Favorite Luchador from mid 90's WCW?

I was looking at some random WCW matches from the mid 90's and who was your favorite luchador from that time? I remember Lizmark jr use to chokeslam other crusierweights (first time seeing someone other than a 7 footer doing it), Super Calo had some great matches against guys like Ciclope and Damian 666 on Saturday Nights, but my favorite luchador from that time period had to be La Parka.

Seth82 09-17-2009 11:47 PM

Gotta go with Psychosis or Juvi Guerrera

Kami Raki 09-17-2009 11:50 PM

Rey Mysterio Jr.

Jannettyzilla 09-17-2009 11:55 PM

Psychosis. Followed by La Parka.

Skippord 09-17-2009 11:58 PM

The Chairman

Blitzkrieg

Kapoutman 09-18-2009 12:06 AM

LA PARKA

Gertner 09-18-2009 12:20 AM

Blitzkrieg was the Batista of the cruiserweights: hurt every other match.

La Parka was my fav, followed by Psicosis.

Funky Fly 09-18-2009 12:24 AM

Psychosis, La Parka, Blitzkrieg, Rey Jr, Eddie, Chavo, El Dandy, Silver King...

There were so many good cruiserweights, fuck I miss WCW.

Gertner 09-18-2009 01:04 AM

Hector Garza was pretty sweet

Droford 09-18-2009 01:14 AM

Damien - I wonder if he ever saved up for that mask?

Dorkchop 09-18-2009 01:20 AM

Rey and Juvi were my favorites. Out of 15 replies only 2 mentioned Rey. Come on. I know TPWW doesn't like him right now, but I'm sure a lot of you loved him until he took his mask off.

redoneja 09-18-2009 01:20 AM

Didn't Super Calo do a Super Victory Roll from the top rope? Pretty sure he did. That plus wrestling in sunglasses made him pretty bad ass.

He wrestles with his sunglasses on because the sun never sets on being a badass.

I liked Rey, Psychosis, and Juvi. I started to get big on Blitzkrieg, but he wasn't on enough for me to get behind him.

LA PARKA

Seth82 09-18-2009 01:45 AM

Super Calo and Hector Garza were two of my other favorites

The Chairman of WCW ......... La Parka.

If it was any cruiserwieght then Jericho, Ultimo Dragon, Eddie Guerrero (WWE era more than WCW era), and Jushin Liger would be my other choices but topic only wants WCW Luchadors.

KIRA 09-18-2009 02:58 AM

Damn lets see La Parka, Psychosis Silver King, Juvi Drink, Super Calo Eddie,I mean the surly evil eddie with the awesome horn music not the face eddie.

btw did anybody ever get to see more than 2 Villianos at a time?

chris jericho when he wore juvi's mask

Fignuts 09-18-2009 03:07 AM

Pretty sure Ultimo Dragon is considered a luchadore, since his style and persona were developed there, and he's wrestled in mexico more than anywhere else.

So yeah, Ultimo.

On a technicality yes, but by the time he was in WCW he had already adjusted his style to be more mat based with minimal air time.

Juvi Juice

DaveBrawl 09-18-2009 09:46 AM

La Parka, Psychosis, Ultimo (if we're counting him), any Villano's.

I loved all of them though.

Seth82 09-18-2009 11:20 AM

Oh man I cannot believe I forgot the Villanos

They were awesome

Anybody Thrilla 09-18-2009 12:28 PM

I was definitely a huge Rey Misterio Jr. mark. I'm also happy to see all the Super Calo love in here, because I thought he was great. Loved his theme song too. Juvented was the man for his 450 splash. Psychosis was pretty sick. Those were probably my favorites.

Silver King and El Dandy looked like a couple of fucking dorks, so I loved them, naturally. The Villanos looked like dorks, and I thought they WERE dorks, so I wasn't really feeling them.' Ciclope was odd. La Parka was OK....overall, a great time to be a WCW fan, though.

Anybody Thrilla 09-18-2009 12:32 PM

Here's Super Calo's theme for no good reason:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lwnDkQ7eQJ4&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lwnDkQ7eQJ4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

DaveBrawl 09-18-2009 12:36 PM

Excuse me Thrilla, but the Villano's were not dorks, and La Parka was far from ok, he was amazing. Don't be so ridiculous.

