Can't wait for this. |
Yeah, and it's going to be on PC only, which kinda sucks.
Oh man, only on the second video and I already want to replace WoW with this.
It's a good thing i'm not wearing pants... |
Watch the subscription be like 30 bucks a month or some shit.
Doubt it, will be 15 bucks like every other MMO that isn't run by Sony. 30 Bucks will probably end up buying 2 months of game time like with WoW.
Bioware does not disappoint. Baldur's Gate series, Neverwinter Nights (1, not 2, which is made by Obsidian), KOTOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect...
Been waiting for them to get into the MMO market for the longest time. Know they'll do it right. |
I don't talk about this much but I am following it and I geek out at every released snippet. I don't know how I can play this with these games being ever more time consuming.
I'm with you on that. I'm a very light Star Wars fan, so the sheer ability for these snippets to insight any want for me to play an MMO (which I normally avoid for money issues) is quite amazing to me.
I'm a little miffed about the fact that this means we're likely never going to see a proper KOTOR III. Still, it does look pretty damn awesome.
Beta sign-ups are now open.
Go to www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com to apply. But site is down now due to high demand. Good luck. |
I'm on it.
Thank you for visiting www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com. We are making adjustments to the site due to the overwhelming response to the testing announcement. Please be patient and check back later. We estimate that the site will be back up in the next few hours.
lol |
You were warned.
Wish I had a good computer.
Anyone know the sys reqs for it?
Still down. WTF
I've probably played through KOTOR 1 and 2 at least 10 times. I could easily say either one is my favorite game ever, most definitely favorite RPG. Needless to say I've been waiting for this since KOTOR II was released. Back then everyone thought we would be getting a new KOTOR for the next generation systems, then it is revealed it will be a MMORPG. Can't say I was skeptical at first, as I've never played a MMORPG, and never really had the desire too. But after watching the gameplay videos, and listening to the developers discussing what they plan on doing with this, I'm convinced this will be great.
Now I just got to get ahold of a Windows OS before this comes out. |
Now I keep getting the message:
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again. |
Alright this if FUCKED UP. I provide all the info and it keeps redirecting me back to the sign up screen. FUCK.
Same here. And I don't think I can sign up again with the same name since it says it's unavailable.
Still fucking up. This is fucking bullshit. Oh well, guess I'll wait till the full game.
Is that so.
I'm in. Well done with the sign up anyway. Hope I get picked!
Same here. Will probably not get picked if they go by computer specs.

Star Wars the Old Republic
Finally have a released date of Dec. 20 2011
Been waiting for this game to hit the shelves for a long time, bout 2-3 years. It looks great and should be stiff competition for WoW. Anyone here gonna be checking this game out? http://swtor.com |
Fuck this game. Another easy-mode theme park of repetitiveness, with artificial conflict and cookie-cutter builds where you'll be the exact same as a million other people who chose your class.
Well what else is there to get away from the repetitive BS of WoW. this game is bring something new to the MMORPG gamers.
Inclined to side with TeRdNuGgEt here. At least be a little open-minded Requiem.
The only new thing it brings is full voice-overs, which is a waste of time and money IMO. It's cool, but it's not going to revolutionize the genre.
The only replayability of this game lies in playing new classes through each class' story. You play a class from 1 to cap, and that's your story. Sure it's a relatively different game if you play another class, but MMOs are about creating a persistent character and evolving that character. They're turning it into a single-player experience, where they want you to play new characters all the time to 'experience' their game. Where you can hire mercenaries to help you through content instead of focusing on actual player interaction. I'm sure it will sell a shit ton of copies, because that's what they're going for. They're targeting a very casual audience who will probably eat this shit up. But 6 months to a year down the line, there's going to be nothing to keep people invested. I have no doubts that people will reach max level within -weeks- of the game's release. This is a cancer on this genre, in a time when the MMO genre is truly struggling -because- of all the expectations that WoW created, and other games failed to live up to for the past several years. It's becoming where developers are afraid to take actual chances and create living breathing worlds, because casual games are what makes the MOST money. Star Wars Galaxies wasn't perfect, but it was 10x the Star Wars game this will be. They at least attempted to create a universe and it felt like you were really a part of something cool. Ugh, just gonna stop here cause I could go on and on about the problems with the MMO genre as I have at least a half dozen times on this forum, but rest assured... this game will sell big, and then in a few years it will decline heavily. The only thing that will knock WoW off its throne is another Blizzard game, and that's really unfortunate. |
What you say about the game will not change my mind about it. Game is going to be Epic and can't wait to play it.
