Hope it has a good career mode.
I quite enjoyed the career mode in Prizefighter, even if the rest of the game wasn't exactly brilliant, so wouldn't mind something similar. Minus the big hunk of cheesey story that is. WHAT?!
Fight Night 3 was amazing fun, but career mode was way too shallow.
I hope the game isn't a walking advertisment this time. But I have to say, Fight Night round 3 has had the most 2 player longevity out of any of my 360 games.
This post has been brought to you by the all new Dodge Ram.
Really hope this version's got a real story mode this time around. |

Nah, not Burger King. That fight they sponsor with Rey Mo is way too easy in round 3. Dude hits like a beast, but the chances of him landing a punch in that fight are ridiculously low.

Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson cover Fight Night Round 4
by Jason Dobson { 12 hours ago } http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...001xbox001.png http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...station001.png There will be plenty of butterfly floating and bee stinging in the ring this summer, as EA announced that Muhammad Ali will be one of two cover athletes for Fight Night Round 4. The boxing legend will share the space with powerhouse and controversy magnet Mike Tyson. We just hope Ali knows to duck out of the way should Tyson's eyes flash red before schooling "Iron Mike" in a lesson of sweet science. Both will be playable in the upcoming title, which is currently in development at EA Canada. Also, eager players who lay down a pre-order for Fight Night Round 4 at GameStop will net early access to the game's demo, giving them some extra time to live out pugilistic dreams before the rest of the world laces up. |
Cool. I always hated Tyson and can't wait to beat his ass. Just like I did with Little Mac back in the day.
I hope Tyson's illegal blow is the ear bite. :(
Awesome
Fight Night Vs. Def Jam: Super Deformed Clash should happen.
I'm super jacked about this game. When does it release?
The Fight Night games are usually released in February/March but since there's hardly any details released and it's March now, gotta be at least a few months. Says Summer 2009 on Wiki
Heard its going to be out around June time. Ign have post a video with "actual gameplay footage" trailer and it looks great. Really looking forward to this one. Read that they have completely taken out parries, and that the career mode consists of eight weights, and you get a chance to fight at selected weights, go up and down, unify titles etc. It also comes with career making decisions, on which pretty much everything depends on. Sounds quite interesting.
No parries? Boooo.

Suprised there is no Marciano as he's been in all the previous games, going back to the first Knockout Kings |
I can't wait for this game.
Just played the demo. It's good, don't know if I'll be buying this yet tho.
Was just gonna mention the demo being out. Gold only right now though. They always do this around E3.
Quote:
Most demo's are Gold exclusive for a few weeks. Not just around E3. I guess you would've known from the lot of demo's throughout this year, but your 360 was in MS Land. :p |
Yeah. :'(
Downloaded the demo the other day and I got to say, I'm actually rather disappointed with it. I dont like the controls at all and the graphics of the fighters almost look cartoonish. Was really looking forward to it but not so sure now.
Yeah looks like it's a step down form FNR3 graphics wise,
Gunna pick it up this weekend probly
Buy Ghostbusters instead
I'll be renting first.
I'm so disappointed with this demo.
First off, I never liked using the stick for punching in FN3, but once changed to the face buttons I was good to go. The camera angle is way more panned out, and takes away alot of the graphical detail quality from the last. It now looks like any other recent boxing game. FN3 seemed way ahead of its time, and it was the first thing I played on a 'next gen' console. I was totally blown away. But like a few of you have said, it seems to be a step back. Really don't think I'll be getting this, and I'll be sticking with UFC, which I ordered today. |
Did think you could change it to the face buttons on the demo? Or am i being a spaz and not realising your talking about FN3?
I can't believe they didn't keep the same control scheme. So pissed at that.
Went ahead and picked up PS3 version. This is a lot better then the demo.
It's got Game Face which is a plus. Also, you can download other peoples Boxer Creations. Got Rocky, Apollo Creed, Barack Obama, and SID! Plus, you can use these created boxers in Legacy mode as opponents and rank them in wherever you want. |
8.8 from IGN not bad, but not a huge improvement in the review from Rd.3, which recieved an 8.5 from them.:-\

Had the last few Fight Night's so I picked this up earlier, played the demo quite a bit but only had 3 fights on the full game. Liking it a lot, 1st fight as Calzaghe I got stopped in the 8th Round by Pavlik but that was down to not being used to the new way of getting up, 2nd fight I used a fucking awesome looking David Haye download to beat a great looking Vitali Klitschko download (commentators even call him Klitschko) on points, which I was happy about, didn't have many fights go the distance the whole time I had the last game. 3rd fight was as Tyson and fucking bombed some guy out in 2 rounds including my first flash knockdown for the win right at the start of the 2nd round. You have to fight 'smartly' this year and change your strategy at certain times in the fight, AI is much better. Along with how awesome create a fighter is this year with all the possible customization, I'm pretty happy I got it
Downloaded the Sid that DMac has too, pretty funny |

