Call Of Duty 5
First details: http://www.destructoid.com/call-of-d...le-89791.phtml
Frankly, the idea of a flame thrower alone fills me with girlish glee. |
WWII
Booooo |
Quote:
I like CoD just fine, but the WWII thing has run its course. Hitler existed, Holocaust happened, etc, etc. We don't need 400 perspectives on it, and 100 different one man army POVs. Even so...I'll play it, because I know even though it's mostly rehashed from before, I still like it quite a bit. Guess I just got used to the Modern Warfare. However...A flamethrower is always killer, no matter what time period it exists in. |
Treyarch tho.
The only plus I see in this is that we're going out of Germany and going island hopping in the Pacific. A route most game developers rarely take when they take on a game based on WWII. Then again, there was Medal of Honor: Rising Sun. And that, IMO, is at the bottom of the barrel in that franchise.
After reading that, this doesn't bode well so far. Come on Infinity Ward, up the cash if need be to lock up the rights to the franchise. |
They are actually trying to do so, I believe. Don't think it's gonna happen tho. Activision has much deeper pockets.
I'm pretty sure that they know they have done too much with WWII, but that leads me to believe that they know what they are doing with this.
so has WW1 been covered yet?

and mustard gas.
Ah yes, that would be a quality aspect.
But I don't want to play WWII again unless I'm the one gassing the Jews, not being some English/American hero. |

i have loved every single socom game and they all had the modern combat theme. i dont understand the need to go back in time to WW2 so often.
If they do anymore WWII games after this (Where you're not gassing Jews, that is) they should be overly American-ised.
Like have no other countries in it other than the evil ones and America and you win the game by scoring a field goal with Hitlers head while the world chants USA. |
If it was Infinity Ward making this I wouldn't mind at all that they are doing the Pacific Theatre.
However, it's Treyarch, creators of the ass-wipe game of the series, CoD3. This game will sell out the ass even though it is destined to be an epic phail. |
Pretty sure someone is doing a WWI game actually but I don't remember the details. Lemme look it up.
WWII = WW Gay
Call of Duty 3 was good. This will be decent, but not as good as COD 4 of course.

so they added swimming to the game, not sure i care much at all about that new feature.
Even with everything I have read on this game in the last few days, I still stand by my original statement.
Treyarch = Epic phail. |
I probably won't be getting this anyway, I'd rather just rank up in CoD4 for hella long.
Kinda intrigued by it.
Plus, i'm god with an M1 in CoD3. |
COD3 was awesome, asswipes.
Trailer is finally up at gametrailers.com
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/35413.html I ain't liking it so far. |
Watched it and felt a resounding "MEH" afterwards.

It is an average at best game and if it wasn't labled as Call of Duty 3 it would have failed in sales as well. The only reason that game sold is because they leeched off of Infinity Wards greatness. |

Senior producer Noah Heller offered some insight into its absence, saying, "We're getting rid of the number in Call of Duty for a very specific reason: It's because we want you to know that when you're playing Call of Duty: World at War you're playing the best shooter, the best WW2 game ever. Likewise when you're playing Modern Warfare, likewise when you play any game that will be called Call of Duty."
WTF is he on about http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/ca...its-not-cod-5/ |
The fact that Infinity Ward is not developing this is enough to make me not give a shit.
Not that I'm very thrilled with Infinity Ward after their CoD4 patch, but they still manage to make a much better overall game. |

Hot indeed.
Why not world war 1, or the civil war? WWII gets so boring.
That being said, I'll pass on this.
They need Call of Duty: Rome |
Quote:
I enjoy trench warfare. Then why not a game based on Korea?
This is coming out for WII, so if they have decent online play then MAYBE I will get this. If it is good with wii controller. Probably not though.

From Gamespot:
Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War hasn't even stormed the beaches yet, but Activision is already talking about the next full installment in the series. In a half-day analysts' presentation yesterday, Activision Publishing president and CEO Mike Griffith confirmed that franchise creator Infinity Ward would be returning to develop the next Call of Duty game, which he referred to as Call of Duty 6 and pegged as a 2009 release. As for World at War, Griffith talked about Activision's efforts to monetize the franchise's online play. Specifically, he said that the Treyarch game would have three times the downloadable content as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and mentioned "Day One Advantage" premium content. Later in the presentation, the Day One Advantage was explained as "the ability to accelerate your experience points when you play online." Griffith said that the publisher was looking hard at additional ways of expanding the game's business model, and noted there was "tremendous opportunity" to bring the series to new "theaters, game designs, and plotlines" in the future. |

Not to hate on World at War, but now I am hyped for CoD6 instead. Hope they go modern again, WWII is kinda played out for me.
People. Who cares if it's WW2. You can use a katana in this game. A FUCKING KATANA.
On WII can you use the Zapper or can you point with the remote to aim?????? Cause that would be the best
That's only what they do with every shooter on the Wii.
Bunch of multiplayer videos.
http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/1...athmatch1.html At first, I was totally aainst this game due to the developer, and the setting. But holy shit, does that look good. I will definitely be getting this. |
Looks fucking hot. Can't wait.
Looks like COD4 in a WW2 setting.
Apparantly there's a multiplayer beta.