That's cool. You did post this thread though so I was giving you my opinion. You are likely the casual audience they are targeting with this game.
Not casual been playing MMORPG's for a long while and much rather play them then console games. Just the time, effort, and money invested to the creation of this game i can not believe that it will fizzle out and die within six months of the release. That is just foolish to believe. Lucas Arts and EA will not allow it to happen and BioWare being video game gods, this game as all the makings of having longevity.
Oh fuck he figured out autoplay
Didn't say it would be dead in 6 months. I said the replayability won't last for more than 6mo to a year, and within a couple years, it will see HEAVY decline in subscriptions. People will hit max level on characters in no time, and they will start to run out of unique content. They're trying this whole story-based gameplay thing, but you can only have so much story and new content at a time. They're telling you how to play their game instead of giving the players the tools to play in a universe they made.
Also, there have been several games in recent years with massive budgets that failed in under a year. Tabula Rasa, All Points Bulletin. Some had large budgets and are struggling currently - Vanguard, Age of Conan. The latter of which only held on due to going free2play. Budget doesn't mean a single thing to me, and I put virtually no trust in EA. They're the king of bastardizing content. It's shocking the amount of quality companies they purchase in their prime and then run into the ground after milking them dry. And LucasArts... well, I'm sure they are getting a lot of money out of this, but I don't think they care as much as you think they do. They certainly didn't care about the response that their 'changes' to the old Star Wars MMO got. They wanted to compete with WoW instead of being successful on its own merits, and it ended up killing the game completely. |
Req, what's your take on Curt Schilling's project?
There's virtually no information on it so far. That's my take.
oh :(
I thought there was a bunch of info given out at E3 but maybe you're right. |
Although working with RA Salvatore and Todd McFarlane gives me hope that it might be a very fleshed out and potentially 'dark' game.
It is called Project Copernicus, and I think that's about all we know about it. :(
terdnugget
if this was 2 years ago i'd be excited
Pre-ordered it. Basically get the early access as a demo because Amazon aren't charging until the game is shipped and I can decide then, but damn I love Biowares stories and it has the conversation system, so I am "all about dat".
Will probably give it a shot at some point. Will watch GB do some release week video to see if the universe is enough for me to get into it.
Hasney rules.
^Officially.
I'm loving this, it just feels like a Bioware game but with people doing stuff around you all the time.
Playing an imperial agent, stealth and blasters. Still not sure about a monthly fee and continuing that way as I've never done that and don't want to, but we'll see how it goes. |
Playing as a female as I usually do on Bioware games for better voice acting and just fucked my way out of a debt in the story.
This not being on 360 and Ps3 is a massive fail.
Yeah, it really hurt World of Warcraft.
I'm tempted to try it, but I really dunno.
Nothing here to run it on. Jealous.
Just did my first group quest and I'm getting this. Amazing how much the dialogue adds to a MMORPG.
I love my class too, taking cover and sniping is just fun even in that WoW style. Most of the game can be done kind of single player, you even get a companion for doing just that and the dialogue and quests are ripped straight out of the Mass Effect style book. Was trying to place my characters voice as I knew I heard it before too. It's the main female character from Dragon Age 2. |

!!!!!!!!! |
So I'm gonna go grab this in a little while. Gonna hold off for a few days before I get started. Wanna finish Skyward Sword.
Hasney, you got your hands on this. The majority of people running around Jedi and Sith Warriors? Thinking about going the road less traveled and go as a smuggler. |
I'm on the Imperial Agent prologue after 20 hours so I'm only seeing Empire classes still at this point. (I'm on a PvE server and even the PvP warzone area is all empire. An awesome sports game with killing).
I've probably seen more bounty hunters than Sith but they still are common. Imperial Agent is the least common sight I've seen. If I had picked healing/stealth instead of sniper for my class I'd be so ridiculously in demand for groups on my server. People always begging for that in the chat. |
Got a ship. Dogfighting is damn fun.
Rolled a smuggler. Fun. I like the dynamics of the character.
So far, questing hasn't felt tedious. I like the way that it's structured. There also doesn't seem to be silly kill "x" people or gather "y" items. In the first 10 levels I encountered one gather quest and it took me three minutes to complete. The "bonus" quests are also structured nicely. You're going to complete them by simply doing the main objective. Digging it so far. We'll see how it holds up. It still has that newness factor, so I don't know if that's boosting my impression. |
Im honestly going to pick this up today I think. It just sounds sooooooo fucking cool to a Star Wars loser like me.
