Former ECW World champion and long-time WWE announcer Tazz left World Wrestling Entertainment last night after calling the matches for this Friday's edition of Smackdown. He is now officially done with the company as his WWE contract expires today.

Did not see that one coming, especially with Mania this weekend. Huge shake-up in the SmackDown! booth.

TBH, that sucks...I've always enjoyed Tazz on commentary.

Saying I'm surprised is an under statement. JBL going back to the booth is probably the best option, but I don't think he'll mesh well with JR as he did with Cole. Hopefully the Draft will fix that.

I hope Tazz left on good terms so that he can still make an occassional appearance.

What is that legit? How sudden is that. I'm glad JBL can get back at the table now but what the hell are they gonna do on Sunday? Weird.

Will Striker get the nod at mania? I hope so.

Maybe that's JBL's history making moment? He'll be doing commentary and competing? I dunno.

Well there's no fully ECW matches, so I doubt the ECW team will even be on the show. That would make it quite easy to just insert Striker in there for Tazz.

They probably would have brought Grishiam and Striker in to help with MITB, but now they can just go with JR, Cole, King, Striker.

Then JBL can take the spot in a couple weeks.

This is fairly shocking, I'm surprised he didn't want to stick around for Mania, since that is usually a big check. He was a decent announcer, but as long as JBL returns, then Im all for it. Maybe they will use Joey Styles with JR then for the SD matches.

Striker and JR go well together. That ECW episode they did together was very entertaining.

They’ll just have King, JR, and Cole do the whole show.

JR did really good with Striker. Striker kind of reminded me of a combination Gordon Solie/vintage (pays $500 to Cole) JR. JR seemed to take him under his wing on commentary, and he was able to roll with Striker's wrestling geek-dom.

I want JR and JBL because JR is guaranteed to look like a total ass. :y:

I don't blame Tazz for leaving/ feeling 'burnt out', given the way the shows have been lately.

I'd still do with Piper or Santino for a few months.

Also, maybe he's just pissed off with Vince bombing down his ear. I would of thought many people in the business would <3 to do WM. I know he has before, but leaving what 6 days away from WM is a bit weird.

I am really surprised they didn't have Jericho "put him on the shelf" on SD! Saying He is an ECW legend or something like that. Or just kick his ass at WM.

I am going to miss Tazz, but I am very excited for JBL to return to the announcers table. Maybe they can now move JR back to Raw and Cole to SD and JBL can carry Cole again.

Say that WWE stays with a 3-man booth for WM - King, Cole, and JR. Someone sits in with JR for the 4/10 SD!. At the draft, could we actually see Josh Matthews get a commentating job on one of the shows?

There is no way he left 6 days before WrestleMania, if anything, he will retire for JBL to take his spot.

Last night Tazz said good-bye to Shane and Stephanie McMahon, but is not known if he had a final meeting with Vince McMahon. Tazz’s contract does expire at the end of the day, and he was not released. Wow, this was a bit of a surprise. I like Tazz and all, but I am more interested to see what the WWE does with the commentary teams than upset Tazz is leaving. After all, it appears to be his choice.

JBL should definitely return to the booth, but I don't want to see JBL and JR as a tandem. That'd be way too redneck for my tastes. JBL should work with Michael Cole again. Give those two RAW to play with. Cole was much better with JBL than Jerry Lawler. I actually think the WWE will put JR with King again, but I'd rather see Matt Striker move up to replace Tazz, as they would make a really good team.

With WWE Superstars making a comeback, there are pretty much eight conventional slots for commentary. Right now the WWE has got Michael Cole, Jim Ross and Todd Grisham as play-by-play guys, which leaves the window open for one to get called up, whereas Jerry Lawler and Matt Striker are their color guys, which leaves room for two.

Also, I'm still thinking there may be a last minute ECW Title match added to the show. Todd Grisham & Matt Striker would call that. But aside from that, Matt Striker could very easily do SmackDown! color commentary for the event.

I hope they dont move Striker to SD...Id have nothing to look forward to on ECW.

I do however wholeheartedly endorse Tazz going to ROH and replacing Mike Hodgwood on the HDNet Show.

It sounds like Tazz's standing with the company is still pretty good. If he holds off on signing with TNA or ROH, he could get another job with the WWE one day soon. Maybe he can take the time off, get his back fixed, and actually make something resembling a return -- if just for a nostalgia run?
