In what critics around the world and ct2k are deeming a massive upset, Ghostbusters defeated Pulp Fiction in the inaugural Better Movie battle. Now, the fearsome foursome face another daunting task, way tougher than any marshmallow man: Bitch tit Bob.

These are two cult classics.

Ghostbusters is by all means the better movie though. If I put it over Pulp Fiction, it has to go over this.
Fight Club has grown to cult status due to many of it's cool elements, and the actors in it. However, it wasn't very well recieved when it came out.

I like it. Good movie, but it doesn't stick out to me as great.
Ghostbusters is a top comedy of all-time.

I've only seen Fight Club when it first came out, and I was only 11/12 then, so don't really understand or remember any of it.

I have a Fight Club movie poster, so that wins.

I'm sorry, I hated 'The Uninvited' also because of a similar ending.

I dunno, it's not the same as Pulp Fiction. Fight Club is also a cult classic appreciated mostly by a generation.

It's not as though Fight Club has gotten better critical praise than Ghostbusters has.

As far as David Fincher goes, I prefer Se7en and Zodiac

For some reason, certain movies get held out of it by a group of naysayers. Halloween isn't in there either.
A few others have stuck out to me as "why the fuck isn't that on the 250" before

But yea, in general that list is a good guidline for what's popular among male movie geeks in their 20s, with a few exceptions.

It's also ridiculous how everytime a movie comes out it is in the top250.

That's my main gripe with the whole system they have set up.

And the episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark? that it was based on came out a few years earlier.

There was an episode that was very similar to the Sixth Sense, that M. Night Shaymalan admitted to deriving his movie from.

Eh, the system is fine since it's just an open poll. It's just important to realize that the list has no credibility or reach AT ALL.

Basically great movies that aren't "cool" don't get the recognition they deserve from people on there.
There is no way E.T. doesn't deserve to be on that list. It just isn't on there because the demographic that dominates the community on there thinks emotions are uncool

Can't believe Ghostbusters and Halloween aren't though. There are a lot of others I can't think of right now too. Legitimately great films.

Gotta go with Fight Club, I just love that movie too much.

Also, the book ends with Tyler Durden (Jack) in a mental hospital, where the guards are part of project mayhem, and they nod at him knowingly all the time, and assure him everything is going according to plan (if I recall correctly.) I like the ending of the book better too.

Going with Fight Club because I am bitter.

Love both films, but Ghostbusters edges it because of how awesome Bill Murray is.

The previous battle was a toughie, but this is Ghostbusters hands down without question for me.

I don't know. Fight Club is over-rated but apparently so is Ghostbusters now. I might have to go watch Ghostbusters again since I haven't seen it in about fifteen years.

I'm going to go with Fight Club because it has an awesome soundtrack and Brad Pitt is really hot in it, although it fizzled out at the end. I haven't seen Ghostbusters in such a long time that I really don't remember anything about it other than liking it when I was eight.

Fight Club I could only get through twice, because to me, once the big twist ending was revealed, the only reason to watch it again was to see how much they teased at the twist in the beginning. I enjoyed the hell out of it, but on sheer replayability (not sure if that's a word), I'm going with Ghostbusters.

We don't talk about the better movie.

I like Ghostbusters but I don't think it should have beaten Pulp Fiction, and I give Fight Club the edge here.

Come on, guys... Fight Club can't win this! That would be akin to saying Fight Club is better than Pulp Fiction, which it clearly isn't. My vote is with Ghostbusters as it is probably my all-time favourite movie, but taking that away there's no way in hell Fight Club is better than Pulp Fiction. If either of those two are ever going to knock Ghostbusters off, it should be Pulp.

Fight Club winning this matchup in no way implies anything about Pulp Fiction. That is a very unsound argument to make as it is a huge logical fallacy.

Well if the general opinion of this board dictates that Ghostbusters is superior to Pulp Fiction, and later concurs by a majority decision that Fight Club is superior to Ghostbusters, then it is not unreasonable to come to the conclusion that 'TPWW voters think Fight Club is better than Pulp Fiction'.

Anyway I could happily accept Ghostbusters losing out to Pulp Fiction because Pulp Fiction is so good (even if I do personally prefer the 'Busters), but Fight Club?? Come on!!

Just because it's a reasonable assumption doesn't mean it's correct. As we've seen already in both matchups, there is no set voting criteria and people are free to vote for whatever reason they like. Certain people like certain movies for certain reasons. And none of those reasons are wrong. There is also no exclusive list of voters. So that means your sample size is different.

