Official Guitar Hero 5/Van Halen thread

It had to eventually get done, so here you go.

Guitar Hero 5 starts the party on September 1

by JC Fletcher { 33 minutes ago } http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...001xbox001.png http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...intendo001.png http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...station001.png

<CENTER>http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.c...arhero0527.jpg</CENTER>The website for Guitar Hero 5 opened, revealing the release date for this year's biggest Guitar Hero sequel: September 1. Expect to somehow end up purchasing it whether you want to or not, just like every Guitar Hero game.

If you'd like more info on this inevitable purchase, Gamespot posted, in addition to some new screens and brief footage, some details on the game's new "Party Play" mode. This feature is designed to allow total flexibility in social situations. Party Play allows you to start the game with no players, using a playlist of Guitar Hero music as a sort of jukebox. When people decide they want to play a song, they can pick up an instrument, push a button, and begin playing immediately.

This is also where the game's instrument flexibility comes in. Party Play is designed to allow any combination of instruments, in case you want to play Barbershop Quartet Hero.

Seriously doubt I'll be using it as a jukebox. :wtf:

lol sry meant to paste font code. NEWayz.

I don't like reading stuff. While all my crap from GH4 be able to be in GH5? I am one of those people that hate swapping discs in my Wii and want to just keep one in there and be able to play my old stuff. If this is not possible I probably won't waste my money.
crossrine

Kane Knight 05-27-2009 12:23 PM

Do you mean your on-disc crap or DLC? Because most of the DLC will be forward compatible, as was confirmed in another thread. Don't know about the shit on-disc though. Probably not.

road doggy dogg 05-27-2009 01:17 PM

A little bit of both. I'd prefer everything, but I could see how that'd be an issue (trying to get 90ish songs from the old game). I guess that's just the nature of having a Wii, and no external hard drive.
crossrine

Fignuts 05-27-2009 01:45 PM

Yeah, but if they don't do it for 360 and PS3, then that's bullshit.

Disturbed316 05-27-2009 03:40 PM

Urgh, fed up with the GH brand being whored out.

Fignuts 05-27-2009 03:47 PM

As ridiculous as it is, I don't really complain that much, as getting new songs is always awesome.

D Mac 05-27-2009 04:26 PM

funny

Kalyx triaD 05-27-2009 11:51 PM

That 'any combination of instruments' thing is fucking stupid. How would that work? People playing the same chart? If it's 4plyr Face-Off then alright... but they're not saying that.

Fignuts 05-27-2009 11:59 PM

They should, becase that's the best part about it. Unless you can't do it in faceoff. Then it would be really stupid, yes.

RoXer 05-28-2009 12:52 AM

yeah I'm going to use it as a JUKEBOX for all of my PARTIES yeah

RoXer 05-28-2009 12:54 AM

In this room we got booze, coke, hot chicks, donkeys, anal ring toss etc..

But in THIS room...we got Guitar Hero.

4:22 is why I miss the Rhythm Guitar option. Also the whole of "Avalancha". I'm still pissed GH: Metallica didn't have it. They need to put that shit back in before RB3 debuts a "new band option." Ya know they will.

Kane Knight 05-28-2009 08:22 AM

Oh, hush.

Under Pressure

Fignuts 05-29-2009 04:10 AM

If they keep this up with the setlist, this is a definite buy, no matter what stupid gimmick they string on.

Kane Knight 05-29-2009 08:30 AM

AYO! AYO!

D Mac 05-29-2009 04:21 PM

It would be cool if the Santana song was "Smooth".

I wish they'd put Met's version of Turn the Page in here or as DLC.

Kane Knight 05-29-2009 04:29 PM

I wish they'd put Avril Lavigne's version of Fuel on here. that's how that shit should sound. :shifty:"

In The Meantime is one of my favorite song from the 90's.

No Living End :'( If the blink song isn't Carousel, it is a huge lost opportunity. Unless it's something off their upcoming CD

I stopped caring for Guitar Hero when Rock Band came out, but if it has Garbage and Gorillaz, I'm in.

Blitz 06-02-2009 01:18 PM

When Diesel Mac calls me an idiot for my taste in music, I consider it a badge of honour.

D Mac 06-02-2009 03:22 PM

Once again, I win for having "bad" taste in music. Which proves it's pretty special.

Kalyx triaD 06-02-2009 03:23 PM

THERE IS NO "TASTE" IN ART

Except when mentioning Lil Wayne, then you official suck dick.

Fignuts 06-02-2009 03:26 PM

Dunno, ghwt and gh metallica both had better, song selection, and more fun tracks than rb or rb 2's setlists.

D Mac 06-02-2009 03:27 PM

But the DLC side of GH fails.

There is "taste" in art.

I just don't believe good or bad can be latched onto it. Just different.

