Two or more players in season Extra music and videos Create-A-PPV Create-A-Title |
Almost forgot, custom entrance music. Kind of like RAW I guess but for a SD game.
More creative control over entrances too. |
[QUOTE=Nowhere Man]
-Completely redo the stats system so that "strength" isn't the only one that's worth two shits. (ex: Rey Mysterio beats on Big Show for a full 5 minutes, then Show does the exact same amount of damage in 3 moves and wins    ) QUOTE] That's the case dude. |

This is what I think should be in it---
You should be able to do more stuff with Tables If someone is in a Stable with you they should help you out in Royal Rumble's You should be able to Back Body Drop People over the top rope. More Legends should be in it there will be more posted in the future Maven should be in it. |
I AVHERD TAHT U WILL SEE TEH MONRTEAL SCRUJOB IN SEESON AND IT WILL UNLCOK BREATT HEART IS THIS TROO?!?!?!?!!!!111?//?!??!?!
|
Yes.
|
Hmmmm...
Overhaul the damage system. Recovery time should be affected by the damage taken. Damage should also do more than affect you on occasion. Howabout improving thhe hit detection and making it look like wrestlers are actually grabbing one another? |
Quote:
|
This may well have been mentioned before, too, but howabout the custom entrances from like Raw 2 or Wrestlemania XIX? Time pyro and smoke and such and make it look all spiffy.
One thing that I hate from the Smackdown series is the prefab entrances. You have to copy someone line for line. :wtf: A lot of times, that just doesn't fit. Also, I'd like to see custom "signature" moves. You know how some moves have an intro animation, a mini "taunt" of sorts? Think Last Ride, or something similar. |
Quote:
|
Something that I just thought about..
I liked how in Raw you could attack a wrestler while he was entering the ring. I dont know if its in Raw 2 since I havnt played it but I loved that about Raw. |
- Some way to get your roster updated all the time
- And Please no legends - Create an Belt, Create an PPV, Create an Brand would be cool 2 IMO,Creat an Match - Online function would be cool 2 - Better Story Line, not as short as Smackdown 5 - A way to get out of Submission moves faster - Burried alive match, 8 man tag Thats all i can think of at the moment. |

And I really think that there should be a point where if you beat someone bad enough and hard enough they won't get up at all. And the ability in CAW to edit superstar's attire. |
I can see the 7 minute Lottery Draft cut-scene now. Or rather, have the season mode start several months before the event so you could really be on the edge of your seat as to what show you may end up on. Or rather...
This may seem radical, but how about an online mode where created characters face off on a schedule similar to real life (house shows and such)? You register your character and the server places you on say Raw 21 or Smackdown 36 (numbered for the fact the so many people will register that there'll be more than one Raw and Smackdown). You start out house shows and such, eventually doing the big time thing after you established a certain level; as with most MMORPG. When you're placed on a Raw or Smackdown, you're privilaged with options similar to Raw2's 'cool concept-bad execution' season mode interface. Since you don't know what other players have planned for the night, the events and user made story-lines should prove more entertaining than the real programs. Server masters will serve as the GM's of your particular Raw or Smackdown. They'd be real people who, for the sake of the product, will indeed play the heel or face role to enhance the story. You can ask them questions and request titles shots like the current SD season mode, except they'd be real WWE employees. Incase you're wondering who'd take a job like that, remember I stated that the shows will run at certain times. So it isn't a 24 hour gig. Yes you can get injured. Me and my friends played with this idea that your initial limbs (legs, arms, head, torso) have something of an 'Season-Life-Bar'. The SLB depletes if for some reason one of your limbs have been taking exclusive damage match after match. (This also adds to the already decent submission-limb attack element strategy). Apon being injured, you'll need to play work out minigames to refill your SLB. YOU can choose to comeback after a certain amount of time, but will you risk returning to action on an SLB that isn't completely refilled..? Oh the drama. Ofcourse you can sit back and watch the show. Imagine, having to choose to watch the ongoing rivalry between me and Kane Knights characters on Raw 6. Or watching Siphiroth and shaggy's ladder match at a PPV game. (Names choosen for sake of examples.) Also, to give a certain draft storyline consistancy, every Raw server has a 'brother' Smackdown server. So you'd be smart to watch the exploits of Raw 24 if you're playing in Smackdown 24; cause you may end up in that 'locker room'! Players will choosen based on performance to cut promos, where with a trust USB Logitech keyboard, you could try and out do The Rock's funniest mic time. My brains smashed, I'll come back when new stuff is in. |
...Four player Bra and Pannies match won't kill either, considering it was actually fun to play once a week.
|
BRING BACK TWO PLAYER SEASON MODE DAMNIT.
|
Better manager system: Teddy Long, Paul Heyman, Ric Flair and Divas can be managers, which contribute to angles in the season mode
GM mode: Beat the other brand by booking the best matches, making the best trades, and drafting folks from the OVW (who would be el generico wrestlers creaded by random CAW assignments). Something similar to the GM modes in the EA Sports franchise. |
<font color=goldenrod>If managers do indeed make it in, the ones I'd want to see are: Theodore Long, Paul Heyman, Stacy Keibler, Trish Stratus, Miss Jackie, and Chavo Guerrero Sr.</font>

