I think he needs some mic time to explain who he is and what he's all about. I mean ok, Striker and Grisham could build him up...but people wanna hear from him, and it would be taken more seriously.

I actually really enjoyed the ECW title match last night. Thought it went pretty perfectly. Also, I KNEW something was up as soon as they started milking the whole Hardy crying over his loss deal.

I think the main problem here is that he hasn't really showcased a character yet. He's the huge smiling guy that beat Hardy for the belt.

I think the guy definitely has that 'star' look to him but at the moment he's got nothing to back it up. If the WWE is going to shove him down our throats, I need some substance. Develop his character a little more, align him with a known star, and give him some mic time and then this won't be so out of whack.

Narc, who would/could you team Swagger with to build on his character?

Well, there are alot of possibilities at the moment that could really help out. I mean, Swagger is a clean slate. They haven't done anything to make him or break him yet. After all the cuts that have been made this year, I'm not 100% sure who is with the company anymore but her it goes:

"Freebird" Michael Hayes- Excellent on the stick and would be a really great manager for a guy like Swagger. Swaggers main problem right now is a lack of hype and a lack of personality so I could see this pairing helping with both of those aspects. Hayes could pull something where Swagger confronts him backstage, Hayes looks at the ECW title and says something like "Boy, you don't even know what you got." and then walks away. Blah, blah, setting up for a manager/mentor type deal.

Christian- I know that they'll probably have bigger plans for Jay when he finally gets around to coming in but the similarities between Christian and Swagger are pretty uncanny. They both have the same type of cocky bastard heel look to them and I could see Swagger developing into a character much like that of Cage.

Chris Jericho- The spot of Lance Cade as Jericho's follower was never really filled again after Cade's departure. Maybe Swagger could pull a "Now that I've been here for awhile, I can see that everything you're saying is absolutely true" type thing.

Matt Striker- He could be pretty easily replaced on commentary for ECW and Striker is a great manager. He already talks Swagger up on a weekly basis so...

Other than that, I can't think of all too much unless he formed a stable on ECW with Miz and Morrison. Anyway, just some ideas.

Why not turn Finlay heel and pair them up? But Finlay isn't good on the mic. OR, why not have Teddy Long sign Swagger on to Keep that fag Ortiz away from his chick!

I think the character that Swagger reminds BDC of makes for a great heel, actually. You want to hate him because he's such a douche bag, but you can't deny that he's good at what he does. I thought the match last night was good, along with the original title win and that Extreme Rules match with Tommy Dreamer all that time ago. He does feel slightly forced, but there's really not too much else to work with on the ECW brand right now. I think they're trying to align him with a more established guy by having him team with Mark Henry, but I guess they don't realize that nobody really gives a fuck about Mark Henry either.

I think champions like Swagger add to the feeling that anybody can win a title on any given night. I do like him a lot though.

There's a difference between the feeling that anything can happen and it actually happening. The former's really good. The latter, usually not so much.

Though to be honest, I used to wish they'd throw us the occasional curveball, so this could have been nice, had it not just been the latest in a long line of events.

I think he has potential (hell, he's only like 25 or 26), but the title reign is coming too soon for anyone to really give a crap about him. It doesn't make much sense to stick a title on a guy when he's only been in the company for literally 4 months and only wrestled on a 1-hour C-show. At least Angle had weeks of vignettes and Lesnar had Heyman to help get him over...Swagger's just sitting there with that goofy smile on his face trying to be a heel with a crappy "All-American American" gimmick. He's got the size of somebody who could be booked as a brutal overpowering heel, but instead he's made out to look like this big oaf who's just happy to be there.

The cocky jock thing can be pulled off, but let the man cut some promos or get him a manager to make him unique. Right now he's just Generic Former Amateur Champion #235.

His look is REALLY bad.

