Better Movie #3

So it turns out proton packs are great for catching spirits and demons, but they can't really do shit against psychotic alter egos created inside one's own head, and Fight Club was able to defeat Ghostbusters.

Now for our next matchup, we'll see how a narcoleptic schizophrenic fares against a genius with a God complex.

Not that I don't love Mel Brooks movies...it's just that of them Young Frankenstein isn't my favorite and I don't know if I'd put any of them over Fight Club

thedamndest 05-28-2009 04:56 PM

If The Producers caught me on the right day I might put it over Fight Club. Mel Brooks is great because he's generally a filmmaker who does movies that you can watch again and again and they remain funny upon subsequent viewings. You know all the jokes, but you find yourself saying them along with the movie, even if you've seen it 50 times. In comedy, that's the equivalent of being able to watch the Death Star blow up 50 times and still be excited.

That said, I'm going with Fight Club. Sorry Gene.

Nark Order 05-28-2009 05:02 PM

Loved the movie and the musical. Young Frankenstein.

Ben Rodrigues 05-28-2009 05:03 PM

No contest.

ct2k 05-28-2009 05:05 PM

YF is great and all but again, come on

.

I love watching the death star blow up

Jeritron 05-28-2009 05:06 PM

You're all clear kid, now let's blow this thing and go home

I didn't like Fight Club tbh. The ending is just too much of a cop out for me personally.

Lock Jaw 05-28-2009 05:22 PM

I love Fight Club but... Young Frankenstein is a movie I can watch again and again and still get a kick out of. Not that I can't rewatch Fight Club and not enjoy it. But.... uhhhh... Young Frankenstein is all black and white and stuff?

The Gold Standard 05-28-2009 10:47 PM

Fight Club was better.

Destor 05-29-2009 04:30 AM

I voted for Young Frankenstein. It felt right, but can in no way justify it...

The Mackem 05-29-2009 08:03 AM

I swear down I have never seen Young Frankenstein or even knew it existed.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-29-2009 08:44 AM

And yet you beat me in KotF. Justice turns a blind eye to this place sometimes

Ogen 05-29-2009 11:29 AM

I'm with Mackem on the what on earth is young frankenstein train. Chooo chooo.

Downunder 05-29-2009 11:42 AM

Fight Club

toxic rooster 05-29-2009 12:32 PM

Young Frankenstein had its moments, but it was far, far from the best movie Brooks has made.

Maybe Robin Hood: Men in Tights or Blazing Saddles might stand a chance

The Mackem 05-29-2009 02:55 PM

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who has not heard of it.

Pretty much my thoughts. Fight Club gets the nod.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-29-2009 04:23 PM

You know, it's very interesting to read all the outrage on this site when Ghostbusters beat the more critically acclaimed and influential Pulp Fiction, yet the same thing is happening here and everybody's pretty mum.

MAKES YOU THINK

Jeritron 05-29-2009 04:26 PM

Because it was never about what's more critically acclaimed or influential. That was just a vehicle.
Ghostbusters was too. I honestly think the complaints stemmed from a preference of Pulp Fiction, that is enhanced by it's "image", of being a hip gangster movie most liked by males in their 20s (which is 90% of this board)

Jeritron 05-29-2009 04:27 PM

On the same coin, though, Ghostbusters nostalgia was definitely a big factor.

The Mackem 05-29-2009 04:36 PM

I was just surprised that people put Fight Club over Ghostbusters having just put Ghostbusters over Pulp Fiction. I'm not surprised at all that Fight Club is beating some film I've never heard of.

Supreme Olajuwon 05-29-2009 04:41 PM

I don't think YF is the better film, I was just commenting on the misplaced outrage that has now disappeared. That's funny to me. Ha. Ha.

Jeritron 05-29-2009 04:48 PM

If you put Maltese Falcon on here, the same people would probably put 300 over it.
Never underestimate trendiness

Jeritron 05-29-2009 04:49 PM

and of course you'll have that cult of people who will put Donnie Darko over The Godfather

You knew the minefield you were walking accross *shakes fist*

Supreme Olajuwon 05-29-2009 05:04 PM

Voting for Fight Club over Young Frankenstein is immoral

Jeritron 05-29-2009 05:08 PM

I'm curious to see what you throw at Fight Club next.

The Mackem 05-29-2009 05:20 PM

I'm rooting for Ghostbusters II

Nowhere Man 05-29-2009 05:21 PM

Have to go with Young Frankenstein. While not the most well-known of Mel Brooks' movies, it's tied with The Producers as my favorite. Writing comedy that will still make people laugh 40 years later is a lot harder than writing angsty gen-X monologues (or rather, adapting said angsty gen-X monologues from the book). Plus, Gene Wilder could out-act Brad Pitt any day of the week.

Rammsteinmad 05-31-2009 11:49 AM

Never even seen Young Frankenstein, so Fight Club wins by default.

GreySunshine 05-31-2009 01:37 PM

I've never seen Young Frankenstein, and I've only seen parts of Fight Club, so I voted for the one I have seen more of.:-\

Supreme Olajuwon 05-31-2009 01:50 PM

Well I suppose the next round should include a movie people have seen before. That should make it a little more exciting.

Triple A 05-31-2009 03:40 PM

Yeah didn't even really find Young Frankenstein that funny. :'(

Supreme Olajuwon 05-31-2009 04:05 PM

Very displeased with the voter turnout for this one. I've got to offer the people something that they want. And I think I've got just the thing.......

Supreme Olajuwon 05-31-2009 04:27 PM

Jeritron 05-31-2009 04:37 PM

lol Joe Dante

DrA 05-31-2009 07:19 PM

I like Young Frankenstein, but it's not a movie that I would want to watch over and over again. Then again neither is Fight Club. I would have voted for Fight Club in this poll.

Skippord 05-31-2009 11:36 PM

I hate Young Frankenstein and I enjoy Fight Club

I didn't vote but that's what I would have said if I did
