WWE doesn't like Triple H to look weak...

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

-- This past week, there was some major heat between WWE and Fighting Spirit, a magazine based out of the U.K. that covers professional wrestling as well as MMA.

In the latest issue, the magazine printed a memo sent out by WWE to members of the video gaming press covering the upcoming SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 video game. WWE wants to control how the game is portrayed in previews.

WWE told the video game press that they could not show any screenshots of the Superstars bleeding or using weapons. Additionally, WWE said in their memo that they aren't allowed to show screenshots of digital Triple H "in a defenseless or vulnerable position."

WWE was said to be furious that the memo was published (I get the magazine, so I'll post the memo in its entirety as soon as I get my copy).

Additionally, Fighting Spirit defied order by posting a screenshot of Kane hovering over a vulnerable Triple H.

Juan 09-19-2008 10:53 PM

LOL WWE can be so ridiculous bout these things

What Would Kevin Do? 09-19-2008 10:53 PM

LOL. Next year they'll just make the developers make that a feature of the game. Triple H can't lose... ever.

Kane Knight 09-19-2008 10:55 PM

Gotta love them carnies.

The Naitch 09-19-2008 11:07 PM

Triple H is the most insecure WWE Superstar in the history of WWE

DON'T WANNA LOOK TOO WEAK ON VIDEOGAMES NOW DO WE?

Sad

Lock Jaw 09-19-2008 11:25 PM

Uhhh... yeah! This is stupid.

TerranRich 09-20-2008 12:40 AM

For a company that basically killed kayfabe 2-3 years ago, this is downright ridiculous.

No its not Terran, this is WWE :p

U-Warrior 09-20-2008 01:54 AM

This makes me really really angry. How fucking stupid does WWE think their fans are?

It's honestly kind of insulting.

I see what you mean, but the fact they don't want to show blood or wrestlers with weapons makes me believe that this video games is aimed at children.

El Fangel 09-20-2008 02:16 AM

Triple H IS weak, he's on Smackdown

The MAC 09-20-2008 04:22 AM

fuck em, post pics of HHH getting beat up by a diva.Do a review featuring pics of HHH looking as pathetic as possible.

Headlocked 09-20-2008 04:29 AM

This seems almost too absurd to be true....but sadly par for the course these days.

Seems like asking something like this is almost bound to make someone do the opposite.

GD 09-20-2008 04:50 AM

After all he is banging with the boss's daughter.

Lux 09-20-2008 04:59 AM

That means he's got mad street cred.

So sleeping with some "bottom feeding trash-bag ho" gets you street cred?!!!

Sweet Deal

TerranRich 09-20-2008 05:40 AM

You know what? It's damn near impossible to find a picture of Triple H getting his ass kicked. Damn HHH fanboys posting victorious pics of him only.

El Fangel 09-20-2008 05:43 AM

You all want to see something funny, type "Triple H Hurt" into a Google Image search.

GD 09-20-2008 06:21 AM

Couldn't fine any.

GD 09-20-2008 06:24 AM

But I found this when I typed "Triple-H laugh".

El Fangel 09-20-2008 06:57 AM

They wont accept my credit card those filthy whores.

Lux 09-20-2008 06:58 AM

I didnt think your mom would max it out that fast.

Blue Demon 09-21-2008 04:32 PM

Trips doesn't even want to job in video games

TerranRich 09-21-2008 07:22 PM

I can imagine Triple H playing Smackdown Vs RAW with another wrestler, and upon losing, he complains to Vince that he's being held down.

Vince then breaks down and orders a Code Breaker (the cheat DVD, not the finishing move).

Is anybody else just getting sick and tired of jokes like this?

Shadow 09-21-2008 09:31 PM

No.

Fabien Barthez 09-21-2008 11:33 PM

It's not funny.

But I don't particulally care.

Just from a good business point of view. Why would you not add The Undertaker to that request? Taker's character requires him to look dominant, as reflected by the way he is booked.

Kane Knight 09-22-2008 12:18 AM

Ego.

Taker's is big, Trips' is bigger.

Fox 09-22-2008 07:10 AM

I don't see this as that big of a deal. Triple H is like there #1 guy right now, so they probably have all sorts of stupid ass rules in place to "protect him." It's hard to find pictures of The Rock and Stone Cold beaten down or in weak positions too, and in the old days of WrestleMania 2000 and No Mercy 64, the commercials always featured those guys in superior positions.

