Awesome. As in the old games, you can choose to be the Marine, Alien, or Predator. |
Yeah, really been looking forward to this.
|
Everything I heard about this game is great. Should be fun multiplayer.
|
Oh hell yes. I loved the AvP shooters from a few years back. If this one's on the same level as those, I'm going to be a very happy camper.
Also, I'm glad they're going back to doing the franchise properly, no more of this "let's set it on present-day Earth" bullshit. |
I remember the old school early 90s beat em up.
|
Yeah, Capcom hooked it up. Never got rereleased, though.

I cannot tell you how happy this makes me. |
Very cool.
|
this will be a first day buy for me
also thinking about getting the hunters edition |
How have I not heard about this game? Those trailers look immense.

Demo in 24hrs. Deathmatch Mode on map, "Refinery", all three races available.
|
I'm going to be playing the story on the day it comes out if 3 other people want to play it on co-op?
|
Is there story co-op? That's one mode I haven't heard of. And is it for each class?
|

There's co-op horde mode. I have not heard of a co-op story mode.

very good then
|
cant wait for this demo
a problem i hope doesnt happen is in survival mode if it doesnt have matchmaking it will suck just like halo odst did any news on matchmaking? |
That's a good point, but I'm hoping their survivor mode will have matchmaking. I think ODST's Firefight couldn't use matchmaking because of the mode's potentially long playtime (all forms of matchmaking game online are limited by some time cap). Firefight was a special case because of it's ambitious nature (fucking 2hr games for some people), but the survivor mode in AvP looks to be more manageable.
|
DL'ing the demo now, impressions later. Now let me practice some quotes...
"Get to the choppah!" "Game over, man... GAME OVER!" "Stay away from her you BITCH!" "You ugly mother fucker." |
Interface was less than stellar. It's not bad, but you will appreciate other game's lobbies and menu interface after messing through this. Hell, I played as an Alien first by mistakenly picking it.
The Alien's ability to cling to all surfaces is really disorienting. Another feature to get used to, that I haven't read about, was a jumping move to walls by looking at the surface. Combine this first-person wall crawling with the Alien 3 signature fish lens effect and I felt queasy playing a 1st person game for the first time in a long time. If it doesn't get to you you're tougher than me. But after a while I got used to it, and it was cool stalking other players from the walls. However, instincts have me running along the floor anyway. There's a bit of automatic clinging that I don't fully understand where you will cling to a wall or climb a ledge that as thrown me off at times. The arrow showing you the floor helps a bit. Most of the games I played had Alien players dominating, and we'll talk about that in a bit. The Predator is fucking cool to use in theory, but there's some function issues that you need to know. You do not start the match with Pred's signature weapons. You have your wrist blades for melee, vision sights, super leap, and cloak. The shoulder cannon, staff, blade disk, and proxy mine(!) must be gathered throughout the map. Perhaps it's a balancing issue, but it kinda kills the effect of being Predator to me. Once you get stocked, Pred's still pretty cool, but the map clearly favors Alien and Marine classes. The super leap means nothing in this demo's map, and you're left running around in the corridors that the Marines fills with bullets and Aliens swarm like roaches. You do, however, feel powerful locking on the signature triangular sight on some prey and scoring some execution kills. This two beasts have the much promoted execution kills and they feel good landing them. They're well balanced, no different if not less effective than Halo's Assassin kill or CoD and BC's instant melee kill. With this game you have a cool animation (even from the receiving end, getting executed by the Alien is awesome), but the game goes on. You can receive damage during this time, or even have some sarcastic gamer pull one off on you right after. You will learn to pick and choose when to do it. And now the Marine. People... play as the fucking Marine. He's way more capable than you think, and it's an awesome experience. It's legit scary walking the hallways with creatures running about, low light, your motion sensor blipping. The tension from Aliens where they first search the colony is recreated well. Once you pick up something you look about, but there's a sort of panic when you lose the signal. The motion sensor is just that and yes players are stalking you with that in mind. It doesn't a lot of shots to put any of the other players down, but your ass is grass up close (unless you find that shotty). If you wanna be a menace, be Alien. You want to feel superior, Predator. For atmosphere, go with Marine. Now for general analysis... This game is detailed but not too sharp. It just seems 'late last gen' in the graphics department. The melee attacks seem to track similar (but not as jarring) to CoD's Commando lunge. I felt it was pretty unnecessary and it screwed me over a few times. There's actually a hit-stun effect on hit, and I have mixed feelings about seeing this in an FPS. Still, I'd say this is a pretty fucking developed melee system compared to other FPS games. Weak and strong attacks along with blocking ability almost makes a meta-game out of close combat (one the Marine draws the short straw in). Kind odd playing this sort of game with no crouch ability. Sure it would be needed in this sort of concept game but it still feels weird. The Alien is a fucking beast and the class has been winning game after game. He's tough on the Marine and Predator because you can barely get a view on the speedy fucks. Good players using there wall crawling will frustrate you into a paranoid mess. Pray you see them coming first with their low HP, but other than that you're fucked in most encounters. I don't know if this is a sign of unbalance, I'm not too skilled yet. You only have FFA deathmatch to play in the demo but I think team DM would have served the concept better, so I'm eagerly awaiting the full game. So love walking around as a Marine and suddenly turned around to see an Alien about to off you. Awesome. |
Kalyx, I suppose you and I will have to play this online together then.
|
gonna have to download demo when I get home

