Covers that you like that you have heard before the original song
Like songs that you like now but you heard the cover before the original.
The Boys of Summer (Ataris/Don Henly) Ice Box (There For Tomorrow/Omarion) Apologize (Silverstein/OneRepublic) I must have a sheltered indie punk/metal life because I didn't hear these songs until the covers lol |
I went to a show one time and the band did all punk covers of punk covers. It was pretty bad ass. The guitarist was wearing a studded belt.
|
I remember hearing a cover of Blitzkreig Bop before the original. Don't know who did it.
There's the obvious Hendrix version of "All Along the Watchtower," because I knew Hendrix before Dylan. And Type O Negative's cover of "Cinnamon Girl" because I'd never really been into Neil Young. Speaking of Neil Young, I heard the Alarm's cover of "Rockin' in the Free World" before the original, but that's because I was eight and my Dad was a fan of Welsh rockers. |
Straylight Run's cover of Joanna Newsom's "Peach, Plum, Pear". Original version is godawful.
|
Smokin' in the Boys Room by Motley Crue.I dont even recall hearing the original version by Brownsville Station.
|
Hurt(Cash/NIN)
Love both versions now. |
Wish you were here - Rasputina covering Pink Floyd
Landslide - Dixie Chicks covering Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac |
The majority of the Blues Ive ever heard.
Buckley's Hallelujah is one. |
Sonic Youth's version of Superstar.
|
Behind Blue Eyes (Limp Bizkit)
Still like it better than the original. |
I wish I had heard Richard Cheese before all other contemporary music.

I would have to say Sheryl Crows version of Sweet Child O Mine is by far far far better than GNR's by a loads and loads. AWESOME!

Sweet Dreams and Tainted Love by Marilyn Manson
|
Helter Skelter covered by U2.
|
The Black Keys
The Sonics covering Have Love, Will Travel. Richard Berry's isn't bad either, but I like The Sonics version the most. |
I first heard Marilyn Manson's cover of Personal Jesus and someone told me about Depeche Mode originally singing it
Still like Manson's version best |
Red Hot Chili Peppers covering Havana Affair
|
Sheryl Crowe, Sweet Child of Mine, Still like it better than the original
|
Along Comes Mary - The Association/The Bloodhoung Gang
|

Choke on it. |
Who's been talking (Clutch/ Howlin' Wolf)
|
All Along the Watchtower.
Alot of people think it was Hendrix and the Experience. And to my shock and dismay, alot of people think that Good Times, Bad Times was written by Godsmack...:nono: |
First heard Nirvana covering "The man who sold the world". Later on heard the original from Bowie. Nirvana made that song so much better.
|
I really kinda like Darren Hayes' cover of Madonna's Dress You Up
-I guess I kinda knew it was an old song of Madonna but he does a damn good cover of it <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ef7w6MSupQg&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ef7w6MSupQg&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> |
Thanks to my local classic rock station, I heard Aerosmith's cover of "Come Together" way before the original Beatles song.
|
Landslide (Smashing Pumpkins/Fleetwood Mac)
California Sun (The Ramones/bunch of other bands, don't actually know who performed it first) Mr. Blue Sky (Nerf Herder/ELO) |
both versions of Landslide are amazing. Hard to pick a favorite.
|
O my goodness Nerf Herder. I can't even listen to them, it's just like being in 7th grade again. I liked their version of Mr. Blue Sky though.

Not sure if this is completely on topic, but I fucking hate that people think Aerosmith did 'Dream On' originally. Even when Queen's version is played on the radio, some DJ's say Aerosmith.
 |
Call on me - Eric Prydz
before Valerie - STeve Winwood. |

...because I know when I'm listening to Aerosmith and when I'm listening to Queen?
|
Because you have no idea what you are talking about.
|
I mean, really? Do you know what you are even talking about?

So yeah, Screech, you should figure shit out before you get all "Pissed" at people calling it wrong, when in fact you are a retard just assuming shit.

Hurt - Johnny Cash/NIN
|
Rock the Casbah- TRUSTcompany/ Clash
I actually heard the TRUSTcompany version first and I like it better than the Clash version. |

I've heard a ton of different covers of Summertime Blues (The Who, Rush, Alan Jackson etc.) and have still never heard the original.
|
Alan Jacksoon's is the best
|
God, this is a tasty cover of "All along the watch tower"

I really like Charlotte Martin's cover of Wild Horses and I knew it was a cover but I just don't like the original
She sings it much better then Mick Jagger who originally sang it <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OoMqEGI79MI&hl=en&fs=1&hd=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/OoMqEGI79MI&hl=en&fs=1&hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> |
Venus - first by Shocking Blue, remade by Bananarama.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Xe3fLHfRASI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Xe3fLHfRASI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Also, Sweetbox did a nice remake of Always on My Mind. Not to mention that Willie Nelson remade the song from Elvis. And throw in the Pet Shop Boys on this remake train too. |
