Well, I've got a PSP (new 3000 model, bitch) in the mail with Chains of Olympus not far behind and a nice little collection of games (Jeanne D'Arc, Vice City Stories, Crisis Core FF Tactics) already here, and my brother is getting a PS3 this week, so things are shaping up nicely in my immediate gaming future.

You guys are a little delusional.

I have seen nothing from this game that makes me want a PS3 any more. I mean there hasn't been enough video of it to make any judgment on it at this point.

I mean sure the series is great...I've played all three games. But I want to see something new. Something...anything.

This is not a console seller, but it is going to be amazing nonetheless.

Half the reasons I wanted a PS3 were announced as multiplatform later on. I'll probably grab one way later on.

I don't think I can remember the last time a game trailer made me excited for a game. I mean sure it uses the in-game engine, but its still showcasing the <u>same</u> <u>game</u>. Gameplay footage would appease me better.

And it is the end of the trilogy, yes...so I will give it some slack. But I still want some evolution of gameplay somewhere.

Ya know... switching up the gamplay isn't always the right thing to do. Something sticking with what works and pumping it full of next-gen power while tweaking what was weak in the past is all you need. I'm not saying release the same game, but DMC4 is largely unchanged from DMC3 save for about three mechanics that alter gameplay. Even then it pretty much plays a lot like part 3, and I could care less because it's an awesome engine to begin with. Sometimes an update is good enough, and people need to stop expecting the second coming with these franchises.

It's actually very rare to see a jump like RE: Zero to RE4.

I'm not saying change the gameplay. I'm saying evolve it. Resident Evil is the perfect example. It's still by and large the same game...they just made a refreshing version. I had no problem converting to RE4 from the others (I just played RE3, RE: CVX, and RE4 back-to-back-to-back). It felt like the series always had, which was nice.

I think God of War will possibly achieve some of this with what they have discussed as a big change in the game: the amount of enemies, and how you fight them all rather than focusing on one or two enemies only to have an occasional attack hit others around as well. If they achieve stuff like what was in the trailer (the whole ram into tons of enemies only to break out of the pile), I will be somewhat appeased. New weapons will not do it for me, not unless the weapons bring a greater sense of strategy to the game. But that's getting a little too hopeful. This game isn't much about strategy. I mean sure some creatures are better fought with some weapons or attacks, but by and large you can get through the game without much bothering with what weapon you are using.

GoW is a great game series, but I always found it overrated.

It happened with the first two. The hype hit me, and then when I picked it up, I was underwhelmed. I think this will be good, but I see the same thing happening.

Given how long they had to make this thing, there should be some welcome revisions. And the dog pile thing would be a great effect during battle. They keep throwing 'Scale' around as a key term so I guess changes will be related to that.

Study beats hype 100% of the time, but you knew that, did you?

I'm horrible at checking out games before I buy them, because I tend to be cheap. Even so, after doing my research before buying, I was still underwhelmed after I played the final result. Not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, but this one just seems majorly overhyped for what it is.

But...this one may make me change my mind. We'll see though.

It looks like GoW3 will be more of the same, just pumped with flash and some gameplay tweaks for tone and scale.

If this debuted on PS3, you could view the hype as suspect, but it came out on a console with a lot of great games on it prior. I'm not a big fan of GoW (don't dig the aesthetic) but it's a well put together game. Just not my cup of tea.

get the god of war pack that's been remastered for the ps3, that will put you up to date. I haven't played the second one, but I beat the first one.

I assume it will be.

well, ive held onto my ps3 for a reason, spose this is it. On the other hand, so many freakin' games have come out that it lets me occupy my time long enough to see this bad boy drop down in price before i pick it up.

I really didnt wanna pick this up at full price thanks to the fact that other games were beaten in a day or two. Thankfully I saw that deal at Blockbuster and traded in 2 games that Gamestop was offereing me $10 a piece for and got the game for $9.99. Now I just have to wake up in time to pick up my copy before work.

Dare you to try beating GoW2 on Titan mode in a day or two.

Beat it on the 1st day i rented it, i started at 5 o clock and beat at 3 o clock in the morning it's totally badass.

Yeah, beat this in a couple nights on Titan (hard) with a friend. Awesome game.

Just getting this game in mail now G, but GOW 1 & 2 are reason I bought my PS3. Well that and Blu Ray. I loved those 2 games so much that wanted to play the 3rd. I think you should enjoy it a lot, kind of should have played them first to fully appreciate it probably. But def some epic stuff going on in both.

