***CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND*** - Street Fighter IV Tournament
 

So I've decided to get the ball rolling with this thing. I'll start the first round in couple of weeks once I get your guys' feedback on a few things. Things being:

- Should it be double elimination?

It would suck to have to face Kalyx in the first round making it almost pointless to practice and take it seriously. Making it double elimination would be more fun for the mid-level experienced players. Even the NEWBS would enjoy the rule.

- Best of 7? Best of 9?

It'll be 3 round matches, 99 time limit, higher seed on the RIGHT side. But should it be best of 7 or 9? Which brings me to my next point...

- 4 character MINIMUM

This rule isn't debatable in my book. You'll have to be well-versed in more than 1 character. If it was best of 9 it would make for interesting strategies/matchups. More of a mind game. Save your best for last? Start off with your best? Who knows.

*Edit* Not sure if I was clear. If we do best of 7, then it is possible to win using only your top 2 characters. You can sweep the other guy 4-0 by using your top two characters. You don't have to play the first 4 matches with 4 seperate characters. Just know that if you use your top 2 characters in the first 4 rounds, you may be at a disadvantage for the last 3 if you're not strong with your other characters. Like I said, ALL IN THE MATCHUPS

I was thinking about this and I dunno. For the experienced players, it probably wouldn't be a problem getting around him. For the mid-level guys it might be. I dunno. Need feedback on that.


QUICK TIPS:

- Definitely get in as much practice as you can. I will set this up in 2 weeks. Maybe even 1 depending on how quick this goes.

- DEFINITELY practice against other TPWWers. Try to memorize their techniques/patterns to give you an edge. Remember, it's not the character but the person controlling him who you're fighting.

Leave Sagat legal, he's legit. Seth can go fuck himself. I like the best of seven, nice number and it gives you more than enough chances to get your act together.

So whenever you start up an entry list, count me in by default.

Just curious - why would it be a disadvantage for someone of average talent, to go against Sagat?

The last Street Fighter game I played was for Super NES (SSFII). The only reason I can think of, is perhaps Sagat's fireballs are too fast? :?:

No, he's probably just got that least amount of weakness of any character in the game. His moves have high priority and he's very good at close range and far away. He just walks slow...that's about it.

Yeah and both his specials can break focus attacks and his normal moves are very strong and his ultra is very powerful.

I think the issue with Sagat in IV had to do with some chart that rated him as top fighter or in top 3 based on win percentage vs each other fighter.

Sagat is top tier, but these lists are often formed by 'great' players who use them a certain way and set the precedent. In my personal experience, most of the Sagat's I faced blew ass. And how many of his players chose him on his listing alone? So yeah, Sagat's in. I don't even give a shit about tier lists.

I don't understand the 4 character minimum concept.

You would if you played my Cammy or Sakura. Not only would it make things interesting, there's a meta-game involved as far as choosing characters. Something like choosing your leader in KoF games. You're gonna want to face my Vega or Ken (*shudders*) before my girls - this element presents that chance.

Akuma's easy as Hell. He's like a bonus round in Championship Mode. RoXy's pretty good with him, though.

I should be 3rd seed. I punched Funky Fly all over his jeans, when we played.

God damn Capcom and no 'open' replay function.

My abel was the most effective. Beat his akuma once with him. But every other time he's beaten me.

His Fei Long is good too. Was satisfying when I finally beat him. He could still prolly take me with him 9/10.

I see he wants Fei Long to be his main but my conclusion on Fei Long is that HE FUCKING SUCKS AND HAS NO VIABLE ATTACKS. I'm not speaking in a tier sense or any shit like that, either. His move list is just weak and I'm not 'afraid' of him at all. His fire spin kick thingy has ass range and is good for 'panicked last resort' at best. His dash punch doesn't have the speed and range of his HDRemix self. His special throw is a 'screenshot move'. And they didn't even give him an overhead normal for all his trouble. Flashy Ultra, though.

I don't even know who I'd main with, but it's definitely between Abel, E. Honda, and Ken. Maybe Vega too, dunno.

Fuckin' fuck, still can't get by Roxer's Akuma. Thought I had him on the ropes as Sagat, cuz it's round 1 and I got half my bar and he needs like 2 hits to go down, right? Like fuckin' Sodom and Gomorrah, it's raining fire and I'd dead in the (firey) water the rest of the fight. :'(

Had my first online session since may, with funky. From the beginning, it showed. Was getting my ass handed to me, but when I got down to 1-5, I got back into the swing of things and ended up going 9-7 when it was all over. Feels good, cause I thought he was gonna walk all over me.

Oh, and sorry roxy. Having not played in so long, I didn't want to play one of the strongest players here right off the bat.

So sfter playing funky, the game decided to put me up against 50 people in a row who are way out of my league.

Now I hate this game and I don't ever want to play it ever again.

What mode were you playing?

Funny thing about last night, I played 3 of our tourney guys, 2 of whom I played before a long time ago. First time I played Roxer and Fig I got slaughtered. Last night, facing them again I did alright, even though I came out losing the series both times. My strategies fell apart when I played Roxer waaay back, then I got totally demoralized and couldn't do shit. Jeanpunchfest '09 round 1 against Figburt was a disaster too. As I recall, I couldn't keep my cool and kept getting caught off guard. Massive slaughter, like 1-10.

Also, I need to stop playing Zangief. Try as I might, I cannot use him consistently, even though I actually like him.

INTENSE session with roxer just now. Lost the series 9-10, but I'm liking where this is going. His akuma still destroys most of my characters, but my abel is starting to get through and pick up some rounds. And his fei long isn't giving my blanka and abel the trouble he was before. Should have used my honda more tho, as he's one of my main guys.

I cannot wait to see Super V's gameplay. I'm awestruck. On one hand, RoXer has some legitimacy regarding skill evaluation, on the other hand - I'M FUCKING GOOD.
