Rey says show me the money, WWE says no.

Discuss. |
Provided all that is true, Rey has had a lot of injuries since being in the WWE. I don't know how much he's making, but if he's getting less money than someone like Snitsky, then he has every right to be upset. Rey probably makes a crap load of money off merchandise though. Is anyone ever happy in pro wrestling?

Rey sells as a much merch as Cena. He deserves what ever figure he's wanting. He's drawing money, pay him money.
|
Rey is entitle to the same percentage from Merch sales that Cena gets from selling his merch. But should Rey shouldn't be getting payed ppv percentages for not being in ppvs. I think that is fair. Plus whatever his contract minimum is.
|
Agreed.
|
I also believe that his base contract level, I believe that is what is being argued here, should probably be compariable to the other semi-maineventers, like Jericho..maybe a little less until Ray can stay healthy for longer than he is out. He should be getting paid like a maineventer because he isn't one. If he goes back to Mexico, I doubt he'll get the same merch sales he does in WWE.
|
Meh. I won't miss him if he goes.
|
he should go to tna n get killed by joe
|
I hope he ages drastically between the time we see him in WWE and TNA.
Then he can team up or feud with Hector and it'd be like he's teaming/feuding with Eddie again. |
I miss the mid-to-late-90's Rey.
|
A younger Rey would have been worth major money. Now he can't even do his "I'm jumping from underneath the stage" intro because of his knees. He's mainly seen as a luchador, which overshadows anything else he could do. If he can't use that lucha-style, then he's not worth more money.
Besides, the guy has a freaking waterslide in his backyard, and he wants more money? What the crap? |
Well, if he doesn't get more money, he'll have to trade in his waterslide for the model that's six inches shorter.
And that's like the equivalent of 10 feet to Rey. |
Xero: I was thinking the other day while watching iMPACT! that Hector looks frighteningly like Eddie. It was eerie. :shifty:
|
I swear, first time I saw him on TNA I thought it WAS Eddie.
|
Rey most certainly does suck. The lousy mexican.
|
This is from the wrestlescoop.com salaries. I guess they are from October 04 to February 06, and it's like an average of how much they made each year, merchandise, PPV bonuses and base salary included.
Batista: $813,000 Big Show: $1,000,000 (holy shit) Booker T: $375,000 Chris Benoit: $488,000 Eddie Guerrero: $372,000 Edge: $704,000 John Cena: $1,743,000 (good God) JBL: $786,000 Kane: $851,000 Kurt Angle: $1,023,000 Randy Orton: $711,000 Shawn Michaels: $1,045,000 Triple H: $2,013,000 (This can't be right...) Undertaker: $1,811,000 Rey Mysterio: $414,000 Rey was making around the same as Booker T and Eddie, which is about where I see him. I suppose, however, it is insulting that he's making less than Randy Orton. |
Don't know how accurate anything on the internet is regarding wrestling, but if that list is more or less true, then it's pretty sad how Benoit was making less than Randy Orton and JBL at that time.
|
On the flip side, it baffles me how much Kane was/is getting paid.
Also note how bigger guys are in the upper-tier of their pay bracket. |
Don't know how accurate that would be, but what really surprises me is how much Edge is getting. Keep in mind the time frame here: Edge only became a WWE Champion in January 2006, yet he was making more money than Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero and Booker T.
|
Quote:
Even before 2006 this guy put his ass on the line in TLC matches that people loved. I'm not shocked in any way, shape, or form that Edge was paid more than these guys. |
How much does Matt Hardy get paid?
|
$2.00 and catering.
|
Guess i can understand his frustration, but he's still got aload of money to live on, so somehow i have no sympathy.
|
I also assume they get paided everytime they are on the cover of WWE Magazine, and the kid zine. If that is true, Rey has to be making a ton from the Kid Zine.
|
I kinda agree with both parties here. If Rey sells a lot of merchandise then maybe he should be entitled to a bit more money. On the other hand, WWE is totally right when they say he is injury prone.
I like Rey, but if he were to leave to go to AAA it probably wouldn't bother me too much. If those salary figures are accurate, then Rey is still on good money. Hell he should try and become a Pro Wrestler here in the UK, then see how much he complains about his WWE wages. |
Quote:
....I just thought about Nigel McGuiness killing Rey with the Tower of London, or a sick rebound lariat. It made me happy. |
I think you have to be working 200 dates a year before you can start demanding top teir wages. That's before you consider the fact that its Rey.
He would probably be more successful trying to negotiate a better merchandise percentage and not even think of insulting the WWE by asking for more money to sit at home and feel sore. |
He just moved to raw, he should concentrate on that for now. Or has moving him to raw made his ego so fucking big now?
|
He sells a lot of merch, so he's entitled to whatever he gets from those sales. But he's barely on TV because he gets hurt every six months. He shouldn't demand more money if he's been sitting at home since February (or whenever he got hurt). Plus, he's awful and he doesn't deserve to be on RAW. I wouldn't miss him if he left.
|
2 random things that spring to mind.
1) Lol, 450 won Reys pay rise. 2) Did Big-Show steal HBM's smile? |

We established in the past that the lists with wrestlers' salaries are very false.

