Preview:The 2008 WWE Draft
June 23, 2008

In the midst of the build-up to Night of Champions, there’s one thing on every Superstar’s mind: the 2008 WWE Draft. For the second year in a row, the Draft will take place on a special three-hour Raw, where all Superstars, all Divas and all announcers from all three brands are eligible. How will the entire landscape of sports-entertainment change in the wake of this year’s Draft?

Even with the Draft dominating Raw next week, Mr. McMahon has announced that there’s nothing keeping him from giving away another $1 million of his money as part of Mr. McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania. For your chance to get a share of the Chairman’s cash, all you have to do is register to win.

Temperatures continue to rise between WWE Champion Triple H and his Night of Champions challenger John Cena. Last week, Mr. McMahon was forced to send in a referee to keep The Game and Cena from taking each other apart at the very start of Raw, and we still have more than a week to go until Night of Champions, when they’ll finally be turned loose on one another. When two competitors this powerful and confident want to compete, is there anything capable of keeping them apart?

After being kept away from Cena, Triple H participated in a match against Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho as retaliation for Y2J’s cruel treatment of Shawn Michaels the week before. Jericho has stated that he’s tired of being booed for doing the right thing only to see HBK cheered for his dishonest behavior, and to back his claim, he was willing to throw down with not only the WWE Champion but also Ric Flair, in the Hall of Famer’s first appearance since his retirement. After having his head smashed into the Jeri-Tron 6000, Michaels is currently receiving medical care, but how long will it be before he returns to Raw looking for payback?

Though they have had their share of difficulties in prior weeks, the World Tag Team Champions Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes managed to defeat Cryme Tyme in a non-title match on Raw. Watching them compete was Ted DiBiase, who along with a partner of his choosing will be challenging Holly & Rhodes at Night of Champions in the third-generation Superstar’s first in-ring performance. Who is this mystery competitor, and will the World Tag Team Champions be able to stand up to their assault?

Tune in to witness sports-entertainment history on a three-hour Monday Night Raw at the special time of 8/7 CT only on the USA Network.

Someone give me a Sopcast so I can regale you with my insight tonight

ron the dial 06-23-2008 07:07 PM

hey i'm going to watch raw tonight! i hope that i'm not disappointed in the quality of the show!

#BROKEN Hasney 06-23-2008 07:09 PM

Depends how high your standards are.

If you havn't watched WWE since the 90's, you will be very dissapointed.

If you enjoyed WCW from 2000 until it closed, you may be impressed with what you see tonight

Anybody Thrilla 06-23-2008 07:09 PM

This is the first Raw thread I'll be participating in for quite some time. Should be a memorable one if nothing else.

I'm thinking MVP is going to Raw, btw.

Londoner 06-23-2008 07:09 PM

Might watch this tonight.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-23-2008 07:09 PM

PREDICTION: Warrior traded to the homosexuals

Londoner 06-23-2008 07:09 PM

Oh good it starts early tonight atleast.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-23-2008 07:10 PM

I'm on holiday from work so can afford to be up to the "wee" hours.

Also, I used the word regale, that must earn someone getting me sopcast

weather vane 06-23-2008 07:11 PM

Owen Hart

Evil Vito 06-23-2008 07:11 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Alright, time to throw some predictions in here. I'll guess there are 10 picks made on the show (assuming it is a lottery). I doubt they will all happen, but whatever:

Batista (Raw)
Carlito (ECW)
CM Punk (SmackDown)
Deuce (Raw)
Elijah Burke (Raw)
Jeff Hardy (ECW)
John Cena (SmackDown)
MVP (Raw)
Natalya (Raw)
Umaga (SmackDown)

Then in the supplemental draft I can see a diva going to SD to balance losing Natalya (Beth Phoenix maybe as they essentially have the same "strong woman" gimmick).
Some midcarders will probably just be shuffled about in the supplemental as well.

The only ones I'm completely confident of are Deuce and MVP. I'm also certain Carlito, Punk and Umaga will be switching shows, just not sure which one.</font>

Anybody Thrilla 06-23-2008 07:11 PM

Why can't you just watch it on TV, Hollywood?

Anybody Thrilla 06-23-2008 07:12 PM

Cherry to Raw would be MAJOR!!!!!!!!!!!111

Londoner 06-23-2008 07:12 PM

I'm sticking to my predictions in the fantasy draft thread.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-23-2008 07:13 PM

I hate Rupert Murdoch and refuse to give him money for Sky Sports?

#BROKEN Hasney 06-23-2008 07:13 PM

http://www.justin.tv/ringo_tv

It's apparantly gonna be on there, showing a re-run of Smackdown right now

Londoner 06-23-2008 07:14 PM

Oh i'm sure Murdoch really cares about your protest hasney.

ron the dial 06-23-2008 07:14 PM

hasney i know what to expect. my expectations are set very, very low.

<font color=goldenrod>Haha, yeah I took it off my list. Its still something I could randomly see happening in the supplemental draft though.

Edited my post like 7 times in 2 minutes. :o Fucking post kept submitting itself before I could finish.</font>

Anybody Thrilla 06-23-2008 07:19 PM

I wonder how Trevor Murdoch would feel.

Lol, didnt say you gave a shit, was just saying if you think your protesting will make a difference, think again. He's rich enough without your help. I don't like him either, but normal tv is shite.

Londoner 06-23-2008 07:20 PM

Anyway, only change illd make to my draft predictions is umaga getting sent to smackdown. Forgot about that one.

