Star Trek XI
Not sure if there has been a thread on this yet. The new Star Trek trailer's attached with Quantum of Solace. Has anyone gotten a look at it yet? I'm dying to see it but I'm really not pumped for the new bond and don't feel like spending $10 to see it.

Wouldn't call it 'XI'.
|
Eric Bana
|
Dunno, the idea of any of the original ST crew being played by other actors still frightens me immensely tbh, but I will absolutely go and watch it regardless of what reviews it gets.
|
I'm excited for it, but it got pushed back from Christmas to May because they felt more people would want to watch it in the summer. :-\
|
Sylar looks like an amazing Spock.
|
Also, as a fan of all things Trek, I am really psyched about this. I am looking forward to seeing how classic Trek scrubs up with modern CGI and sets and story-telling and all that craziness. Got big hopes for it.
Probably gonna be hugely disappointed though. |

Yeah, there was a thread on this. Also, is Kirk dressed up like a scene Kiddie in that still of the bridge crew, or what?
|
Apparently it's an alternate command shirt. He still wears the Yellow so I've heard.
|
Just looks like normal black clothing to me.
I saw the trailer. I've never been big on Trek, but this looks really interesting. The approach to the story seems really interesting, and fresh. The style, which I hear will be more modern and adventurous/action packed and likely more epic in scale, is a great move. The cast and everything looks great. The only thing that looks lame from the trailer, and I could be wrong, but visually it seems to look too bright and crispy. Like the mix between a Michael Bay movie and a show from the sci fi channel. Like too polished and fake looking almost. Just doesn't seem appropriate for the material and even from a short trailer looks a bit jarring. Also, I thought John Cho or whatever his name is from Harold and Kumar was a good choice, but when I saw him in action I just couldn't take it seriously. Seems really interesting though, and thats coming from someone who doesn't have much interest in the franchise. Def gonna see it. Has the potential to be really good. |
I suppose it's obvious that I saw the trailer last night btw, although I didn't preface my statement with it.
|
Holy shit.

Okay, that was better the second time.
|
ahfsagfsha that looks awesome :'(
|
One thing that threw me off when it first started is I was like 'what the fuck is this', it looked like a new fast and the furious movie until he said "James T Kirk"
Probably why it seemed a bit off to me the first time. It def looks good. Star Trek, to me, always had a good premise but I just couldn't get into it as a youth due to the lack of excitement and action, and the lack of operatic storytelling. I was a Star Wars lad. Fortunately, JJ Abrams was too and said he has aimed to take Star Trek as a premise and make the new films like Star Wars films. I think that's great and it looks to be the right move. |
I think it looks great. I've been a Trek fan my entire life. However, there is one thing that scares me. It has to have an underlying moral issue, a good Right vs. Wrong plot or it's just sci-fi. Trek ALWAYS has to have that. It's what makes it different.
|
I'm sure it will
|
The later Trek series had far more action than the earlier stuff. The Dominion War during DS9 is one of my favourite sci-fi story arcs EVAR.
But this looks great  |
The only Trek movies I liked, that I've seen, are Wrath of Khan and First Contact (I think it was)
I watched the one with the whales when I was high once and it was pretty rofl |
Ok looks pretty good
|
I'm really more excited about this than any of the major releases next summer.
Even as a non-fan. Transformers 2 will hopefully be fun, but lightning probably won't strike twice. Wolverine looks like shit Another Terminator movie, without Arnold, directed by McG? Not really pumped for that. This is probably the most interesting looking, and competently helmed adventure of the season. I'm really looking forward to Apatow's next movie Funny People and Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, which come out next summer, but those are hardly action-adventure blockbusters. So by default this takes the cake. |
Completely forgot about Inglorious Bastards

They've turned Kirk into an emofagsceneboytranny:(

lol it has a sex scene
|
Super unimpressed by that trailer. Looks like total ass.
|
spock looks great though.
|
Anyone got that picture of the bridge crew? It's not showing up for me here on TPWW or on photobucket. My Dad's a huge Star Trek fan and I wanted to send him the shot, but the only one that's showing up for me is Quinto as Spock.
|
So is this a reboot, or a prequel?
Or does it double as both? |
This is my kind of movie. I grew up with Star Trek.

I think this is a movie that will divide people down the middle, love it or hate it, no middle ground.
I for one as a Star Trek fan am looking foward to seeing it. |
The hardcore nerd in me is still screaming over the fact that they've apparently gotten rid of Captain Pike (who was captain of the Enterprise before Kirk), but looking at it just as a non-canon big exciting space adventure, I'm looking forward to it.

Christopher Pike's doing the voice over during the opening part of the trailer with Kirk.

Never really been a big time fan.

