New Doctor Who

First look at the new Doctor Who! Matt Smith in costume with the new companion!

Picture have been out for a while but i was wondering what the rest of you Doctor Who fans thought...

http://screenrant.com/wp-content/upl...doctor-who.jpg

I have to say i like the new costume a lot.

Fashion aside i can't wait for the series seeing as Russell T Davies is being replaced by Steven Moffatt, who, in my opinion, has written nearly all the best episodes of the show since it came back on air.

Roll on Spring 2010.

El Vaquero de Infierno 09-09-2009 01:55 PM

And the redhead looks rather yummy as well.

Anyways. I've always preferred Moffat to Davies. If he ain't pushing some homosexual agenda, Davies is peddling hyperbole. Moffat, on the other hand, has always produced the best episodes, such as "Blink."

When are these other specials with Tenannt, appearing?

PapaGeorgio 09-09-2009 09:05 PM

End of December for last episodes from what I understand.

As for the new doctor, I will happily give him a chance. I've only seen the reboot of Doctor Who, so really only experienced 2 Doctors. 1st Doctor I was really into by end of Series 1, and then Tennant came along and I don't know anyone who isn't in love with him. Will it be a rough change, yes. I imagine that's what has happened in the past with other Doctors. Can't expect the exact same thing or show, and if you are looking for that I think you'll be disapointed especially since it's a new era

Confused 09-10-2009 06:08 AM

Tennant was great as The Doctor, even at times when he was working with a rubbish script. And unfortunately there was a lot more rubbish scripts than good scripts during the RTD era.

I'd say that Matt Smith is a very lucky boy being the Doctor during Steven Moffats run, because , fingers crossed, he won't have to worry about shite storylines.

Londoner 09-10-2009 06:42 AM

Don't like the new doctor who episodes anyhow. currently watching some really old ones from the 60's online, so much better, amazingly.

Downunder 09-10-2009 07:53 AM

TL you are out of your mind.

If I see any filiming around these parts, I'll get some pics and post them.

XCaliber 09-10-2009 03:05 PM

Geez they've gone and replaced Tennant & Michelle Ryan already I see dang they were probly my favorite duo even though I watched few of their episodes together.

The Destroyer 09-10-2009 03:06 PM

Michelle Ryan was only ever in a single episode.

They only appeared together, once, in one of the special episodes.

XCaliber 09-10-2009 03:34 PM

Ah that would explain it but I'm sure it was shown in parts though.

The old ones are so vastly different, I'm not really sure you could qualify them as "better".

They're certainly a hell of a lot more slowly paced. And cheaper looking.

I enjoy the stories more though. Feels more tense where as these days its rushed. 'Better' is just a matter of opinion. Lets just say 'i prefer them' instead. But i'm not sure they would fit these days.

The Mackem 09-14-2009 05:30 AM

Tennant was a high point for Doctor Who, it will be interesting to see how it goes from here. I have a feeling that the stories might be a little better but the acting not quite as good. Will be watching though and hopefully we will get some more quality television.

Jon Kano 09-14-2009 07:37 AM

That guy who is playing the new Dr, he used to live and go to the Boys school in my town.

As fuckin lame as that sounds, I prob won't be able to say that about any other celeb again.

Outsider 09-14-2009 07:51 AM

Apparently Rose is coming back again. Didn't know that.

I bet Derren has 24 people couped up in a room somewhere wishing death upon you. :)

The Mackem 09-14-2009 10:24 AM

Derren Brown does not scare me, I don't watch Channel 4, Channel 4+1, E4, E4+1, More4, More4+1, ITV4, ITV4+1, Sky Sports 4 or any other channel with '4' in it so his powers can't reach me. His powers stop outside the number 4. I know his game.

Always with the '4', Derren Brown.

Confused 09-14-2009 10:27 AM

Be as smug as you want! He has ways and means, ways and means....

I bet Sunderland get beaten by 4 goals in their next game!

The Mackem 09-14-2009 10:40 AM

We just won by four goals :shifty:

The Mackem 11-17-2009 03:08 AM

Anybody watch it on Sunday? Quite intense and a look at the Christmas episode.

Downunder 11-17-2009 07:06 AM

The Water on Mars special was rather good, The Doctor has taken a darker turn.

Bloody good episode.

The Mackem 11-17-2009 08:02 AM

Most suprising heel turn since Hogan...although it was short lived. Took me by complete surprise.

El Vaquero de Infierno 11-17-2009 08:22 AM

I get the impression this Christmas special will be another dose of RTD hyperbole.

But "The Water on mars" was pretty good. I want more "bad" Doctor.

