Better Wrestler #59

We saw a blowout last time folks as CM Punk proved that when he says he's better than you, he's clearly talking about Samoa Joe. The last bout almost became a record holder as it now has the second highest number of votes of all time.

But now BW is about to get serious as this might be Punk's final match in this run. He only needs one more win to see the Hall of Fame, but he's gonna have to beat a living legend to do it:

El Fangel 02-09-2009 06:14 PM

I voted not Punk.

I would have voted Macho Man anyways, but its the icing on the cake that I am voting somebody better then Punk because I like them better and not just because i dont like Punk.

Juan 02-09-2009 06:14 PM

I voted for Randy because I have a lot of great memories of him from his days in the WWF. I'm a Punk fan, but you just can't deny the awesomeness that was Randy Savage in the WWF. WCW though, not so much.

Lock Jaw 02-09-2009 06:19 PM

I vote for the Macho Man. Dig it!

thedamndest 02-09-2009 06:28 PM

I voted for Jay Lethal, OHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Fabien Barthez 02-09-2009 06:35 PM

I voted for Punk. He is a much better in ring storyteller, and his feuds have stood out in my mind much more vividly for how pwerfully they have been delivered.

ron the dial 02-09-2009 06:43 PM

ignoring childhood memories and going based on who has impressed me more in and out of the ring upon viewing now, i have to go with punk. maybe a few guys from the old days would go over punk for me, but not macho man.

Heros Welcome 02-09-2009 06:45 PM

For this vote it comes down to Punks entire career, which I have seen all of, against WCW Macho, because I never got the chance to see Macho in his WWF days. Thats something I really gotta get on since I have heard nothing but good things.

My vote goes to Punk, soley based on the fact that I feel he is the total package and when I compare him for all I have seen against WCW Macho, I'm siding with Punk. But I think its safe to say my vote won't be a deal breaker, since I think Macho will run away with this one.

mike adamle 02-09-2009 07:02 PM

punk is the better wrestler here, but macho is close to him

Fabien Barthez 02-09-2009 07:03 PM

I was obviously lying. Poffo for me.

Dorkchop 02-09-2009 07:09 PM

Wrestlemania 3.

Indifferent Clox 02-09-2009 07:10 PM

I enjoy both, Punk isn't a fucking cartoon charecter stereotype that fucks with the entire image of prowrestling.

Macho man isn't a straight edge possible poser with a history in ROH

so it was punk

Looks like we have another hot match on our hands

Good Ol JG 02-09-2009 08:07 PM

Punk is really good, but Savage is one of the most underrated wrestlers of all time and one of the top guys in the business for nearly 2 decades. This vote is easy.

Triple Naitch 02-09-2009 08:12 PM

I voted Punk, but now I may be regretting it. My Macho King action figure was one of my favorite toys of all time.

KYR 02-09-2009 08:12 PM

One of the easiest votes for me.

Macho Man (+ had one of my all-time favourite WWF/E women as his valet/manager )

Edit: :'(

El Fangel 02-09-2009 08:14 PM

I seriously want to smack everyone who voted for Punk.

I can however neg all of you :)

screech 02-09-2009 08:14 PM

I've seen more of Punk than I have the Macho Man, so I have to go with Punk.

Krimzon7 02-09-2009 08:31 PM

I voted for savage. One of the reasons that Hogan was so over was because Macho helped put him over. There was only ONE other person who could hold thier own as a mega power. That was Savage. Therefore, it is Savage.

Santino=Greatness 02-09-2009 09:10 PM

Lets be honest Macho might be a legend of wrestling, but Punk is a better overall wrestler. But Macho Man might be the 2nd best person on the mic EVVVVVVVVVVER, next to The Ultimate Warrior

HeartBreakMan2k 02-09-2009 09:35 PM

I can't at all understand how Punk edged out Booker T, and I am COMPLETELY baffled as to how he's this close to the Macho King.

I think it's indicative to how old most posters in here are.

McLegend 02-09-2009 10:25 PM

Punk is gonna win this.

Innovator 02-09-2009 10:26 PM

One guy pulled a blank on his memory and carried a Samoan for 60 minutes with a bad back.

One guy called Steamboat to his house and rehearsed a Mania match MOVE FOR MOVE.

CM Punk.

Juan 02-09-2009 10:40 PM

I love Punk, but I will lose all faith in humanity if he beats Randy Savage.

McLegend 02-09-2009 10:43 PM

Macho Man is arguably the best wrestler from the 80's, and the 80's probably produced the best wrestlers.

KYR 02-09-2009 11:13 PM

This is probably my only criticism about the structure of BW HoF.

It is always going to be difficult to get a deserving/true legend into the HoF if we e.g. put a Macho Man, Harley Race, Tully Blanchard, Ricky Steamboat etc up against a current wrestler, who's not even at the peak of his career, but happens to be "over" at the moment and "known" by the relatively young voters here.

I'm not saying Punk doesn't deserve to win this round, I just believe that it is just so much harder for a deserving wrestler to get into the HoF simply because a few people "have never seen him wrestle therefore I'll vote for the other guy".

Not a "Narc" rant...just an OBSERVATION.

Destor 02-09-2009 11:51 PM

It's not a wrestling HoF KYR, it's the BW HoF. Nothing more.

KYR 02-09-2009 11:57 PM

I know Des.

I just get a little down when I think that "potentially" someone really deserving is going to miss out.

I mean, when you think about it, you'd have to agree that a Ricky Steamboat or a Harley Race SHOULD be a lock for the HoF.

Destor 02-10-2009 12:01 AM

But not on TPWW, and this HoF reflects TPWW taste.

