Nigel McGuiness signs with WWE

That is all

Fignuts 09-04-2009 12:32 PM

WHAT

Skippord 09-04-2009 12:36 PM

if that's true I figured it would happen

kareru 09-04-2009 12:38 PM

so the wwe are trying to gather up all of the talent from roh?

doesn't mean that they will use them properly , chances are we are going to see cena/hhh/orton in the main even for a number of years whilst the hardworking mid/upper mid carders are going to work there asses off to keep the company afloat

CSL 09-04-2009 12:52 PM

Excellent. I think he has a much better upside than Danielson

The only thing he has going against him right now is how injury prone he's been. He definitely deserves this opportunity though.

Loose Cannon 09-04-2009 01:42 PM

I wonder if some of you would have a heart attack if the WWE formed an ROH stable to take over the shows.

Loose Cannon 09-04-2009 02:01 PM

what if CM Punk, Danielson and Nigel started beating down Vince in the middle of a WWE ring?

blake639raw 09-04-2009 02:01 PM

That would be a stupid ass idea. But really, I think McGuinness has a lot of potential upside, moreso that Dragon really. He's got the size, the look, can work the stick, and can work better than most of the young guys in WWE.

Lock Jaw 09-04-2009 02:02 PM

I guess they figured CM Punk was pretty successful.

Loose Cannon 09-04-2009 02:03 PM

Are you just trying to rile up the ROH fans, or are you being serious?

Evil Vito 09-04-2009 02:08 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Danielson and McGuinness are both really fucking good in the ring...but I really have a hard time seeing success anywhere but ECW. If they went to the other two shows they'd just be used as talented jobbers ala Charlie Haas.</font>

Why would that rile up ROH fans? That's a better spot than anybody there currently has.

I don't think Danielson can make it 'all the way'. But McGuinness can go as far as they let him. He has the talent, the mic skills and a decent look. Only thing that could be held against him is size and fondness of lariating people's heads off. CM Punk is their World Heavyweight champion atm though so who knows.

seriously, I don't see the WWE using them the way the ROH fans are going to want them to be used. I hope they put them over and just keep thier ROH characters, but I don't think it will happen

Looking at it realistically, Dragon don't have much of a character aside from being a great wrestler, and don't have much size. McGuinness has all the tools the WWE looks for in a wrestler. I"m not saying it's a guarantee they'll use him right, but there's always a chance. Nobody really gave Punk a chance, and look where he's at. Ideally, I would love to see Dragon & McGuinness bring their feud to ECW, where they could compete for Regal's attention. Regal and their crew could beat down Danielson, and McGuinness could join Regal's little group. Anyway, we'll just wait and see I guess.

Lock Jaw 09-04-2009 02:37 PM

Maven got good near the end of his run.

blake639raw 09-04-2009 02:38 PM

Maven was alright, but Kenny King is the man. He's like Shelton Benjamin with charisma and mic ability.

What Would Kevin Do? 09-04-2009 02:41 PM

Let Danielson and Nigel have 15 minutes on Superstars, and they'll be fine.

Yeah, Danielson is on the small side, but look at the roster these days. Punk is World Champ, Nigel is the same size as him, and Danielson is 3 inches shorter. If Punk can have realistic matches with Undertaker, Orton, Edge, etc, there's no reason to think that Nigel, and in theory, Danielson can't.

Now whether that'll happen is a different story. Hopefully Nigel has a cocky Brit character. No fucking "I hate America, I love England" shit, just let him go out and be a cocky asshole.

Danielson... I still don't know what they're going to do with him... Dye his hair orange and make him Sheamus' brother?

kareru 09-04-2009 02:42 PM

fun fact: maven is in czw now

What Would Kevin Do? 09-04-2009 02:42 PM

They should ditch Abraham Washington's gimmick and give it to Kenny King.

Supreme Olajuwon 09-04-2009 02:42 PM

Sucks he won't be able to use the Tower of London in WWE.

However, I think he could get over huge with the London Dungeon. Complicated finishers have a hard time getting over but that move is simple and looks really painful.

Exactly, 2 things that are more important than ability for Vince. And McGuinness is in Danielson's league in terms of ability.

As for the Tough Enough comments, Kenny King was on season 2. Won by Linda Miles/Shaniqua and Jackie Gayda. Making it even worse.

Why not? It's not that dangerous. If anything he'll have a problem because it's a cutterish/rko type move.