True, but Skys own made bollocks is worse. iPlayer for British TV, torrents for american shows and sopcast/pub for sports :D

#BROKEN Hasney 06-23-2008 07:22 PM

I reckon Umanga will be going extreme, myself.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-23-2008 07:23 PM

Holy shit, I make a Warrior jibe and I just found out he's wrestling this week.

Against Orlando Jordan....

KingofOldSchool 06-23-2008 07:25 PM

According to pwinsider both Rey Mysterio and DA UNDATAKAH are backstage.

Nah, i find a lot of interesting sports stuff to watch. ESPN classic is my favourite channel atm. there's a lot of crap though.

Mr. Nerfect 06-23-2008 07:27 PM

To RAW:

Batista (Televised)
CM Punk (Televised)
John Morrison (Televised)
MVP (Televised)
Elijah Burke (Televised)
Funaki (Damn it, I'm going with this: Televised)

Jamie Noble (Supplemental)
Kelly Kelly (Supplemental)
Justin Roberts (Supplemental)

To SmackDown!:

John Cena (Televised)
Randy Orton (Televised)
Chavo Guerrero (Televised)
The Miz (Televised)
Melina (Televised)
Stevie Richards (Televised, another sort of underwhelming move)

Val Venis (Supplementary)
Maria (Supplementary)
Lilian Garcia (Supplementary)

To ECW:

Jeff Hardy (Televised)
Umaga (Televised)
Rey Mysterio (Televised)
Jerry Lawler (Televised)
Carlito (Televised)
Mark Henry (Televised)

Ashley (Supplemental)
Super Crazy (Supplemental)

SammyG 06-23-2008 07:28 PM

Oh shit I forgot it starts early tonight.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-23-2008 07:28 PM

There's a private sports tracker that gets all the ESPN classic stuff about an hour after first air.

By own made stuff, I meant like Gladiators or Don't Forget The Lyrics, or their butchering of Terry Pratchets books.

Taker is banished from the entire WWE, though. Couldn't draft him and make much sense. Also, please nobody say anything about the WWE never making sense.

Vince: AND THE NEXT DRAFT PICK FOR RAW IS:.... The Undertaker?!? Who forgot to take his card out of the draw? Oh well, we have to honor it now!!

The WWE never follows through on stipulations.

Mr. Nerfect 06-23-2008 07:36 PM

OK, I'm going to make a few realistic adjustments: Jamie Noble goes to ECW, and not RAW. Paul London & Brian Kendrick are supplemented back to SmackDown!, Jerry Lawler is never moved, or is drafted and then supplemented back, just to get the supplementary draft numbers up. Also, The Great Khali goes to RAW, because the WWE loves moving him because he gets very boring anywhere very fast.

Heat's finished, and Charlie Haas pretty much is doing the Val Venis shtick on RAW. In fact, Val has been MIA recently. I think the WWE is either planning to repackage him and attempt another half-assed push, or will do the move.

Mr. Nerfect 06-23-2008 07:38 PM

Also, I can see the RAW main event scene (with some new additions) brawling at the end of the show when the lights go out, and then Taker appears and Chokeslams/Tombstones some bitches. No drafting, just a RAW re-hiring.

Sense the WWE, never makes.

Yoda to ECW to flip around with Evan Bourne.

Mr. Nerfect 06-23-2008 07:40 PM

Hey, it's on Sci-Fi.

Mr. Nerfect 06-23-2008 07:42 PM

Just once, I'd love to see the WWE's crappy "Superstar Advertisements" come back to bite them in the ass. "And the next draft pick is...King Leonidas to RAW?" *Cue 3-Way feud between Jerry Lawler, Leonidas and William Regal.

That one is also very likely. I could also see the WWE sending him to FCW as a trainer. Although, it would now be one word: PRODUCER!

Anybody Thrilla 06-23-2008 08:19 PM

It's usally the first thing they tell you on the show, which isn't really the best idea.

KingofOldSchool 06-23-2008 08:31 PM

I hope Vince gets another voicemail tonight.

FourFifty 06-23-2008 08:31 PM

Woah, Raw hasn't started yet and we're up to page two? Why?

Anybody Thrilla 06-23-2008 08:33 PM

Because there's a lot of speculation this week.

FourFifty 06-23-2008 08:35 PM

Can someone tell me how to do the spoiler buttons so I can end all speculation without spoiling the show?

FourFifty 06-23-2008 08:41 PM

SPOILER: show
Cena wins and we're going to bitch about it no matter what. CM Punk is over but everyone will say his chants are piped in, and The Great Khali was pretty good in Get Smart.

Innovator 06-23-2008 08:41 PM

put spoiler in brackets, then /spoiler at the end

Innovator 06-23-2008 08:42 PM

I'm a little saddened that people are still shocked at Cena winning (see: 2008 Royal Rumble).

ClockShot 06-23-2008 08:48 PM

Evening folks.

Got my predictions in one of the other threads on here.

I also see Vince bumped up the prize amounts. I'm wondering if this is drawing to a close.

thedamndest 06-23-2008 08:50 PM

How would you spend money from Mr. McMahon?

FourFifty 06-23-2008 08:57 PM

I want to see Mickie James go to SmackDown, mainly so we don't see two Women's titles on WWE tv. SmackDown is doing the whole "Diva championship" that no one seems to give a damn about, so with the women's champ on SmackDown then there would be no need for the "diva" title.

I would be on board with that. Mickie to SD.

NeanderCarl 06-23-2008 08:58 PM

With the "talent exchange" deal, is there any point drafting anyone from SmackDown to ECW, or vice versa... does the exchange deal even still exist? and will it become a Raw/ECW deal now that ECW is taped on Mondays??

Why does nobody tell me these things?
