I'm sorry, but i still have a 7+ year beef with the WWE and how they used DDP
Maybe because DDP is one of my top 5 favorite wrestlers of all time, but c'mon, the guy could've put SO many guys over and/or had some great matches with wrestlers old and new. Can you imagine they had a DDP v. The Rock match. Who is the REAL people's champion? Instead, they come in with this stalker angle, which is just RETARDED because at that time he was still with Kimberly so why would he go from her to Sara? No offense to UT or anything but yea.
I just had to rant there. You can talk about some of your favorite DDP moments, why what happened was right/wrong, where Jimmy Hoffa really is, etc. DDP is one of the most underrated performers of all time. I'm not saying he was the most technical, the best mic worker, but give the guy his due. He always put on good matches, had one of the best finishers of all time, had cool ass ring attire for the most part of his career, was WAY over, had one of the best taunts, like i could go on forever. And because he was from WCW and probably turned down deal after deal with them, he was treated like he wasn't one of the top 5 popular guys from WCW. His logo was boss too, btw |

DDP vs. Benoit vs. Raven is still one of my favorite matches of all time.
He was the shit, and they didn't use him at all. That's the way it goes sometimes. Luckily I still have good memories of him in WCW when he was at his best. |
It's me it's me it's D-D-P!!!!
|
I don't really think it was the same guy in WWE.
|
They were just teeth!
|
|
I'm still upset too that they didn't even try to push him. I swear they did everything they could to keep him far away from the main event picture. He had a stupid intro "Yo! It's me. It's me. It's DDP" Instead of just "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG". His music sucked. His gimmick was pretty crap. BLAH. He's one of the few guys who really connects with the fans... like on a personal level. He really was the peoples' champ.
|
The best to come out of DDP's motivational gimmick was Christian's hissy fits.
|
The stalker thing really sealed his fate in the WWE.
|
It wasn't a good thing after all.
|
well, at least he didn't job to the Undertaker's Wife at the time...
oh wait... In any event, I'm glad he's making a living as Dog the Bounty Hunter. |
lol
|
the stalker thing could have been more than fine if they didn't have him jobbed the fuck all the time
|
DDP, Taz, Mike Awesome, and Ultimo Dragon were definitely the most misused talent ever.
|
I won't say I was ever the biggest DDP fan, but he did always perform and put on a great show. His time in WWE definately sucked for him as I agree that they never pushed him in a good way. I even think that his time as a manager in the AWA of Bad Company with the Diamond Doll was better than the crap that WWE had him work.
|
I sometimes look at the Survivor Series match from that year and think (as a mark), dammit if they had DDP instead of Shane McMahon the Alliance woulda won!
|
What's more baffling is how they could ruin something like this:

I agree with everything Johnny said. DDP could have done so much more, but the stalker thing just killed him right of the bat, despite the ridiculous pop he got when he was revealed.
Anyway favourite DDP moments: - The whole fued between him and Raven/Raven's Flock - Winning first world title - His battle with the nWo, faking so many times joining them and the Diamond Cuttering them - Diamond Cutters out of no where, especially the one on Billy Kidman when he was swinging from the cage and the one against Goldberg So many others though, such a shame he was so misused. |

Best Diamond Cutter ever was the one where he had someone's back on his shoulder, flipped him over and hit it. Beautiful.
I'm gonna go play some WCW/nWo Revenge. Which Diamond Cutter should I finish Goldberg off with, top rope, or Flapjack to Diamond Cutter? |
I'm going to say something that probably won't go over well:
Orton has perfected the "Ace Cutter out of nowhere" gimmick and leaves DDP in the dust. And it looks better overall. |
Come on now. Back-into-shoulder into DC OR Flapjack into DC> RKO with someone flying off the top rope
|
I should add that those are the 3 best I recall from either wrestler
|
I honestly think if DDP had lasted a little longer he may well have been used better. Let's face it, WWE jobbed all of the WCW guys.
How long it take them to use Booker T in any meaningful way? He fueded with Edge over a shampoo commercial leading into WMX8. It wasn't until a year later he was used to full potential (fueding with HHH over the title at WMXIX - even if he was jobbed). If he's not got injured/left the company I think he would have found his way into a decent angle or two. |
DDP was cool, the Diamond Cutter was great.
Orton is GOD. When he hits the RKO, I hear unicorns cry. |

So who got Tazzed worse, Taz or DDP?
|
Tazz got something of a push for a while there. DDP got jack shit.
Plus Tazz is still with the company in a prominent role. |
Tazz still has a job...but only because his younger more talented brother, Taz, died.

For the record, yes, I did mean "Ace Crusher".

DDP's were more dangerous in my opinion. And the way he used the innovative ways was too awesome. Orton's RKO is good too but DDP would get u like 5 min into the match if he wanted. I think Orton has more impact on his bc it looks more videogamish idk lol

Ugh. "It seems to come out of no where. -masterbates-"
|
Orton has not reached DDP-status when it comes to the Cutter. I think you guys are just buying into his "oh shit, I'm so intense that I have to do push-ups before I hit this guy with the RKO" schtick. DDP's Cutters came out of nowhere and it was like he was busting out a new variation for it every other week. Orton has pulled off a couple good ones (against Benoit, against Taker at WM21), but DDP still takes the cake.
|
The Best Diamond Cutters I've seen were.
The Backslide attempt, into a flipover, Diamond Cutter to that one guy, I can't remember his name....Damn, nevermind, his opponent never existed. One that I still can't find, is one he did on WCW Saturday Night in 98 to Eddie Guerrero, lifting him up into a Powerbomb and catching him with the Cutter on the way down. The Goldberg one was great, as well as the Kidman, Swinging Cage Cutter. I remember, one he did to that one opponent who never existed, where that dude was going for a Diving Head Butt on Kanyon, and DDP Ran across the ring, cut off said wrestler, with a Diamond Cutter. Overall, I do agree Orton has perfected the coming out of nowhere RKO, but DDP did it more times, and while it was out of nowhere, it was expected on DDP part, where, You don 't really see it coming for Orton. |

I agree with the OP that DDP (like most wrestlers from WCW) were used like crap in WWE...I still hate how they did the Invasion. Injecting the McMahons in it and all, it just looked like a real CRAP version of nWo. It seemed that Booker T was the only one who (eventually) came out of that mess and got over (even if he, too, had to endure some crap).
You wouldn't think it by just looking at the guy, but seeing his matches, DDP was definitely an entertaining wrestler to watch, with the many ways he would pull off the Diamond Cutter. I think there was once a match with him versus Raven at Uncensored that was a classic. The way he booked in WWE was absolutely disgusting; the way he was booked to have no offense at all against the Undertaker was just BS, and the beginning of the end. The only thing I liked about all of that crap is that it ensured that a real Diamond Cutter was put into the SmackDown video games. Other than that... it was BS. Randy Orton is one of the few "homegrown" talents of WWE that have actually panned out, but to me his RKO, while mark-out worthy, isn't seeing the many ways DDP hit the Diamond Cutter. Plus, because he "flies" alot while doing the move and does it one-handed, it reminds me of what it would look like if The Rock decided to do the Diamond Cutter. What Orton has truly mastered is how to pull it out at a time that almost instantly = a mark-out moment. I was playing WWE Day of Reckoning 2, and the cut scene where he RKOs you after Edge and Jericho beat you up was just as much a mark-out moment as it would have been in real life. |
