Better Movie #1
Adapting this from the Wrestling Forum which really we should've done a while ago. So yeah, two movies, pick which one you like better. Winner advances to the next matchup. If a movie wins five matchups it is inducted into the TPWW Movie Hall of Fame.
Better Movie #1 http://mymoviebanners.com/pics/pulp/pulp-fiction-1.jpg Pulp Fiction vs. http://mymoviebanners.com/pics/ghost...tbusters-2.jpg Ghostbusters Polls are open for three days. Happy voting. |
Pulp would have a serious leg up on 99% of movies. Unfortunately, Ghostbusters edges it out in that elite group for me.
Ghostbusters is good but Pulp Fiction is better. But comparing those 2 movies sorta feels like comparing something like Iron Man with the Shining.
That's the point, dronepool. Pulp Fiction would dominate pretty much any similar movie and Ghostbusters would destroy pretty much any action/comedy movie. But when put up against each other it requires you to really think about what grabbed you in each film and made it special.
I think Pulp Fiction is good, but not what it's made out to be. It's clever, but at the same time it's self-indulgent, and that's exactly what I hate about Tarantino. Sometimes I just need him to get to a point.
Yeah, Pulp Fiction wasn't as good as everyone makes it out to be.
Ghostbusters wins this for me. |
Pulp Fiction was amazing, but Ghostbusters left a legacy. Easily one of my favourite films of all time, and has been pretty much since I was born.

Pulp Fiction is great, but it's something that you kind of have to be in the mood for. Ghostbusters is great and I could watch it every day.
Ghostbusters. |

Going with Pulp Fiction on this. Ghostbusters is a fun movie and immensely entertaining, but Pulp Fiction is that once in a generation film that encompasses everything great about movies. And that's true regardless of what you think about Tarantino.
Surprised as how easily Ghostbusters is winning this
It's still early but yeah I'm a little surprised. I think it probably has to do with the fact that Ghostbusters appeals to everyone.
Jeritron brought up last night that people will associate Ghostbusters with their childhood which also adds a lot of extra nostalgia points. |
I think Ghostbusters stands out for it's incredible originality. The absurdity of it really leads to some great humor, and the cast is perfect to get the most out of situations comedically.
That isn't to say Pulp Fiction isn't as well. |
Interesting to note that both these films achieved great success without the use of a hot actress.
Pulp Fiction.
Hot first match up, Ghostbusters all the way though.
I've always found that Pulp Fictions only flaw is the copy cat movies that followed it's success, like I hate Boondock Saints, Guy Ritchie, Suicide Kings etc. Ghostbusters ony the other hand is kinda inimitable. BUT! i'm not going to let that interfere with my voting, so i'm going to go with Pulp Fiction.
Pulp Fiction is overrated not to mention I hate Travolta and think he sucks.
Really tough choice, but I'm gonna have to give my vote to Pulp Fiction, if only because it was the movie that turned me into a movie-geek. Ghostbusters is still damn awesome, though.
Don't cross the streams, my vote goes to Ghostbusters.
Pulp Fiction without even thinking about it.

How the fuck did Pulp Fiction not leave a legacy? |

This I cannot believe it is neck and neck |
All tied up. A pretty good start to the Better Movie competition.
Need more voters though. Gotta get the word out to the masses. |
I like this thread idea very much. I voted for Pulp Fiction. So quotable.
Ghostbusters is quotable too you know :(
Even Cena quoted it this week.
Pulp Fiction is more quotable than Ghostbusters. No contest.
THERE IS NO CONTEST, ONLY ZUUL
Heh. Gold. |
Look at the big brain on Brad!
I've worked in the private sector, they expect results.
Ghostbusters.
I liked Pulp Fiction, but I liked GB more. |

One of the great tings about Ghostbusters is that I'll be able to show it to my kids when the time comes and it will be just as great to them as it was to me. It's just a timeless movie. Even with the special effects being a little dated, it is a great experience every single time I watch it. Also,I may be showing bias as Bill Murray is one of my favorite actors ever but I believe the bias should be excused as Ghostbusters is probably what got me into loving Bill Murray.
Pulp Fiction by some distance
These results are very interesting. I thought Pulp Fiction would run through the competition but it just shows what different people think makes a movie great. And personally I think that's pretty cool.
Ghostbusters is great, but Pulp takes it for me.