Is it only on Live?
|
I don't know if PSN has it. It's definitely up on Steam.
|
Played the demo. It's ok, nothing special.
|
played it last night. it was ok. I hated using the Alien b/c it was the hardest to control.
|
After the confusion you'll be seeing the world through a bug's eyes. I started toying with Marines hopping about the walls. The hiss button is pretty cool too.
|
The Predator seems the most balanced. He's got the speed, if you pick up the shoulder cannon it's pretty sweet, and the cloaking ability. Also you can change his vision from normal to heat vision
|
Demo was alright probally just a rental for me.

I disagree with that i just played a match were the predator won a match, mainly because he was using the cloaking ability all the time making him hard to see. The map being as dark as it is doesn't help matters either.
|
Aliens can see the Predator cloak or not.
|
Well, I was excited, til I saw this was basically another "put a cool skin on a bland FPS" deal.
GAY. |
Are you fucking stupid? Quality open for discussion, but this is not some paint by numbers FPS. What the fuck?

They can.
|
Yeah not gonna lie, this is pretty much nothing like other FPS games. Played the demo, and while it is nothing spectacular, it is very different from your average FPS.
|
I retract my reply inquiring KK is "fucking stupid". That part anyway. Not my style.
|
Pretty sure Kane Knight thinks all FPS games are bland, regardless.

Damn. |
I'm unsure on what to get :/.
I've just finished Bioshock so i'm quite eager for 'Bioshock 2'. Still want 'Mass Effect 2' but i'd rather get 'Dragon Age' out of the way and do another few play through's on the first. This looks pretty hawt though... I need to break my leg or something to get some uninterrupted gaming time in. |
Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2 seem more like 'meaningful' purchases. I'm just a mark for rock/paper/scissor gameplay and the AvP franchise.
|
Aliens can see the predators and the marines even through walls, but the marines can't see the predators until it's to late.
|
This game is hella balanced, I won soundly with all three races and I got proficient with their abilities. Forcing people into a brawl with Pred is ideal, and that 'death frisbee' is ridiculous. You can play some dirty mind games with Alien and confuse your prey. Rush them then hop on the ceiling and run away, watch them scurry, hit and run again. And since Aliens can bust light bulbs, you can make things hard for Marine. And Marines aren't as weak up close as I thought. If you counter right you can escape death.
People are playing FFA with honor rules and basically making it species deathmatch, and that's still fun as Hell. This game can't lose, I'm totally gay for it. |
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9-djJ0AFamk&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9-djJ0AFamk&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
So all three species have their own mode highlighting their tone; Marines have Survival Mode, Aliens have Infestation Mode, and Predators have Predator Hunt. Each mode perfect for the species playstyle and mythology. This game rocks. |
From the looks of the 3 modes...
Survival mode- Pretty much like Horde im assuming Investation Mode - any zombie type game where you turn the other players one by one Predator Hunt- Like the mode on Chronicles of Riddick where one player is Riddick Vs a group of normal people. |
Yes.
|
The demo is bad ass. I am sweating this game.

All the online modes:

Anyone play this yet? I tried to pick it up but my store wont have it till Friday? Curious on how the story is and how long.
|
campaigns are short but still good
and the multiplayer takes FOREVER to get in a game and even after your match it automatically takes you back to the menu and sometimes it wont fill up the whole lobby with other players |

Until of course you like something not rated high, then it's about taste again. But nice try. Haven't seen ad populim in a bit.
|
After giving it a good solid playthrough, I can safely say this is almost 100% just the game I played back in 1999. The good news is that I quite enjoyed it back then, and my tastes in games haven't changed all that dramatically since, so I enjoyed this one as well.
Is it a formulaic horror-shooter? Definitely. Could it have been done a lot better? Most likely. Is it still fun anyway? I thought so. It doesn't ever really knock one out of the park, but it's by no means a bad game. |
Picked this up yesterday and played through the first 3 chapters of the Marine Campaign. From what I've played the Marine Campaign definitely plays like your typical by the books horror shooter, nothing too special but it's certainly not bad. I can't comment on the other two campaigns yet but I am looking forward to then.
It seems that a few of the major gaming site reviewers are picking this apart more then the players. The Graphics certainly aren't as bad as some people are making them out to be and the controls don't seem to be that unresponsive (Although as I said I've only played as the Marine so far) Might also be worth noting that Facehuggers are fucking annoying. |

Seriously miss this game. Marked out for the Alien3 (Furious) and AvP movie (Temple) maps. Awesome. |
