Madden NFL '10
They've just released the first screens
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.c...madden10_2.jpg http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.c...madden10_1.jpg ROFL at this one though http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.c...creens_580.jpg |
skipping it
Cannot wait until screens start looking like the actual gameplay, and not completely over rendered.
I don't care as long as I can hit the ref
They all look like characters out of Celebrity Death Match.
Maybe if the ref is on the field he can spot when the tackles sidestep the people they're meant to be blocking. Or when the receivers out of the backfield catch and run sideways instead of forwards. Or when the fucking two feet inbounds rule doesn't work. Or the hundred other things that they haven't fixed in like 5 years.
Did they ever fix that "Quarterback throwing a 60 yard bomb even though he is being taken to the ground and the ball already hit off the defender" glitch
Looks pretty sweet to me. They had better up the presentation this year to include studio pregame, half time, and post game shits.
You say that like you actually expect them to expend effort on putting new things into the game.
Well, not that new since ESPN 2k5 had them, but you know what I mean. LIMITED DEVELOPMENT CYCLE. NO TIME FOR NEW CONTENT, LOOK AT THE PRETTY PRETTY SNOW. |
I would kill for Madden to look like that, but it won't. I'm tired of the situations that "only happen in madden" personally...
Those aren't the first screens, that's just promoting the introduction of the Wildcat formation in the franchise (> Shit nobody cares about).
Does look good. Wonder how NFL 2K10 will lo- NO WAIT EA COCK BLOCKED HALF A DECADE AGO. WITH A HIT-STICK. |
It was the worst thing they could have done.
Madden 04 through 06 are the best Football games ever. THen with a lack of competition they have become shitty and stagnant, and have completely sucked on Next Gen Systems. |
I thought '09 was okay, at least.
'09 was nothing speical. And the finished product for '10 will look nothing like those screenshots.
09 was ok, decent enough.
09 was ok but I lost my interest way too quickly...think I only wound up doing one game in franchise :o
I have more fun playing NCAA 09. College football is just more damn fun.
Seen gameplay trailers. Yeah, hardly at the level of those touched up shots. I would just show the damn product I'm making.
Is that the real cover??
If so, that is bad fucking ass... |
I wonder what the gameplay implications are. They often had cover stars that related to an added gameplay mechanic.
NCAA 10 has different covers per system. I thought that was pretty nifty.
http://www.gamespot.com/sports/blogs...=picks;title;3
Some early player ratings, for those who care about that sort of stuff. DeAngelo Hall -- Washington CB Madden NFL 09 Overall Rating: 93 Madden NFL 10 Overall Rating: 68 Difference: -25  |

LOL Polamalu and Fitzgerald are both going to get their legs broken or freak out and end up on IR within the first month of the season. The madden curse lives! I'm just glad that Jacobs didn't end up on the cover.
Next year I hope they put the entire New York Giants roster on the cover.

They restructured the entire ratings system. Average players now have ratings in the 70's, good players in the 80's, and only superstars will have ratings in the 90's. There will be far less ratings in the 90's and the aim is to truly separate the superstars from the rest of the pack.
They significantly tweaked the speed ratings and stuff too as to adjust the speed of the game. They're also implementing a slider for the overall speed of the game. |

Leinart 62
that's too high for a benchwarmer who sits there and looks pretty for all the girls.
LOL HEY EVERYBODY DAVEWADDING THINKS MATT LEINART IS PRETTY
Wonder what Cassell's rating is.
89 according to Vito's link :o
The cover is sweet
Apparently the official Madden site has been showing the ratings for players as they are drafted, here are the first two rounds:

i dont care how the game is or what player ratings are, i'll do what i do every year, draft a team of players in franchise mode where the oldest player is only 24, all rookies with crap ratings, and make an undefeated run to the superbowl 6 years running with the same guys. I do think they should have a difficulty rating higher that All-Madden, cos even that is easy.
lol why would you even buy the game then?
Yeah apparently, they are "revamping" their ratings systems so as to make the players seem more like they are IRL, and I also read somewhere that they are trying to fix the sack animations, so hopefully we won't have to worry about "suction sacks", as they are called.
why buy the game, cos i have a copy of EVERY Madden game made.

:wtf: Are these bozos serious? Are they seriously talking up something we were able to do for a long fucking time? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're looking like dumbasses right now. |
FIX THE FUCKING GAME YOU IDIOTS
Heh I remember doing online co op on NFL 2K for the fucking Dreamcast!
In case it gets lost in the E3 shuffle, online franchise mode, you can do day-to-day management through the console, web or iPhone app and then play the games on 360/PS3.