Huge Update On WWE Smackdown! 6; Name Revealed
Story By: Niel Stephens April 11, 2004 Thanks to reader Rosser for the following: I was in a Dearborn Michigan Gamestop store on Saturday 4.10.04 and saw pre-order game boxes for the new Smackdown game coming soon. All the boxes had John Cena on the front and the game was called WWE Smackdown: Word Life. As i reported yesterday, the official release date for this game on Playstation 2 looks to be November 2004. We'll keep you updated. |
lol how the hell is that a huge update???

I'm pretty good at being intentionally offensive, so I'm always surprised when people take offense at the rest of my lines... :| |
A change I'd like to see is instead of getting dizzy. After hitting a move (like a DDT) you lay down for a few seconds.
|
What I'd like to see:
as mentioned before, moves that don't pin automatically, but have the option to pin, and the ability to break up submission moves, whether internally (square button, just like pins) or externally (someone comes in to knock them out of it) also, in the CAW mode, more "pieces" and designs. I had to manually create a lot of the stuff I used in SD4, like those "kickboxer" socks. I never thought that Smackdown could be dethroned in the CAW department, but after seeing WMXIX... otherwise, they're doing a bang-up job, and they really improved with SD!5... I wouldn't change anything about the game play...just make more of the old submissions in the new style.... but some moves (T-Bone Suplex 1 for example) need to go back into the "non-finisher" category. The alternate Book End (the one debuted in WMX8 and only in SD4) needs to come back as either a finisher or a usable grapple. Hell In The Cell and Cage matches need a revamping. All Smackdown needs to do is copy the GC Wrestlemania series' style. That was the best Hell In The Cell ever. Cage matches, same deal. Use the "tug of war" system in getting out and allow moves -against- the cage or from the side of the cage like in No Mercy and the current Hell In A Cell match. Even with Pin/Give Up options, it still is too ...bare. Finally, female wrestlers: Allow them to be used in Season again without loopholes. They can either play the manager role (if they're on Smackdown) or have endless battles on earning the Women's title. Also, allow them to be attacked post-match (how many times did we have to see Test, Austin, and other heels attack them), and for them to bleed (first blood style)....women wear the crimson mask, too, you know. |
The next SmackDown! will NOT be subtitled "Word Life". My guess is it was going to be called that and then everyone and their mama's started talking about it; so they killed the name. I mean really, we know they choose this stuff based the current hot superstar, and Cena's it. Let's hope they don't go for "Toothless Aggression".
|
<font color=goldenrod>WWE SmackDown: Legend Killer</font> :shifty:
|
they really shouldn't call it Smackdown anymore, since you can play on both RAW and Smackdown, they should just call it WWE: whatever.
|
Quote:
You're rant could be expanded to include XBox's Raw series. But at this point, best not to mess with the title. That's like calling the next Madden "EA Sports NFL Superbowl 2005". Even though the series doesn't really need his name anymore, it'll just be weird. |
Two player season mode please