Did anyone see the promo he cut during his feud with Tommy Dreamer? That shit really helped him stand out as an asshole. And not the jocky kind of asshole that BDC is talking about, but the kind of asshole that calls your daughter a cunt without having ever met her. And then he goes and sleeps her. Twice.

If you've been watching his entire career, you'd know that he's not just a cocky asshole, but the character he plays is a pretty disgusting person.

The guy is damn good in the ring, in my opinion, but I'm not going to try and sell him anymore than that. I'll let Swagger do his own selling, because he's going to be around for a while.

Yeah, the match was messy. I really didn't know he was supposed to be a full heel, he didn't do anything heelish all match.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying he wins matches "clean", for the most part. He's easy to hate because he's a dickhead, but he gets wins.

Just an aside, but let's pretend BDC doesn't have Sci-Fi. Is it still his fault that he doesn't know? Matt Hardy is covered on at least one of the other, main shows, but Swagger is not. I mean, a lot of people don't even have Sci-Fi, so they can't exactly follow ECW, want to or not.

That aside, WWE recaps almost everything ad nauseum. They design the product intentionally so you can pick up and play at virtually any time. I find it hard to believe that with the smallest roster in years and only like 3 matches a week at most, they can't establish the contender for the title at an event where they're hoping for a large audience.

Wrestling shouldn't be homework.

The best part was the look he gave before he answered the question, like he was so happy with himself that he came up with something so witty.

I agree on him sounding like Lashley. I couldn't pay attention to anything he said last night because of that damn lisp. Hard to sound like a badass when you have a speech impediment.

I'm gonna ignore his mic skills, because he only said two words, but his demeanor is exactly what BDC was talking about, which backs up his point about the asshole jock perfectly.

He's not a stereotypical badass. He IS a bit on the goofy side, but he still gets the job done in the ring.

As far as last night, that whole show was just ass, but I feel you could have put anybody in Swagger's spot with that storyline and it would have been awful.

Oh, and BDC, you didn't miss The Boogeyman's match. Ricky Ortiz came out and told him that he didn't have to eat worms to get over with the fans. All he needed was a Ricky O Rally Towel. The Boogeyman punched him and then Ortiz just....left. That was the "match". Pretty bad there too.

Well, sometimes it's good to get a mark's perspective on things and my 12 yeard old brother calls me all the time and talks to me about wrestling and such. He's seen every ECW episode almost (I don't even watch it) and he always says that he hopes Hardy pulls through and blah blah because Swagger is a total jerk. So, I guess you could say that Swagger is doing his job. We are just a bunch of overcritical assholes.

An ECW title reign would not help Finlay, Henry was just the champ (and I disagree with that anyway), Tommy Dreamer is in the middle of a storyline where he's obviously going to win the title in about six months, Chavo's more on SmackDOWN! than anything plus he just had an ECW title reign, and The Miz and Morrison are tag champs.

Finlay, to a degree. He's a more polished worker, but he doesn't have the image the WWE really want to promote for ECW right now. They're going to use him to make Swagger a star. Also, Finlay is probably slightly below Swagger's level on the mic. Yeah, Swagger has a lisp, but he's a good talker otherwise.

Mark Henry is not better than Swagger. Maybe a little better than him on the mic. Maybe.

Tommy Dreamer is more experienced, but he's old, and his story is leading up to him either winning the ECW Title in June, or not. Him being ECW Champion now would be pointless. Dreamer is probably a better talker, but he's had years more experience in front of crowds.

Chavo Guerrero has really improved on the mic, but probably is around Swagger's level. In the ring he's more experienced, but the WWE obviously doesn't want to use Chavo credibly.

The Miz has improved so well, but his personality just hasn't quite developed to the point where he can be taken seriously as a top star. His ring work is probably below Swagger's.

John Morrison is a maybe, but he's caught up with other things. He really doesn't seem like a good fit to be ECW Champion right now. He should be building towards other things. Morrison is entertaining, but it comes from a different place other than specific mic skills or ring skills.
