Atari drops Ghostbusters multiplayer deets, neglects vital information
by Richard Mitchell { 9 minutes ago } http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...001xbox001.png http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...station001.png There are a few things to be gleaned from the Ghostbusters multiplayer details recently posted on Kombo.com. First of all, the game features co-operative multiplayer in which players catch ghosts as a team. Of particular interest is the multiplayer campaign mode, which allows you to earn cash and upgrade your equipment. There's also an Instant Action mode for less patient players. Beyond that, there are plenty of other details: six power-ups, twelve maps, six different game types, etc. The problem, see, is that Atari forgot one important piece of information concerning any Ghostbusters multiplayer experience: What happens when you cross the streams? It's a vital detail and, frankly, we're shocked it's not even mentioned. We can tell you this right now: If nothing happens when you cross the streams, the trivial geek rage will be heard the world over. |
Varying degrees of damage should occur when crossing the streams including a low chance of a game/round over.
Of course there should also be the mega stream with those same chances. |
Wow, the Wii looks way too cartoony.
|
OMG ACTUAL 360 FOOTAGE. I didn't see where I could embed this.

Holy. Shit.
 |
lol @ Wii version
|
to be honest with you guys...I don't think that's the Wii version.
I think that's the DS version. |
WTF. Obviously the 2nd pic is the DS. You'd think that it's dual screen and looks nothing like the Wii video would hint to that.

Alyssa Milano replaces Weaver in Ghostbusters: The Video Game
by Xav de Matos { 12 minutes ago } Everyone's dream girlfriend from the '80s and '90s, Alyssa Milano, will replace Sigourney Weaver as the leading lady in the upcoming Ghostbusters game from Atari. Weaver originally declined to reprise her role as musician -- and Bill Murray baby-mama -- Dana Barrett unless the game was of "high quality," until she had a change of heart. Unfortunately for the actress, and Ghostbusters fans, the change came too late in development as her character had been written out to make room for a new leading lady, voiced by Milano. Milano, still stunning at 36-years-old, will play Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn -- curator of the World of Gozer exhibit at the Natural History Museum in New York City. Also missing from the regular Ghostbusters cast is Canadian actor (and spokesperson) Rick Moranis, who has since left show business in the wake of collecting giant stacks of Honey! I Shrunk the Kids money. Ghostbusters go on the hunt on June 16. |
I'm indifferent. No doubt am I disappointed that Barrett isn't in (knew this already) but won't pass judgment until I see how Ilyssa fits in.
|
Ilyssa, according to a source who has worked on this game, is not Peter's love interest, but the player character's.
|
So you get to be a Ghostbuster AND bang Alyssa Milano.
Yeah they know how to market this to their target audience all right. |

|
Wow shit. That game must be offering something good. Looks sweet, great franchise and written by the original writers. Awesome
|
Thinking about it, this will likely be the game the defines "mainstream" video games as an alternative to movies. Hopefully it'll bring about similar games.

I dunno who this will effect here.

Today, in a strange move, that's no longer the case. Sony have swooped in late and signed a new publishing deal, whereby the PS3 and PS2 versions of the game will be released in PAL territories (ie Europe and Australasia) not by Atari, but by Sony Computer Entertainment. Those versions will be released on June 19, the same day that the film's due out on Blu-Ray. But what about the other versions? They'll be coming, but later in the year, as Sony's takeover means the game will be a timed exclusive to the PlayStation home consoles. As for what this means for customers outside PAL territories...hopefully Sony and/or Atari will have something to say about that later today. UPDATE - With the release of an official press release announcing the deal, this post has been updated to reflect the PAL-only nature of the announcement. |
^ yup read that earlier, literally a month or 2 from release on all formats and those cunts at sony pull this shit.
|
Read that earlier and thought what a bunch of shit that is
|
Meh, the game will likely be region free (most Atari ones are) and it's £40 with free shipping from Canada:

Smart of Sony to scoop up the rights for the exclusive.
Though this better not happen in the US. |

|
I think it may have to do with the financial troubles Atari has been experiancing over the last couple of years.
|
If Ghostbusters doesn't pull them out they're fucked.
By the way, I can't find confirmation on this. Is the PS2 version on the same engine as the Wii version? |

Didn't know the PS3 was region free.