I'm sure they'll make plenty of changes. I don't know. Most of what I know about Trek comes from my parents anyway. It's not that I don't like Sci Fi, but I've been more of the B5/Farscape/Stargate Type. The movie looks like it could be cool, though. I've always liked mostof the Trek ship designs, too.
I liked the movies more than the original series, though. Or TNG, for that matter. |

As far as I'm aware they haven't followed through on it, since that would completely remove the entire tragic/character-defining duality of Spock's nature, but I'm nonetheless wary about what they're gonna do to my (and arguably, everyone's) favourite Vulcan. (although Tuvok is a close second </>) |
His Mom's still human. And judging from the trailer, they're focusing on that quite a bit. However Kirk's storyline is completely new, so that's where they've got me nervous.
|
Oh, thank God for that. It wouldn't make any sense for Spock to be full Vulcan; it destroys what makes him awesome.
Kirk I'm a little worried about, honestly. I hope they don't ignore the Tarsus IV massacres (even if you don't see them a reference would be nice) and the fact that he wasn't on Earth again until just before he joined Starfleet. Plus, if these are indeed the Academy days, what of people like Mallory, Finnegan, and Ben Finney and Gary Mitchell? The Kobiyashi Maru incident? Remnants of the "old" story? Or characters and events that'll make an appearance in new Kirk's time at the Academy? I won't mind so much if they retcon it so that Pike never captained the Enterprise specifically and is just an Academy mentor or another ship's captain or what have you. That still works for me. I am just glad he is in there. But there is significant time spent in TOS discussing Kirk's Academy days, so if they do not fan service at least a couple of those events, I am gonna be a little upset. Not "I won't ever watch this movie again" upset, but a part of me will be a little disappointed. |
I'm not in on all the specifics, however I do know that they do address the Kobiyashi Maru, either talking about it or it happening in the movie. Which I would love. I also know Kirk takes over for Pike, so Pike does command the Enterprise in the movie. He's the one that yells out "Fire all weapons" in the trailer.
So, at least two good things confirmed. :y: |
Sweet. Yes. This is sounding better the more I hear.
|

That's pretty much all the information there is derived from the trailer. |
Are they gunna have a scene where Kirk and Scottie and Sulu are kids and Kirk and Scottie wanna go play football, but Sulu wants to go play hop scotch?

Updated, includes old Spock. |
When I found out Simon Pegg was Scotty, I was like 'what's going on here' in a this might be very strange but funny kinda way.
|
This film can't be worse than Nemesis, which Film4 always seems to be showing. Show First Contact for fucksake.
|
Man, Nimoy did not age well. I mean, Shatner got all doughy, sure, but Leonard looks like a freaking skeleton.
|
Im sure it will be a cool movie. But if your a trek geek who wants everything to stand by cannon then you probably be a bit pissed of by it!
I get the feeling its going to get the same after treatment as 'kingdom of the crystal skull' though. |

Resisting temptation to squeal like a little girl...
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD...THAT LOOKS AMAZING. |
That looks pretty bad ass to me. I got a bit of a shiver whilst watching it. :shifty:
Therefore it will probably suck. Though, it can't be worse than the last couple of Star Trek films. |
|
That looks awesome. As a jaded Trekkie (largely due to Insurrection), this trailer has totally restored my hopes for the franchise.
|
Looks like they have the old Original Series uniforms. cool.
|
Trailer looked pretty awesome atthe theaters last night. A bit thrown togerther and not completely understood, but yeah.
Terminator trailer looked really good. Really good. |
That trailer looks absolutely brilliant, I can't wait for this to come out now.
The music is awesomely epic as well - shame it's turned out to be trailer music rather than music from the film itself. :( |
In the trailer it looks like Kirk takes over for Pike. he sits in the captain's chair and assumes leadership. I have never been a Star Trek fan. I always thought it was way too nerdy and the series always bored me. I did like Worf though, which won't be in this on because that's Next Generation. My friend John is really into it so I know characters from him. Zachary Quinto looks dead on as Spock though. I might check this out, though it is Star Trek so I'll see when the time comes. I am not looking forward to Terminator either. T2 is the best Terminator as well as being one of the best movies ever in my opinion. I liked T3 as well, but this one has not Arnold and I am not a huge Christian Bale fan. It just doesn't seem like Terminator without Arnold.
|
If you are thinking about seeing this movie, you ought to be checking out the prequel comic books. Very interesting read.
|
i'm 34 years old. i never liked Star Trek as a kid and have never liked it since. and i've never cared for the Star Trek movies either. now, having been on the planet for a few decades, i have come to know what to expect from Star Trek movies. and i must say, that this trailer looks interesting. it looks like they're taking Star Trek into a new direction, and that's a good thing. unfortunately, if this movie turns out to be really good - they will shit out a bunch of limp sequels as soon as possible.
|
Definitely check out the prequel comics. The set of 4 is coming out next week.

http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/terminatorsalvation/ As for Start Trek.... I CANNOT FUCKING WAIT! I didn't mind Enterprise once Manny Coto was one of the main men on the production staff. So hopefully, Star Trek will be back with a new series. I'd personally love Titan to be involved with Riker and Tuvok (I know that ain't Canon, but a great starting point as we already know 2 crew members). Or my fave idea was DS9 again, they could of kept that going on and on. It was so diff to all other ST series. With the addition of the defiant and Gamma quadrant, it was just an immense space to play with for the writing crew. Or, another idea would be with Michael Shanks as captain. Personally, i thought it was such a good idea, he's well known and liked in SCI-FI circles to be given a chance http://www.tpww.net/forums/picture.p...&pictureid=295 |
Quote:
Sure, they could always do a 2 hour TV movie about Sisko and Odo coming back, with a story about the Cardasians having problems rebuilding there government after the war. But it's been like 11 years since the show ended so doubt we'll ever see DS9 again other then being mentioned. |

I believe it's on the 7th.
