As long as they have something more than bullet time this time, bring it on.

Disturbed316 03-25-2009 07:39 AM

Loved the first two games, cannot remember how it all ended though.

That's a terrible idea, G.

Now I'm no kalyx or Hasney when it comes to caring about gaming but I was pretty pissed when Wahlberg was cast in the film. HATE Wahlberg, LOVE Max Payne. I didn't see the movie but I'm glad that it won't be the last thing 'Max Payne' related

D Mac 03-26-2009 01:57 AM

Hopefully they'll have that same guy that voiced the other games.

Kane86 04-01-2009 01:35 PM

I like the last 2 games but there was way too much dialouge in Max Payne 2. I don't like playing a game were every 2 steps you take there is a cut scene it gets annoying fast.

MAX PAYNE 3 OLD DEMONS... ...NEW BEGINNINGS

Playstation 3 | XBOX 360 | PC
> Style 1-Player Action (Multiplayer TBA)
> Publisher Rockstar Games
> Developer Rockstar Vancouver
> Release Winter

What does it feel like to lose everything? Most of us will never know.
But what would you do if you lost your job? Your true love? Your sanity?
Your reasons for living? Rockstar's long-missing noir hero, Max Payne, knows the answer to these questions.
Max has been absent from the video game landscape since the 2003
release of Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. The long-awaited Max Payne 3 features a hero much different than the handsome character
we once knew. This new Max is older and harder, marked with the scars
of his fall to the bottom. While he's still very much a violent man of action,
the world around him has moved on and so has he. What would a man with nothing left to lose do to get one more chance at the good life? This question will ultimately be answered in Rockstar's next epic adventure.

THE THIRD ACT
If you want to know how much has changed in the world of Max Payne, look no further than the cover of the magazine you're reading (GameInformer). The bald, bearded man on the cover bears little resemblance to the character we followed through two successful games. He's aged considerably since the tragic events of Max Payne 2, with a scarred face and thicker build. If not for the logo on the cover, it would be hard to recognize Max at all. Clearly, Rockstar Games, which is developing the game in-house for the first time since purchasing the rights from series creator Remedy, is not averse to taking chances with the franchise.
"It's a tricky thing, because you're taking this beloved franchise that we didn't do originally," comments Rockstar art director Rob
Nelson. "You have to maintain the elements of it that are special and that people remember, but you also have to evolve. We're not Remedy, but we have a lot of respect for what they did. We're definitely looking back and trying to maintain every element that clicked with people eight or nine years ago and make it have the same impact now."
It's a difficult balancing act. How do you create a game that both respects the history of the franchise and creates a world that feels fresh to gamers in 2009?
"We're used to having franchises that people expect a lot from and we have a lot of pressure attached to them," Nelson says. "We've learned to go with our gut and trust our instincts. ...we wanted to challenge ourselves."
At Rockstar's headquarters in New York, located in the hip SoHo district, we witnessed a world-exclusive first look at the game in action. If you expected a by-the-numbers sequel, prepare to be surprised. The third chapter of the Max Payne saga takes our hero places that he's never gone before, while at the same time keeping an eye towards maintaining and improving the stylish gunplay that made his reputation. Like most Rockstar games, it's clearly a labor of love (and a little bit of mania).

P.S. - Had to type all that from my advance subscribed copy of the mag. They should be putting up the article on their site sometime tomorrow.

A leaked teaser trailer. It says "Coming Winter 2009" even though MP3 isn't out until 2010. I'm guessing the change in release date may be why the teaser was never released.

Finally, some concrete details about Rockstar Games' plans for Max Payne 3 are emerging, thanks to the latest issue of Edge magazine, which may make Max fans feel less uneasy about the change in direction for the decade-old series.

According to the cover story preview in Edge, Max Payne has left the New York City police department to focus on a career in private security, according to Scrawl's recount of the article. Max Payne 3 is reportedly set eight years after the events of the previous game, but Rockstar says it's "always playing with time in the story."

The return of Max Payne's "classic narration" will likely help make better sense of the game's time-bending plot. It appears that the comic book panel cut scenes will be swapped out for something more cinematic, with Rockstar "integrating storytelling into the gameplay itself through the use of hundreds of customized animations."

Rockstar Vancouver will also be playing with Max's 'do. He'll sport a full head of hair at some point in the game, but will lose those slicked back locks to become the bald, paunchy Max Payne we've seen in earlier previews.

Expect other well-known Max-isms to return, with bullet time gunplay, lots of shooting and bullet dodging, and Max's original voice actor (James McCaffrey) reprising his role.

Max Payne 3 will also reportedly use NaturalMotion's Euphoria technology, the same physics engine that powered Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption's animation.

More details in the latest issue of Edge magazine, due out April 12.

Based on first impressions with the latest demo from both Giant Bomb and Kotaku, the game plays just like previous Max Payne games to get rid of people worried the game could be completely different due to the new developers.

The game doesn't completely get rid of the New York City setting from previous games since it was confirmed at least the initial part of the story and gameplay takes place in the city.

Biggest changes are Max can only carry 2-3 weapons at a time instead of every gun possible in the game. Also shown was now when Max is about to die and an enemy is nearby, he gets a final shot that if it connects will restore some health back.

The pre-order gift at Gamestop is early access to the Cemetery multiplayer map which won't be available to everyone else until March 2012.

The cemetery map also contains the graves of Max's former wife and child who got killed off in the first game.

Rockstar released the entire list of DLC packs for the next couple of months.

Quote:

Seven packs will be made available throughout 2012 starting with the Local Justice pack in June. This will include the Police Precinct multiplayer map, two unnamed maps, police themed avatar items and multiplayer challenges.