Outsider 11-17-2009 08:35 AM

Waters of Mars was pretty fucking good.

Looking forward to the Christmas specials, but probably looking forward to seeing more Moffatt episodes more. Still uneasy about the new Doctor though.

Word. At this point, I care less about who the Doctor is than seeing how he takes over. Davies is fine, but Moffat has been on fire.

Though I've got a bit longer to wait than the Brits...:foc:

El Vaquero de Infierno 11-17-2009 01:46 PM

:p

Outsider 11-17-2009 02:55 PM

Not seen any filming around here, so means probably no Torchwood cross over in the new series, which given what happened at the end of Children of Earth, probably makes sense.

After watching the first episode of the new Dr Who, I have to say I think it has got its mojo back.

That, or the attractive red-headed lass with the sexy scottish accent is currently clouding my judgment.

Boondock Saint 04-04-2010 05:45 PM

I've heard good things. Looking forward to it airing over here soon.

The Destroyer 04-04-2010 06:04 PM

Anyone who ever doubted Matt Smith's ability to play the role will now hopefully be eating their words.

Karen Gillan was great as well. Some excellent casting there.

El Vaquero de Infierno 04-04-2010 06:57 PM

Is it me or are they trying to make it a bit more "edgy", if that would be the right word to use. Definitely had a different feel to the previous seasons.

The music still sucks, tho.

PapaGeorgio 04-04-2010 08:46 PM

Loved it. Didn't even think about it being a new Doctor until after the episode. He was just brilliant as the Doctor, don't see many people complaining after this episode. Looks like a fun season.

ClockShot 04-04-2010 08:56 PM

We ain't getting it here in the States for another couple weeks. But judging from the previews I've been seeing, EVdI seems to be right on. More edgy and serious. Doesn't seem to be uppity and caffeine loaded like Tennant's character was. Which I loved.

PapaGeorgio 04-04-2010 09:15 PM

I downloaded the episode. Can't wait, didn't even realize it was back till saw some tweets and FB messages on it and got all gitty. Def looking forward to rest of season.

XCaliber 04-04-2010 10:16 PM

Finally just finished watching End Of Time and I must say that it was freaking great! Also watched a few of the specials over the weekend and thought they were pretty good too like the Waters Of Mars it was well done. I'm really gonna miss Tennant though he is a great actor probly the best since Colin Baker it will be interesting to see which direction they go from here.

PapaGeorgio 04-04-2010 10:54 PM

As much as I love David as the Doctor, I think it was a good time to leave. Looking forward to the new fresh Doctor. Gave David a good send off to his story, and now we get to go for a new ride.

Also like the look of Tardis these days.

Downunder 04-05-2010 06:19 AM

Loved the first episode with Matt Smith as The Doctor, halfway through I thought - yup that's The Doctor.

Two thumbs up from me.

Shadow 04-05-2010 01:15 PM

Just saw this episode last night and I'm loving this doctor. I missed out on most of Tennet's run, just couldn't find the time to watch I guess, so this is a fresh start for me. I really really loved how mad and insane he was to begin with then after he settled down, developed his own...twist to being the Doctor. Matt Smith definitly brought something very new the table and I for one love it. Also, forgive me if this has been brought up but the pinball effect to get to the nurse who worked in the Coma ward....is that a new power? If it is I love it.

I can't wait for more...and the Companion for this series is HOTNESS!

Outsider 04-05-2010 01:38 PM

I enjoyed that.

The Mackem 04-06-2010 08:47 AM

Looks like it's going to have solid episodes.

The missus turned in an episode. She was adamant that she wouldn't like him because she was ultra pro-Tennant.

El Vaquero de Infierno 04-06-2010 09:19 AM

If there was something we should have all known before this season, due his past quality work in the series, it was not to doubt The Moffat.

XCaliber 04-06-2010 04:35 PM

Alright guys I saw the series 5 premier last night and I must saw I rather enjoyed it but I'm not so confident on what is to come going by the previews. I'm really getting the impression that there trying to appeal to a younger audience which isn't necesserily a bad thing as I rather like the Doctor's new companion. Smith seems to be very competent in the role and I can already say that I prefer him over a few of his predecessors.

The Mackem 04-07-2010 04:46 AM

Really? I got the impression that they are going the other way.

ClockShot 04-11-2010 09:38 AM

So I caught "The End of Time" last night BBC America. Holding back some major tears, but I got a primer on what I'm gonna expect when the season kicks off next week.

Question to our british friends. Did you keep Tim Dalton on ice or locked away something? Was totally not expecting him to walk onto the set and take up a role.

