Futurama Back In Production
Have you grown tired of bad TV news? And by bad TV news, I mean bad news about television shows. Bad "TV news" is redundant.
Well, get ready for some good news. No wait, get ready for some great news. No, great doesn't really describe it. Here is some grantasticularly wondergasmiclicious news! (And my 12th grade English teacher said I'd never amount to anything as a writer.) Comedy Central has ordered all brand new episodes of Futurama, and the show has officially gone back into production. An insider told Collider.com that the network has given the series an order for 13 additional episodes to air now that the network has run through all of the series' original episodes and the four full-length DVD movies. This news has sparked rumors that production has officially started again on the series and casting is underway. It's not just good news for Futurama fans, even though the fans are slipping into grinning comas and twitching with joy over the news. And who can blame them? It's one of the few comedy series that just seems to get better and better the longer its run gets. It's the bizarro According to Jim. It's also good news to every show that has been cancelled before its time. Matt Groening, David X. Cohen and company have proved that no show can truly die just because a single-minded network doesn't have the patience to let it develop and expand. Their dedication to the show and its fans is truly astounding, and if new episodes do make it to Comedy Central's doorstep, disappointed fanboys across the universe will have one less thing in life to be disappointed about. http://www.tvsquad.com/2009/06/08/be...in-our-future/ |

ugh. horrible show.
|
AWESOMEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
I'm worried about one thing though. "Casting is underway" ? They're not using the same cast? I'm unfamiliar with showbiz lingo. Please calm my concerns. crossrine |
gertner, if you are serious then you are pretty much my least favorite person in the entire world right now
|
This is great news.
|
Horray!
I love Futurama! :D |

Futurama fans are "bros". |
You break my heart Gertner. My feelings can only be truely expressed in gif form

Then you are pretty much my least favorite person in the entire world right now. Futurama is one of the best animated shows ever created.
|
Do you play Game Cube, wear Abercombie golf shirts and listen to Dave Matthews Band too?

What has any of that got to do with liking the best show of allllllllllll timeeeeeee

I don't do any of those things at all. What kinds of shows do you enjoy?
crossrine |
CSI, Intervention, King of the Hill(WAAAAAY better than Futurama), Without a Trace, Cold Case. Lots of sports shows.
|
I enjoy King of the Hill, but I don't find it funnier than Futurama at all. I don't get what you hate about it. Is it because it's nerdy? If so, that's understandable, but just say that.

I actually kind of feel bad for you, knowing how much your sense of humor must suck if you can't find Futurama to be an enjoyable experience. |
The only people who I've noticed who find Futurama funny are the better fucking losers on the planet.
btw, I'm going through horrible nicotine withdrawls right now, so i'll probably apologize later for this. until then FUTURAMA IS THE BIGGEST OVER_RATED PIECE OF SHIT SHOW ON TV! |

That is the stupidest generalization I have ever heard. Shows like Futurama, Simpsons, King of the Hill, Family Guy.. etc.. they all target the SAME demographic. The fact that you're insulting people who watch Futurama is laughable, because those same people probably watch King of the Hill too. What does that say about you if you and a bunch of douchebags find the same thing to be funny?
|
Futurama is nerd comedy. It's a niche audience. King of the Hill, Simpsons and Family Guy, totally different.
|
What? Not at all. How is it a nerd comedy? Because it's sci-fi instead of present day? Since when do you have to be a nerd to enjoy sci-fi?
Edit: No.. just no, I mean come on you are reaching here. The style of comedy used in Futurama is no different than the other shows. |
Pretty happy to hear this but...

|
AND.. that still doesn't change the fact that the people who watch Futurama also watch those other shows.. so making a generalization about the type of people who watch it is still stupid.
|
I enjoyed 3 of the films, only really hated The Beast With A Billion Backs but even that had it's moments.
Oh, and the ending to Into The Wild Green Yonder, they just felt they had to do that in case it was the last episode and it kinda felt forced. |
It's a really horrible show. and i know lots of people who watch simpsons, family guy and don't watch futurama, cause well it's awful.
|
Gertner, you like techno music and glow sticks. Your taste is awful.
|
and i know plenty of people who watch all of these shows and still don't fit the stereotype you created from thin air
this kind of logic works on both sides |
And you watch the Hills and American Idol, too. You have no taste. Shut the fuck up.

You know that bit when Fry discovers he has Billions of dollars in his bank account and passes out?
Thats me right now. |
All of those things are horribly douchey.
|
Family Guy has recurring bits about musicals and barbershop quartets. You don't consider that nerdy?
|
It's at least funny.
|
Futurama is the GREATEST.
|
Family guy is not better than Futurama, nor is it funnier.