He could probably do his rebound lariat too. Not necessarily as a finisher, but I'm sure WWE would eat it up since they love show-boaty/flashy moves (see: Kofi's legdrop, MVP's ballin' elbow, Morrison's standing shoot star, etc)

Ecw is the best place for new guys to go. I would like to see Nigel in Regals stable and use it to jump start his career in wwe. Danielson should have a feud with Shelton to show off his in ring work to get over since IMO his mic skills are not that great compared to Nigel

Testicle 09-04-2009 03:22 PM

Wow, the WWE is finally realizing that they are in desperate need of new blood. This is a good signing, and I agree with pretty much everyone; he has a greater upside than Danielson, he could be the next punk/edge (awesome cocky heel), whereas danielson could be the next benoit (minus the murder-suicide stuff).

Its hard to belive that its taken this long though. Mcguiness is 33, kinda old to be getting your first national exposure.

Mr. Monday Morning 09-04-2009 03:46 PM

Working the 'WWE style' should help Nigel cut down his injuries. He won't be having heavy going 20 minute matches most nights and ripping his shoulder/bicep/whatever out of place by throwing so many lariats.

I look forward to the first use of the word 'clamdigger' on WWE TV.

kareru 09-04-2009 03:54 PM

do you rekon the wwe will use the words 'Cattle Mutilation' for dragons finisher ?

i know its sounds a stupid question , but in the age of the pgwwe anything is possible.

thedamndest 09-04-2009 04:05 PM

I'm not sure how ROH fans would want him to be used. Presumably not be given a dumb gimmick and maintain some semblance of his former ROH gimmick. I think the former is likely, given the way they are bringing in people on ECW via the New Superstar Initiative and now Drew Macintyre on Smackdown. With the exception of Abraham Washington (who was a goofy gimmick in FCW) all are serious competitors. It's anybody's guess as to whether or not he comes in as Nigel McGuiness or Nigel Goldman. Hopefully they will have learned a lesson from the Colt Cabana fiasco.

RGWhat316 09-04-2009 04:57 PM

Wow, I am pleasantly surprised by this news. Ive been a fan of Nigel for a while, and I think he would work perfect in Regal's stable, depending on how fast he will join the main roster.

The only thing that sucks for me with these recent ROH releases, is that the next show I attend in Detroit isnt until December. So I dont get to see Nigel or Danielson in a ROH ring one last time.

And looks as if its only a matter of time before they try to bring in Claudio again.

Triple Naitch 09-04-2009 05:00 PM

Seriously, I remember hearing that Ultimo Dragon never got a push, because vince thought he was getting another rey mysterio.

It's so retarded that vince seemingly takes so little interest in who he is signing.

Also, Danielson is definitely headed to ecw to work in some way with regal. Garauntee it.

What Would Kevin Do? 09-04-2009 07:17 PM

It honestly depends who else WWE takes.

If they take some combination of Claudio, Hero, Aries, Richards, or MAYBE Black, ROH may be screwed. Mainly because I don't think there's a big enough talent pool right now to replace their upper echelon quickly enough. Yeah,
more guys can be built up, BUT since they're on TV now, they can't just randomly have lower card guys become main eventers over night.

I honestly thought one of these five would go before Dragon or Nigel. Davey Richards looks and acts like he was born to belong in a WWE ring and Aries could have some tremendous middle-card matches with the likes of Shelton, Morrison and members of the Legacy.

Congrats to Nigel and Danielson though. And Kudos also to Punk. His success has made the WWE appear a much more optimistic and attractive destination for independent talent than a period less than 12 months ago; so much so that this news doesn't worry me about their prospects in the slightest.

XCaliber 09-04-2009 07:33 PM

That's good news i'd like for him too team up with Burchill maybe for the first little while since WWE is lacking in this department quantitywise as of late. Personally the the next ROH guy i'd like to see in WWE is Jimmy Jacobs although if he did they'd probly end up changing his name otherwise he may end up getting referred to as Double J lol. Not much of a Kenny King fan but he seems to be a great worker but I think he would need a gimmick overhaul since he comes accross as a clone of other guys.

What is the obsession on TPWW of having all British guys team together? Not that they'd be a horrible tag team, but surely Nigel will have have higher expectations than to team with a perennial jobber.

Seriously, will you guys not be happy until Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Finlay, DJ Gabriel, Burchill, Regal and McGuinness are together in a stable?

