I didnt buy a huge 1080p HDTV and a dual tuner HD DVR so I could watch streaming tv on my 15 inch laptop.

It has potential. The cast has good timing so far and I was surprised at the Talk Soup guy. Parks and Recreation should have been like this i.e. not mockumentary.

Parks has its moments, but it reminds you way to much of the Office. The main lady is basically a female Michael. And the pacing of the show is just to much like The Office. Normally you can find similiar shows like that, but The Office's pacing is different then a normal sitcom, so to recreate that within an hour of The Office on the same network just hasn't worked completely for me yet.

Its is Just THE SOUP!, Jeez.

But yes, Joel McHale is the goods. So is John Oliver. THis could be good.

The cold open to Park and Recreations this past week was awesome, BTW..

2nd episode was hilarious. Loved the random spanish rap at the end.

The Spanish Skit was hilarious, I only wish I could have saw it all. Another good episode, def loving this show.

I have the first 2 eps DVR'd. Hopefully I can watch them sometimes this weekend.

I wouldnt get my hopes up too much, as the ratings were off 1/4th from the debut and doesnt look to be getting better.

That being said, the 2nd episode was actually funnier than the 1st.

I assumed this was just going to be a throwaway show, but I've been impressed every week. The cast is already clicking together very well.

On a somewhat related note, I finally watched Parks and Recreation. I really liked it.

Yeah, I saw the previews, and didn't think about it ever again. They showed the first two episodes after Raw then, so I caught it while working on a paper, and I was hooked. I'm pretty surprised how good it is.

Ken Jeong's tantrum during the psychological testing was tremendous. Why are more people not watching.

I love this show. I was glad to see an episode focused on Troy. Abed talking about sitting this episode out made me laugh out loud.

I like that show. It's trippy how it's so like aware of itself. It makes all these commentaries throughout about how cliche it is and how formulaic it is, and it makes it refreshing somehow lol.

Troy is one of the best characters on TV right now.

Troy and Abed need a spin off or something. All the characters on this show are awesome. Really digging it so far.

Season finale was tonight. <3 this show so much, so many hilarious little moments. And the twist at the end was good thought saw it coming obvs. Can't wait for next season.

Loved when Abed turned the lights off the the study room because he wanted a season finale moment.

I think Jeff and Annie's thing is a bit creepy

A little bit but it's been hinted at the whole second half of the season so I was actually expecting it.

Never got into P&R (Parks and Recreation), but C (Community) is the shiz (shit).

I think I am going to start watching this. I've been wanting to "try" Modern Family too, because people always say good things about it.
Something about it doesn't interest me. Maybe I'm just assuming it's more like a sitcom type show than it really is.

Either way, Lost is ending this weekend and The Office is probably ending next year. Those are the only shows I watch, which means I'm "in the market" for some new blood.

Give me some great recommendations.

Modern Family is indeed excellent. The Middle is pretty good too.

The "documentary thing" from The Office is used for virtually every comedy show now. And it will probably stay that way for a long time.

In 20 or 30 years people will probably look back on it as an era, like the studio audience and a laugh track.

It took me like 5 years to realize she was the chick from Happy Gillmore.
The hair style throws her off completely. She was still hot but she's looking way better these days, which is amazing considering that was 15 years ago.

What shows besides the Office, Parks and Rec and Modern Family use the "doc" format? Might have to check em out

I guess I'm exaggerating actually. It seems way more dominant than it actually is I guess, but it will probably continue to get used a lot in comedy shows because of The Office.

Traditional comedy shows are dead besides on CBS. That's probably a good thing anyways since I haven't watched a new show like that in 10 years

Does the Big Bang Theory use a laugh track? I've never watched it, but it's a CBS show so I've always assumed it does.

I think CBS might have finally gotten away from it, I'm not sure, but their shows still have that stagnant studio feel to them.
They probably do have the laugh track though. CBS loves the old fashioned sitcom format.
It's almost a great idea to stick with it, because it almost makes what used to be commonplace their own brand. I could probably pick a CBS show out of a lineup without knowing. ABC and NBC are more similar.
They obviously had success for years with Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens and sitcoms had been dead on the other channels.

Better off Ted was pretty good on ABC. It's been canceled after the second season tho. Used to get really good reviews but it just never took off in the ratings.

A lot of the best shows get cancelled. Lots of my favorite shows over the years didn't even make it a full season.
The fact that Freaks N Geeks gets fucking cancelled in it's first season is beyond me.
It's hard for a great TV show to get over with the masses and stay on the air against tons of reality crap

Freaks N Geeks and to a lesser extent Undeclared just didn't reach a big enough audience, despite being awesome.

Yet Glee is a huge hit. I hate America.

I'm not too upset about Glee being a hit, because I think Jane Lynch deserves the success, but it's def. not a show I would watch.

It probably is, unfortunately. Especially considering how "mainstream" Glee has seemingly become.

just started watching this a couple of days ago out of morbid curiosity. i say morbid curiosity because this show had the misfortune of being aired first on channel ten over here, who are notorious for their dodgy programming choices. so instinctively during its run on ten i avoided it like the plague, but i've been real low on stuff to watch lately and i knew some of you guys rated this show so i gave it a bash and holy shit, i was so pleasantly surprised. such a good show. love these characters. about to start on season 2. got through s1 in like a day and a half. got hooked straight up. so many good throwbacks and references. i feel like if you missed episodes on tv and tried to keep up it would be nowhere near as good because of so many throwaway references.

either way, love this show.

should i give modern family a bash? at the moment it's suffering from the same fate as community did on account of the channel that shows it.

This show getting ignored at last year's Emmy Awards was one of the biggest travesties of all time. The Paintball episode should have given them the nomination for best comedy series of the year and it should have taken the trophy. Modern Family Vs. Modern Warfare. Modern Warfare wins!

It also introduced me to Alison Brie who is unbelievably hot.

yeah loved the paintball episode. so many wonderful die hard references.

troy is one of the best characters on tv. he and abed together are amazing. loved the giant picture of young chevy chase in pierce's bedroom. only got like 9 episodes left to get through before i'm caught up and have to pace myself again, boooo.

You know, I love how, for being an episodic show, it really sticks with things that happen in other episodes. Chevy in the wheel chair, the face Troy gives when he finds out Shirley may be pregnant, etc.

I also loved how in the one episode, they had Abed in the background scenes talking and helping the pregnant girl, and eventually helping her give birth, without ever really mentioning it.

This clip, by itself, really makes no sense.