Well, there's no way to prove or disprove the notion that they are completely fake, or even close to the actual numbers these people make.
If it isn't fake though, the situation in the "news piece" at the beginning of this thread does seem to go along with the numbers presented by Wrestlescoop. |

WWE making a giant mistake,
The truth is easy to see here if you take off the "goggles of prejudice", as it seems clear that a lot of people are not looking at Rey Mysterio straight up!
I have a few points to make that illustrate why WWE is making a huge mistake here in risking to lose Rey Mysterio and why they should keep him. Lets face the facts, Rey Mysterio is unique or as Rob Van Damn would say, "One Of A Kind ;) " and WWE seems stubborn to not admit this fact. I bet they want to replace him with someone they can pay a lot less to but the fact is here and the fact is that Rey Mysterio is irreplaceable. I remember and some of you may too, when WWE tried to bring in a Rey Mysterio clone a few years back. His name was The Ultimate Dragon and he wrestled a very similar way to Rey Mysterio even using some of the same moves. However, this japanese rip off didn't last long because the fans saw through what the WWE was trying to pull off and the guy didnt get the reaction that Rey does, not even close. Guess why? Because he's not close to what Rey Mysterio is. Rey is an innovator in the ring and a charismatic wrestling machine that pulls in thousands if not millions of fans! Some of you make fun of him but the truth is the truth and when you go to a WWE show, besides John Cena and Batista, chances are, the guy getting the third or second best reaction on the show is going to be Rey Mysterio! To those of you who are making fun of his injuries and damages he has are obviously not real wrestling fans. You know WHY he has all these injuries? Do you know why he is hurt so much? Because when Rey Mysterio goes out there to put on a show, he puts it ALL OUT. He leaves no limitations, he doesnt hold back and he does sick moves that other wrestlers may be too scared to try to do. He sacrifices all of this not for himself but for the FANS! Rey was injured so much in the past few years because he has been sacrificing himself for your entertainment. Unlike a lot of wrestlers, Rey goes out there and puts on the best show he can and he destroys his body in the process for you. Real fans appreciate this and know this because this is what it is. Rey has a special pulling of fans that not a lot of other guys could do. He one handedly revitalized WWE's cruiserweight division! Remember, when he came in, WWE had a light weight division which sucked for the most part and then Rey came in and he was like nothing no one saw before and revolutionized the division and gave it popularity that it enjoyed up until the time WWE decided to put it on a break. Guess what, a lot of the cruisereight champions after Rey were only popular because Rey set the standard and they were still getting a rub of him! Its as simple as THAT! So with all the sacrifices Rey Mysterio has put on the table and the fact that he is irreplaceable and a true class act and a man that has helped improve the WWE and the wrestling business on the whole, I think it is insult, not just to Rey, but to the entire WRESTLING WORLD that WWE holds him up on his contract. They should give him what he deserves and thats a top of the line contract. They are making a mistake if they don't. I guess they think they can find some other Rey rip off to bring in. Guess again WWE! |
Quote:
YOu have no idea what you're talking about. Ultimo doesn't wrestle like Rey at all. First off Ultimo came first so if anyone wrestles like anyone it would be the other way around, and secondly there styles aren't similare in any way. |
You lost me at "Ultimate Dragon" being a Rey Mysterio rip-off to the point where I am pretty sure this post is farce.
|
Funky is going to get mad...all this bad mouthing of Ulitmo Dragon and all.
|
Or maybe the WWE brought in a "Ultimate Dragon" and I missed it? Is this some other guy?
|
Cause there's no way you could have seen Ultimo and say these things...
|
Quote:
|
Also, I'm not sure how a guy that debuted 2 years before Rey is a rip off of Rey.
|
Quote:
|
Its true, I say what I see, and what I saw was that Ultimate Dragon was very similar to Mysterio's style and even his apperance was similar with his mask.
It was pretty clear WWE was looking to duplicate Rey Mysterio there but clearly it didn't work and it won't work now if they try. |

Oh I get it, they both do hurricanranas! I see now!
|
Sorry, La Parka. Looks like you will NEVER work for the WWE. Conversely, the only reason Juvi had a job is because he was de-masked.
|
To get back to the point, the WWE shouldn't let him go because he probably is a good merch mover for the kids. In terms of what he will draw ratings wise on Raw, that remains to be seen, hopefully they freshen him up somehow. There are probably oodles of better masked wrestlers out there that would love to have Rey's job, but the reason they don't is because they aren't named Rey Mysterio.
|
THIS IS MAKE IT OR BREAK IT FOR ULTIMATE DRAGON
|
Is sebastian vermaat?
|
He has to be. There can't be two people on this earth like that.
|
So, let me get this straight, WWE brought in Ultimo Dragon because they wanted Rey Mysterio, not Ultimo Dragon?
|
Ultimo Dragon vs Ultimate Dragon:

It's like Undertaker vs. Undertaker cruiserweight style.

