I also think it's ridiculous to consider RVD, one of the biggest favorites and well liked wrestlers on here, easy. Even if Angle destroys him it's a testimony to Angle's popularity, rather than the incompetence of RVD as a challenger. RVD is way over. Aside from Flair, HBM, Stone Cold, Jericho and maybe The Rock, you're not going to find bigger favorites than RVD around here.
Also, Taz beat solid competition. He then went over HHH. Whether he's hated or not he's top notch. He earned his way in by taking out challengers nobody thought he would.

In case you haven't noticed, the past 4 hall of fame clinching rounds have been so close and compettitive that the defending champion has been knocked out everytime.
Piper, Flair, HBM and The Rock all made it four rounds of escalating difficulty and then got appropriate compettition at the gates of the HOF. They didn't get in.
It's as fair as it gets.

He also needs to look at the history. A lot of what you're calling cake walks or unfair matchups were actually quite close, and damn fair. That's great news. But also, it's not PURELY popularity. Ultimately it is, but there is varying levels of criteria involved. Everyone rates differently. Some vote on better wrestler in terms of skills from bell to bell. Others judge their own personal enjoyment over the years. Others judge status in the industry. And finally, some judge how good they are at their job (promos, charisma, etc.). They may also mix and match. It's more than just "my favoritez LOlz".