The Mackem 09-22-2008 07:43 AM

Could you imagine any other companies with video games demanding something similar?

Afterlife 09-22-2008 07:51 AM

Yes.

No, but there aren't many companies out there like the WWE.

They can market the hell out of anyone they want and make them look strong all the time, no problem. A REAL sport you have that chance that the guy you built up to be "the man" could fall short, lose, choke and make himself look bad.

Actually, I can. Pretty easily. Though I doubt they'd get away with it, either.

The Mackem 09-22-2008 10:19 AM

I would kinda expect the Triple H line, the weapons and blood line though? Is someone busy suing the WWE?

Yeah, but it's HHH, so of course everyone is going to dive on it.

Or, and this could be detrimental to your conspiracy theory, it's because an official memo DEMANDING that a THIRD PARTY do something specific (We're not talking commercials, really), which didn't happen with No Mercy or any other game prior to this....

By extension, nobody complained about Triple H in superior positions in previous ads/shots, though he usually is.

Sorry to rain on your man-crush.

Sepholio 09-22-2008 01:26 PM

First thing I will do when I get this game is beat Triple H into a bloody pulp with someone like Evan Bourne and post pictures of it all over the internetz.

TerranRich 09-22-2008 04:00 PM

Here's to hoping Seph's idea will become a meme here on TPWW. :y:

Especially if it involves THE Brian Kendrick having his way with Trips.

Dorkchop 09-22-2008 05:57 PM

Someone should make a Youtube account and only upload videos of HHH "in a defenseless or vulnerable position" from Smackdown 09

Heyman 09-22-2008 06:00 PM

Why is Triple H to blame here?

Here's my question:

Why is almost everyone trashing HHH in this thread? It was the WWE's decision to NOT make HHH look weak.....how is this HHH's fault? Should he have disagreed with the WWE and said, "No Vince....I don't mind looking weak! Don't change a thing!"

Lastly - IF the WWE is pushing HHH as their top star (which is a whole different debate altogether), then I agree with the WWE's logic to *not* make HHH look vulnerable in certain screenshots, etc.

BigDaddyCool 09-22-2008 06:08 PM

But HHH and WWE are evil Heyman, don't you get it?

:D.

Well...to be honest, I *do* think HHH is evil (albeit a very hard working and very well deserving evil individual). However - the WWE (management) for the most part, is just stupid.

Given how much the McMahon's and management cater to HHH, perhaps HHH would be stupid to *not* take advantage. :?:

Yeah, I don't know why WWE weould put that kind of faith and investment in the guy who's least likely to screw them over or walk out on them.

Wow...That's some nice assumption. It's a shame it defies reason, and it's a shame that with Trips' tendency to set policy, it looks like you pulled more from your ass than Richard Gere.

I don't know. Cena tends to be their number one star these days, and I've seen shots of him in magazines and TV spots which put him in a "vulnerable or defenseless position." He's not the number one guy at this specific moment, but that doesn't change the fact. Similarly, you've never seen such an ultimatum delivered for other "top" characters.

Oh, and for the record, I went and looked at old previews for Smackdown: Know Your Role. I found several shots of the Rock in a "vulnerable or defenseless" position, alright. The Rock getting rdropped. The Rock flat on his back. The Rock Getting pinned. Stone Cold and the Rock putting each other's asses on the mats. Stone Cold taking the Rock Bottom, a back breaker, and getting punched the fuck out.

Indeed, looking at other game previews and reviews, it doesn't look like any other wrestlers are protected, even the top guys.

Afterlife 09-23-2008 03:13 AM

And really, I don't even see that as a "protection". Any exposure at all, for a video game, should be good exposure.

Few things:

1) You talk about assumptions....when you guys make assumptions yourself (i.e. HHH...not the WWE....has requested that HHH not look weak). Perhaps times have changed? Perhaps the WWE no longer wants its top stars to be depicted in a certain light? Who knows what the real story is. Perhaps I was rash in my assumption by implying that HHH had "nothing to do with it", but how are you guys being any different? (i.e. blaming HHH).

2) I'm not arguing that Cena isn't the company's biggest star. However - at current...Triple H is the world champ...and at current, the WWE are pushing him as the company's top star. You know, perhaps more than anyone, how much the WWE wants the fans to see HHH as a god-like figure.
