They need to sort out the xbox live part of it for Europe the cunts, I'd happily pay a fee for unlimited movies streamed on my xbox.

Ogen 04-02-2009 05:40 PM

Have used a similar service here but I always forget to send things back/take ages to watch them so it becomes pointless.

Ogen 04-02-2009 05:40 PM

The last one I used I wasn't arsed finding the dvds to send back so ended up ringing the bank and cancelling the card I used since I was broke and didn't need a card for a few weeks. probably still looking for money off me

G 04-02-2009 05:45 PM

Had Netflix for awhile. Loved it. Made me lots of $$$ selling copied movies. Switched to Blockbuster Online so I could also get in store rentals along with 1 free game rental each month. They then dropped the free game rental, upped the monthly price and cut my plan down as well. I dropped Blockbuster and then tried Netflix again because they started the 360 streaming shit. My connection was too slow and it took like 10 minutes for it to start and the picture was extremely grainy. I canceled my trial.

The Genius 04-03-2009 01:25 AM

netflix thru my 360 is grainy too.

D Mac 04-03-2009 03:48 AM

It's your internet service provider then, because mine is DVD quality.

It's much more limited than the DVD service. I mean, I'm not complaining, but I use online to supplement my mail service. the digital service sometimes has problems, and on top of that, the selection is limited.

Not to mention my biggest gripe, some series are only partially available on instant.

I queued up Roar a while back, because it was recommending me Heath Ledger stuff and I was curious. Then I saw it was available for Instant, so I signed up. And then like half the episodes are "on disc only."

Okay, so not so bad, since I was only casually interested. Then I watch the first 12 eps of "Dead Like Me" and find out the last two eps of season 1 are disc only.

But there's still a ton of stuff to watch on there.

And for the quality issues, D-Mac's right as far as I can tell. Even when it's pulling the "your connection's slowed" on me, I'm getting DVD quality. I'm watching the Office (US version) in HD right now, and the picture's significantly better than broadcast HD. It's not QUITE BD quality, but it's still solid.

Ogen 04-05-2009 05:50 PM

Ah thought you had access to everything in the library, not that it matters licencsing issues make it unlikely to be seen at all here.

The Gold Standard 04-05-2009 06:05 PM

I love netflix. It is one of the greatest things ever.

thedamndest 04-05-2009 11:14 PM

I watch whatever justintv tells me to watch.

D Mac 04-14-2009 07:16 PM

Trying out this PlayOn Media Server that can stream Netflix to the PS3. Haven't had any problems with buffering or freezing, but the program costs 40 bucks.

Ogen 04-14-2009 07:21 PM

Tversity should be able to do the same thing for free.

PapaGeorgio 04-14-2009 07:39 PM

Ended up putting my netflix on hold for time being. Feel like all I do is watch tv these days. Seeing as I have my regular shows, I download stuff, and had 3 netflix dvds coming all the time it was brutal. Half the time it seeme dlike I was forcing myself to watch the things I rent. Dunno, we'll see how it goes, it's only on hold.

thedamndest 04-14-2009 08:00 PM

Allow justintv to tell you what to watch.

D Mac 04-14-2009 08:02 PM

justintv is poor quality.

D Mac 11-23-2010 06:01 AM

Netflix has a $7.99 instant watch only plan now. Will be switching to this, since I have the Blu Ray plan and it's going up another buck, and they have that 30 day waiting on new Blu Rays bullshit. I just download Blu Ray rips to my PS3 now anyway with the occasional buy.

Fignuts 11-23-2010 12:56 PM

Been watching Invader Zim. Awesome stuff.

Schlomey 11-23-2010 05:07 PM

got an email they are raising my price a dollar.

Eklipse 11-23-2010 05:09 PM

Dont really use the que too much. Mostly use the instant streaming.

Loose Cannon 11-23-2010 05:14 PM

just ordered my LG Wireless BluRAY yesterday. can't wait to get Netflix now.

Xero 11-23-2010 05:31 PM

I use mainly streaming but I like knowing the disc option is there. Usually the discs sit there for weeks untouched, but when I want to go through a TV series or see a movie that isn't on the streaming service it's nice to have.

Fignuts 11-23-2010 09:16 PM

I have like 120 things in my que. Always end up adding more than I watch.

D Mac 11-24-2010 05:19 AM

It's a rumor, but I read somewhere that they might be phasing out the DVD by mail alltogether and just be a streaming service.

The Jayman 11-24-2010 08:56 AM

That has been a rumor for a long time now. I think eventually they will go full streaming but not anytime soon

Xero 11-24-2010 10:36 PM

They'll go 100% streaming when they can get the vast majority of their catalog on it, which they aren't even close to yet.

Kane Knight 11-27-2010 02:09 AM

They've implied that as their eventual goal, and now everyone is acting like it's going to happen next Thursday.

I don't mind the concept, but if they do this, they need to have a bigger library and stop with the bullshit of pulling series. I assume it has to do with licensing, but if they insist on going digital, they need to make the content available.

If they had a larger selection, I probably would never use the DVD service anyway.

