EA Sports MMA

http://mma.easports.com/home.action

Randy Couture, one of the most popular fighters in MMA history, will co-headline EA SPORTS MMA alongside Fedor Emelianenko.

"I have been a part of MMA for over 10 years and I am excited about the global visibility that a game like EA SPORTS MMA will bring to the sport," said Randy Couture. "Like my fighting career, I look forward to taking on all comers in EA SPORTS MMA."

Randy Couture, a 6'1", 220 pound heavyweight, who currently holds a 16-9 record and is a five-time MMA champion. Couture, a living legend in the MMA world, utilizes his wrestling expertise to take down and control opponents before finishing them off with ground and pound strikes. Couture is scheduled to fight at the end of this month against former Pride World Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. In addition, this is not Couture's first foray into the world of video games, as he was featured in EA's Command & ConquerTM: Red AlertTM 3 as Commander Warren Fuller.

Jay "The Thoroughbred" Hieron, a high-profile fighter, joins the EA SPORTS MMA roster as well.

Hieron currently holds a 18-4 record and the Long Island native utilizes his wrestling prowess as his primary fighting style but has become a formidable striker as well. He fights out of Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas and was the last Welterweight Champion of the International Fight League.

EA SPORTS is sponsoring three fighters in the STRIKEFORCE event, including Jay Hieron, Gegard Mousasi, and Renato Sobral.

ROXER MAY BE ON TO SOMETHING

Fabien Barthez 08-18-2009 10:13 PM

I don't think so. This isn't the MMA Promotion politics forum. When gameplay is discussed, we will let you know.

RoXer 08-18-2009 10:53 PM

Right.

Talk about gameplay here.

Talk about politics behind the game there.

Although, you could just as easily talk aout it here but whatev

RoXer 08-18-2009 10:54 PM

There are technical aspect in the game as well so we mights as well start one in the Tech Forum too.

RoXer 08-18-2009 10:55 PM

I will also create this thread in the TV Forum, seeing as how it is played on a TV.

RoXer 08-18-2009 10:56 PM

And then we'll discuss about it in the discussion forum.

G 08-18-2009 11:05 PM

Funky Fly 08-19-2009 01:40 AM

I have a question about this game for you guys who are into MMA:

Please consult the Forum Questions/Suggestions Forum for my question.

RoXer 08-19-2009 01:53 AM

When they release the "EA Trax Soundtrack" for this game, make sure you put it in the music forum.

D Mac 08-19-2009 01:55 AM

Since I am the man, this thread is priority.

Incorrect.

RoXer 08-19-2009 02:04 AM

All Guitar Hero discussions must now go in the music forum.

#BROKEN Hasney 08-19-2009 02:23 AM

I would love to discuss the UFC/EA MMA situation but I will wait forthe Discussion Forum thread.

You should go and find the repetative, but not remotely funny forum.

It's quite obvious these 2 threads are on different subjects, so just stop being a bellend, or buy a jokebook.

They're about a video game.

I'll give you 1 guess where you should go to talk about a video game.

Go ahead.

I want to hear from video game forum moderator The Mackem.

RoXer 08-19-2009 04:37 PM

I'm going to start a "Madden Politics" thread in the Sports Forum.

It will be just as interesting as and will probably create MORE discussion than the EA MMA Politics Thread in the MMA Forum.

Funky Fly 08-19-2009 05:33 PM

look, there's 2 threads about a videogame about mma with a lot of mma politics surrounding it. If you don't like it here, talk about it there. If you don't like it there talk about it here. If you don't like either, FEEL FREE TO LOG OFF AND FUCK OFF.

Thank you.

RoXer 08-19-2009 06:00 PM

Alls I knows is I don't want any of you working in my local library.

Shit would get fucked up so fast.

RoXer 08-19-2009 06:02 PM

To Kill A Mockingbird

Oh that goes in the self-help section

Funky Fly 08-19-2009 06:06 PM

The thread in the mma forum isn't about the game itself. It's about the drama the game is causing in the mma world. This thread is actually about the game.

How difficult a concept is that?

I'll merge them.

NO DON'T!

RoXer 08-19-2009 06:53 PM

Oh no you won't!

At least, not without apologizing to me first.

RoXer 08-19-2009 06:55 PM

After all, the thread in the mma forum isn't about the game itself. It's about the drama the game is causing in the mma world. This thread is actually about the game. The thread in the Sports Forum compares the game to another successful video game.

How difficult a concept is that?

Those threads were merged and if you bothered to read the thread you'd know the character list is part of the drama that is the feud between EA Sports and Dana White.

Savio 08-19-2009 08:35 PM

We need more EA MMA threads......I'll have to think about how i can relate to computer help & problems.

G 08-19-2009 11:13 PM

It's not funny if it's planned and talked about ahead of time. :-\

I think everyone is exhausted from the bitchfest back in 2009.

D Mac 09-29-2010 02:00 AM

Yeah well, serious discussion about the game from now on or fuck off.

Fignuts 09-29-2010 02:03 AM

Serious fucking business

D Mac 09-29-2010 06:02 AM

Dunno. Feels more like arcade style then UFC's sim. Graphics are pretty good. Might have to rent first.

