IYO: Best In Ring Performer in the WWE

(Don't mention HBM cause we all know that there is no one in his comparision at the moment...in the E)

Krimzon7 02-08-2009 10:36 AM

Wow, The best? I would have to give the nod to Shawn Michaels. But, since I like to follow the youngsters, so I will give honorable mention to HBM V2.0, John Morrison.

Maluco 02-08-2009 10:50 AM

I think it is still Shawn Michaels, and even though he is my favourite of all time, I wish it wasn't him anymore.

Until WWE change their policies and look past the bodies of Cena and Batista to guys with real talent, we won't have many more Flairs or Michaels around, ones that can tell a story and get you into a match, rather than rattle off their 3 sig moves and hit their finisher.

GD 02-08-2009 10:50 AM

I can still remember Cena powerbombing Angle into the turnbuckle back in 04. Heel Cena was the shit!

GD 02-08-2009 10:52 AM

John Morrison is decent. CM Punk seems to have limited his arsenal lately.

Krimzon7 02-08-2009 10:52 AM

Yes, Cena displayed the qualities that could elevate him into the Main Event. The type of qualities that the WWE will water down and shove into the gullets of fans everywhere.

Maluco 02-08-2009 10:57 AM

Even Cena unleashed and on a good day would not reach Michaels level. Morrison and Punk, on the other hand, if they progress and learn how to sell a story in the ring could have big futures as 'in ring performers'

GD 02-08-2009 11:05 AM

Dave >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> HBKool >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cena.

Triple Naitch 02-08-2009 11:41 AM

HBK (he's my fav) :shifty:

Fignuts 02-08-2009 11:52 AM

HBK, by far.

Krimzon7 02-08-2009 12:00 PM

Punk, Really? It's no secret that I'm not high on this guy(:shifty:). I see him as being a solid performer. I think SHelton Benjamin, MVP, TBK, and even the Miz are better performers than Punk. I hope it isn't sever bias, but I've been entertained by matches including the above mention at a far more regular clip that the matches of Punk.

Fabien Barthez 02-08-2009 12:01 PM

I'm going to break the mould a little bit and say Edge. Ever since he won the title the first time, I've not seen him in a match that hasn't entertained.

If this was wrestling, not just WWE, I would have to say Kurt Angle.

I can list a dozen entertaining matches that include Edge. But I still feel that he needs one big match to cement his legacy in wrestling history.

Gertner 02-08-2009 12:57 PM

Shelton Benjamin. The guy can have a great match with anybody. His matches with Taker were fantastic.

Nark Order 02-08-2009 12:58 PM

Chris Benoit. Although lately he's been working a little too stiff.

I would say last year's Wrestlemania was that match for him, even though he lost.

Oddly enough, I didn't like those matches. Weird too, because I quite like Shelton.

As far as what we're talking about here, I think Shawn Michaels takes the cake.

Krimzon7 02-08-2009 01:22 PM

Edge is the goods. I can agree that he needs one 5 1/2 star classic that will put him up there with the Gods. He has that chance at WM this year. If he can pull off a diamond of a match with HHH, who could deny edge's awesomeness?

GD 02-08-2009 01:26 PM

Shawn has always been awesome in the ring. Shelton has had some really nice matches in the past and I can never forget his Intercontinental Championship match against Jericho at Backlash. Since WWE is all about PG now they can very well showcase Mr.Benjamin owing to his boyish looks.

HeartBreakMan2k 02-08-2009 01:28 PM

Shawn Michaels without question.

Theo Dious 02-08-2009 01:32 PM

I don't think anyone can touch HBM. If I broke it up, I'd have to say that he, Jericho, and Taker are the best older guys, while Morrison, MVP, and Orton are the best newer guys. Yeah, I said Orton. Regardless of what he does or doesn't do outside the ring, when he gets in there is is, as the kids are saying, the goods.

A PG rating doesn't mean young people are featured on the show. Remember Mr. Rogers?

GD 02-08-2009 01:38 PM

You do have a point. All I wanted to convey is that he can grown on the kids very easily.

Anybody Thrilla 02-08-2009 01:41 PM

I think he could also grow on kids with his crazy athleticism if they really let him do his thing in the ring. A kid watching Shelton Benjamin in a Money in the Bank match might become a fan of his for life.

Mr. Pierre 02-08-2009 02:03 PM

Shawn Michaels, Taker, Edge, Orton IMO

Jeritron 02-08-2009 02:12 PM

Absolutely HBM

Rammsteinmad 02-08-2009 02:43 PM

How come nobody has said Chris Jericho? Jericho rules!