Multiplayer season mode is a must

Several wrestling websites have been reporting for a few weeks now that the next iteration of THQ's Smackdown franchise would be officially titled WWE Smackdown: Word Life and make its worldwide appearance at the 2004 Electronic Entertainment Expo in May. Others have even gone on to speculate that the first game footage of Smackdown may appear before the big show itself. Not surprisingly, however, there haven't been any official announcements confirming any of this from THQ representatives. But since we're such big Smackdown fans in the first place, we decided to give our pals at THQ a call to get to the bottom of this. "Smackdown 6 will not be called Word Life</I>," chuckled the representative we spoke with. "In fact, it won't have any title affiliated with John Cena at all. So that means it won't be called Thuganomics or anything like that either. Right now, it's just being referred to as Smackdown VI internally and will stay that way until we make an announcement otherwise." In regards to the question of whether or not Smackdown will appear at this year's E3, THQ wasn't quite as forthcoming with a comment. But based on our own personal experiences with the series and its development cycle, we don't expect the game to make an appearance at E3 at all. Historically, the official Smackdown announcement has come later and later each year since the appearance of the first game (remember, only the logo appeared at E3 last year), and with Day of Reckoning one of THQ's centerpiece products at the show for 2004, we don't expect the company to want their spotlight to divert. Whether or not that will happen officially, we'll have to wait and see. |
news here answered by someone at THQ, info from http://sdgaming.lgn.uni.cc/games/sd6/main.html
Q1. Have any new match types been added. All I can say on this is we are working on one but the way things are going it does not look like its gonna be in. Sorry thats all I can say. Q2. How many are hopefully gonna make it in the final roster. We are hoping Fingers crossed for a roster between 55 - 70. Q3. Are there any kind of INNOVATING new things being put in this one. We are keeping the grappling system virtually the same after the huge sucess of the last one, bet we are thinking of tweeking it.But Nothing To Major. But Online Play is pretty Innovating for a wrestling game. Q4. Do you enjoy your job. Somedays and Somedays I don't. But mostly yes. Otherwise I would Quit. Q5. Will Undertaker be appearing as the dead man. Yes. Q6. Will there still be Jeff Hardy's moveset. Yes. Q7. Will shane O Mac and Mick Foley be in. Mick Foley Yes Shane O Mac the moment 50/50 because he has only featured once last year really. But we Thq feel there are more important wrestlers to fill the roster. Q8. Which divas will be in the game. Victoria, Trish Stratus, Stacy Kiebler, Torrie Wilson, Gail Kim, Molly Holly, Lita, Jazz, but we might be taken Jazz out. Q9. Will the divas each have 2 or more attires. Can't really gives you news on this because there aint none except for Torrie wilson she does. Q10. Which wrestlers/divas have been put in the game so far. Torrie Wilson, Stacy Kiebler, Trish Stratus and Gail Kim. Q11. Will "legends" be in again? If so, any ideas of who's being lined up. We are unsure we might not be adding this feature this year, all because of Copy rights and disk space. We have been trying really hard to get The Ultimate Warrior on a Smackdown game but because Mr Warrior owns the rights he has the final word. He pulled out last year due to two reason. 1, Better offer from Acclaim and he would rather be on LOW than a wwe title. But we are trying to get the rights for Bret The Hitman Hart all sorted out. So another Idea for the game is to just have less Legends this years. But overall its a 50/50 chance of Legends making it. Also Andre The Giant & Hulk Hogan all possiblities. Q12. Will kane/Rvd/Victoria/Dudleys/Rikishi have their new themes. Kane we have sorted the Copy rights out just as Smackdown 5 was shipped so yes, Rikishi Yes, Dudleys still not settled the same with Victoria. Q13. Will Smackdown! Word Life be at E3. No plans for it to be there so no, But things might change if we feel we have not got a strong line at this years E3. Q14. Will royal rumble be better. No real big changes yet but, there is talk in the pipe line of having more people in the ring. Q15. Will kane sit up as well as undertaker. His Moveset has not even been touched yet from the previous smackdown yet, so at the moment no. Q16. Will there be better chair moves like more specials. We are trying to make the enviroment more interactive then ever this year that includes chairs but the design team upstairs are sorting that stuff out so i'll ask them tommorow for you. But at the moment...well when I saw them this morning they where working on The Wrestlemania XX Arena. Q17. How many specials per superstar. Same as last time, only 2. Q18. Is kane going to have his whole attire (SD!5 one) and then his tights. Kane's attire at the moment is just the one with tights and no top. Q19. Will Austins ATV be featured in the game. Yes. Q20. If you are Taker for season mode and your at WMXX, will druids & Paul bearer be there. We are planning to have this in the game at Wrestlemania XX. |
Sweet stuff