Seth82 09-18-2009 12:38 PM

Wasn't a big fan of La Parka's myself either

He was entertaining if you were 10 perhaps

Savio 09-18-2009 12:39 PM

Chavo was lol

Anybody Thrilla 09-18-2009 12:42 PM

La Parka was sorta funny with the dancing and the chairs, but I never saw him as a real threat to anyone.

The Villanos looked like miniature versions of Los Conquistadors.

Also, try making this sentence not sound ridiculous...

"Your winner....and NEW CHAMPION....Villano IV!"

Anybody Thrilla 09-18-2009 12:43 PM

When Chavo wad Eddie's bitch, it was fantastic. I think that's when I started to like Eddie. He was a dork too before his heel turn. Anybody know where I can get my hands on one of those "EDDIE GUERRERO IS MY FAVORITE WRESTLER" t-shirts?

DaveBrawl 09-18-2009 12:43 PM

I could do it, but I'm awesome. Maybe if you were a little more awesome you could do it too. Think about it.

Jealousy is not a good trait Thrilla.

That's what SuperbrawlSteve would say.

DaveBrawl 09-18-2009 12:55 PM

Well listen to one of us then and stop trying to be what you can never accomplish being.

Bad Company 09-18-2009 01:03 PM

Juvi then Rey, but between all the WCW cruiser-weights, they created the most exciting wrestling I've ever seen.

DaveBrawl 09-18-2009 01:12 PM

That's right, there is already a Villano V so you can't be that. I'm sorry, but you'll have to start with VI.

IRodC 09-18-2009 01:13 PM

LA PARKA!!!!!!

There is no other answer, his dance is timeless also he was the biggest cruiserweight yet he still could perform a lot of high risk maneuvers.

Anybody Thrilla 09-18-2009 01:15 PM

Obviously there have already been plenty of other answers in this very thread, you son of a bitch.

DaveBrawl 09-18-2009 01:27 PM

Hey!! You settle down and let the man have his opinion.

Lucha Libre isn't simply about "high flying" tho. It's also about rapid catch as catch can wrestling. Mat based wrestling is a big part of it too. There are a ton of luchadores(some even mentioned in this thread) that don't leave the ground that often.

And even in wcw, he still did his asai moonsault in just about every match, so that part of it was still in his game as well.

Nicky Fives 09-18-2009 04:44 PM

La Parka

Vastardikai 09-18-2009 05:40 PM

La Parka

Psychosis (He's a high flyer of the highest magnitude)

El Dandy (Who am I to doubt him?)

Blitz 09-18-2009 07:12 PM

It's quite apparent that my favourite luchador was Silver King.

Seth82 09-18-2009 07:18 PM

Lizmark Jr fucking rocked simply for the fact he made it into a WCW video game

redoneja 09-18-2009 07:27 PM

If I had the power to get WWE to produce one DVD, it would be a collection of luchador/cruiserweight matches from WCW. No need for a documentary, just the matches.

redoneja 09-18-2009 07:28 PM

Maybe include a brief bio of each luchador though.

Wolfpack423 09-19-2009 01:13 AM

Mid-90's has to be Rey Mysterio or Dean Malenko for me, but 1998 was Billy Kidman all the way, he was a franchise player. I hate how WWE makes it like Rey, Kidman, Benoit, Malenko, Jericho and other stars weren't being pushed. Just because you're not the champion doesn't mean you aren't getting pushed. I know Benoit won it in 2000 for a day, but the rest of these guys were a major part of WCW. My favorite is on the Monday Night Wars DVD where he says you have all this talent and you're not doing anything with it. Then he says I mean look at the WWE you have Edge, Christian, The Hardyz. At that time they were in tag team status. They weren't at the top at that time. Rey was being pushed just as much as E&C and the Hardy Boyz at the time. He had a World Heavyweight Title shot against Ric Flair on an episode of Nitro in 1999 and they almost had him win.

I think that shirt has disappeared into oblivion along with the Monday Night Jericho shirt. Both classics. Neither to be found anywhere.

Somebody should email WWE.com and see if they want to do another run of those shirts.