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I guess :shifty:

ron the dial 09-04-2009 08:37 PM

wow things are definitely looking great for the future of wwe if they can make it all work out

Mr. Nerfect 09-04-2009 09:27 PM

This is pretty sweet news. Nigel needs to do what is best for Nigel, and being in the WWE may be that. Some are saying that he's got more upside than Danielson, and while I won't agree with that, I do think that McGuinness has got the natural charisma and the skills to back it up, which could make him a major player in the WWE one day.

I'd like to see Nigel come in to ECW as a sort of contrast to William Regal. While Regal has fought his way to, well, regal status, McGuinness could be the blue collar hooligan trying to knock him down some pegs. A feud between the two over the ECW Title be fantastic. I am of the belief that it truly doesn't matter which brand Danielson goes to, as he will shine on any show he goes to.

I'm sort of hoping that the WWE makes offers to Austin Aries, Chris Hero, Claudio Castagnoli and Kenny King. In my opinion, Aries is one of the best all-round workers in the industry today. Chris Hero just seems like such a natural fit for the WWE's mid-card, and Claudio Castagnoli could do a version of their "Kings of Wrestling" team, which would be incredibly awesome. Kenny King is just goodness.

Skippord 09-05-2009 01:37 AM

Makes me fucking cry. Do you remember how over he was during his debut? Very little flying, but made up for it with well placed spots and an insane (but safe) finisher.

Mr. Nerfect 09-05-2009 04:50 AM

I think one thing that hurt Ultimo Dragon was that the WWE really didn't have much focus on the Cruiserweight Division. It is kind of upsetting he never became the guy in the division, though, which he arguably should have been.

Dragon could have no doubt turned out to be just as big a coup for the WWE as Rey Mysterio.

This is the signing I perhaps most want to see. Hero oozes personality, and the man has a pretty interesting look. Like if Seth Rogen and Jesus Christ had a baby together. I could so imagine him coming in to SmackDown!, appealing to Vince McMahon to let him be the one to save SmackDown! while Teddy Long is on probation.

I'm gonna have to disagree here. There is a wealth of talent in the northeast. ROH survived losing CM Punk, Matt Sydal, and all the TNA guys. If anything hopefully this leads to a lot of guys getting a shot. I think Hallowicked is on the top of that list by the way.

Sydal was never an ROH main eventer.

When Punk left, they had Joe, Danielson, etc.

Richards, Hero, Claudio, and Tyler could call pull off being ROH world champ... But who else besides that? Steen? Generico? MAYBE Jimmy Jacobs?

Roderick, Eric Stevens, Delirious, D'lo, Colt, Rave, Magnum, all great, but none ready to carry ROH.

The more people WWE takes, the more ROH has to replace. Could Delirious ever be a legit main eventer at this point? Would peeps take Steen serious as a world champion contender?

Maybe over time...

But within a month?

Roderick, Eric Stevens, Delirious, D'lo, Colt, Rave, Magnum, all great, but none ready to carry ROH.

The more people WWE takes, the more ROH has to replace. Could Delirious ever be a legit main eventer at this point? Would peeps take Steen serious as a world champion contender?

Maybe over time...

But within a month?

Eh, nobody took Lynn as a serious contender but they put the belt on him.

Most ROH fans didn't take him as one after they put the belt on him either.

Exactly, so I'm pretty sure that's not a concern for them. They need to start focusing on the younger guys though before a bunch of people do get signed. Kenny Omega is one of the few guys I can think of that ROH has done a great job of building up. They also need to get rid of the guys that just can't cut it. I'm looking at you Brent Albright.

Eh, I like Albright. I think he's a good "no frills" wrestler. He's just been doing the same shit with Claudio Castagnoli all year. I think those two guys are keeping each other down. Sort of wish ROH did another "Race to the Top Tournament" and had Albright win it, although right now, Kenny Omega would be the best pick for a winner.

Chris Hero doesn't seem to be a favourite with Adam Pearce, much like he wasn't with Gabe Sapolsky, but that dude has got all the talent in the world to be ROH World Champion, if they started treating him right now. Just put him over in his feud with Eddie Kingston, and I mean strong, and maybe give him The American Wolves as official back-up. Or put Hero and Castagnoli together again as The Kings of Wrestling, and give them a Two-Man Power Trip-like angle.

Davey Richards has been kept fairly strong, so maybe they could end his team with Eddie Edwards (which has been awesome), and let Richards move on to bigger things. The Young Bucks and Super Smash Bros. can be used in the tag team scene a bit, and there are always The Briscoes and Steenerico (although they could also be split up, too).

They might have to rush Kenny King getting a big head and chasing Aries for the ROH World Title, too.