Poit 11-30-2010 01:18 AM

I recently added the entire series of Doctor Who to my queue. It's gonna take a while to go through over 100 DVDs...

D Mac 12-01-2010 01:45 AM

Got a free week trial of Hulu Plus and it sucks. Basically the same shows that are on Netflix and they STILL have commercials in them. :n:

DrA 12-01-2010 02:26 AM

I prefer getting the DVDs in the mail to streaming the movie right away. It makes me feel like I've earned it.

Joe Kerr 12-04-2010 08:02 PM

Watching the Tick

DrA 12-04-2010 08:58 PM

The cartoon or the live action version?

Joe Kerr 12-05-2010 03:06 AM

the live 2001 with the guy from lost and the guy that does Joe swansons voice on family guy. It has the full first (and i think only) season. I never knew there was a live action I only knew of the cartoon so im pretty stoked to watch the season.

Schlomey 12-09-2010 11:43 AM

Is there a website that gives a list of what is to come up soon on the instant streaming?

Next Big Thing 02-12-2011 08:31 PM

Okay Netflix is the Shit

I always thought it was dumb as hell to pay for access to tv shows/ movies when they could be had from sites like hulu or torrent sites, but after getting blazed and being able to watch Season 1 of 30 Rock essentially on demand in HD, I'm a fan of the service.

Do you guys use Netflix often? Think it will be worth it in the long run?

Eklipse 02-12-2011 08:34 PM

Netflix instant stream is awesome. I have it both on my Samsung blu ray player and my PS3.

Watched every episode of "My Name Is Earl."

Working on "That 70's Show" now.

I love it.

Xero 02-12-2011 08:40 PM

Absolutely love it. It's on demand content done right. I've seriously not watched anything except RAW on TV for the past two weeks. Everything else has been Netflix.

Kind of expecting the price to go up, but not for a while. I also hope that the companies keep embracing it and don't force "tiers" onto Netflix or something, or just entirely take their libraries down from it because they see it as a threat. Though I don't see that being a huge problem for me, as the vast majority of what I watch is at least 5 years old, and by that time (5 years after it's aired/released, at least) the content is pretty much past its time of real revenue streams outside of DVD releases.

The one downside is that I'm paranoid that I'm going to cause a RROD to my 360 because it's on like 500% more than it had been in months (I tend to get into something on Netflix in cycles).

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-12-2011 08:57 PM

If they raise the price they should add video games.

Juan 02-12-2011 09:17 PM

Love Netflix. Signed up about 5 months ago and it's been smooth sailing ever since. I watch on my Xbox, iPod Touch and I'm hoping to get a Blu-Ray player with wi-fi to able to use there also.

Xero 02-12-2011 09:17 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if Netflix buys up Gamefly, or starts a competing business (with which they'd easily overtake Gamefly). But I'm talking strictly for streaming. Could easily see that going up to something like $20, and honestly it'd be worth it.

ClockShot 02-13-2011 07:38 AM

I love it, but was also "forced" to go with it. My local Blockbuster Video folded up and I wasn't gonna use Redbox. It pays off in the long run. I use my PS3 for instant viewing.

Evil Vito 02-13-2011 10:45 AM

My gf came over one night and we watched a movie through Netflix on my 360 via her dad's account. His account is now stored by default so I've been mooching ever since. :o

It's awesome. Since then I've watched both seasons of Blue Mountain State and the first six seasons of The Office. You go through them ridiculously fast.

Ha! That's exactly how I am. If it wasn't for sports I don't think I'd watch t.v. at all.

With all my favorite shows like House, Breaking Bad, Lost when it was on... I usually am so caught up in school/work that I miss the episodes when they originally air and end up catching bits and pieces via Hulu. With Netflix I can pretty much just take a weekend to chill and catch up. So refreshing.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-13-2011 11:52 AM

House is steaming now? Shit I wish I still had it right now.

Xero 02-13-2011 12:03 PM

Nah, think he meant on Hulu.

Xero 02-13-2011 12:06 PM

Honestly, though, there are only two things that I watch that aren't online (legally), either through Netflix, Hulu or some other site. Mythbusters and RAW. If it weren't for those two shows I honestly wouldn't have any need for cable.

Snowden 02-13-2011 12:16 PM

Netflix is absolutely amazing...

The problem for me is though, I use the streaming service so much that I rarely take advantage of the DVDs as much. I've had a movie sitting at my place since August from Netflix actually.

Xero 02-13-2011 12:32 PM

Yeah. The only reason I even have the 1 DVD at a time thing is just in case I want to watch something which isn't on streaming. And it's just a dollar more so it's more than worth it.

LuigiD 02-13-2011 01:13 PM

I caved in this year. Totally worth it.
Awesome selection of just about everything.

thedamndest 02-13-2011 01:29 PM

It's pretty good but they had a lot of stuff that I wanted to watch in the heat of the moment aka didn't want to wait for it to be mailed to me and didn't want to bother to torrent but all they had was the sequel to it.

BigDaddyCool 02-13-2011 03:25 PM

I have netflix streaming to my computer at work, my x-box, my wii, my ipod, my girlfriend's ipod, and her computer. So I have at least 5 devices hooked to my account for like $10 a month (prices just went up). So I get my moneys worth, great service. I don't even bother with cable.