Oh yeah, Demo is up on XBL Marketplace.
Played the demo and the graphics are the best I've ever seen them. This might be the best Madden yet. Can't wait till next month.
Yeah the demo was pretty good. I need a Madden game that can hold me over for more than a month.
Thank you, God, for making this game slower paced.
I can actually get to the QB and get a sack before he throws it now. Hopefully I won't win games like 100 - 0, but with opposing QBs with over 300+ yards a game now. Glad it's slower paced. Also much easier to find running lanes now too. |

Finally we have a halftime, post game, and Franchise NFL week recap shows. |
In case anyone didn't know and wants the full Steelers/Cards 5 minute quarters demo:
1) Preorder it on Gamestop/EB. 2) Wait for E-mail code to come though (usually takes about like 10 minutes). 3) Cancel Pre-Order 4) ???? 5) PROFIT |
That halftime show was assssss. NFL2k5 for LIFE.
Not sure they were ever posted, but here are the full Madden ratings...dropdown link on the side to change teams:
http://espn.go.com/videogames/featur...en10?teamId=16 The Giants' receiving core fucking blows in Madden once you take Plax and Toomer out :o Hakeem Nicks starts with the same overall as Steve Smith? Apparently they don't think Gerris Wilkinson is making the team, either. |
It's fun on the wii.

Online franchise mode sounds half-assed.
Q: Does online franchise have player contracts or the salary cap? A: No, this was the hardest pill to swallow for the entire design and development team this year as far as cut features go. But the reality of this decision was that we were able to get all of the other features of online franchise, and we were able to make it all in time to get into the Madden NFL 10 box. Just like with CPU trade logic, we will balance what features are most important to the community and try to attack those first after the game comes out. Q: So no free agency either then? A: Actually, we do have a free agent wire. You have the ability to cut players in online franchise and then sign a free agent to replace him. That means when you release them to the free agent wire, they become available to the rest of the league. If you are in a Franchise with your friends, you could submit waiver claims to your commissioner and have him determine the order of who gets what free agent like a fantasy league (this is what we've been doing here at work). However if you are in a Franchise with strangers this will just be first-come first-serve. Q: So how long does the player stay on your team? A: Since we do not have contracts in online franchise, players stay on your team until they retire or until you trade them away. Q: So no free agency, no contracts, and no salary cap...that stinks! Why didn't you put them in? A: Many have asked why we left these features out, and the simple answer is that there just wasn't enough time to get it in before the game hits the shelves. Creating a 100% server-based Online Franchise mode with full stat tracking and numerous other features wasn't a very quick task. :) It took a major effort from our team to get to what we were happy with in a 1st year feature. The good news here though is that we HAVE given you a way to simulate this important part of the NFL off-season. We have given you a way to handle all of your offseason player movement, player contracts, etc. with your own house rules. The commissioner will have the option to Add/Drop players at will during the offseason (this is a website exclusive feature). I can give you an example of what we are already doing here at the office in our online franchise...Each team in the league is forced to give up five 70+ OVR players to free agency (we all agreed on the CPU team players to release). We then took that list, and did a quick free agency draft with that list of players. The commish then went into the Commissioner Options screen and add/dropped the players to the new teams. While this is not exactly ideal, it does give those folks who are looking for a very realistic Franchise experience a way to have offseason player movement every year. We are actively looking at a robust, live bidding free agent type feature for the future, but a lot depends on the priority you all (the fans) give us on each feature once you get your hands on online franchise. http://maddennfl.easports.com/blog.action |
Wow, surprise, EA hypes a new major feature and it turns out to be incomplete 'but we'll fix it for next year'.
Why not just wait until it's fucking finished in the first place you stupid pricks. |
Speaking for them, I think getting it started in a limited presentation is actually the smart thing to do. They're probably not too sure they know how to do a full fledged feature and this is there test go. Madden '11 should have the real Online Franchise Mode, but I understand why it would be limited this year.
It's just how certain franchise developers work. |
I read somewhere than you can do a fantasy draft for online franchises? So that would make it exactly like a fantasy football league, except you get to actually play the games. I have no problem with that. But thats more so what they should hype it as instead of making it seem like full blown franchise mode.
Has a good soundtrack.
They shoudl call it online LEAGUES, not FRANCHISE MODE
Fuckers |
I personally couldn't care less about online franchise. Unless you play with you're friends, you're just going to end up playing with assholes who cheese the game anyways.
Hmmm. Might check out Madden this year. Usually don't get it as I prefer the NCAA football game. Just got 2010 too, so Madden might have to wait a bit.