Not played Legacy yet but from what I gather from reading around and what I've played of the game, it all depends on how you fight. I got knocked out in my first fight as Calzaghe because I'd hurt Pavlik and was pushing for a KO and got caught flush and had nothing left stamina wise to prevent a knockdown.
In my 2nd fight, it went the distance because I was more conservative and won the fight by outboxing him and staying away from Klitschko's bombs. I put him down once in the forth and he put me down in the 12th but other than that, it was mainly about patience. I won like 8/9 out of the 12 rounds but Klitschko was only rated 79. Harder opponent and it'd have been much closer. 3rd fight was attack, attack, attack because Tyson is a BEAST and I was fighting against a middleweight. So overall I'd say the fights last longer as long as you aren't playing on amateur, are half decent and aren't throwing 100 haymakers per round. |
Fight Night Round 4 might get button mapping via DLC
by Griffin McElroy { 5 minutes ago } http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...001xbox001.png http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...station001.png Okay, we're going to have to step very lightly here to avoid inciting a full-on boycott/panic/riot. A subtle piece of information slipped under the radar during a mid-June IGN interview with Fight Night Round 4's producers. The tidbit came in response to a query which asked whether the game would allow face button punching controls (it doesn't) -- a query which producer Brian Hayes answered with, "there is no option for face button punching in the final version, but we are investigating providing the option via DLC." Now, we're somewhat confused as to why the button-mapping options featured in previous Fight Night titles aren't already present in the most recent iteration of the sweetly scientific sim -- not everyone appreciates the stick-based punching control scheme. More importantly, if the folks at EA Sports are thinking about charging for this option -- and we're not saying they definitely are -- then they are high on pot. We've contacted EA Sports to find out what the deal is. |
Them announcing face button punching for free DLC could result in me getting this

I'd rather use the stick.
Using face buttons is stupid
Tried my first online match today and stunned him a couple of times, but he kept hitting my body and keeping my stamina down, then wore me down enough for a knockout. :n:
That's ridiculous. There's no excuse not to put button mapping in the final version, free DLC or otherwise.

Nah, some good created versions around though
This game is a hell of a lot more technical than FN3, no easy knockouts in this one really.

Fight Night Round 4 Button Controlled Punching Coming September
Written Tuesday, July 07, 2009 by Dan Webb Kotaku are reporting that EA will be releasing their button mapped punching controls for their well received Fight Night Round 4, this coming September. One of our few complaints about the hugely impressive Fight Night Round 4 was the inability to choose to control the punching mechanism with the face buttons but thankfully they are looking to rectify that now. "We strongly believe that the refined Total Punch Control is the most intuitive way to throw punches in Fight Night Round 4," the game's senior producer, Dean Richards, stated, "but we also want fans of the franchise to have an option." For all those cynics out there who doubted otherwise, the downloadable content (I suppose it's more of a patch) will be free to download as well. In addition to the September button mapping content, EA also announced that there will be another free update this coming August. The August content is set to feature a new gym, "new gameplay sliders" and new gear with an alternate version of Sugar Ray Leonard coming exclusively to the Xbox 360. I have a feeling that EA may see a slight boost in sales for the title this coming September. Free content is always welcomed, right? http://www.xbox360achievements.org/n...September.html |
Well I finally caved in and got this, liking what I've played so far. Only had a couple of fights but slowly getting used to the stick. About to start a career so hopefully I wont get my ass handed to me too much.
I can't see why anyone would want to use face buttons over the stick. If you want to use face buttons its probably because you're inept with the stick.
I don't know to be honest. I just wasn't keen on the stick with FN3, and always chose the face buttons by default. I guess because thats what I'm used to with fighting games.
But now I have UFC, I'm forced to use different combinations on the stick for grappling etc. So perhaps I'll give FN4 another try with the stick. |
Well, I just can't envision how it would work with face buttons plus needing the buttons for the modifiers (leaning, blocking & haymakers.)
The sticks really give you great control. I was a little rusty at first but I love the control system. |
Hmm, I'll re-download the demo later and give it a couple more attepts. I feel that my one match - one loss wasn't a very fair judgement.... :shifty:

Glitch?
Is there some sort of glitch in the game or something, because I was playing last night on 360 and I was in a legacy mode match-up and fighting, and all of a sudden, when my boxer (Tyson) was supposed to go down from a knockdown, instead of the usual animation the screen went wacky and jerked around at 134568790897887679367967097097508670850 fps for like 10 sec.'s before going back to normal...
Dunno about general game glitches, but some of the fight now achievements are glitched. I unlocked win 10 and 50 matches after only doing 3 :S

Set the round to 1, mess with the sliders, go to decision for the harder achievements.
I have glitches in legacy where creates boxers' pictures don't show up in the menu screen. Or sometimes its a blurry pixelated image. |
The GOAT somes are quite easy really, just create a boxer with 100 for each hand and stamina, then just use the remaining points on movement and heart/chin etc. Against Tyson you need to box on the outside and keep out of his reach, and with Ali you do the opposite, get right up close and try and corner him and just go nuts on him, but watch for counters.
You can mess with the sliders aswell if you wish, but I feel thats rather cheap imo :o |