IGN:
October 13, 2008 - The dogs of war are being unleashed today, as Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and developer Treyarch announced the launch of the multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: World at War on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Console players can guarantee themselves a token by pre-ordering the game at North American GameStop retail locations,* or online. Call of Duty fans that register to become members at callofduty.com are also eligible to receive a token, but these tokens are limited in supply, so register today. Windows PC fans can expect a multiplayer beta soon. For more information about either beta and the opportunity to secure a beta token or key, fans can also visit www.callofduty.com/beta. The Call of Duty: World at War multiplayer betas will provide players with an opportunity to play as U.S. Marines, German Wehrmacht, Japanese Imperial Army and Russian Red Army factions in a variety of game types (Team Death Match, Free-For-All, Capture the Flag and War), across three different maps: * Castle: The Imperial Japanese Army faces off against the Marine Raiders in a daytime battle, located on the grounds of an ancient, Japanese castle. * Makin: The U.S. Marine Raiders square off against the Imperial Japanese Army in a nighttime fight, set in an outpost on the Makin Atoll in the Pacific. * Roundhouse: The Wehrmact will fight the Red Army to the bitter end in a daytime struggle that features tank and infantry combat, set in a desolate, war-torn European train depot. The betas will last for a few weeks; however, the full battle will commence on November 11, 2008 when Call of Duty: World at War is released to retailers nationwide. |
I registered at CallofDuty.com a few days ago, hope to get in soon.
Been playing it for a couple of hours, not great not bad. More of the same but with the older style weapons theres no big draw for it over COD4 for me really. The attack dogs instead of helicoptor are crap, the vehicles are pretty shit too
My 360 just had to Red Ring right before they release the beta. Awesome.
Congrats :y:
Just got this email:

lol Xbox 360
lol WII
Yeah after a couple of nights playing the beta I believe COD4 is still king.
Is it just because of the antiquated weapons, or is it the gameplay?
So a buddy of mine who works for Infinity Ward is in town and he informed me of something interesting that I thought might make a difference for some people. I know everyone is complaining that this is back to WWII BUT the reason for that it Infinity Ward has it in their contract that Treyarch can't do anything that post dates the 70s. So there's your reason.

Got the beta today. Digging it. It is basically COD4 in WW2. Like borderline identical. Kinda good, in that COD4 is of course amazing, but kinda bad in that there's not much that feels new.
So your 360 is ok?
Yeah. Got it back a week after it died.
I want to play. :(
How come I go away for 5 months and CoD4 gets no new maps. |
I got the PC beta code and don't plan on using it. Anyone that wants it PM me.

No PS3 beta is dumb.
Thanks to my craptacular new DSL, the beta should finish downloading by the end of the week. :foc:
So yeah, been playing most of the night. Really digging it. I like that the weapons are a little trickier to use. I'm doing extraordinarily well (for me) at sniping. The Arikasa is pretty overpowered once you scope it.
Also the levels are amazing. And huge. |
Horrible game.
pass
Love it.
The co-op campaign on veteran is a fucking blast. |
Wow. So I was dead wrong about this one. Really fun game. Actually feels like IW made it. Multiplayer is still addictive as ever. WHile I miss my red dots, and helicopters, there is a ton of stuff here to make up for it.
Surprised how much I'm enjoying singleplyer too. The new setting, as well as the unique tactics of the japanese empire, make for a different experience, both in atmosphere and gameplay, than other wwII games. Oh, and we have to get a tpww game of nazi zombies going. |
pass

The one thing I really do hate is that the dogs are way way overpowered. They hard to hit, take almost as many bullets to kill as a regular soldier, and they kill you in one or 2 hits. Should be minimum 3 hits. And there should be less of them.
Tanks are pretty bad too.
I have yet to be killed by a dog. They usually come in twos, so I shoot one and knife the other.
Hadn't played CoD since number 2 online but played on this one last night on the XBox 360 at my brother's house. For me, the dogs and tanks spoil it a bit. I don't mind the odd tank map but it seemed like quite a few from what I played, the dogs are just stupid along the lines of what Blitz was saying. I felt the best way to play was to camp which isn't the best. Having said that, I was hooked and had to drag myself away from it before I done something like stop there all night.
sweeeeeeet
Havn't been playing this enough. Or 360 in general. |
Modern Warfare 2 in 9 monthsssssssssssssss
Just popped this in again after a good solid 2 months of going back to COD4. New maps are a nice surprise.
Very depressing that CoD4 only had 1 map pack. :(
Was thinking about getting this, but not totally convinced. I'm just so bored with WWII games, so thats a big stumbling block. Will probably just end up waiting for Modern Warfare 2.
this one not bad, just waiting for cod modern warfare 2 it will rock.
I kinda want an X Box 360 to play this game with my mates and that but I seriously can't be arsed with a console that will break every five minutes.