While it pisses me off that the mode is not complete, online franchise doesn't really bother me because I had no idea if I'd play it. I mean, we tried a TPWW league last year and it didn't work out at all.
If we decided to start one though, I'd be all for fantasy drafting everybody and starting with totally fresh rosters...might garner more interest that way since some people are invariably like "yeah not gonna join cause my team was taken". |
8.9 from IGN
As shallow as it is, I hope I still enjoy Superstar mode this year.
And another small nitpick...I like the little touches: stats, postgame shows, etc, etc, etc...I miss being able to set prices of food and merchandise. Aside from that, this game looks like it will be great. |
Apparently you can get this for $26 if you don't mind a little hassle.
I would do it if I gave a damn about this game and had some money. |

Haven't watched that review yet, but I played one half on 7 minute quarters on All-Pro, slow speed setting at Best Buy over the weekend.
That said, and with that very limited experience my impressions are: - The slower setting is nice for running. I've never had a problem with the speed of the game, but I don't think I'll mind the slower pace. This is adjustable so the feel of the game in this regard can be adjusted. - The rumbling of the controller when the QB comes under pressure is a nice addition I think. - Animations are fairly smooth, graphically the best in the series. - Commentary is pretty bad. - Presentation has received a bit of a face lift, what with pre-game, halftime presentations etc. I'll probably buy it and worst case, return within a week if I find anything glaring about the game play. As long as the franchise is bug free and well done I'll be happy, couldn't give a fuck less about most else online or off. |
Their commentary may be bad, but it's still better then that stupid radio announcer guy they had before.
Its god awful. It sounds so segmented and awkward.
Great game
Quote:
AAAANYWAYS, the commentary has been lacking way before '10. Is madden even the commentator on this one? If not, thats a god damn shame. And, if Madden dies, will they still be calling it Madden? |
Hammond and Collinsworth again. Pretty mundane but there are a few nice touches (such as mentioning Kyle Orton being under pressure after the Cutler trade etc)
And John Madden shall never let a silly thing like death get in the way of his game |
The game definitely looks way better (amazing really, minus some fan and coach models), and running and tackling are the obvious improvements. But the presentation does have a long way to go.
I was curious to see what new downloads there were on live for add ons....
Madden has like 10 new addons and besides ones that jump your stats up there is one for online franchise mode as well as scouts to help you find new people for next season I guess. Just thought it was weird that all this was for this game and I was wondering how many people are actually gonna download the scouts. I enjoy the game but am pissed at the moment because I completed over half the madden moments and the game didnt save. |
I've set up a franchise for anyone that wants to join on TPWW (XBox 360 wise anyways). Just search for TPWW and the password is doombait
Fun game. Doing my standard Superstar Mode as a fullback (a position I enjoy playing cause it's a combination of pretty much everything...blocking, running, catching...though I have yet to run the ball yet). It also allows me to get through games faster because I'm not used on every single play.
Got drafted by the Cardinals, off to a 7-1 start, Beanie Wells is absolutely tearing shit up with me blocking in front of him, probably gonna wind up ROY. I also have 15 receptions, including 3 receiving TDs...I have yet to drop a pass, something I did a lot in older versions. |
Is it me, or does the running feel more difficult?
I was playing on like easy mode the other night to get used to it...Like 7 minute quarters and 15 second acc. clock. With Knowshon Moreno (traded to the Jets), I managed to break the record of rushing yards in a single game (from 296 to 308 I think). Thing is, I also ran it I think like 36 times. Is it me, or does this game seem more difficult than last year's, even with slider adjustments? Passing, running, etc....It all feels more challenging than last year. |
I can run fine, but passing is damn near impossible for me. Also, resigning is may be more realistic, but man is it a motherfucker. Still haven't gotten the hang of managing the cap in this years game. Had a 12th overall pick keep refusing offers until I had to give him a 5 year $70 MILLION contract. Fucking ridiculous
Mike Vick will be added on Aug 19th as part of the roster udate. He will have a 73 overall rating: 90 speed, 94 agility, 92 acceleration, 93 throw power, and 69 throw accuracy.
Bought it for PS3 over the weekend. The best Madden ever.
I need to go buy this :s
Overall this game still needs a lot of work. There are far too many nagging, little issues that need to be fixed that get left by the wayside every year. I've managed to make my game enjoyable with some slider work, in light of all of this. This year is probably the best Madden on next-gen, but thats not saying much. I can honestly say I probably won't buy another Madden until we get a new game engine. That likely won't come until another round of systems.
There are some inherently terrible AI flaws in several aspects of the game. Thankfully I play franchise mostly offline, maybe 2-3 online games a year. I hear online is a joke, basically every game being like those toolboxes on the Madden Nation show. |

I also just purchased Madden 10 for Xbox 360. :)
It is amazing btw, for some reason. Gameplay just feels way more fun, for whatever reason. Love the 7 min quarter, then clock runoff defaults also. Is that the online default? I haven't played online yet. |