Venture Brothers is better than all of them, so there.
|
Venture Brothers is pretty hilarious, but I would have to put Futurama above it still. Venture Brothers is definitely funnier than Family Guy or King of the Hill though.
|
King of the Hill is funny because of its subtlety, which is something non-existent in the McFarland universe.
|
Family Guy is in your face, shock humor. That and played out references to pop culture absurdity, like David Hasseloff and Gary Oldman beating up Hitler, or something ridiculous.
If some people want to laugh at that, fine. I don't really think it's skillfull or entertaining humor. I prefer the wit and subtleties of The Simpsons (seasons 3-9) Family Guy can't hold a candle to that. Also, King of the Hill isn't a favorite show of mine, but I respect it's humor. It's subtle and smart. I feel like the majority of Family Guy's jokes are geared to the meathead americans who prefer their humor to be direct and mindless, as a result of IQs that match their shoe size. Even The Simpsons have been guilty of pandering to this in recent years with Homer Simpson. It's a sad state of affairs when the average viewer would rather see a character make a fat joke, or fall on their face, than laugh at the hilarious musings of the Van Houten family. |
Also I can think of at least two episodes of Futurama that were so touching I almost cried. When was the last time anyone anywhere emotionally connected with a Family Guy episode?

Hey, you watch the episode with Fry's Dog and tell me you don't well up.

If you're going to make asinine comments that make you sound like a complete retard, at least try to keep your insults consistant. |
The great thing is it will be HD like the movies.

I enjoyed the 4 movies, they weren't as good as the episodes though, I find. LOVED Bender's Game though.

Can't wait. Only seen the first movie though. Need to check the rest out.
|
First one was the best. Second was terrible. Third was "meh". Fourth was ok.
|
Psssht Bender's Game was the best <3
crossrine |
Gertner, what? How can Futurama be nerd comedy but it's main demographic is somehow preppy, Abercrombie wearing, Dave Matthews loving "bros"? You're combining two conflicting stereotypes here. IT JUST DOESN'T MATCH UP!
|
I don't know the order but the one with David Cross as the monster from another universe was retarded.
|
This is AWESOME!

Wow, unless its the most hilarious show of all time, this new version of the show will fail abysmally.
|
Oh good, my boxset that says complete collection still is, as this will be horrible.
THANKS PENNY-PINCHING FOX |
suddenly I'm very sad
|
I'm not watching it :/ It'd be like watching The Simpsons with a new voice cast. The voices make the show.
|
Talk about a sting in the tail.
I can't imagine the cast were after a lot of money, I suspect it's more to do with Fox being cheap. |
because it's not just Fry, Bender and Leela. It's everyone! Zoidberg, Zapp Brannagin, Profffessor, Nixon etc. it'd be just wrong.
|
Wow, this is going to suck. Gutted.
|
Quote:
I don't think the voice cast would demand loads of money for doing the voices. Like The Destroyer said, I think it's just Fox wanting to be cheap. I'm going to watch the first episode with the new cast just to see what it's like. I'm sure I'll hate it though, and if so, I won't watch any of the new episodes. Futurama was the best thing going for Groening at the moment, with The Simpsons losing there magic a long time ago, Futurama was probably all that he had left. Now, because of Fox, it looks like Groening is screwed. |
If this story is true, I imagine most of the audience will turn off after the first line. "Good news, everyone!" will not work with a different voice.

Awful news. Of course, I'll still czech it out because it's Futurama, but how the fuck? I mean, I could understand like, maybe one of the voice actors, but all of them basically. Especially considering many of them do multiple roles on the show. Stupid. Gonna be terrible.
crossrine |
Highly doubt they will get anyone to replace Billy West. Idiots.
crossrine |
Wow, another FOX fuck-up. What a surprise...
|
No way this is real. No way. I deny this.
|
This news is terrible.
The new episodes/films they made weren't great to be honest, and a new series was slightly worrying. With new voices for the characters, it's gonna be worse. To be honest, they would be better off creating new characters and doing something that's more of a spin off set in the same world than attempt to keep everything the same. At least that way old characters could make cameos. |
THIS IS WORSE THEN WHEN THEY REPLACED ALL THE VOICES ON POKEMON!:mad:
|
Holy shit that is Retarded
|
They might as well scrap this shit because I absolutely will not tolerate ANY new voice actors for the regulars. It's unacceptable and we deserve better as fans for our loyalty to the series.
So to whoever made this decision: I hope he can see me from up here. I'm doing this as hard as I possibly can...:|[/Ignignokt]:foc: |
or, to be more relevant: BITE MY SHINY, RED-HOT, FLAMING, METAL ASS...wait a minute...red-hot, flaming metal ass?! I'll be right back (puts his ass in the ocean) AHH:o...THAT'S BETTER.
|
I've already said this will suck now, and I stand by that. The voice work is one of the best aspects of Futurama. I could handle Katey Sagal leaving, as her voice is easily replicated, but they'll never in a million years get anyone half as good as Billy West, John DiMaggio, Phil LaMarr, Tress MacNeille an Maurice LaMarche.
|
The cast were not at the Comic Con panel, which removes any chance of this being some kind of weird promotional swerve. :(
David X Cohen did seem hopeful that they would get them back on board though. |

Thank you for voicing your opinion, Gertner.

Holy crap lol. I've gone through so much turmoil reading this thread through in the past 10 minutes. Happy, angry, sad, but now... I AM HAPPY.
I knew the actors would come back, it would be so stupid if they didn't get them. |