Yeah take Jazz out :D

When I hear the bell toll on my PS2 once again, I'm going to drop my controller. The Undertaker has returned and no one will survive...
Enough marking out, what I wanna know; is the music. Will they be the authenic themes for the wrestlers? Some wrestlers had older themes in the newest THQ games. The worst/best example was the Dudleys going back two themes to their WWE introduction theme! I understand if we don't get to "Drop the Bombshell", but Saliva's theme would've been a good alternate; it being the song before Powerman's. Let's pray to Undertaker for online play... "Anah macra...." |
Something I just thought of as far as improvements: if you're in a title match, the belt should be at ringside for use as a weapon.
|
<font color=goldenrod>I'm bumping this so that its ahead of that bullshit Dark-Slicer thread.</font>
|
<font color=goldenrod>I think it'd be cool if they had a re-hash of the invasion angle in season mode, only with the brands. (Pretend that it is using a 2-year season)
Then you'd have one last Elimination Tag match at Survivor Series of the first year to see which brand reigns supreme. If your brand wins, it takes over and you end up having 2 matches a week (one on each show because the other brand was destroyed). Then eventually it could lead into the draft lottery storyline and the other brand gets brought back after WrestleMania for the draft lottery. If your brand loses, you miss so much stuff and you end up coming back after WrestleMania for the draft lottery. I think it'd be an awesome angle, and it'd give you something to play for because naturally you wouldn't want to miss 4 months of action (and all the chances to get money, experience, and superstar points) - plus you'd miss cool stuff like the Rumble and WrestleMania.</font> |
^^that would be cool.
|
<font color=goldenrod>It's kinda early, but who will you be using in you first season through?
I've just realized that every Smackdown game, I've used different people for season the first time. Smackdown: Triple H Smackdown KYR: The Undertaker Smackdown JBI: Tazz Smackdown SYM: DDP Smackdown HCTP: Chris Jericho So for SD vs. Raw, I plan on keeping this tradition, and if he's in the game, I will be using EUGENE</font> |
<font color=goldenrod>Damn, this thread is dead. :(
Uhhh......so.........what new match types do you wanna see in the game? I wouldn't mind seeing a 10-Man gauntlet in the game. Also a buried alive match and a survivor series elimination tag team match. Also, if possible, I think it'd be cool if they could have a 20-Man Battle Royal. I know it may seem impossible, but I think the PS2's memory could handle it so that it wouldn't go ridiculously slow. Sure, it'd go slower than the other match types, but it'd gradually go faster as people get eliminated.</font> |
Smackdown
Mankind Smackdown: Know Your Role Kurt Angle Smackdown: Just Bring It (I never owned it) Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth Spike Dudley Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain Roddy Piper Smackdown: vs. Raw More then likley it'll be... John Bradshaw Layfield |
I would like to see a customizable "Slobber Knocker" so that you could do gauntlet matches and Tag Turmoil-type stuff.
Survivor Series is something I've wanted in a game since...oh...Super Wrestlemania? More moves. More interactive arenas (which it sounds like they're working on). As good as the story was in HCTP, once you've played it so many times (as I have trying to get my updated roster CAWs up to appropriate levels), it gets so damned repetitive. No commentary except a non-stop stream of "Puppies" during diva matches and "BAHGAWDSTUNNER" after "holy shit" moments. Okay, that last one isn't necessary. |