Besides, the whole point of even having these polls to vote in is to see what people think about movies. If it was already a proven fact that one movie is better than another, what would even be the point of having these debates? There'd just be a giant list somewhere to reference. But there is no proof that Pulp Fiction is better than Fight Club. Only opinion. And your opinion is no more valid than anyone else's.

I hate how people give spite votes. It's their vote to give, and there's no rules. Still, it's kind of lame to vote against a movie based on past results, rather than judge the matchup and vote for the better movie.

It clearly has some bearing, seeing as half of this thread is people saying their voting against Ghostbusters, or upset that it beat Pulp Fiction.

There's just no way to measure how much of a bearing it has.

I'd just like to know who decided Pulp Fiction was a better film than Fight Club? I'm willing to bet they're the same people who decided Pulp Fiction was a better film than Ghostbusters. And yet we saw what happened there.

The Wizard of Oz was a better reviewed film than The Empire Strikes Back, but I'll go out on a limb here and say Empire would beat the shit out of the The Wizard of Oz in one of these matchups. Different things appeal to different folks. That's the beauty, and the whole point really, of having an opinion.

not a fan of Fight Club and Ghostbusters is like the epitome of my childhood. My parents tell me of the days I used to act out the whole entire movie while the movie was playing. I must of been an annoying fucker.

Ghostbusters has earned more critical praise than Fight Club. Whether it be from critics, the academy, AFI, or the general population of the world.
I'm not saying that stuff matters. It's ones own decision.
But it's ignorant to act as though just because 'you' think it's far more brilliant, that it's an accepted fact, or something like that.

It's also one-sided to attribute it's success on here to geekdom and/or nostalgia.
You can make a similar debate for Fight Club, which is one of the more popular movies among the college aged male bracket.
It's geekdom of a different shade. It's not like Fight Club is so widely appreciate outside of that demographic. Fight Club posters find their home on freshmen dorm room walls all across america.

Just incredibly flawed to treat Ghostbusters winning as an upset or miscarriage of justice when it's the more popular and successful movie. Any other claim is unfounded.

Anyway when I saw the matchup I thought, yeah Fight Club is ok but I've only watched it once and probably never would again. I think it ties in with what somebody said earlier about the 'surprise', it ruins it for me when I think about rewatching it. It was actually a major factor for me in the voting. The fact that it is fairing better than Pulp Ficiton is actually surprising like that time some jobber took out Macho Man in the Better Wrestler vote.

CM Punk came close to taking out the Macho Man though.

I like Fight Club, but I don't see why some people hate Ghostbusters so much and see it as some sort of ridiculous, brainless blockbuster movie. It's one of the finest comedy every made, critically acclaimed, well acted by top comedians with a lot of great gags who had perfect timing, and it's very quotable to boot. It's simply a classic movie, no matter if you look at it simply against other comedies, or against other movies in general.

Some arthouse clown will try to tell you that Bill Murray's comedy isn't as good as it is in Wes Anderson movies.

It is. They're both great.

Funny that's where Bill Murray ended up, as well as Ivan Reitman's son. Ghostbusters is very smart, dry humor. It's a type of humor that is mostly dead on a mainstream level.

Hmmm gonna watch Ghostbusters again soon. I probably haven't seen it in like at least 10 years (even though that was only like the year 2000, damn).

Ghostbusters 2 isn't nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. It isn't as good as Ghostbusters, but it's still fun and Bill Murray is gold again.

Yeah, Ghostbusters 2 is not as classic as the first one, but it's still pretty entertaining.

The Ghostbusters 2 Pack is on my "To Buy" list. I got it for my dad one year for his birthday and I'm pretty sure he's never opened it, so I'm thinking I might be able to "borrow" it and never return it.

A little under a day and a half left to vote with Fight Club still holding a decent lead. We saw Ghostbusters make a late charge to achieve victory last time. Will it happen again?

Well I tried to look at things somewhat objectively. I think a balance can be struck. If you legitimately think Ghostbusters is a better movie than Pulp Fiction (or Fight Club), all things considered, then thats cool. If however Ghostbusters is your favourite and you have made absolutely no attempt to assess the two films qualities beyond that, well thats just immoral:mad:

lol, here we go again. Unless there is some sort of set criteria in which we are to base our decisions off of, the movie we enjoyed the most is most likely going to win. Also, why would I vote for a movie I didn't like as much over a favorite movie of mine? It wouldn't make sense. How could I say "I enjoyed Ghostbusters alot more than Pulp Fiction, but Pulp Fiction is a better movie"? Aren't enjoyment and watchability the main factors here?
