I don't think there has been a thread on this yet.

The viral marketing campaign is awesome.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3382/...35da10.jpg?v=0 I reccomend calling that number and messing around with it for a while |
With Weta working on this, it's gonna be badass.
|
i cant wait for this movie looks awsome

District 9 (D9)
I caught the trailor for this the other day. It looks pretty interesting if you like these different SCI-FI type movies. They are putting a lot of effort into thier marketing for this. You can tell by the website. I would post the Trailer here, but You Tube is blocked at work.
www.d-9.com/ And real quick District 9 is based on Alive in Joburg, a short film directed by Neill Blomkamp, Sharlto Copley, Simon Hansen and Shanon Worley. Copley also portrayed one of the interviewed policemen. The short film is about aliens landing in South Africa and becoming confined to a specific area and forced to work. In the movie these aliens are called "Non-Humans" and are overseen by Multi-National United (MNU), a company which is utilizing alien technology. |
Yea I saw a poster for this last night at the movie theater but I didn't get to see the trailer, so I looked it up this morning. I think it looks really interesting.
|
|
It's a Peter Jackson film so you know it's gonna be good.
|
He's only producing it
|
He's still involved.
|
True, but that doesn't mean it's his movie. He's throwing money at it because he thinks it should be made.
That's about it, although that is a decent consolation of its own |
District 9
Any love for this movie?
- I'm hoping it's a sleeper hit. Reminds me of the TV series V |
I'm down.
I'm just wondering why the R rating? Alien blood & guts, a few too many swear words? |
Is it already out or is it this coming Friday?
|
This weekend.
|
|
Looks interesting.
|
Going to see it tomorrow. PUMPED.
|
Movie was awesome. Might drag a little in the beginning for some but it's worth it for what it leads up to.
|
Yeah, I was seriously amazed at how good this movie actually is.
|
Ok.
I'm liking the direction of this  |
I'll put it this way. I went in expecting some sort of Sci-Fi, typical summer action flick type deal.
The "action" is fricking amazing, the story is superb, and it's really gripping. It's even emotional. The whole Sci-fi thing really takes a backseat too. Yeah, there are aliens, but they're characters with people like qualities, and not just alien creatures. |

Very very solid summer movie. Not a great movie by any means but totally worth your time.
|
I thought it was a very good film.
I am left tasting for some back story and closure. It is very much like Cloverfield, where you come in, see some shit, and thats it, no explanations. But if you can get over that, it is fucking brilliant. They really make you feel for the main characters |
Really fucking good. Best movie I've seen this year for sure. The action is tremendous, but the real greatness of the movie comes in the performances from Sharlito Copley and Jason Cope. Not often a movie comes along that I'm comfortable with calling unique, but this one is. Blomkamp created a world here, and there goddamned well better be a sequel.
|
I think most people are either going to say great or stupid. It was so far from the science-fiction cliches that I couldn't get into at first. Once I told my brain to shut up and just accept what was happening I loved it. I went with three other friends and three of us loved it and the other hated it. But he hates a lot of things so I wouldn't trust his opinion.
|
This movie was really good.
I enjoyed it. District 10 as the sequel? |
was anyone else kind of disappointed they didnt sho the interspecies prostitution and how that would work?
|
LOL, no
|
:shifty:

so how do you all rate this pretty much? has a really high score on imdb which makes me want to see it
|
its good stuff
|
Saw last night and I thought it was different but in a good way. I though the acting in it was great but I didn't care for the style of cinematography it was a little annoying at times. I know they're trying to be more unique by doing it this way but sometimes there's nothing wrong with using the old fashioned method.

Saw it yesterday afternoon and i thought it was "Fookin great".
With the money they've made i'm sure the pressure is on to do a sequel so it'll be interesting to see if Blomkamp and Jackson can give us more of the same and not some rubbish, more money thrown at it piece of shite. |
i don't think they need to make a sequel, really. i can see why they would, but can any of you here honestly not figure out what the entire plot of the film would be?
|
I'm seeing this tomorrow so it better be good, as I'm spending some of my food money on it.

This movie needs a sequel about as much as 28 Days Later did. Not at all. But it will probably get one. Hopefully it's as solid as that sequel was. |
Aye, so many good films, so many shite sequels.
I'd rather Blomkamp went on and done something different rather than waste his time on a sequel that could pretty much undo the goodwill and golden ticket he has given himself with District 9. |
It was down right tasty. Probably the best film I have seen in a long time.
|
I wish he did Halo.
|
Just saw this. I give it a 8/10. It was awesome, though.
One thing I didnt' understand, maybe I missed it I dont think they explained it: How can the humans understand the aliens? Its subtitled for the audience....but...how do they understand the alien language? And also, they have Alien vs Predator, Jason vs Freddy, Gremlins vs District 9 Aliens would be sweet. Imagine the interaction between them.... |
They've been down there for 20 years. You can learn a language in half that time, same as any other language we encounter from other countries.
|
That was a bloody good film - enjoyed every minute of it.

I'm sure the studio that pulled the funding for the Halo film is feeling rather sheepish right now. Was the Halo film that Jackson and Blomkamp were attached to written by Alex Garland? |
Rumors are that Spielberg is now being brought on to produce. Spielberg and Jackson are tight these days, so maybe he'll bring Jackson in to co-produce and they can get Blomkamp back on the project.
|
Saw this on Tuesday and REALLY liked it. Definitely recommend seeing it if you haven't.

Have a read of this article.
Nigerian officials: 'District 9' not welcome here ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) -- One of the summer's biggest blockbusters — a sci-fi morality tale about aliens and apartheid — is not welcome in Nigeria because of its portrayal of Nigerians as gangsters and cannibals, Nigeria's information minister said Saturday. Information Minister Dora Akunyili has asked movie houses in the capital of Abuja to stop screening "District 9" because the South Africa-based sci-fi movie about aliens and discrimination makes Nigerians look bad. "We have directed that they should stop public screening of the film," she said. "We are not happy about it because it portrays Nigeria in bad light." Fucking idiots.

I'm not surprised at the reaction. If you replace Nigerian with Muslim there would have been a shit storm all over the world. |
And people would have died.
|
Good movie.
|
Meh...the more I think about it, the worse it was.
