CM Punk in the doghouse

:shifty:

Dave Youell 04-06-2009 04:15 AM

OMGZZZZ

I can't beleive how bad they are burying him...

Seriously though, don't think he'll win the title this time from it

Tazz Dan 04-06-2009 04:26 AM

Meh, me neither. As much as I would have loved to have seen a couple of the other guys winning, it was a nice swerve. Maybe they can book him properly this year instead of rushing him into what I'm sure was Jeff Hardys run last year.

Also have to mention my  for his Hart Foundation colours again......

I know, I know. :nono:

James Steele 04-06-2009 04:32 AM

If he goes to SmackDown! in the draft, CM Punk might have one hell of a year.

Tazz Dan 04-06-2009 04:43 AM

I think that would be a great move. Turn him heel and have him fued with Jeff Hardy for a few months

Juan 04-06-2009 04:46 AM

I was pleasantly surprised that Punk won. I had my money on MVP.

Good call

Was great seeing all those pepsi signs when he came out

Also, the crowd seemed to want Christian to win more than anyone else

YOU WATCHING VINCE!!!

Tazz Dan 04-06-2009 04:49 AM

Yeah. Christian seemed to get one of the biggest pops of the night it seemed, more-so than Punk. I guess that means he out popped DX also.......

Tazz Dan 04-06-2009 04:51 AM

Seriously though, I hope he gets drafted to Smackdown in 8 days. I really believe himself, Punk, MVP, Kofi, and possibly Shelton will all stand out over the next 12 months.

The Optimist 04-06-2009 05:08 AM

Oh, Shelton. You continue to do great things, then fuck up.

Tazz Dan 04-06-2009 05:58 AM

If Shelton could just wrestle MiTB matches all year round, well he'd probably be dead, but it would work in his favour :y:

Tazz Dan 04-06-2009 05:58 AM

Not being dead that is. Just that he generally shines each year it that match

You must have mis read me. I actually said:

Oh wait. You were trying to be smart.

The Optimist 04-06-2009 06:53 AM

TRYING! HA! Take that. Go get 'em Doogie.

.44 Magdalene 04-06-2009 07:49 AM

Yes, trying to be smart.

That's exactly what that was. It sure is good that you called out that post for what it was because I, for one, absolutely need people to interpret and explain posts for me.

.44 Magdalene 04-06-2009 07:50 AM

Do I need to put one of those little eye rolling smileys, too?

.44 Magdalene 04-06-2009 07:51 AM

Or can we just go ahead and chuckle about the WWE's booking habits without someone being a cock about it?

Mr. Nerfect 04-06-2009 09:04 AM

Thought about things like the day before WrestleMania, and I was actually going to make two threads about The Colons winning the Tag Team Titles and CM Punk winning MITB as being very, very likely occurences. Both happened, and I wasn't the least bit surprised. Funnily enough, the same thing happened with CM Punk last year. A lot of people were calling MVP in that match, too, but Matt Hardy returning cancelled him out (like winning the US Title this year).

Honestly, when you look at it, CM Punk was the most logical choice to go over. Well, logic mixed with taking what Vince has said in the past, and what he apparently thinks now into consideration.

Finlay winning the briefcase is only possible in the sense that anything is possible. The guy is pretty old, and the WWE hasn't really tried to make him a big star. He's a supporting player. The WWE could have been on to something with Fin about this time last year, but they chose to go with giving JBL a random WrestleMania win instead.

Mark Henry was not going to win the match, because it would just be the biggest anti-climax ever. No one is really going to be interested in Henry with the briefcase, and part of his charm on ECW has been that he's been out of the way. He was just in there to create that "Whoa!" factor.

This was a proving ground for Kofi Kingston, and he shone. Kingston will probably get a move to SmackDown! in the draft, and a bit of a push in the coming months. If they really want this guy to be a star (like a Rey Mysterio sort of star, and not really a Stone Cold sort of star), then they can do it the old-fashioned way. And as I already mentioned, MVP has been chasing the US Title, and recently won it to head into the match. He wasn't going to win here.

Then you've got the guys who had a real shot at winning the match. You can rule out Christian via Vince's comments about him not being a star. Him being the fan-favourite in the match hopefully changes that, but when you add it all up: Christian returning recently, him not really needing to win the match (they can build him up other ways), and the rumoured doubt in his abilities to main event, and you can remove him from the equation.

Shelton Benjamin has been working good matches with The Undertaker and Triple H, and I think 2009 could be his year. Benjamin could have used the briefcase win, but I'm actually thinking a face turn could be in store for him. They can use losing this match to push him, too. "Get serious and win something, Shelton," says Ric Flair, for example.

Kane could have won this match; and the idea of Kane stalking all three champions is both creeping and interesting, but Kane really doesn't need it. Besides, MITB is no way for "one last glory run." If the WWE do decide to make Kane a World Champion again, I think it will be from a less circumstantial scenario. Kane, like Benjamin, could have won the match, but they really pushed him hard going into the match so he didn't need to. He also was the last guy to oppose Punk on the ladder, which is sort of a consolation prize, I guess (I was thinking Christian would get that).

That just leaves CM Punk. Sure, he won it last year, but someone winning it twice is sort of inevitable, isn't it? Vince McMahon has listed Punk as one of the "future stars" of the company in the past, and they gave him the World Heavyweight Title last year. They sort of fumbled that, and I think they realise it's not Punk's fault. They took the World Title off him before any serious damage was done, and they were just picking their spots with him. They've given him an actual resume not consisting of World Titles now, and while he's already used the briefcase before, him reminding everyone what happened last time he did is a great way to remind people that he can play with the main eventers.

