Santino Marella looked quite good in the ring on Superstars

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RDBUVjBre2g&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RDBUVjBre2g&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Granted, his opponent was The Brian Kendrick, who is excellence, but Santino seems to be showing off more athletic stuff, and some of his ring work was quite observed. I like the way he lifted his sore leg while giving Kendrick a hip toss. And man, is the guy over?

The Pope 07-06-2009 09:34 PM

They fucked his character up

IC Champion 07-06-2009 11:37 PM

I always liked Santino, I think it's because he has what is called "Charisma", something alot of guys in the business these days lack.

Theo Dious 07-06-2009 11:45 PM

If impersonating his imaginary twin sister didn't bury Santino, nothing possibly can.

Considering the character he portrayed and the fact that he could pull it off, the Santina thing was pretty brilliant.

And the segment where he read the poem in the ring while Santina listened on the titantron and continued to react to the poem well after Beth Phoenix interrupted was the most I've laughed while watching Raw... maybe ever.

#1-norm-fan 07-07-2009 12:01 AM

On a side note, why does WWE feel the need to turn any heel who is getting over into a face? Ugh.

Gertner 07-07-2009 02:50 AM

I'm pretty sure the WWE could bury Santino is a 100ft hole and he'd get over.

I dunno...I think he works both sides of the fence pretty well.

Mr. Nerfect 07-07-2009 03:56 AM

Santino is one of the few people on RAW who is actually entertaining.

GD 07-07-2009 03:58 AM

What Noid said.

XIII 07-07-2009 08:41 AM

santino is with out a doubt one of the most entertaining, always gettin a laugh, they need to do something with him, make him a little more serious, heel turn or something, dont waste him, he has the talent.... he's gonna end up like goldust and just be a joke that no one takes seriously... which is sad cause goldust definately had IT at one time and could have been a major player instead of a joke... but thats the same road santinos been goin down... they (wwe) needs to take tthe time to build up better story lines for the i.c. title and the u.s. title and give them belts more meaning.... bring back the european title for santino and have him defend it with his life and make him do anything to keep it... a little manical twist.... i know theres already too many titles and none of them mean shit anymore but it could be good... have him bring the title in himself and just declare himself the european champ and (like the million dollar belt, the tna legends belt, and the f.t.w. belt.)

That match mostly served to make me sad about Kendrick.

Mr. Nerfect 07-07-2009 02:06 PM

I am also sad about Kendrick, but I think the man has enough backing within the company. A lot of talent (some with a lot of promise) have been dropped, but Kendrick keeps hanging on (despite "teh heat"), and is even featured in the RAW opening despite apparently being in the doghouse when he was drafted over.

Kendrick also got pinned with a roll-up. Santino is a guy the company loves, and for good reason, so if they really didn't like Kendrick, they could have had Santino go over cleanly to build some momentum for him. I think this is merely dues time for TBK, and when he gets his head together, and the company feels like it again, he'll get another serious shot. I mean, the guy skyrocketed last year -- with no real reason at all. I can see it happening again, if Kendrick is smart about things.

There are three men that I really want to see Shawn Michaels feud with before he hangs up the boots: John Morrison, CM Punk and The Brian Kendrick. Here's hoping we get to see that one day.

Mr. Nerfect 07-07-2009 02:09 PM

Santino Marella still reminds me of early Kurt Angle in many ways. He's got a legitimate background, and a goofy persona. If they played up the MMA a bit more, and played down the goofiness just a little bit (at least in the ring), I can't see why Marella can't climb the ranks a bit.

I just thought I'd make this thread, because a lot of people talk down Santino's work. I don't think it's so much that the guy can't work, as it is he was given shitty opponents early on, and was then booked as a joke. Give the man the right opponents, and treat him a bit more seriously, and I think you have a winner -- especially with RAW being so stale.

One angle I've wanted to see for ages is a surprise Royal Rumble winner who people really can't see headlining a WrestleMania. The next night on RAW, the top stars are all talking about how it is a joke, and that they know things aren't going to go down like that. Cue this winner, in a pimped out suit, acting like they are now a major star, frustrated that they aren't being taken serious, and as if the shot they won isn't set in stone. You could even have Vince McMahon try and strip them of their title shot because they're "not right for business," which can be used to fuel some face momentum for them as they prove themselves by keeping their title shot. Santino Marella would be perfect for this.

Dave Youell 07-07-2009 06:07 PM

Honestly, I haven't enjoyed a match from WWE TV that much since Taker/Shawn in April

It was something different and old school, really liked that

Mr. Nerfect 07-07-2009 08:31 PM

I can't wait to see The Brian Kendrick work with Evan Bourne. I just thought I'd share that.

God bless you Noid, I love Kendrick. Maybe more than you do, honestly. But at the moment, Kendrick is a jobber. Shawn Micheals wouldn't touch him with a ten foot barge pole.

Mr. Nerfect 07-07-2009 08:43 PM

It's kind of sad, because I am certain that The Brian Kendrick was going to be the WWE's choice to win Money in the Bank this year, until all this weed stuff started. Kendrick unofficially won the WWE Championship, which is something a man of his size wouldn't do unless the company loved him. And wasn't he used in a WrestleMania poster, or something, or was that a fake?

If it was meant to be Kendrick who won MITB this year, it's kind of funny that CM Punk arguably only won last year because Jeff Hardy got suspended, and this year because Kendrick had heat on him.

You enjoyed this match more than Morrison vs. Edge and Morrison vs. Punk? You're an odd fella.

IC Champion 07-08-2009 05:09 PM

HBK/Taker was easily better than either of those matches.

#1-norm-fan 07-08-2009 05:43 PM

I think he was asking if he enjoyed the Santino match better than those two. Not Taker-Shawn.

And lol @ Santino literally eliminating himself.

Because it goes against the grain of what we have all been programmed to watch

Taker/Shawn has been the best match this decade, nothing is touching that.

Maybe Do Fixer Vs Blood Generation, but that's it

There are actually enough matches going on like that on the Samckdown brand to say that it is kinda "WWE style" now...

Smackdown style I guess.... amazing how matches like that apparently aren't allowed to happen on raw lol.

It makes me sad to see The Brian Kendrick becoming the WWE Champion just last year. If that man had his head on straight, he would have won Money in the Bank, and would have officially won the WWE Title. Well, that's what I like to think, anyway.

IC Champion 07-11-2009 12:06 AM

LOL, Brian Kendrick is far to small to ever hold the title, not only is he too short, but he looks about 150 pounds.

I remember when JBL got his "minor push".

Dave Youell 07-11-2009 12:21 PM

Techically he didn't hold the title, it was never recognized as a win

However, he is the longest reigning champion in scramble match history

Yeah... he held the title in a way that doesn't will not go down in history of him every holding the title. I mean... he didn't even physically hold it. It seemed to have pleased certain people without making others say 'What the fuck is that man doing with a world title" though. So in that way, well done WWE.

Nah, I had a pretty good feeling he was going to win it. I mean, who else would have? TBK was getting pushed harder than Shelton Benjamin and MVP when it happened. He was being fairly well protected, and got to pick up consistent victories against guys like Jeff Hardy. Technically, he ended Vladimir Kozlov's undefeated streak.

Of course, the man hit a wall now, but that's his own fault. The WWE didn't even joke about putting the WWE Title on Shelton Benjamin and MVP in the Scramble Match. The Kendrick got to hold it for longer than anyone in any of the Scramble Matches.

No, he's not officially recognised as the WWE Champion, but tentivatively, for about eight minutes, he was the scheduled champion. That's closer than most people come.