I'm not even a real Star Wars fan, just my love of Bioware made me try the early access as a demo and I'm so glad I did.
Honestly, last few days I've been as tired as a Korean at work thanks to this. |
Going to go Sith, trying to get some dudes at work to get this too aso we can have a regular group. So excited to get home tonight.
Bought this - Fucking A, Been download for 5 hours and still have a ton to go :( Not going to get to play tonight :(
The next character I start is going to be a male Jedi Knight for sure. Just found out it's the voice of Solid Snake himself, David Hayter.
The male Jedi Consular is Nolan North as well, voice of Nathan Drake. It's like the all-star cast of video game voice acting. |
Gunnar Fucking Stahl and Carlton Lassister are voice actors in this game!
Sooooooo jelous of you guys right now. I wanna start, but I'm at the goal line in Skyward Sword. I probably won't get rolling until the weekend.
Can't wait. |
Made a Sith Inquisitor, Race....SITH. Big Red Fucker.
Level 7, love it. LOVE that you can influence quests and storyline with Dialogue choices. AMAZING. It feels like I am playing a true to god MMO version of KOTOR. |
If you're already loving it, just wait until your first flashpoint quest at about level 10. That's what sold me on the whole game.
Yeah, I think I'm going to give it a go. Bet it takes like 10 hours to download and install.
Yeah the initial download is a bear.
This game is a blast too. The little things that they've done really takes out the aspects that made WoW a fucking chore. Professions? A fucking breeze. |
Yeah, the only annoying thing about professions is that I send my droid to do them and he's too camp for me.
I wish I wasn't always broke so I could afford a better computer to play this :( I mean, my 2.4ghz single core could probably run it, but it wouldn't be a fun experience.
Sounds like it has a stellar voice cast too. So jealous :'( |
It's not even giving me an accurate idea of how much is left to go. HURRY UP. :'(
System requirement lab says I cant play this but all the stats they give me for my video card are above the minimum they state? wtf? Anybody know of a better test?
Could try Can I Run It? or something I suppose.
Runs like absolute shit on my PC, result. :y:
Hopefully they'll decide to put this on consoles. My CPU is too slow and I won't be getting a new one in the forseeable future.
They probably never will.
I can't see a true MMO on consoles, ever.
Quote:
No not really.
Quote:
I wasn't aware there was a console port. I dunno. I can't imagine it taking off on consoles. |
I FINALLY installed this into my computer this afternoon. Pretty fun. I assume that you can only start equiping armor/weapons at a certain level? Went out as a Smuggler and I already picked up a few guns.
Quote:
Just made it to Alderaan. No wonder they blew it up, fucking place is a death trap. |
Weird Alderann is supposed to be a peaceful world without weapons of any kind.
Just read about it on the Wiki because I know fuck all about Star Wars.
It was peaceful at the time of the movies but in the time of The Old Republic, it was the main focus for Sith invasions for the great galactic war. |
I played the beta but I just got the game for X-mas. About to roll a Jedi Consular.
 |
Anybody playing together on a certain server?
Nah. I would have a character on a US server with you chumps, but it can be a bit laggy at peak times even on a Euro server.
I dunno. It depends really. You got your PVEs and PVPs. Eastcoast and westcoast. And how many players are in the room.
Lots to choose from. Of course, whatever class you start with chances are slim you start on a different planet than someone else. |
On a semi-related topic is anyone here reading the TOR books?
Can't get a name on this thing accepted. Is like every star wars related name taken?
Is there any demo for this game I don't want to pay 60 bucks and have it not work on my computer?
I had to go with a really obscure and weird account name. Not even Star Wars related, but none of my usual usernames for anything (that I've never seen used by anyone else, anywhere) would work as they were already taken.
And no, no demo. Trials on MMOs don't tend to appear right at the start. |
Quote:
Damn, server maintence is going to take longer than expected today.
Yeah, I was able to name my guy Hanso
Playing on Gardens of Tala or something like that. Sith Inquisitor Assassin |
Grrrrrr. I WANT MY SHIP!
Finally got off Ord Mantell. Learning my advanced skills on the republic fleet right now. |
Haven't been able to play all day so far. Errors when I go to update.
Got my ship tonight and headed to Balmorra.
Going to try the Ship combat next chance I get. Also, reached DARK SIDE Level 1 :) |
Bought it and it works perfectly fine. Stupid System Requirement Lab had me worried over nothing.
Though there is one problem that my character walks around like an asshole and won't follow directions. Can a 360 controller be used for movements? The WASD doesn't seem to want to work good enough. |