It is easy to understand the psychology of some of you. You realize that you cant hang with the fact that are on my side so you instead be little me and make fun of me to make my points sound less valid, well guess what, that doesnt mean your points are any more valid then mine because they arent get real and adress the points I am making. Back to the topic at hand, WWE is being silly to not give Rey what he deserves, I realize the economy is poor, but Rey deserves his salary WAY more then someone like Randy Orton! |
You don't ask me for my point when the point is there you stupid jackass, why don't you go fuck yourself

Ah, yes, the old Vermaat "facts" line.
Please have your name changed back. Your other name was so much more mysterious. |

Seriously you going on about Rey being some innovator in the ring is very laughable and only shows how little your exposure to Lucha is. Rey's in ring stlye is a dime a dozen. The only thing Rey has innovated is how to disguise using the same match structure a 1,000 times and having no one catch on. What sets Rey apart is his charisma and nothing else. |

In short, that whole post was rubbish. |
Quote:
"Fact" was a perfect typo. The only fact you have on your side is WWE's interest in Ultimo being based on their desire for another Rey Mysterio. The problem there is that it doesn't back up your notion that they are similar. Quite to the contrary, he was then let go primarily because he wasn't similar. Vince doesn't pay attention to shit like that, and he probably doesn't know the differing styles out there very well. You know, since his only real understanding of wrestling seems to come down to "Hoss" or "Midget." Interesting hearing talk about psychology from someone who is showing none, who is almost certainly a sock, and who tries to insist the mountain of flaws in his "logic" amount to some sort of iron clad case. |

Sebastian, you are so close to getting banned right now... you don't even know kid.
NO ONE disses Ultimo Dragon here. |
Damn, man let the beast out
|
Quote:
As an Ultimo Mark, I can assume you've seen a lot of his work. Yes? K. How similar are their styles? Cause thats really the only thing that gets me about this whole thing. It's like he doesn't understand what a style is. AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy do not have simialr style. Just because they both fly doesn't mean they work the same stlye, and I think that's where he coming from. Which is ludicris, but please: in your opinion do they have similar styles and why/or why not. |
I love how everyone is disagreeing with him but somehow we are all still wrong.
|
Quote:
No, but seriously, here's one way I can tell them apart. Ultimo is awesome. Rey is flashy. |
Mistico > Rey at his peak > Rey now
They should drop him, get on their hands and knees for Mistico, and by the end of the week all the kiddies will buy Mistico's mask, and no one will remember Rey as anything more than a decent lucha who by virtue of his small stature even by lucha size and charisma happened to get a push by WWE. |
Ultimo Dragon does kind of look like Rey Mysterio.
I mean they're both cruiserweights of non-white or black nationality, both wear colorful masks and tights, and both CAN fly. I can see the WWE wanting to bring him into the company in light of Rey Mysterio's success, sure.... but I can also see them wanting to bring him in based on his illustrious career and reputation as a great wrestler. And the latter seems more realistic. |
Also, Rey Mysterio should go to TNA. I wouldn't mind seeing him mix it up with some of the young guys over there, and maybe he can teach them a thing or two.
|
Quote:
Rey has a pretty standard luchadore moveset, plus a few leg kicks here and there. His appeal is that he is a colourful little guy that kids can relate to because he beats up bigger guys. Someone tell me I'm wrong. |
Quote:
Nah, not really. And that's the thing. Dragon works awesome matches and wrestles in a style where he doesn't need to throw in 9000000 top rope moves to keep a match interesting. I doubt I'm even close to the biggest Dragon fan on the board, but I do very much enjoy him. Then again, the criticism of him comes from a guy who won't vote for "a nigger," so it could very well be the fact that they're both non-white foreigners in masks that made him draw the conclusion. |
How much do these wrestlers make in merchandise sales and whatnot?
If those numbers already posted are relative ballpark estimates as to how much the top guys make, a six figure/low seven figure salary really isn't that much compared to athletes in other sports, or even to other entertainers. Even some of the mid card guys in the WWE are more well known than most of the top players in the NFL. Surely many of these wrestlers make more money off of action figure sales? |
Mysterio generally makes 1.7 million a year on merch.
|
edit: nevermind
I don't care for Ray |