Pulp Fiction is an a-movie. Ghostbusters, although I love it to bits, would fall into a b-movie category. they're both retro and still hot so obv they can both easily be deemed "classics". they are different genres, doesn't really seem fair to put an apple next to an orange... i mean i guess you can compare the vitamin content or the taste, but come on.
Pulp Fiction eaisly.
No contast - Ghost Busters didn't suck it's actually a pretty good movie, but it's not that good. |
Far from a B-Movie Rhiannon
Pulp Fiction - 33000
I've never seen Pulp Fiction.
That's a mistake.
Neither.
Close this poll now before Bill Murray and Rick Moranis find this site.
This is an epic battle filled with comeback after comeback. Does Ghostbusters have one last push to take the lead one final time, and what the hell am I going to do in the event of a tie?
Stay tuned to find out. |
I enjoy Pulp Fiction, but it doesn't have the same rewatch value as Ghostbusters for me. I appreciate how well plotted and well executed Pulp Fiction is, and its tough to list any movie above it, but Ghostbusters isn't "any movie"... it's fucking Ghostbusters, the most iconic movie ever made.

I knew thehazeefect would come through with a Ghostbusters vote. He just seems like a Ghostbusters guy.
I still cannot believe this honestly, I am disgusted.
I mean I get nostalgic about the Goonies, but if someone asked me to choose what was the better film The Goonies or Reservoir Dogs I would not pick The Goonies because of this, because I know Dogs is a superior film and also one of the most ground breaking and influential in Hollywood's history. |
I truly think Ghostbusters is better. Get over yourself right now, Chris. Come on now. People disagree.
You can't dismiss Ghostbusters as a nostalgic vote. People weren't walking out of screenings of Ghostbusters in 1984 in awe out of nostalgia for the film they had just seen... rather because it's hilarious, ambitious and generally just cool as fuck. Bit like Pulp Fiction, I guess, but better.
Ghostbusters is commonly listed as one of the best comedy of all time. It's not only a nostalgia vote.
Great match up. Love the tone this sets for the rest of the competition. When Theddy, Jeritron, and I were discussing what matchup to make, we settled on Ghostbusters because we thought it'd be one of the few movies that might have a chance to stay close to Pulp Fiction. Needless to say this has to be considered a bit of an upset.
I'll put the next round up in a couple hours as I don't want to deal with typing in html code on my blackberry. If you have any requests for movies you'd like to see featured in this competition then don't be bashful, send me a message. |
This was absurd.
I want another though.

I have to say I'm surprised at the outcome, even though I voted for Ghostbusters.
I can't wait until Freddy Got Fingered beats Citizen Kane in the next round

I'm aware that Pulp Fiction is technically the better film. It's also more influential. No doubt about it.
However, we're voting on whatever criteria we want here, and I went with personal preference. Hence, I voted Ghostbusters. I'm aware of Pulp Fictions merits, and I appreciate it's intertextuality. I also love the movie. However, I watch Ghostbusters more often and it's just happened to have more of a role in my life. This is a poll, not AFI. I'll keep my vote to myself and not serve the greater good, thank you. Both movies are great, and recognized as such. This is an upset, but not some atrocity. It's one of the greatest comedies ever, and if we do it by genres respectively then they are both close, since the top the lists of their genres. |
Chris, you seem to be a bit bitter here.
I voted for Ghostbusters not on nostalgia. I voted for Ghostbusters because of the great writing, superb acting from everyone in the cast, and most of all the overall rewatch value of the film. I could watch Ghostbusters every week. Ghostbusters on DVD is probably the greatest investment I've made in the past 5 years; I watch it, my little brother watches it, my dad watches it, I let a friend borrow it and so on...
Why is one of the best comedies out of the question as one of the best movies?
The writing is fantastic. The film moves extremely well, and is helmed competently. On top of that, it's an insanely original premise, done extremely well. What makes it so taboo on a greatest movies of alltime list? The way it was shot? If there were more trunk-shots and bells and whistles would it be acceptable? Pulp Fiction is incredible though. When it first came out, the impact it made was amazing. I suppose I'm just using different criteria here. |