I remember thinking that the only way CM Punk would make it into the match was if he was going to win the briefcase, and I did lose track of that for a while, but I do think that Punk losing MITB, winning the next one, and then losing the next one is too much of a holding pattern for him (tell that to Shelton Benjamin, although, again, losing these things seems to be his shtick).

Punk winning the briefcase does make logical sense, especially if the company wants to give him another shot in the main event. Especially if they plan to do it right and commit this time. The guy pretty much stormed the mid-card in late 2008, so there's no where else for him to really go except up.

I was expecting Randy Orton to win the WWE Title, though, and for Punk to confront Orton on RAW and remind him how he cost Punk the WHT, and how Punk could come after him at any time (while not actually leading to a direct feud, as the Triple H stuff would have still been going on), but that didn't turn out, although things very rarely go exactly as you envision in the WWE.

One thing I was thinking when Punk was about to win the match, and the fans were booing, is that CM Punk could turn heel and cash in the briefcase, which would be awesome. Especially if the WWE still somewhat doubts his abilities to be a main event face.

And for the record, I see CM Punk staying on RAW. If they do a Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk feud, though (which would be awesome), I think Hardy being moved to RAW for it would be cool. He does seem to be the WWE's biggest merchandise mover these days.

Mr. Nerfect 04-06-2009 09:05 AM

That was much bigger than I thought would be. Basically, in summary:

Process of elimination again said that CM Punk could very well win the match; CM Punk cashing it in and turning heel would be awesome; Punk should stay on RAW; Tazz Dan's signature is awesome.

 you said 'cock'...

Krimzon7 04-06-2009 10:43 AM

I now love buttons because of Tazz Dan's sig. I think the night as a whole was entertaining. I wish they'd give Santino a shot at being funny AND credible (it worked wonders for The Rock). I am bummed out by the Shaman of Sexy being left off the card. especially at the expense of us having to watch fucking Hornswaggle and Mysterio...bullshit.

Legend Killer 04-06-2009 11:32 AM

Turn Punk Heel. Triple H has always been a fan of CM Punk. why not have him feud against HHH.

Kane86 04-06-2009 01:39 PM

Kane should of had his fucking moment this year. Its bullshit why not let him have money in the bank.

Xero 04-06-2009 01:39 PM

Title made me lol.

Then I got sad because we got a Noid post. :(

Krimzon7 04-06-2009 02:00 PM

Noid post

Mercury Bullet 04-06-2009 02:29 PM

I'm okay with Punk winning MITB, I would like to see him get a good build up this time with it though so he's a little more credible in the main event picture.

Jon Kano 04-06-2009 02:33 PM

Christian should've won it, then had a match with a victorious Edge on the same night.

St. Jimmy 04-06-2009 03:12 PM

GOD. Alienoid: tl;dr. work on that.

Anybody Thrilla 04-06-2009 05:30 PM

I like Punk, and I don't mind him winning again. I would like to see him not only be the first to win the case twice, but also be the first to lose when he cashes it in. Then he could turn heel from there pretty easily.

FourFifty 04-06-2009 06:15 PM

Why yes, because now he's cursed with carrying around a suitcase for a few months until he cashes it in. It's not like a guitar or a fucking parrot.

Anybody Thrilla 04-06-2009 06:32 PM

I think 450 is missing the point here.

Kane with the MITB would've been very cool. I would love to see him stalk all of the champions on the shows.

Kane86 04-07-2009 01:01 AM

Godforbid Kane has an interesting run this year.

How?
Someone said CM Punk is in the dog house, and I made a quip about how he has to carry a brief case like it's a burden.
At the Hall of Fame HTM said he thought he had it bad when he had to carry around a guitar until he saw Koko with a parrot, which (aside from tools to get over) were burdens because they had to carry and care for them.

Alas, the sarcasm was lost. I've failed. Only one thing to do now.
BRB, off to commit sepuku.

I agree but Punk was the only other choice, although an Edge vs Christian match to end the night would have been awesome but a lot of people were thinking that... hey Jericho didnt win the MITB when he returned but went on to win the title twice later that year, I think Vinny Mac will realize that Christian has fan support and will make him a champ sooner or later... personally i would like to see him and Punk feud and maybe even put the briefcase on the line

Krimzon7 04-07-2009 09:37 AM

Good Idea with them feuding over the briefcase. I would like to see Punk get ramrodded by Kennedy so he could the push he should have gotten. But I truly think that he'll be Future Endeavored soon.

Mr. Nerfect 04-07-2009 12:19 PM

I see Mr. Kennedy getting the run as ECW's top face in 2009. Sort of like the Matt Hardy role. I see Tommy Dreamer failing to take the ECW Title off Jack Swagger, and then Mr. Kennedy getting Dreamer in his corner to help him beat Swagger at Summerslam, or something.

CM Punk turning heel right now could be very cool, but for some reason, I don't think they'd do it. A heel turn against John Cena would also be fantastic. Cena wins the Last Man Standing Match against Edge, and the World Heavyweight Title is property of RAW, until the recently drafted CM Punk cashes in and wins the belt for SmackDown!.

ron the dial 04-07-2009 12:52 PM

i think punk needs more time on the mic as a face before they turn him heel. plus, why would you turn him heel before he could have a proper feud with randy orton? it's set up beautifully already, they just need to capitalize on it. i'm all for a heel punk because i think that's when he's at his most dynamic, but it's got to be the right time. he's a great face right now and should stay that way at least through the rest of this year.

Mr. Nerfect 04-07-2009 01:23 PM

Well, Randy Orton vs. CM Punk would make sense of Orton were the WWE Champion.