Yeah, obviously, but that's not what we're talking about.

Pretty sure blitz was talking about default setlists, and as I said, I agree with him on that.

The Optimist 06-02-2009 03:30 PM

I'm hoping against hope that you can choose Gorillaz band members as characters.

Since "good" and "bad" are subjectives in the same way "taste" is, there's no point in artificially distinguishing between what should be permissible.

Least RB2 will be getting updates. But there's not much of a need for a new RB any time soon, anyway. there is a need for a new GH, because of the model they use.

I'll probably get it. The only question is, new, used, or bargain bin? It's not that the GH franchise is a bad one, but I'm not spending a lot of money on it.

D Mac 06-04-2009 03:57 PM

I'd probably buy Van Halen before this.

Are these confirmed, or part of that rumored list going around?

Kalyx triaD 07-09-2009 07:52 PM

Confirmed.

Funky Fly 07-09-2009 08:50 PM

Sick of live songs. Fucking Children of Bodom finally gets in and it's one of their shitty ass newer songs.

FearedSanctity 07-09-2009 09:37 PM

Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal and Bon Jovi? Sold.

I am not excited at all.
Lately I am more excited for track packs and band exclusive games.
I hate more than half the bands on there.
Oh and by the way, why can't they fucking put a Bodom song from the first albums?

When I saw them live back in 2000 and that clip from Amadeus played I flipped out.
Man..has this band gone down hill.

G 07-09-2009 10:08 PM

I will buy this either way because I love guitar games right now, and Rammstein is on it. :(

D Mac 07-09-2009 10:16 PM

Might be one of the worst setlists ever.

Live and remixed. We replace covers with other tracks that are similar in issue.

But CoB already has a presence, so...

Kane Knight 07-09-2009 10:19 PM

Also, why do they have to use Fame for Bowie? There's like 900 other songs I'd pick first.

Kalyx triaD 07-09-2009 10:23 PM

They're trying to be 'indy'.

D Mac 07-09-2009 10:25 PM

Booo at the Beastie song not being Fight for Your Right.

Kalyx triaD 07-09-2009 10:34 PM

It is an odd setlist, but I imagined this event. If your reason for continuing the franchise (GH or RB) is to dive into unlicensed songs and basically update the setlist every once in a while - and not because you have anything to add to the genre technically speaking, this is what we'll run into.

Neversoft is on the 'new songs' train (I really don't have RB3 news to justify adding criticism to Harmonix - but I'm watching them). Now I will be honest, GH5's feature set is lacking. And it's lacking because they don't really have a drive to extend the music-game genre (as Harmonix did from GH to RB). They threw in completely out of monetary reasons. Not that it's such a bad thing, greed provided half the shit we love right now. But if they got no real bleeding edge idea for the genre, all they can do is license new songs.

You see, if they provided some great new gameplay concept I wouldn't give a shit about playing songs that were already charted (up to three times, some of these songs!), because I'm experiencing them in a fresh way. This is why it didn't bother playing something on Rock Band that was on GH before, or playing something on GH's user-friendly chart philosophy when it was on RB prior. But if you're not in the business of moving the genre forward, re-charting tracks will feel old and stale if we're playing it the same damn way.

D Mac 07-09-2009 10:36 PM

I might not even buy this at all. :n:

Blitz 07-10-2009 12:22 AM

All of the songs that were confirmed were also on an apparently leaked full setlist that appeared on Joystiq. So if all those songs are confirmed, I think it's reasonable to assume that the leaked list is legit. The full setlist posted was:

You know, for someone who gets tons of shit for having a shitty taste in music, you sure do seem to like to say what's good and what isn't. I'd think you'd be a little more tolerant at this point.

NEWS FLASH: People have different tastes in music.

Seriously D-mac.

Kinda come off a little douchey. We heard you the first time.

Makes it look like you don't want other people to have fun.

JUST SAYIN

Guitar looks good. Doesn't look like the added or improved anything "play wise".

Fignuts 07-14-2009 09:02 AM

Yeah, I don't need another plastic guitar, thank you.

Kalyx triaD 07-14-2009 09:19 AM

They pretty much admitted it's the same thing except for the touch frets being digital rather than analog (one of those rare cases of downgrading to improve), and the strum bar having texture to it to reduce chances of slipping (good idea). Guess they were pleased with the WT guitar, though I'd say this proves they have little ideas to add to the genre.

Kane Knight 07-14-2009 09:32 AM

When they announced that, they also announced they had a thirteen minute song in the pipes.

honestly, I think the WT Guitar had one of the best improvements ever: Placement of the back button so you can OD/SP with it without moving your hand. It seriously is just hat good an idea. I'm not sure you can fault them for nothing big, though, as RB2 and even TBRB don't have significant improvements on their guitars. And those are the guys who aren't just in it for the money. :p