Lock Jaw 02-13-2011 04:30 PM

How does this work? Doesn't it totally kill your bandwidth?

I believe ALL of the seasons of Saturday Night Live are on Netflix now.

D Mac 02-14-2011 01:50 PM

Also new are The Cosby Show, That 70's Show, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and Roseanne.

OssMan 03-12-2011 10:50 PM

Every single one of the "local favorites" for me is a Bollywood movie. I don't understand. Does every member of the semi-existent Indian population in my town constantly stream Netflix movies or something.

DaBrasko 03-14-2011 03:05 PM

I just watched an F'd up "documentary" called Paul McCartney is really dead: The last testament of George Harrison. Total bollocks but entertaining.

weather vane 03-14-2011 11:49 PM

Netflix is making me mad. Just trying it out for the first time and I tried to watch like 10 movies and none of them are on there...

Shutter Island
Robocop 2
Rounders
Batman
The Dark Knight
Inglorious Bastards
Mean Streets
Californication Seasons
The Color of Money

... I don't knowwwwwwww just bad luck I guess

OssMan 03-14-2011 11:59 PM

Shutter Island was on there like a month ago. Also most "big"/recent movies aren't either, like you are obviously not gonna find Star Wars on there.

Juan 03-15-2011 12:03 AM

All the Robocop movies are on there, m8.

Pretty sure the first season of Californication is on there too.

weather vane 03-15-2011 12:04 AM

Not for me....

DrA 03-15-2011 12:04 AM

Shutter Island, Batman, Robocop 2, Mean Streets, Californiacation are all on instant for me. It might be a regional thing. Thunder Bay might not be updated on their Netflix availability.

dronepool 03-15-2011 12:05 AM

It sounds pretty good, but I won't cave in yet. And why aren't 'big movies' on there? Isn't the point of Netflex being able to watch their huge library of movies on DVD. BR or streaming?

Loose Cannon 03-15-2011 12:09 AM

cave in? it's $10.

Maybe because of Canada or that I using a PS3?

D Mac 03-15-2011 01:11 AM

Probably Canada. Makes no difference what device you have.

Fignuts 03-15-2011 02:23 AM

It's Canada. They have a lot of limitations like that, such as no ESPN channel.

$8.99 if you stick to just streaming. Damn good deal

OssMan 03-15-2011 08:38 AM

The fact that Netflix offers a streaming-only option is proof that the terrorists have won

Jeritron 03-15-2011 03:33 PM

If you watch one movie on it a week, you're paying 2 bucks a rental. I would assume the average person is going to use it way more than that. Is the economy really that bad?

We have TSN which has all the hockey coverage I want and need.

Stickman 03-15-2011 04:10 PM

I'm pretty dissatisfied with what they have available. All new releases are like 5 years old. No 24, no sopranos, no dexter. I'm not really interested in shitty movies from the 90s so I'm going to cancel.

Splaya 03-15-2011 04:14 PM

What are you talking about no 24. I'm watching Season 3 Episode 9 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm right now

FearedSanctity 03-15-2011 04:53 PM

And I' pretty sure Dexter is on there too. It being on there is why my sister won't shut up about the fucking show

Maybe it's only available to U.S. customers.

OssMan 03-15-2011 05:32 PM

One time my friends and I had this discussion about TSN. We were like, we always see hockey highlights from TSN. What could it mean. And one guy was like oh, it has got to mean Toronto Sports Network because they always show the Leafs. And I was like noh man, they show like every Canadian team. Then my friend was so clever and was like it has to mean THE Sports Network and we all laughed hahahahaha funny. Then he looked it up and that is what it means :|

Being Canadian

Loose Cannon 03-15-2011 09:13 PM

lol Canada NETFLIX is horrible. yea, we get 24 and Dexter. HBO has not signed on, so don't expect Sopranos, Broadwalk Empire, Wire etc.....

Loose Cannon 03-15-2011 09:22 PM

not having the newest movies really doesn't bother me at all. there's a ton of shit on there (streaming) that I've never seen before. could be totally random stuff or popular movies from the 80's/90''s/2000's I've never seen.

dronepool 03-16-2011 01:46 PM

So I signed up, figured if I get annoyed I can always cancel. So how often do they update the movies/shows.. ect

Jeritron 03-16-2011 05:26 PM

Maybe monthly? Although most movies stay on there a lot longer than that.

It's some kind of rotation, but there is usually a new batch of stuff at least once a month.

Xero 03-16-2011 06:08 PM

The thing about the new releases not being on there, I think is more about the companies wanting to control their own content as long as they can. Recently they started or are going to start giving currently in theaters movies on PPV channels/On Deman for like $30. But even on Netflix, a lot of movies have a month wait between release and being available on DVD. Obviously to sell as many as they can.

As I've said before, I think we may see a "Premium" Netflix in the future where you get this whole back catalog, but also you can pay a premium either per title or per month to see more current releases, just when they're released.

Either way we will eventually see them, whether on Netflix or somewhere else online. It's going to happen.

weather vane 03-16-2011 06:40 PM
