Exactly. To be honest, rarely does the best team in the regular season actually go on to win the whole thing. Hell, it doesn't matter if you make the playoffs with a 7-9 record, as long as you win the Super Bowl then it doesn't fucking matter.

SammyG 08-05-2008 04:32 PM

I don't mind playing the AFC east, Rams can go 3-1 against that, but playing the NFC East is gonna suck ass.

NFL Clubs Implement Fan Code Of Conduct Policy

NewOrleansSaints.com,
Tuesday, August 05, 2008 - 2:24 PM

The NFL and all 32 NFL clubs have created a fan code of conduct to help promote a positive fan environment at NFL stadiums, it was announced today.

The fan code of conduct is designed to set clear expectations and encourage a stadium environment that is enjoyable for all fans. Teams may add additional provisions to the standard code based on local circumstances or preferences. Each team will communicate its code of conduct during the preseason to season-ticket holders and fans through mailings, online, and in-stadium signage, and other messages.

“The in-stadium experience is critically important to the NFL, our clubs and our fans and it will be a major focus this season,” said NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL. “We are committed to improving the fan experience in every way we can -- from the time fans arrive in the parking lot to when they depart the stadium. We want everyone to be able to come to our stadiums and enjoy the entire day.”

The code of conduct is intended to address behavior that detracts from the gameday experience. Any fan in violation of these provisions will be subject to ejection without refund and loss of ticket privileges for future games.

In addition to the fan code of conduct, the NFL and its clubs will evaluate fan feedback and existing programs to ensure their effectiveness and shape the development of new programs.

These measures are designed to build on the many outstanding programs already in place at NFL stadiums to enhance the fan experience.

FAN CODE OF CONDUCT

“The National Football League and its teams are committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for all fans, both in the stadium and in the parking lot. We want all fans attending our games to enjoy the experience in a responsible fashion. When attending a game, you are required to refrain from the following behaviors:

· Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal in nature

· Intoxication or other signs of alcohol impairment that results in irresponsible behavior

· Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures

· Interference with the progress of the game (including throwing objects onto the field)

· Failing to follow instructions of stadium personnel

· Verbal or physical harassment of opposing team fans

“Event patrons are responsible for their conduct as well as the conduct of their guests and/or persons occupying their seats. Stadium staff will promptly intervene to support an environment where event patrons, their guests, and other fans can enjoy the event free from the above behavior. Event patrons and guests who violate these provisions will be subject to ejection without refund and loss of ticket privileges for future games.”
lol

:(

<font color=goldenrod>Exactly.

It feels weird...you would think that after winning the SB my expectations would be high, but they aren't. Last year, I was expecting them to at LEAST get past the Wild Card round of the playoffs and it would be a good year. This year...I'd probably only be pissed off if they missed the playoffs altogether. It's like being responsible for one of the best comebacks and upsets ever has actually LOWERED my expectations, and I'm not sure why.</font> :o

Gonzo 08-06-2008 11:41 PM

My hopes are high for a strong showing in 2008. I would be extremely pissed off if the Giants missed the playoffs this year. I think that 2007's results are as good as you can hope for. The only way to repeat them would be to in fact, repeat.

Evil Vito 08-07-2008 12:45 AM

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah, that might be what it was. In 2007, I knew that they had to make the playoffs and win at least one game there after back-to-back first round losses, or else Coughlin was toast.

This year, Coughlin isn't toast under any circumstances...and I'd only think its a bad year if they don't make the playoffs. A first round exit wouldn't even bother me so much (as long as it's not a slaughter like against the Panthers 2 years ago)...obviously I'd love to see them go deeper, but yeah. Hard to grill the team after last year.</font>

Favre era ends in Green Bay with trade to Jets
<hr size="1" width="100%" noshade="noshade"> ESPN.com news services