This summer the Dis-organised Crime Map Pack, Deathmatch Made In Heaven Mode Pack, Hostage Negotiation Map Pack and New York Minute Co-Op Pack will all be released.

Due this Fall are the Painful Memories Map Pack and Trickle Down Economics Map Pack.

You can receive all of this content at a discounted price by purchasing the Max Payne 3 Rockstar DLC Pass for 2400 Microsoft Points or $29.99, there is no word of a PC version.

1 piece of good and 1 piece of bad news.

First the good news is Rockstar revealed details in regards to the game's arcade mode.
Quote:

“Max Payne 3′s Arcade Modes bring intense bonus shootout challenges to the single-player game experience,” the publisher says. ”In addition to the thrill of besting your own top scores (and the scores of all your Friends and Crew members at the new Social Club), high scores also reward you exclusive multiplayer avatars and XP benefits.”

The two modes:

* Score Attack - After you’ve completed any single-player level, you’ll be able to replay it in Score Attack mode, where you gun for the highest score possible – acquiring points for each shot that hits its mark and each adversary you vanquish

* New York Minute - This fan-favorite bonus mode from Max Payne and Max Payne 2 returns as a frantic battle that puts one minute on the clock and awards you with additional time for each enemy that you kill
http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...odes-detailed/

Now for the bad news. Anyone who rents games from RedBox services do not rent the Xbox 360 version since its a 2 disc game and RedBox is only having the first disc be available to rent which only contains the single player campaign. The second disc which contains the multiplayer will not be available to rent.

It needs to be 5 characters long. I know, I tried that first.

Maybe TPWWF or TPWWForums or TPWW_Forums or something?

Because the top ten lists of sales comes out on Monday. That would mean that Tuesday is the first day of the selling week. Tuesday is the day that new stuff comes out. It gives them a week of numbers to track the sales.

When I used to work at a blockbuster we would get games and movies on the Friday before. So, we could all watch and play them ahead of time so we knew about the movies to talk to customers about it.

It's also because movies come out on tuesdays as to not conflict with Friday theater released. Games just adopted the tradition.

You actually have the rest of your entire natural life to play them

And someone just spoiled the ending to this game for me....

Drakul 05-14-2012 04:43 PM

I hate it when that happens. Was it spoiled by someone online? If so, where? I'll have to avoid that place, if I normally go there.

Drakul 05-14-2012 04:44 PM

I still can't believe Gametrailers.com ruined the twist in Bionic Commando in the bloody review!

Yep, by some random taint at xbox360achievements.org. What kills me is that he posted it in an article about BF3.

Drakul 05-14-2012 05:21 PM

That's how I had RDR spoiled for me. I was reading the LA Noire thread here and someone randomly said "...such and such happens in RDR". No warnings or anything.

No one ever spoils a sucky games ending. No one ever says "And then *whatever* happens at the end of Vampire Rain*" It's always a game you are wanting to play yourself that people seem to spoil.

*I say Vampire Rain because I saw it had a low score on the 360 dashboard when I was looking through the list of games on XBLA. No idea if it sucks or not.

Ermaximus 05-14-2012 05:35 PM

Vampire Rain is terrible. Worst MP I've seen. The story is also stupidly hard. Vampires kill you in 1 hit and your weapons do shit against them.

Drakul 05-14-2012 05:40 PM

Yet no one has ever spoiled the ending. Probably because no one played it, I guess.

Ermaximus 05-14-2012 05:51 PM

Apparently only 8 people have even beaten the campaign. Half of them are Japanese. You do the math.

Drakul 05-14-2012 06:11 PM

Sounds like a challenge.

I think you're being a little picky with the RDR 'spoiler'. I was the one that posted it (in spoilers, mind you). At that point, Red Dead had already been out for a year.

There's a limit for how long spoilers have to be hush-hush for, and I think a year is definitely past that.

More importantly, I'm extremely excited to get Max Payne tonight.

Drakul 05-15-2012 02:46 AM

I wasn't mad or anything with you. I knew it wasn't done to purposefully spoil it or anything. It just sucked that it was unmarked.

I think a spoiler should be marked a little longer than a year. Not everyone buys a game on release and finishes the story in a few days or weeks.

I've seen a GTA forum where they still mark for spoilers when discussing the ending to San Andreas. That may be a bit much but it has the right idea that some people might not be there yet.

I think spoilers should be marked for 2 or 3 years if they are the games ending or a huge twist. If it's something a little smaller like a unlockable mode, weapon, vehicle or something, yeah, a year seems fine.

Went to a midnight release for this and Diablo 3....out of 100 or so people in line, only 2 got Max Payne. They looked like the felt out of place lol.

Either way, looks like a good game, I'll pick it up when I get off my PC in like 4 months.

Btw, name the social club TPDub

#BROKEN Hasney 05-15-2012 03:19 AM

Got it wrong, it's 6 characters.

http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/crew/tpdubya

May as well join even if you're not getting this as it carries over to GTA5.

Drakul 05-15-2012 03:32 AM

Is it one crew per player? Or could I join a TPWW crew and then a Dundee crew, then a Zangief crew and so on?

#BROKEN Hasney 05-15-2012 03:35 AM

You can be in multiple. I'm in the Destructoid one too.

RP 05-15-2012 03:38 AM

I joined. Getting Max Pain tommorow.

what is this for anyways?

Drakul 05-15-2012 03:39 AM

Cool. I've no plans to be in more than one but I can see TPWW having smaller groups break away from it. I can pretty much guarantee Kalyx will start up one at some stage.

Someone should found a Chuckle Brothers crew.
