Mind-reading. Or you can have a look at stuff like last.fm, which basically just keeps track of everything people listen to - it'll compare members automatically, or you can just glance at the charts on each page.

If that was true, I'd have no artists in common with anyone at all.

It's horribly unreliable with new users anyway, since it obviously doesn't have much data to go off - takes a few weeks/months to really look at things properly.