The Brett Favre era in Green Bay apparently came to an end late Wednesday as the longtime Packers star quarterback was traded to the New York Jets, Foxsports.com first reported. The compensation, believed to be a single draft pick that rises in value depending upon how the Jets perform during the 2008 season, was confirmed by ESPN's Michael Smith on Wednesday night. The Jets declined to comment on the report. Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, confirmed in an e-mail to The Associated Press earlier Wednesday that the Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were emerging as the most likely trade destinations for the three-time MVP. Packers general manager Ted Thompson skipped practice Wednesday morning, and his scheduled early afternoon media availability was postponed indefinitely -- signs that a deal could be in the works. Thompson also was not seen at Wednesday night's practice, although team president and CEO Mark Murphy made an appearance. Favre was on a private plane that left for Hattiesburg, Miss. at 1:25 p.m. EDT Cook and Favre's wife, Deanna, also were aboard the plane that landed two hours later. Favre's family home is near Hattiesburg. In Mississippi, Favre confirmed that he was considering the Jets and Buccaneers. "We're working on it," Favre said in video posted on Jackson TV station WJTV's Web site. "Hopefully we can get something resolved. I've been saying that for quite a while now. I don't want to say we're running out of time, but I need to get into a camp somewhere." Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden refused to address speculation that the team was on the verge of a deal for Favre, sidestepping a question about whether he had spoken to Favre Tuesday night. "I'm not going to talk about it," Gruden said. "I don't know anything other than what happened today on the practice field, and I don't want to address any more speculation at this point. Brett's situation will resolve itself during the coming days I would assume. But at this point and time, all I can comment on is our football team and what we did today." Gruden acknowledged that he's always willing to explore ways to improve his team. "We are a good football team," Gruden said. "We're trying to become a great one. We'll do anything we can to get better. And if that involves looking at other players, by George that's our job. That's our responsibility." Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to Favre again Tuesday night, but there was no indication that their conversation did anything to change the fractured relationship between Favre and the franchise. "It was just very general," McCarthy said of the conversation with Favre, who was excused from practice Wednesday. "Just how he was doing, where he was with the process, things like that." McCarthy said he was happy the rest of his players were getting a chance to move forward. "We talked about it last night," McCarthy said. "The players want resolution, they want what everybody wants. To come out here every day and talk about somebody that is not here and then shows up, it's gone on too long, and understandably so. They want to play football." Packers players vented frustration over the Favre situation Tuesday, after fans chanting "Bring Back Brett!" turned practice into a zoo-like atmosphere and reporters continued asking questions about Favre instead of football. After McCarthy made it clear Tuesday that Favre's football future wouldn't be in Green Bay, players seemed to have some sense of closure. "It was just important to get things moving," Packers tackle Mark Tauscher said. "Obviously, there's no closure as of yet, but I think we've kind of been told what's going on and I think we all kind of know where everything stands." Packers cornerback Charles Woodson -- who said Tuesday that the saga had "gone on long enough" -- said Wednesday that the Packers' front office gave players the answers they needed. "From what I understand, for the most part it's taken care of," Woodson said. "Now it's just about the Packers and not about the situation. It's over now. From what I understand, it's pretty much over." And if the Packers end up playing against Favre in Tampa on Sept. 28? "Once you're on another team, you're on another team," Woodson said. "I think for the most part the locker room would have liked to see him back here. But like I say, once you're on another team ..." The final split between the Packers and Favre became obvious Tuesday night. McCarthy told reporters that after extensive conversations with Favre over two days, he had determined that Favre doesn't have the right mind-set to play for the Packers. After approximately six hours of what McCarthy called "brutally honest" conversations with Favre, McCarthy said Favre couldn't seem to get past emotional wounds that were opened as tensions mounted in recent weeks -- even with the chance to win his starting job back potentially on the table. "The train has left the station, whatever analogy you want," McCarthy said Tuesday. "He needs to jump on the train and let's go. Or, if we can't get past things that have happened, I have to keep the train moving." Favre left Lambeau Field just before Packers practice Tuesday afternoon. "We're at a stalemate," Favre told ESPN Tuesday morning. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

D Mac 08-07-2008 02:14 AM

John Clayton from ESPN:
Quote:

This trade is a thumbs down for the Hall of Fame quarterback.

Jets fans have to be excited because they no longer have to worry about Chad Pennington's weak arm or the inconsistencies of the developing Kellen Clemens. Favre brings to New York the potential of a 4,000-yard season as a passer who can hit better than 63 percent of his throws.

But if his heart wasn't into competing against Aaron Rodgers for the starting job in Green Bay, how is Favre going to be playing second fiddle to Brady in the AFC East? Mike McCarthy had it right Tuesday. He said Favre was in a tough place.

To come out of retirement and have only hopes of a wild-card berth has to be disappointing to Favre. True, he tested the will of the Packers' organization and lost. He thought he was big enough to get his release. He wasn't. He thought he could force a trade to the Vikings. He couldn.'t.

Tired and mentally exhausted from his Green Bay visit, he agreed to listen to going to Tampa Bay or the Jets. He preferred the Vikings. The Packers said no and traded him out of the conference.

The Packers beat down their icon. They've moved on to Rodgers. Favre only agreed to the trade because he knew it was time to get in camp and train for the regular season.

Going to the Jets is certainly a downer for him.

D Mac 08-07-2008 02:15 AM

= 10-6 seems real likely I think, considering they could also win a couple of the games I put as an L

and I thought I wore patriot blinders... wanna bet on 10-6?

I can't wait to see if the over/under for the season goes up and take the under.

Let's be real here guys... he's a 38 going to be 39 during the season year old gun slinger.

yeah, he had a decent year last year.. but look at 2006 and 2005.

He's never had to learn a "new system" since he was traded from Atlanta.

He's never had to learn a whole new set of personel.

What type of shape is he in?

and it's not like this is Feb or March... the season is a month away.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's a bum and he's should be an upgrade on Pennington, but a little reality check.

Dunno, I just think the downside for the Jets is bigger then the upside... although at a worst case of a 3rd round pick isn't a horrible gamble..

and Ferguson is going to have to step it up big time... Mangold has been a beast since being drafted but Ferguson hasn't lived up to the hype and if they start spining Favre blind side blocker like a top they're in big trouble.

the contract has a clause that if the Jets deal him to Minessota they owe the Packers 3 first round picks..

So, the Vikes just need another Hershal Walker deal... send 5 #1's to the Jets and the Jets send 3 to GB and pick up 2 1st round picks for nothing!