Yeah, I'm a Miz fan too, but better than CM Punk? I think not

and to answer the question, I'm gonna have to go with Edge and Chris Jericho

Anybody Thrilla 02-08-2009 02:54 PM

The Miz has a much sweeter hat than CM Punk, and don't you forget it.

Juan 02-08-2009 02:57 PM

lol Touché

Fabien Barthez 02-08-2009 05:13 PM

Do the TLC's, the MITB he won and his match with Foley? He just has not had a bad match, or not drawn the reaction he was working in years. Plus, he must have at least 5 years on top to go. I think we are going to see him peak around now.

And yes, his match with Taker at Mania was as 5 stars as it gets as far as i'm concerned.

St. Jimmy 02-08-2009 05:28 PM

Triple H, Edge, Jericho. (Obviously HBK)

Nicky Fives 02-08-2009 05:31 PM

1. HBK
2. Randy Orton
3. Edge
4. Undertaker
5. John Morrison

I think Edge and Chris Jericho are currently the best characters and the best promo men in the business. I also think they're right in the top 4 or 5 in ring. I don't think they edge out HBM though. Just my opinion.

Juan 02-08-2009 07:11 PM

Yeah, HBK is a given though...

Fox 02-08-2009 09:11 PM

Jericho

taker can barely move.

The Optimist 02-08-2009 11:15 PM

HBK, but since that's a boring (but correct) answer.
Second is probably Jericho, overall.

The Optimist 02-08-2009 11:16 PM

Watching the Royal Rumble made me ashamed, or proud backwards, of how much slower Show was than Taker. Just saying.

Krimzon7 02-08-2009 11:59 PM

HBK is a given. Juan, I don't know why I yawn when I see Punk hit the tube, and I will reserve any other comments about him due to my extreme bias against him. The Best I've seen outta Punk was when he worked with Morrison during the ECW feud. I also enjoyed his title win against regal, but mainly because of Regal, and Layla. It may sound crazy, but I don't think Edge has peaked. I get the sense that he has just plateaued due to the lack of new blood to work with. Let's see edge working with MOrrison, Kennedy, TBK, Dibiase, and some new kids... YOu will see a new level of excellence outta Mr. Copeland.

Crazy Nick 02-09-2009 04:18 AM

I will have to go with the rest of you guys and agree that Shawn Michaels is the best. Like Juan said though thats a given though, I really enjoy Jeff Hardy, Triple H, Randy Orton and Chris Jericho as well.

Tazz Dan 02-09-2009 04:44 AM

Jericho.

Fox 02-10-2009 01:23 AM

I like HBK a lot, but I feel like his matches have become more cookie-cutter, by the numbers type of matches. Either he gets screwed at the end, or he takes a beating before hitting his usual array of moves (atomic drop, flying forearm and kip up, flying elbow) and then Chin Music for 3.

Jericho seems to mix it up a bit more and his promo work this year has been untouchable. HBK on the mic is still good because the guy just has a natural charisma, but he's simply not as entertaining or funny as he used to be.

Mr. Nerfect 02-10-2009 03:44 AM

I've never been one of those guys who worships the ground Shawn Michaels walks on, but he is a correct answer. There are personal answers to these sort of questions, and then there are answers that everyone can give to be safe. HBK is the safe answer to the question.

I'd put him and Chris Jericho together as the top two guys in the company, currently. Jericho's re-inventional last year was absolutely brilliant, and if Jericho goes over Ric Flair, Mickey Rourke or Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania this year, I would expect a fucking great 2009 out of him.

Edge looked like he reached another level at times last year. Namely during his WrestleMania match with The Undertaker, and his Hell in a Cell stuff. He keeps racking up the World Title victories, too. That being said, I agree that he still needs to have that classic. Not that he hasn't had classics, but he just needs to have that classic. Vincent D'Onofrio is a great actor, with some fantastic performances underneath his belt, but where is that blow-away Oscar worthy one? Edge needs to do a Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight or Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler to really get some attention. I actually think a face turn would do a lot of good for him.

Shelton Benjamin is one name that I've seen mentioned, and I've got to agree, his recent stuff has been quite brilliant. The Undertaker obviously liked working with him, and he already has a fanbase going for him. His matches never seem bad, or boring. Some are just better than others.

John Morrison is still learning the craft, but he's doing so well, and he's just damn entertaining in there. Here's hoping he turns into something.

Mr. Nerfect 02-10-2009 03:45 AM

Oh, and William Regal and Jamie Noble. Those two are just fantastic in the ring.

brennie 02-13-2009 02:11 PM

HBK is the man and the man who could get close in future is the legend killer Randy Orton. they could use a short face turn for orton like the time when he first won the world title.