WWE SmackDown! Vs. Raw is scheduled for release exclusively on PlayStation 2 for holiday 2004 and will feature the WWE's two biggest brands battling it out for supremacy. The game will feature all the wrestlers from both shows, new features and improved graphics. -------------------- Everyone from both shows..................that means guys like Paul London and Akio would be in....................oh dear God I hope it's true.</font> |
Doubt it. Keep in mind the people who usually report on WWE games seem to know jack about WWE games. Read previews right now and see how they talk about "authenic themes" and "wide selection of matches" like they haven't been the norm for 6-years-plus now.
|
Because of the details of the story I can't reveal much, but know this:
In less than one week you'll finally have what you're looking for. How much less than a week? I can't say yet, but keep those eyes peeled. That is all. posted by Makaze-IGN on the IGN forums who is Editor-in-Chief for IGNPS2 |
I thought the next smackdown game Had John Cena in on the cover and was going to be named "Word Life". Anyway I think Smackdown should do what raw did with attire. Hats and bandannas get knocked off your head another wrestler can pick up the item and put it on. I also like in Raw where you can attack someone coming to the ring. Smackdown should incorrporate that as well. |
Here it is, the first info for WWE Smackdown! vs RAW straight from IGN
As passionate as the teams at THQ and Yuke's are about their WWE Smackdown franchise, getting them to talk about the next iteration of the series hasn't exactly been easy. Originally announced last month exclusively through IGN prior to the Electronic Entertainment Expo, the sixth installment known as Smackdown! vs. RAW has been quickly transformed into one of the most talked about forthcoming PS2 titles this year. And with speculation and rumors about the game already running rampant, we felt it our duty to get to the bottom of it all so that we could set the record straight. Sadly that's easier said than done. As our buddies at THQ are keeping tight-lipped regarding the implementation of this year's roster and feature set. "Honestly, we're just not ready to reveal too much about the game yet," said the THQ representatives we spoke with. "In fact, you guys [IGN] will probably be doing most of the roster revelations yourselves when you kick off your Smackdown Countdown later this year. We like secrets. Secrets are good." Apparently the roster isn't the only thing remaining covert, though; as THQ has an absolutely massive undisclosed gameplay option that will be announced sometime over the next couple of weeks. And while we can't get official confirmation as to just what that secret may end up being just yet, the word on the street is that it's that it's the one extra that everyone has been waiting for since the advent of PS2 Network Adapter: Online connectivity. And from what we understand, that's not so far off from the truth. Speculation aside, we were at least able to confirm several of Smackdown vs. RAW's specifics in relation to what's been left over from last year's effort Here Comes the Pain. Six-person simultaneous play, for instance, has once again been brought back so that players can make the most of a pair of Multi-tap peripherals. And every single one of 2003's game modes have returned to action too; with match types like Hell in the Cell, Slobber Knocker, Table Matches, and First Blood back and bigger than ever. Much to our chagrin, THQ would not confirm any of its new modes or gameplay features in time for us to meet our deadline; though the company representatives did assure us that Smackdown vs. RAW would boast several of them before all is said and done. Visually the game has been given a boost too. Character models and attire in particular have a lot more detail than they did before, with a continued emphasis on facial recreation and animation. "You're going to freak out when you see this new one in motion," whispered a THQ employee that wished to remain anonymous. "It's easily the best looking game in the series." Old-school fans should also be pleased to know that legends have been reinstated for the roster as well, with a stronger focus on big name stars and classic personalities. And while there will definitely be a few historical grapplers from last year's version to make the rounds all over again, THQ has also included some new representatives to bolster the ranks. We're told that the updated roster will be comprised of some of the biggest classic names in the industry too; but because of ongoing contractual negotiations, can't be named. But that doesn't mean that we didn't get the names of some of the planned Smackdown vs. RAW active superstars. As we finally managed to get the THQ guys to spill the beans regarding the lineup. "It will definitely have all the champions in there, how could it not?" remarked aTHQ rep. "Of course, we'll have several surprises and divas on the list too, but for now, you can bet that the champions and their top contenders will be in there." Specifically, players can expect to see Randy Orton, John Cena, Triple H, Chris Benoit, Shawn Michaels, and Eddie Guerrero. Unforunately we couldn't confirm whether or not Tag Team champ Edge or the oft-wanted La Resistance would be in there. But secrecy seems to be Smackdown vs. RAWs theme this year. As THQ have plans to reveal details more meticulously than in the years before it. The company did confirm one final tidbit about the game, though, which is its release date: November 2004. And with almost half a year left, the time should give anxious WWE gamers plenty of time to digest exactly what lies before them. The good news is that your buddies at IGN will be with you every step of the way. As we plan on continuing our popular Smackdown Countdown features from seasons previous with the most information, media, and news regarding the game than anywhere else in the world. In fact, on our media page below we've included the first handful of screenshots taken from an early build. And you can expect us to return again next week (and rather soon at that) with the first official trailer that you won't be able to find anywhere else. So saddle up WWE fans -- today's tidbits was only the beginning. We'll be back again with more next week. now w/o any further delay, here are the first screenshots of the only 2 fully known superstars, the Legend Killer Randy Orton and the Doctor of Thuganomics John Cena http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/670/6...g_2179489.html http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/670/6...g_2179490.html http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/670/6...g_2179491.html http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/670/6...g_2179492.html http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/sm...ect_160_00.jpg |

