I think a modern generation Indiana Jones game would be cool

I don't mean the Lego stuff. It's just not my thing, really. But watching the new Indy movie, I was thinking how cool a more open-world sort of game (Not as in Sandbox style, but various areas to explore) with an action theme. Mostly, I just want to kick Nazi ass with a whip and a gun.

I saw a "working title" PS3 game, though I know fuck all about it. Could be what I'm looking for if/when it comes out, but otherwise, I'd love to see a third person action game with some platforming and exploration elements.

Though with my luck, it'll probably be full of QTEs or something.

If anyone knows anything about the Indiana Jones game for the PS3, or if it's even real, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, anyone else want an Indiana Jones game?

Kane Knight 12-21-2008 08:37 PM

By modern generation, I meant as in generation of consoles, not as in like Indiana Jones '09.

.44 Magdalene 12-21-2008 09:17 PM

Sooo... Tomb Raider with nazis

And whips. I'm pretty sure the only whips Lara's ever used are in fanfics.

.44 Magdalene 12-21-2008 09:29 PM

Hmmm

So some sort of Castlevania with Lara Croft and Nazis for Draculas

.44 Magdalene 12-21-2008 09:29 PM

Nazis for Draculas is probably an indie band

Kane Knight 12-21-2008 09:36 PM

Mitchables and Clox probably think they're 10/10.

Still awesome summary.

Kane Knight 12-22-2008 12:12 AM

Was there a Castlevania set in the thirties or forties in Germany or India? Perhaps with Zombie Hitler?

Jeritron 12-22-2008 02:28 AM

Yes. With modern gaming it would be a lot of fun. The franchise obviously has potential for limitless stories and adventures, build around endless amounts of artifacts, history, and geography.
Since age will likely only allow them to do one more movie, if that, (which I'm all for btw), VGs is a great place to keep the potential alive.

The Destroyer 12-22-2008 03:17 AM

I remember seeing screenshots of a new Indy game ages ago - sure it involved cable cars in San Francisco or similar.

Pretty sure it is still in development, but Lucasarts put it on hold to focus on The Force Unleashed.

Lord-Of-Darkness 12-22-2008 08:56 AM

I've been thinking they should take old movie licences and make next gen games, like they're doing with Ghostbusters.

Several things come to mind, like this, Terminator, Jurrasic Park etc.

How "new" is it? I only ask because the San Fran cars bit sounds like some of the screenshots I saw for an earlier PC Indy game. Could be they're doing it again...San Francisco is a big town where a lot of shit can go down, especially for Indy.

Boomer 12-22-2008 09:29 AM

The PC Indy games were Tomb Raider with Nazis...seriously.

Kane Knight 12-22-2008 10:25 AM

Never played one.

Lord-Of-Darkness 12-22-2008 11:52 AM

Wasn't there an Indy game for the Xbox? Was it any good? Is it BC with the 360?

It's not new new... 2006 maybe?

That is seemingly still the game that's in development though.

Not Fate of Atlantis. That was nothing like Tomb Raider, since it was a) years before Tomb Raider and b) an adventure game.

And a fucking awesome one, at that.

Boomer 12-22-2008 08:32 PM

Well of course that. But everybody should know about that one. At least I think they should.

I was talking all the modern gen stuff.

mitchables 12-22-2008 08:34 PM

Screw modern gen. Fate of Atlantis is the only Indy game that matters.

That would definitely be newer.

BigDaddyCool 12-24-2008 09:37 AM

Sooo, in this Indy game, would you be Jones and the main part of the game is trying to escape the evil Jew clutches of Spielberg and Lucas before they rape you?

Sorry, I've only seen the south park version.

Kane Knight 12-24-2008 11:11 AM

Ooh, how clever of them.

Kalyx triaD 12-24-2008 01:19 PM

An Indy game should have interactive 'Indy moments'. Like fist fighting Nazis on top of a truck at high speed, and being able to hop on other cars on the road. I'd like plenty of 'fighting on something moving toward doom' events.

I don't know. The only way that would work is if Marty is revealed to be a Terminator. Only because it would add actual gameplay aside from just going through time to lure Biff's ancestors into piles of shit.

The only downside is, it would probably be done as QTEs.

Kalyx triaD 12-24-2008 10:08 PM

Does any game still do that? That shit's weak. An paradox of cutscene/interaction I grew out of years ago.

I can think of a few, but not many. Then again, I find 'em enough of a turnoff that I avoid most games based upon that alone.

I mean, if it's an otherwise excellent game, I will probably give it a spin, but...

Kalyx triaD 12-24-2008 10:58 PM

I remember Spider-Man 3 having those moments, but that was one of its many issues.

Kinda hard to believe Indy didn't get a decent game at this point, not so much as an honorable nod or anything. Especially with license-happy LucasArts at the helm.

.44 Magdalene 12-25-2008 03:03 AM

Errr, Lego Indiana Jones?

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows does, too.

I don't know how frequently, but I was in a cutscene (or so I thought) and it started telling me to hit buttons.

And it was especially retarded in WoS, because the hero sequences wouldn't even make sense. Fucked the button up?

YOU FORGET YOU ARE SPIDERMAN. YOU ARE KNOCKED OFF A BUILDING AND YOU DIE

I know. Plus, the QTEs are so dumb. You fall and die. DO OVER!

Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings.

It's coming out for Wii, PSP, and DS.

Kalyx triaD 01-27-2009 09:06 PM

I fuckin hate target render vids to announce games. 10 out of 10 times the game falls short.

Anyway, I wonder if this is the Indy game Lucasarts talked about for like three years.

Champion of Europa 01-27-2009 09:07 PM

From what I've read, it's going to be using Force Unleashed's engine.

Kalyx triaD 01-27-2009 09:11 PM

Oh, a half-decent physics engine under the hood of a non-decent ho-hum 3rd Person wasteofmoney. Is that right?

How do you even let a team responsible for platforming games just up and make a better Indy game than your own when you have the license? How hard is this sort of thing? Action, adventure, humor, chases - come on, people!

wwe2222 01-27-2009 09:13 PM

why isnt this coming out on 360?

Kalyx triaD 01-27-2009 09:23 PM

Why isn't what coming out for 360? We didn't see a damn thing.

Um, the preview for the Indiana Jones game above?

To which someone said it was coming out on Wii, PSP, and DS?

That was an announcement target render, we know nothing other than it's a game about Indy and it has Williams' score from the movies. It didn't preview shit.

I got your reference Kalyx

Kalyx triaD 01-28-2009 02:27 AM

Very good.

Shaggy 01-28-2009 02:53 AM

Yea I was so happy to see this trailer earlier today except for the end when it shows the systems its on. Im glad that its coming out for some next gen consoles but I was really hoping for a 360 version. Who knows...the game still has time.
