Fignuts 09-24-2009 10:53 AM

So when do we start getting avatar rewards in games?

Cause I'm not paying for any of that overpriced garbage, and it looks like the free section won't be updated anymore.

Drakul 09-24-2009 11:05 AM

Yeah the free section wont be updated anymore. The Avatar Rewards were supposed to start with 'Splosion Man but they haven't got around to updating it yet. So really, any game from now that's not too late in development should be able to put Rewards in. It's not a must though so some games may not.
I think the concept will flop. No one will put free Avatar clothing in as unlockable when they can sell it instead.

Fignuts 09-24-2009 12:30 PM

I wonder how sales are doing with AM.

I usually have some extra points lying around, so I wouldn't be against buying avatar stuff, but not at the price it is at now. But if stuff isn't selling, they might be forced to drop the price.

G 09-24-2009 05:13 PM

Are you sure you don't want a $5 lightsaber? Can't believe people would buy that. :nono:

Funky Fly 09-24-2009 07:06 PM

I want the lightsaber, but $5? I can get my dick sucked for free, so what makes you think I'm gonna pay $5 for a virtual lightsaber?

Shaggy 09-25-2009 01:36 AM

I was hoping with the release of Madden you could purchase a jersey of your favorite team for your avatar....I would have purchased that. Other than that I really dont see myself spending cash on anything else.

Drakul 09-25-2009 01:46 AM

I was thinking something similair would have been down when SvR 2010 comes out. Either let people win items or buy them on the market place. It would be cool to unlock the World Title as an accessory once you 100% the game.

Fignuts 09-25-2009 01:53 AM

I'll be honest. I'm not enough of a star wars nerd to pay the prices they are asking for a lightsaber or clonetrooper armor. But I am a big enough star wars nerd to buy boba fett armor at that price.

Drakul 11-03-2009 01:13 AM

The Avatar Awards are up now. 'Splosion man only has 4 awards total. 2 for males and 2 for females. I've only unlocked the first male and female award (they unlock togethor) which is a white t-shirt with the 'Splosion man logo and orange trim.
To see the other Award, I have to complete multiplayer.

The upcoming Halo Waypoint will also have a "stack" of Avatar Awards.

Hopefully this is the beggining and we'll get something better than just a t-shirt with a logo in the future.

RoXer 11-03-2009 09:56 AM

l4d2 is supposedly having the shirts the characters wear as awards

G 11-03-2009 10:11 AM

wtf is a Halo Waypoint

Disturbed316 11-03-2009 10:54 AM

Lips: Number one hits also has them.

Theres a dashboard "app" coming soon called "Halo Waypoint" I thought it may be for some kind of Halo spin-off game at first but it just tracks your Halo stats etc.

Ermaximus 11-03-2009 11:38 AM

Yea Halo Waypoint tracks all your stats on Halo 3 and ODST I believe. I think they will be charging 800 MSP for it though. Not sure.

G 11-03-2009 12:04 PM

that's dumb

but microsoft will be cashing in on it that's for sure

Fryza 11-03-2009 12:18 PM

LIPS and ODST both have Awards.

With 'Splosion Man, those are the only games at the moment with Avatar Awards.

I think something like that is what the awards should be. It would be great to unlock a Niko/Johnny/Luis costume once you beat GTA IV or to get a title belt or World Cup as a prop through a sports game.

T-shirts with logos on them are rubbish. It's only just starting so maybe the good stuff will come along soon.

Fignuts 11-04-2009 01:47 AM

Niko just wears regular clothes.

Drakul 11-04-2009 02:02 AM

I meant his default clothes he wears at the start of the game and in most of the promotional material. The brown jacket and stuff.

James Steele 11-04-2009 02:19 AM

After owning my XBox 360 for a couple of weeks now, I realize how Microsoft is making so much money. Seriously, I have to BUY modes for NCAA and Madden? I have to buy extras to be able to use Franchise or Dynasty mode fully? WTF

G 11-04-2009 07:51 AM

dlc and overpriced proprietary hardware

That's Microsoft for you. They'll pinch us for every penny we've got. Hell when the Crash Course dlc game out for Left 4 Dead, Valve gave it away free on the pc, but Microsoft said fuck that and charcged 6 bucks for it on XBL. $6 for a 2 part chapter and 12 achievements? Fuck you MS, seriously fuck you.

Kane Knight 11-04-2009 09:18 AM

What's amazing is they were talking about patching in material for prior games. Either they changed plans due to the pofitability, or never really planned it in the first place.

And LOL @ blaming Microsoft for you having to buy game modes.

Fignuts 11-04-2009 12:07 PM

Yeah, that would be EA's doing, james.

RoXer 11-04-2009 05:45 PM

Yeah, that's also on PS3, bud.