The Destroyer 04-24-2010 03:47 PM

After a shaky week with the Dalek episode last week, back to excellence with the Time of Angels. :y:

El Vaquero de Infierno 04-24-2010 04:20 PM

Yes indeedy.

Hopefully they won't overuse the Weeping Angels.

Downunder 04-25-2010 02:22 AM

Rainbow Daleks my 4 year old said.

But last nights episode was bloody brilliant

El Vaquero de Infierno 04-25-2010 05:35 AM

You scummy Aussies are not allowed to watch Dr. Who. BEGONE!

XCaliber 04-25-2010 09:55 AM

The 2nd episode aired here in Canada last night and I tought it was pretty good the writing quality appears to be on the same level. Did anyone catch that white tear in the ship right at the end of the show? I'm sure it had some significance that will be part of a broader story arc yet to come.

SPOILER: show
Universe got some strange cracks in it. Prisoner Zero covered that in the season premiere.

Boondock Saint 04-27-2010 01:10 AM

Second episode was pretty good. I think it's a bit early to bring the Daleks in on Ep. 3 but oh well. We'll see how it is.

The Mackem 04-27-2010 08:24 AM

First part episode with the angels last Saturday was immense, best so far.

El Vaquero de Infierno 04-27-2010 09:28 AM

That scene when Amy was trapped in the pod, looking at the monitor with the weeping angel on it, was great. Creepy as fuck.

XL 04-28-2010 02:57 PM

I missed the 2nd episode when it aired so I went back to watch it the other day. What a great episode.

My g/f watched the "Angels" episode with me on Sunday, she got pretty into it considering she really "doesn't like Dr Who".

The Destroyer 04-30-2010 06:44 AM

She's in denial.

PapaGeorgio 05-02-2010 07:21 PM

Hott episode last night, was a fan. Was interesting to learn more about the tear. Interested to see where things going.

XCaliber 05-03-2010 01:35 PM

I've now caught up and must say I was a little disappointed in the 3rd episode particularly in the conclusion at least to some degree. That of course being the return of the new Mighty Morphing Power Daleks but at least there back I suppose wouldn't be the same without them. The following 2 parter was better than what I expected after seeing the previews for it heh so know we know why the Tardis makes that patented sound.

PapaGeorgio 05-03-2010 07:50 PM

Yeah Dalek episode was def the weakest of them so far. Little sick of Daleks lately, and all the other ones they use all the time. Can't we go like one season without them maybe. Think they are used way to much.

KIRA 05-03-2010 07:55 PM

I liked this weeks ep

I didn't think I would like this Doctor but hes grown on me rather quickly particularly the fact that hes more prone to anger and his "I'm about to seriously kick your asses" theme music

Amy is adorable and has proven to be an extremely useful companion thus far

The Mackem 05-04-2010 05:12 AM

Yeah watched second angels episode and he has really made an enjoyable and interesting 'Doctor' that hasn't taken long to get board with. Was laughing my head off just at a line from the preview of the next episode with the Vampires. Series is actually shaping up really well and the only thing I wasn't really a fan of was the Daleks.

El Vaquero de Infierno 05-04-2010 06:32 AM

I want my own Amy Pond.

Baird! Go kidnap an attractive, redheaded scottish lass for me.

Season 2 had narry a mention of them. Had Cybermen however.

The Borg of the Doctor Who universe.

PapaGeorgio 05-05-2010 07:16 PM

Yeah, every time Doctor Who beats them just makes them less of a threat really.

Gray 05-09-2010 06:23 AM

Not entirely liking Pond's boyfriend, just something about him. Which makes me sad that he is going to be on a few more adventures with them!

Don't think they'll be back this season, but I'm sure they will be back, you can't kill off everyone too strongly straight away, you'll run out of enemies!

The Mackem 05-17-2010 03:59 AM

Amy's Choice was another good episode and another interesting storyline to run alongside. It feels like it is building to something massive.

Fantastic episodes, good writing and brilliant episode and series stroylines are making this even better than it already was.

Downunder 05-17-2010 06:00 AM

Amy Choice was a bloody good episode, the pace and suspense was spot on. Apart from the Dalek episode, it's really hard to fault this series.

Dave Youell 05-17-2010 04:35 PM

I think it's safe to say that Matt Smith has done quite well considering the massive shadow he has to come from.

He still looks like a young Gordon Ramsey, but I can forgive him that.

I can agree, Rose was more written to be liked a lot, to be super special. Acting and all that wasn't anything special. But Martha is def pretty close to her in the rankings.

BTW today's episode wasn't anything special. Kind of weak, not huge on human looking aliens. Could pick up next week though, we'll see.