Yeah just read up on GOW 1 and 2 to refresh my memory of what happened for 3. Like they both are recognized as two of best games for PS2, so def should get them.

Can anybody who has played this game confirm the bad ass graphics that they claim to have? So far I think Metal Gear Solid 4 has the best in game graphics I have seen this generation on any of the consoles. But I've read a couple of reviews saying GOW 3 has the best graphics yet. I'm def. getting this game this week, I've put it off long enough.

GoW3 isn't the best anything.

Disagreements with it's engine and presentation, other than that I think it's a fine fighting game. Something about the fans of the series urks me but that's no fault of the game.

Bayonetta and Devil May Cry don't have hadoukens, but I forgive them.

Except games are like are... how should I say....: Critically and commercially successful videogames. In this way many games I like are mostly games you like. But that;s obvious enough. The problem here is some of you find it appalling(?) that I didn't buy a ticket for the GoW3 hype train.

It doesn't impress in areas I need to be impressed. That's all.

Why does it not 'impress where you need to be impressed'? Like, what were you wanting from the game? It is just like the first two, but better in almost every way. So if you didn't like the first two.. why not?

God of War in general puts Bayonetta to shame, tbh.

I'm guessing your "that's precious" comment was implying that you think Bayonetta is the better game. But based on your complaints about GoW3, how on earth could you possibly like the tech behind Bayonetta more?

Stylishly it doesn't do it for me. While I understand over-the-top elements in games, the actual element may or may not attract. The large guns and heavily armored, square jawed soldiers in Gears of War turn me off similarly.

Wasn't being specific, I have no idea what you guys like or don't like. But some of us do like games some others don't. Should have phrased it better, sue me.

Never said it was bad. But the engine and presentation do turn me off, yes. But why is that an issue? I judge all games on a number of factors, its game engine and presentation being a couple of them. If they want my attention they have to adhere to my tastes. (And no, my tastes aren't end-all be-all)

I do believe Bayonetta is better, and while the mechanics are similar (inherently so, being that these are action games), they aren't the same. And there's things about Bayonetta's engine I believe are superior to GoW3's. Bayonetta's general style is closer to my personal tastes as well (though I find Devil May Cry to have the perfect blend of theme, style, and game).

Yeah, I find DMC to be a pretty craptastically overrated series, so I suppose we just want different things out of this genre.

Konami's entering the genre with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, it looks to meld the elements we value. Should be interesting.

At first, was like "Ok.. looks kinda boring.." at first, and then it snapped into the gameplay, and holy crap. I want it.

Yeah, God of War 3 sold so poorly and was hated by critics. :roll: Oh, and Dragon Age. Absolutely reviled. Hell, of all the games you've panned, the Dynasty Warriors series is the only one I can name that wasn't critically popular, and even those are commercially successful (Unless, of course, you believe you can get thirty seven iterations of the same game while being a commercial failure....).

I know you live in your own little world, but if you think my taste in music is a caricature of the pro-indie anti-mainstream, you either don't pay much attention or have no idea what "indie" and "mainstream" are. While I'm sure you can reconcile listening to multi-platinum artists with being an "indie" fan, that's only because you're "special."

I like the God of War series. Its pure fun, and im a sucker for anything Greek Mythology related. That being said, i feel DMC and Bayonetta arent that great for the same reason Kalyx says GoW isnt enjoyable to him...i feel they try to be too over the top with, well...everything.

It'd be funny if I was, given Tribe did exactly what you wish you could do...break into the gaming business and create something of a phenomenon. Interesting choice of bands to knock.

I'm mixed on DMC. I loved the idea of something of an atmospheric action title with somewhat pulpish sensibilities. Sure, it's Japanese, right down to the arcade style rating system, but it had a lot in common with pulp and noir style fiction, down to the main character owning a "detective" agency (auspietards, it's in quotes for a reason).

on the other hand, when I saw the intro on Unskippable, I laughed at how godawful it was. And that's not counting the comments from Graham and Paul. Of course, the fact that there's a Bishounen hero, big swords, etc., means that a lot of people enjoyed it for other reasons. Still, I can enjoy it, much like God of War, where I can play the game and like it, sans a massive hardon, "GOTY" spewing ot of my mouth every five seconds, and squealing like a little girl at the main character of my "preference."

I liked God of War because whenever something is done based on greek mythology, it's always a PG or PG-13 affair. Nothing that came out ever recognized the brutality and graphic nature of many of the stories.

God of War was the first to do that, to my knowledge.

Whereas DMC just feels like a pile of action movie/anime cliches. Still a fun game however.