I still have to use Microsoft Points to buy fucking shit. I imagine they are working together on that one.

James Steele 11-04-2009 07:26 PM

Its not a horribly huge issue as I don't really care to buy every little thing they come out with for the games, but why the hell would anybody spend that kind of money on the avatar things. I saw the ad for the college teams stuff, and it blew my mind. I might splurge to buy some of the XBox Arcade games though.

EDIT: The "free trial" of Family Game Night is the biggest bullshit ever. You get to play the game for like 30 seconds. WTF

Damn that Microsoft, making Sony do these things...

I never had to pay for extras on my PS2!

You'll have to use dollars to buy the MS Points.

You'll have to use dollars to buy those extra on PS3.

Please tell me you understand this.

If you want an demo worth try try out Bioshock, Half Life 2, and a whole bunch more. Theres a lot of good demos out there that are worth the time to dl them.

I bought all the Hasbro stuff a few weeks back when it was on sale. You'd like it if you had online friends to play with.

I have a feeling you won't like it.

Kane Knight 11-05-2009 09:52 AM

Most of the games are also fun to play offline.

Scrabble's dumb, because you can see everyone's letters, but otherwise...

What do you mean?

Ermaximus 11-05-2009 01:50 PM

RoXer, any idea when they TF2 update on the 360 is coming out?

Also, they need to release some TF2 avatar stuff.

G 11-05-2009 02:05 PM

3 weeks from never?

Ermaximus 11-05-2009 02:22 PM

R.I.P. Starcraft Ghost.

James Steele 11-05-2009 03:58 PM

Yes, I understand that both Sony and Microsoft are making money off making people buy shit that should be for free. I have a 360, and not a PS3 so I used Microsoft in my post. I apologize I didn't cover the entire video game market when I posted my mini-rant on the stupidity of having to buy game modes and fucking clothes for an avatar.

RoXer 11-05-2009 04:01 PM

You don't have to buy the clothes.

Also, there is a redeem code on the back of the instructions for Madden for Online Franchise.

G 11-05-2009 04:05 PM

The new MW2 UAV prop is pretty neat. Not $3 neat though.

RoXer 11-05-2009 04:07 PM

Your mom is pretty neat. Not $3 neat though.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I should have mentioned them specifically, but I am talking about AFL Legacy mode in Madden, and extras such as "Recruiting Reports" etc in Dynasty mode in NCAA Football.

G 11-05-2009 04:19 PM

ur stup1d

RoXer 11-05-2009 04:22 PM

You can run a successful dynasty without even needing that bullshit. They're nothing but pointless extras that only idiots would buy.

The AFL Legacy might actually be worth it if EA did a little extra with the presentation. Put the games in black & white, turn up the treble on the announcer voices so it sounds like the 50's, things like this.

It's also a half-assed idea that isn't worth our money anyway.

Funky Fly 11-06-2009 04:57 AM

Annual titles in general are a cash grab anyway. Because they know people will buy in droves every year (and also specifically because development time is reduced to a year), the companies that put these out tend to focus more on bells and whistles as opposed to actual improvement of the game most years. Look at the Smackdown vs Raw series for proof of that. If that game came out every other year, it's be much better each time around.

But you gotta admit, if not for Microsoft, they wouldn't be publishing every year....

DAMN YOU BILL GATES! DAMN YOU TO HELL!

Fignuts 11-18-2009 08:05 PM

Left 4 Dead 2 has some.

Beating all the campaigns gets you two t-shirts. Rescueing the gnome gets you a t-shirt, and killing 10,000 infected gets you a med pack.

Funky Fly 11-18-2009 11:50 PM

Fucking hell, more games need to do this. Like it's something so little, but it can add to sales if you give people cool shit.

thecc 11-18-2009 11:55 PM

I liked how Beatles rock band included a free avatar shirt. More companies should do that.

Somehow I got the medpack and havnt killed 10,000 yet....also rescued the gnome already.

When it says you have to beat all the campaigns for the shirts do you need to beat them all on a certain difficulty because Ive beaten them all but havnt gotten the shirts yet.

Fignuts 11-20-2009 11:46 AM

Nevermind on that. Gamefaqs cheats section screwed up. You get the medpack for beating all the campaigns.

If you go to rewards in avatar marketplace, it tells you everything.

For anyone interested, there is a Christmas gift prop on the Avatar market place which is accidently priced at 0 MSP. You should go DL it before they fix it.
This is for the UK. Not sure if the US will have it to.

Kane Knight 12-12-2009 10:53 AM

Is it accidentally?

Anyway, it's free in the States as well.

G 12-12-2009 11:21 AM

This it?

Kane Knight 12-12-2009 11:29 AM

That would be the one.

Yeah, that was the game for me anyway that garnered me my first freebies. Pretty sweet deal.