It's been confirmed to be region free on 360, so we can import the American version :D
|
Oh shite, forgot about that exclusive deal :(
How much would it be to import it and where from? |
In next week's TRU ad, buy Ghostbusters (any platform) and receive a $20 gift card.
|
some Gamestops are doing a midnight release for this. Also if you have it reserved they have Dan Akroyd leaving one of those automated voice messages.
|
Yeah, answered phone today, didn't know who it was. Me "Hello" Phone "Good evening fellow paranormal investigator" I quickly try to run through any websites I may have signed up for as a result of my skeptical lifestyle. Phone "This is Dan Akryoyd" I just chuckle and laugh.

About £36 shipped. Also it is pretty exciting being a Ghostbuster, pretty fucking hard in parts too. |
So yeah, gonna pick this up today if I can find it.
Then I'm going to splooge because it will be the greatest thing I ever will have experienced. |
|
*SPLOOGE*
Last one at Gamestop. Edit: :foc: install times. |
I take it you don't have a TRU near by
|
I do...
Fucking hell I completely missed that. |
So go buy it again from TRU, then return that sealed copy to GS with the receipt. It'd be worth the trouble to me, might not to you.
How is the game :( |
The game is immense, the speech very rarely repeats and despite a few ropey controls, because of the little details, you can't put it down.
|
Rented PS3 version
|
Can't wait to play this. Waiting for my friend who ordered it to get out of work
|
Played for a few. Amazing.
|
Have you got a ps3 Xero or is this for Box.
|
Picked up my copy. But forget to get my code for the unlockable costume. I'll get going in a little while.

Anyone here that gets this for PS3 I'm down for some online Bustin.

Bought the Wii version but haven't tried it out yet. Did get to preview the 360 version at Gamestop though. OMG IT'S SO MUCH FUN BLASTING STAY PUFF! SO MUCH FUCKING FUN!
|
|
Yeah, so the DS version sucks. Driving is horrible. You cannot drive through anything. Like a fire hydrant. You stop dead in your tracks. Very annoying. Also, seems to be too complicated for the general market for this game (kids).
|
Had a blast just now. Although I first pop the game in and I get a "corrupt data" message and sent me into a panic. But it repaired and all is well.
|
I'm going to pick it up tomorrow after work. This is probably going to be the ultimate game for me.
|
Love the game (360), stuck at a part. Picked the hardest setting cause ghosts can't fuck with me. But like it's when battling Stay Puff, you go from time square into building and upstairs you go into this room and get royally fucked by these little creatures. Just can't stop em all.
|
I need to think of quick ways to make $60. :(
besides giving up my anal virginity |
Ever heard of renting?
|
gave up after like an hour stuck on one part, will try again tomorrow
|
I beat Stay Puft on Normal.
|
When you were in the room with just Ray, and fought the little marshmallow minies or whatever, that can be easily beaten with left trigger. How long did that go on for, cause that is where I'm stuck. I can do semi decent at times, but Ray always dies, or when I fall he dies trying to come save me. I know I'm close to beating it just can't get there. Would be a lot easier if didn't waste my money on the two proton pack upgrades.
|

I want to buy it, not rent it. And right now, with it coming with a $20 gift card, is why I want to buy it within the week. If I can't do it by then, I'll wait till it's cheaper in a couple months. |
Been waiting all day at work to get home and play this. Just got in, package was at my door. Gonna playyyy now
|
damn, just picked up prototype yesterday and find out this just came out too. i gotta own this game.

As a ghostbusters fan I can't get over how great this was. Just played through the entire thing with my friend and we were riveted. The story is awesome, the dialouge is awesome and the characters are in full form. The game itself plays amazingly and has such cool gameplay. The weapons, style of busting, and the upgrades are great. I particularly liked the PKE reader and the act of actually hunting ghosts and investigating, rather than just shoot em up. But don't worry, on top of the detective work theres plenty of shootin tex. The design of the levels is so creative. The different locations and concepts are fantastic, and I loved the gimmicks the ghosts had. Just a really enthralling game. I loved how it added to, and further explored the Ghostbusters mythology too. There are so many connections and references to the other movies, it's great. And last by not least, all of the in-jokes and homages to the franchise are amazing. Hopefully any fan plays this on Xbox, because the achievments are hilarious. The names are all based on classic lines from the film. Easily the most fun I've ever had watching somebody else play a game, and hopping in there was great too. |
If you have both consoles, looks like the debs slightly borked the PS3 version

