No Need For Alarm

Funky Fly 07-26-2009 08:02 PM

Wow, I don't have to do fuck all, since most of the shit I like has been listed. Still, I have some suggestions:

- Lyrics Born
- Anything on the Definitive Jux record label
- go to www.adultswim.com and see if you can still find any of their collabos. They actually have good shit.
- DangerDoom
- Lupe Fiasco
- Jurassic 5
- Dilated Peoples
- Breakestra (it's actually funk, but they have rap in some of their songs)
- Ozomatli (hip hop, latin and rock fusion, pretty good shit)

For more mainstream stuff:

- AZ
- Nas (Illmatic, Stillmatic and beyond. I sorta suggest you ignore most of his stuff between Illmatic and Stillmatic)
- Jay-Z ( all of his stuff, but get as many remixes of the Black Album as you can)
- Busta Rhymes
- Snoop Dogg (really, just Doggystyle, Tha Doggfather, Tha Last Meal and Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss)
- LL Cool J

Testicle 07-26-2009 08:32 PM

Gang Starr
Nas
AZ
Rakim
Royce da 5'9''

I would download Dangermouse's remix of the Black Album by Jay-Z. Although I presume you would already have the Grey Album and if you don't......WTF

Its like one of my favourite albums.

Funky Fly 07-27-2009 12:32 PM

You know, Meth & Red put out Blackout! 2 recently... AND IT'S FUCKING AMAZING.

Haze 07-27-2009 01:28 PM

Gonna need to check that one out for sure.

El Vaquero de Infierno 07-27-2009 01:49 PM

While RDD is asking for suggestions, I'll piggy back on top of his requests.

People, give me some good, early 90's G-Funk albums.

I've already got "The Chronic," and "Death Certificate," and will eventaully get Snoop's "Doggystyle," so give suggestions of other albums of this subgenre that are worth checking out.

Gonna re-iterate here that everybody should listen to B. Dolan. He's the co-founder of Strange Famous Records with Sage Francis and very few seem to know who he is, even those who dig Sage.

He just dropped a free mixtape. http://www.urb.com/permalink/6658/B....Download).html Download that shit.

Funky Fly 07-27-2009 09:01 PM

Ok, d/ling. In turn I expect you to grab some Lyrics Born.

Gonzo 07-30-2009 10:23 PM

Shit wanted to get the first page but anyways:

Atmosphere
Felt (Slug of Atmosphere & Murs) as originally suggested by Haze FX
AZ
Big Daddy Kane
Big L
BlackStar (Mos Def & Talib Kweli) — get their solo shit too
Brother Ali
Celph Titled
Dead Prez
Dr Dre
Dynospectrum
Rakim
Gang Starr
Geto Boys (and/or Scarface)
Wu-Tang Clan (plus any of their solo shit, search up the individual members if you don't know)
Ill Bill
Immortal Technique
Jadakiss
Jedi Mind Tricks
Killarmy
Kool G Rap
KRS One
Method Man & Redman (specifically the first Blackout! album, the kind of album you play from track one to the end without skipping anything)
Nas
Notorious BIG
NWA
2Pac
OutKast
Papoose
Run DMC
Sunz of Man
A Tribe Called Quest
WC (Westcoast Connection)

Kinda went through my iTunes and listed a lot of my favorites. A lot of different flavor in there, definitely something you will like.

Really? I was let down, and I love almost everything WTC affiliated. Blackout! 1 was fucking murder, every single track. Blackout! 2 definitely has some skippable tracks in my opinion, which is a great let down for me personally.

Really??

I am so out of the loop now a days when it comes to hip hop..

Funky Fly 08-05-2009 09:53 PM

It sounds really mainstream, but it's good shit.

Anybody Thrilla 08-06-2009 11:51 AM

Can't touch the first Blackout! .

Gonzo 08-06-2009 06:58 PM

Definitely didn't like the direction of Blackout! 2.