El Fangel 02-10-2009 12:14 AM

I was joking about negging people by the way :p

Seriously vote Macho Man people.

Verbose Minch 02-10-2009 12:50 AM

OH YEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

The Optimist 02-10-2009 12:55 AM

I love how Gene handled that crazy shit.

Someone convince me one way or the other. I love both these guys.

Savage by far. The definition of a perfectionist in his day.

Good Ol JG 02-10-2009 02:59 AM

Look I'm totally cool with Punk as a wrestler, but whoever said that he was a better overall performer than Savage must be crazy. How many classic matches could Punk pull out of the Ultimate Warrior? Could Punk have worked with 4 very different guys on the same night and have good matches with all of them, despite the difference in styles? And, since this is an overall vote, is Punk anywhere near the mic worker or showman that Savage was? Last, but not least, could Punk have cut one of the best rap albums of our gen...ok, that one's a stretch. But seriously, Savage was incredible and way underrated. Punk is very good, but he's got a long way to go to ever touch Randy Savage as a wrestler.

Xerzes 02-10-2009 03:20 AM

Be a man!

Ruien 02-10-2009 04:54 AM

Ehhh, I wanted to vote for Randy but something made me click CM Punk's name.

The Mackem 02-10-2009 07:39 AM

Just have better memories of Savage.

DaveBrawl 02-10-2009 08:51 AM

Macho Man.

Anybody Thrilla 02-10-2009 02:03 PM

If you voted for Punk here, you fucking suck.

The Macho Man will continue to get my vote straight to the Hall of Fame. BE A MAN, PUNK!

Anybody Thrilla 02-10-2009 02:06 PM

And who was that talking about Punk's feuds being better? That is ridiculous. From Flair, to Hogan, to The Ultimate Warrior, to Jake Roberts, to Crush (:shifty:), Randy was just fantastic in feuds. He was effective as both a heel and a face, and he was ulrta talented in the ring.

Obviously I'm not going to count his WCW run, because at the time, it was where careers went to retire. He was just collecting (a ridiculous) paycheck at the time.

MACHO MAN FOREVER!

BigDaddyCool 02-10-2009 02:10 PM

Punk is ok. Savage is a legend.

Yeah, that was me. I was just jesting. I voted Savage obviously, because I am over 20.

Seriously, Punk is the new IWC's wet dream from what I can tell from this. But why? He is the most dullard character on Raw and his move set since coming to WWE is wank. Generic wrestler with a knee. That shit isn't more entertaining than what Savage brought to the table. One is called Savage and one is called Punk for a very good reason.

Wish I'd have said that.

Juan 02-10-2009 07:56 PM

Punk is one of the best wrestlers on Raw.

Fabien Barthez 02-10-2009 08:01 PM

Wow. One of the best, out of the 17 guys on the Raw roster. He must lay awake at night with how giddy such a notion must make him.

Anybody Thrilla 02-10-2009 08:05 PM

Juan better be joking. I mean, he's not wrong, but that's nowhere near enough to make him better than The Macho Man.

I know, I voted for Macho Man. But I don't think he's as bad as Fabien is making him out to be. Punk is one of the top wrestlers in the company right now.

and this is coming from someone who didn't masturbate to Punk's ROH work.

Jeritron 02-10-2009 08:28 PM

I think people tend to forget just how good Macho Man was. Their perception of him is clouded by Slim Jim commercials, cartoon like stature, and his WCW days. In his prime, Randy Savage was incredible. He paved the way for guys like CM Punk.

ron the dial 02-10-2009 08:30 PM

but don't the things that "cloud our perception" count toward his legacy, too? just because it sucked doesn't mean that it's excused. just asking.

Fabien Barthez 02-10-2009 08:32 PM

Well, I don't have Punk in the top 10 in the world, right now or any time since his debut, but I put Savage in the top 10 of all time.

He is an excellent worker, but his matches in ROH vs his matches in the E? not even comparible. Obviously he is restricted by TV time, card positioning and all of that, but how can he go from the work he did with Joe and Colt cobana, then go to OVW, and then get even more training from the Brits, whilst on the road, and somehow wind up with a moveset that makes him look very average? In-ring is the only place he has any chance of beating Savage, because Look, Charisma, Stickwork, over with the crowd, infamous matches and fueds all go to the Macho Man.

And in fact, fuck TV time limits as an excuse. RVD used to come out and light up the ring for 5 minutes at a time on WWE TV every week.

I wouldn't put this much into talking about why Mark Henry shouldn't win, because the skills and potential aren't there to make it an interesting match up, but Punk can and should be showing better quality accross the board now he has finally made it.

counting as legitimate factors, and allowing them to overshadow your positive feelings aren't the same thing.

You can judge it on anything you want. If that's what defines Savage to somebody, then that's how it is. It's their vote to cast. I'm simply stating that I think a lot of people are oblivious to, or have forgetten, the fact that Randy Savage was a 5 star wrestler in his day. He was also one of the first athletic, smaller, high flying wrestlers to ever break the glass ceiling and become elevated to superstar/main event status based on how over he was. Guys like Shawn, Jericho, and even CM Punk would later do the same.

Fabien Barthez 02-10-2009 08:40 PM

They put the title on him for a year during the Hulkamania Boom.

Says it all for me.

Jeritron 02-10-2009 08:45 PM

He had a hell of a career. It came to a screeching hault in WCW, but at one point he was right alongside Hogan as the biggest name in pro-wrestling. He was comparable to The Rock in the Austin era.
WWE has chosen not to promote this legacy, but it was there. Everyone knew Macho Man, not just wrestling fans.
I personally think it's a shame that the Macho Man doesn't get the credit he deserves. He had an incredible career though.

timmar 02-10-2009 08:47 PM
