Them Crooked Vultures
Dave Grohl on Drums, Josh Homme, vox and guitar and JPJ on bass and keys.
A few scrappy YT vids about from their live debut last night in Chicago are about, but lets be honest here... It's going to be fucking awesome. |

|
They've also apparently got Alain Johannes on guitar and backing vocals. Not sure if he's full time or not, but either way :y:
|
Yeah, I am pretty sure he will be involved on stage. He was at their first gig, and plays on about half of the songs they played.
He was there with QOTSA a few years back in london. Played a mad intro to Long Slow Goodbye. Top guitarist. |

i was just about to make this thread.
i haven't been this hyped for a band in a long, long time. |
Lot of good videos on their forums, but these are a couple of the best...

Can't wait for them to tour here
|
Yeah, we're going.

I think I vaguely remember Dave saying QOTSA is, and I quote,

We watched Spinnerette at Leeds, and we then went to see Eagles of Death Metal. They had Joey Castillo drumming, and with Brody there, I was thinking 'Josh must be about, and playing somewhere, at some point!'
We went back to the tents to get more loaded, and came back to see Ian Brown. We literally must have walked straight past the tent they were on, ignoring the video screens outside the tent and walked on by. They did a secret show at 4pm on that day, we were walking past, to Ian Brown at the main stage at 4.10. Devo'd |
5 days until I see them in Austin. This will be the most expensive concert I've ever attended. Had to pay ample amounts of cash to get the car fixed. Twice. That on top of the $106 for the tickets.
$106 + $184 + $240 = My wallet hurting PS. Car may potentially have a flat soon due to the "Low Tire Pressure" light coming on, but no noticeable flat |
Got back from Austin a few hours ago, fucking amazing. Didn't know much about John Paul Jones before this, but now I'm a big fan. Dude was ridiculous.
My only complaint, NEVER GO TO SHOWS IN TEXAS. Difficult to enjoy anything when you're on the verge of dying from the heat. Was cool to see all the different kinds of fans there. All the older 40+ there for Jones (I saw plenty of people in their 50s and 60s) or the younger 18-30 there for Grohl and Homme. Pretty neat. |
the better complaint there is to never go to Texas ever
|
Did they play any covers?
Of...anything really? |
Nope, all original songs. I can remember:
Elephants Scumbag Blues Daffodils Interlude With 'Ludes No One Loves Me And Neither Do I Gunman Mind Eraser New Fang Dead End Friends Caligulove And maybe 2 or 3 others |

Free download of Mind Eraser, No Chaser on iTunes if you're a fan of iTunes on facebook.
|
Someone on the TCV forum ripped and uploaded 30 second clips from all the songs before Amazon took them down. I'll find the link if anyone wants it.
|
Awesome news, I shall be getting the album.

Some guy on Twitter, who's already leaked Spinning in Daffodils and Caligulove says if no one leaks the album by 8, he'll do it himself
EDIT: Well, band just decided to leak it themselves: http://www.youtube.com/user/themcrookedvultures |
Yeah, the whole album is out on torrents and I like it a lot
"Gunman" is blowing my face off. Pun intended. |
Does anyone have a non-torrent leak of the album? I am at work and, working for a music company, they frown on torrents. Possibly a megaupload link or something of that nature?
edit: Actually, http://rapidshare.com/files/304941495/tcv-tcv.zip There you all go. |
it's on youtube free streaming from the bands channel full album
|
How am I supposed to stream when I'm driving around town, Clox?
|
That's not info just for you.

Glad to be of assistance. Half way through. Review coming later.
|
Yeah, I'm about half way through atm but I'm about to watch some TV. Love the 'vibe' of it
|
This album sounds just like I imagined it would, brilliant. I'm really digging the song "Elephants."
|
Spinning in Daffodils is immense
|
<8 <8  8> 8>

|
wow this album is fantastic. the closing riff to nobody loves me and neither do i is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome
|
Ready to name Caligulove my favorite song on the album
|
2 great songs, several ok ones and some that kind of miss the mark.
|
They miss the mark with you because you listen to sensitive souled american indie whiners.
'Turn down the party riff's, Josh. Clox needs more melonchollie.' |
I saw an advert for the album last night, and i have to say, the songs sounded rather "meh"
|
listen to a few all the way through before you make a judgement dude. If we based all out entertainment on the appeal of its commercial, I doubt that any of us would see or hear an awful lot.
|
Meeeeeh. I find most rock music that is around today rather lacking. If and when I can be arsed, I'll check'em out more thoroughly.
I'd prefer it if we got a new Foo album (not a "best of" shite). |
We CLEARLY have very differing opinions, then.
|
Listened to this a few times now, me rikey a rot

Oh my fucking god. Watching JPJ rock out like that makes me want to cum and cry at the same time. Total awe. How can be in even more awe of JPJ? Can't believe I walked past this, too smashed on Sailor Jerry's rum and various powders to notice. What a dick. Cannot fucking wait to catch them next month. |
12 string bass.... Sickness.
|
Pretty decent album.
|
The only thing that could make this cooler is if David Bowie were somehow involved.
|
I listen to a lot harder music. This is too many chiefs most of the album
|
I'm gonna devote my next playlist to you.
|
Not sure where I've been the last six months, but I only heard about this last thursday. Picked the album up on Saturday. Can't get over how good this album is...from track 1-13...amazing!
|
So I was finally able to get past the first track just a few days ago. That first track is absolutely amazing. Easily my favorite of the album. But after finally listening to the entire album, I can say this...
JPJ was not needed. It is claerly a heavy collaboration between Homme and Grohl. Which is fine with me. The Songs For The Deaf album is a big favorite of mine. So I have no problem with this album's sound. I can listen to and understand Homme and Grohl's influence. But JPJ just takes a backseat in this album and it kinda sounds like he isn't needed. It sounds like the bass work in this album can be replaced by any "Pretty Good" bass player. Like nothing stands out and catches my attention. I thought all 3 would be able to show off their playing styles, but it's mostly Homme and Grohl. Which I'm fine with. I just think you can replace JPJ with any "pretty good" bass player of today and still acieve the same sound. |
You have to see them live to truly appreciate JPJ and Grohl. This album seems to showcase Homme the most, but live they're all equally amazing. Their Austin show was easily the best thing I've ever been witness to.

Yeah pretty sure JPJ wouldn't just play bass for a band without having some say as to the musical direction they're taking.
|
The bass player that played on TCV album, is good enough to have been the Led Zeppelin bassist based on that record.
He dry-bums a 12 string bass into submission during one song on that reading set. The man is a beast. He is still so good that watching that set got me all emotional with his still-the-fucking-king-ness. |

And you can find the rest under the "More From: Q0TSAvideos" thing. Have to scroll a little though |
Yeah. It was on BBC3 a few weeks ago, so I expect there is a torrent for it now somewhere too.
They did a song on Johnathan Ross on friday, Mind Eraser, No Chaser. Just can't wait to go and see them. |
Found it!
Thank you, my rock brethren from England. I am getting the chills watching this. It's like 2 members of rock royalty, then JPJ as the god of rock he is. They know what the fuck they're doing. |
|
Finally got the CD today as an exchange gift. Love it.

Went from 'liking this band a lot more' to 'I fucking love this band, and I want another CD now'. Dunno, it is just like, the perfect kind of music that I want to listen to right now. It rocks my face off, without being incoherent, yet there's a ton of intricacy in the music. It's just got a different sound, and I want more.