Disturbed316 09-29-2010 07:55 AM

Not sure how I feel about the control system on this, probably just more used to UFC, but using the stick for strikes just doesn't seem quite right.

Funky Fly 09-29-2010 08:50 AM

Colour me thoroughly unimpressed.

Varied roster of greats from around the world. Good. Strikeforce cage/rules and Dream ring/rules, plus custom rules. Good.

The loose, floaty control feel and the general cartoonish look of the fighters reminds me a lot of Facebreaker. Bad. The right stick for striking is great in Fight Night, but inaccurate garbage here. Bad. The submission system being the Smackdown vs Raw "spin the stick and find the sweet spot" method is awful. The sweet spot doesn't even vibrate half the time. Bad. Takedowns are fucking near invincible, since they travel way too far and are apparently immune to strikes. Bad. Having to spam your friends to get "Classic Randy Couture". Bad. Having to connect to the god damn fucking EA servers that can't maintain a connection for 2 seconds for leaderboards and whatever other crap they have... Bad.

Kane Knight 09-29-2010 08:52 AM

This thread was awesome.

RoXer 09-29-2010 04:08 PM

You can change to button striking in options

Funky Fly 09-29-2010 04:10 PM

I bet it's gonna be like Fight Night where button striking is disallowed online. Again, great for Fight Night, bad here.

Lord-Of-Darkness 09-30-2010 08:22 AM

I hadn't noticed the button striking option yet. I'll try it out.

Not sure about this one. Feels alot more 'arcadey' than the UFC games, but the more I play it, the more fun it becomes. I love the knockout animations when the guy is reeling after a few to the head.

I'm glad I cancelled my preorder, but will probably pick this up when the price comes down.

Kris P Lettus 09-30-2010 08:28 AM

I love how Roxer is trying to be high and mighty about the rules and regulations of TPWW, yet he spammed the fuck out of this thread..

alvarado52 09-30-2010 06:14 PM

ANYWAY....im gonna have to say this game feels very cartoonish. Pretty much agree with everything Funky stated, especially the takedown bullshit. I thought takedowns were annoying difficult to stuff in UFC10, but this shit is near guesswork.

Lord-Of-Darkness 10-01-2010 05:53 AM

I agree that the takedowns get a little annoying, especially when the CPU player seems to spam the hell out of them as soon as the 'head' meter goes down somewhat. You could call it tactical, but it doesn't throw in the clinches or anything as much, just unblockable takedowns everywhere.

That being said though, I'm enjoying it more and more. It's making me want to re-preorder it if I'm honest, even if I'm in the minority.

Also, love the blood effects, going down the face and staining the shorts etc. Good stuff.

LOL

It's really not that bad

The Phenom 10-05-2010 11:08 AM

Played the demo, it's way to arcade style for me i'll just stick with UFC.

This game offends me. There's arcadey, then there's loosey goosey controls that do fuck all. Played a match in which I was Jake Shields vs Mayhem Miller. The striking is better with the UFC knockoff controls, but countering and reversals and fucking impossible that way. I got put in a clinch and pressed against the cage at the start of round 2, but I beat the crap out of him until his stamina and body health meters were empty AND I WAS STUCK IN THE GOD DAMN CLINCH FOR THE ENTIRE ROUND. You'd think when a guy pounds on your ribs for 5 minutes you might let go of his head, but apparently not. Even then, I tried to grapple my way out, seeing as I had full stamina and he was a walking corpse, but no, grappling did fuck all except give him the chance to recover health. And that's the other thing, Why the fuck is his body health recovering so fast? And the submission game went from "find the hotspot" to "mash the button, but don't run out of stamina".

I've won the matches I've played, but it's more due to dumb luck than any semblance of skill on my part. DO NOT WANT.

Impact! 10-19-2010 11:19 AM

Bought the game today, it seems alright, absolutely hated it at first, but once i changed to classic controls it became better. So far it's decent, but nowhere near as good as UFC 2010. Will have a go at career mode and see how that goes.

The Mask 10-19-2010 11:25 AM

looks awful to me. i'm getting pretty grate at ufc though, i have made some godly CAFs.

Kane Knight 10-19-2010 11:59 AM

Gamepro gave this a 4.5. WHERE'S YOUR GOD NOW, GUYS?

Impact! 10-19-2010 12:06 PM

The most enjoyable part so far has been the soccer kicks/stomps. Really fun.

Since when are Gamepro considered a legit review magazine? Was it Major Mike who liked it so much? Boba Fatt?

Funky Fly 10-19-2010 04:19 PM

I kinda like this snark thing. Might keep doing that. :D

alvarado52 10-19-2010 04:52 PM

It is getting decent reviews, ill say that. I dunno, i didnt like the analog striking, but ill give the buttons a go.

bunch of the guys at my gym like this one more... meh im playin force unleashed 2 at the moment

Disturbed316 01-31-2011 12:37 PM

Got this on the cheap a week ago and liking for than I did the demo. Switching to classic controllers probably helped as the stick just doesn't do it for this game. Soccer kicks to the head is one of the most enjoyable/satisfying things ever.