About a week or two normally. The only extra cost you'd have is if it gets held up in customs and then you'll have to pay import tax, but I've ordered at least 30 games from hem and never been hit with that.
|
Hmm knowing my luck I would but for £36 it will probably be cheaper than when it eventually comes out over here.
|
Probably only save about 4 quid though.
I'm lucky that I get 10% off at Game because I work next to their concession in Selfridges. |
From what I've played of it (up to the library) it is the single best game I have played in a long time. I GOT TO FIGHT THE FUCKING STAY-PUFT MARSHMALLOW MAN! That is like a dream come true.
The flaws are GREATLY outweighed by the detail, story and overall fun gameplay of ghost wrangling. 10/10 from me. One gripe follows, though (very minor spoiler, about one of the details in the fire station). SPOILER: show I'm such a nerd... |

Cocksuckers cut multi out of the pc version entirely, id love to hear the rationale behind the best online gaming platform by far geting fucked out of a multiplayer component. Pc and online? thats clearly madness and will never work. :wtf:
They pretty much sealed their fate with regards to sales by doing this, i for one won't be buying it when it comes out here in november or whatever retarded date sony fucked 360 and pc owners with. Bound to be cracked for pc in a day or two so that'll do me. :foc: |

maybe they returned it to it's original form during some kind of experiment? Lol, I know that's lame but whatever. I think they just wanted to give some tips of the hat to GB2 here and there, since it primarily focused on elements from the first film. There are plenty of GB2 references and connections though. Loved SPOILER: show There's very little they skipped over though. Some things I'd like to see that didn't make the game... SPOILER: show That's really just a wishlist though. The game was more fun, had a better story, and included more elements from the films than I had even hoped. A few connections I marked out for... SPOILER: show |

Ghostbusters on PS3 lags behind 360 version; developer explains
by Christopher Grant { 2 minutes ago } http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...001xbox001.png http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...station001.png http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.c...s-ps3-xbox.gif High-res HDMI captures: Ghostbusters (PS3) & Ghostbusters (Xbox 360) Richard Leadbetter – Director of HD consultancy Digital Foundry and author of Eurogamer's multiplatform comparison Face-off features – tweeted that playing Ghostbusters on the PS3 was like "time-warping back to the dawn of PS3 development." Ouch! That's especially painful to read considering the high hopes Terminal Reality – developers of the just-released Ghostbusters game – have for their multiplatform Infernal Engine. Internet reports of a less-than-stellar PS3 version of the title originated at Lens of Truth on Monday, were later corroborated by Gamezine.co.uk and, following tomorrow's publication of Leadbetter's most recent Face-off feature, will be further corroborated by Eurogamer. Confusing the issue even further is the following quote from Terminal Reality's Mark Randel, who told VG247 last year, "We're one of the few developers who love the PS3 and have a great time with it. We have great technology for the PS3 and we want to show it off." Instead of leaving it up to internet Matlocks, we asked Terminal Reality to comment on the controversy. A spokesperson for the developer told us, "For the record, the PS3 version [of Ghostbusters] is softer due to the 'quincunx' antialiasing filter and the fact we render at about 75% the resolution of the 360 version. So you cannot directly compare a screen shot of one to the other unless you scale them properly. The PS3 does have less available RAM than the 360 – but we managed to squeeze 3 out of 4 textures as full size on the PS3." So: is the PS3 "maxed out"? Or is Terminal Reality's engine – despite comments to the contrary – just not up to snuff on the PS3? With most recent multiplatform titles performing comparably, if not identically, on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles, we'd be inclined to agree with Mr. Leadbetter: it's like "time-warping back to the dawn of PS3 development" when PS3 games were routinely outperformed by their Xbox 360 counterparts. Let's hope the irony of the situation is lost on Ghostbusters' exclusive European publisher ... Sony. As well as the franchise's owner ... Sony Pictures. |
oops
|
It's more noticible on Ghostbusters but it happens all the time. The 360 has quite a few strengths over the PS3, but the PS3 is more powerful overall. Because they 360 is the more popular console right now, devs tend to make the game for the 360s strengths and then port it to the PS3.
A notable exception is Burnout Paradise, which does look better on PS3. |
PS3 version looks fine to me.
|
Yea, but you don't have acheivments. They're a blast and hilarious