That looks nothing like Orton, but hopefully they'll improve it by November. |
Kick ass. Online play would rule many times over; if that's the case. Why keep the roster secret, we can safely guess who's gonna be in. Legends returning is abit sketchy, but I don't mind. It feels like yesterday I opened HCTP, now the hype for the next Smackdown is not only alive, it's damn there OVER with less than a season to wait.

I'm acually very impressed by those screens, even if Orton's face does look a tad bit off.
Looks to me like this will be a bigger leap graphically than HCTP was over SYM. |
For those who are too lazy to go to the acual site.

There's no doubt that our preview of WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW generated plenty of excitement when we ran it over the weekend, but nothing gets a fan base keyed up more than a brand new movie. With that in mind, your buddies over at THQ and here at IGN have teamed up to bring you the first official trailer from Smackdown! vs. RAW. And while it certainly doesn't show that much by way of gameplay, at least it makes an attempt at drama -- something that the world of sports entertainment is renowned for.
To check it out for yourselves, click on our media page link below to enjoy our free 320x240 video files in the Windows format, with a special 640x480 hi-res version also available especially for our IGN Insider subscribers. We've even included one brand new hi-resolution screenshot as an added bonus! As always we'll be back with more on Smackdown! vs. RAW over the next couple of weeks and remind you to stay tuned for our annual Smackdown Countdown when it begins sometime this August. See you again, soon. http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/670/670847/vids_1.html# |
I would like to see everyone have a good entrance, not just the top stars. They gave Christian the exact same entrance in Smackdown 5, and they did in 4. I was so disappointed.
I would like the gameplay to be a bit slower. I want the Hell in a Cell, ladder, and cage matches to be more realistic. None of this climbing the cage/ladder in .3 seconds. I want to be able to use the cage as a weapon. |
