Best/Worst TV Spinoffs
OK.. Discuss the best and worst TV Spinoffs
I gotta go with Frasier off the bat as it was a damn good spinoff of Cheers and lasted about as long |
I liked Xena.
The cleveland show was pretty bad so far.
Best: King of Queens was pretty good.
Worst: Joey. I hated friends and the Joey spin off was terrible too. |
King of Queens is fucking terrible.
Frasier is the best IMO. |
What did King of Queens spin off?
Stargate Atlantis was decent enough.

Family Matters is a good spin off.
Quote:
Which is also fucking awful. |
My favourites would probably be Daria, Law and Order: SVU, and the Colbert Report.
At the risk of sounding DAMN iNATOR-esque, Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego was really upsetting to me. |

I don't think it was a spinoff of everybody loves raymond, they just did crossovers.
King of Queens is mint.
Happy Days (Which itself was a spinoff from Love, American Style) had several spinoffs:
Laverne & Shirley Mork & Mindy Joanie Loves Chachi |
Frasier is probably the best.
I really like King of Queens. Joey was pretty bad. |
The Jeffersons were a great spinoff of All In The Family
However they had some other spinoffs that were bad such as Gloria, Archie's Place and Maude Law and Order SVU is a fantastic spinoff as well |
King of Queens is pretty damn good.
Under rated spin off that got cancelled too fast was The Critic from The Simpsons.
Hey wait!
Best Spin-off EVER: The Simpsons! (spun off from The Tracey Ullman Show) |
The Love-Matic Grandpa
I did not like 60 Minutes II.
Quote:
Saved By The Bell, Sesame Street, and The Muppets are all great spinoffs
Fuck off, if you think anything about KOQ is 'mint' other than Leah Remini's backside you're probably on crack, cracka
I like Patton Oswalt, but King of Queens is bad.
Never gave a rat's ass about KoQ.
Here's my summary of what I saw of KoQ: "I'm a fat fuck with an unbelieveably hot wife that's way too good for me. Now LAUGH Mutherfuckers!" |
Quote:
I have a shirt with Sherman Helmsly on it.. |
King of Queens is horrible
can't believe it lasted as long as it did |

They took characters from the old show, put them in a new setting, and gave the show a different name. That's pretty much the definition of a spin off.
The majority of mine are cartoons from when I was a kid. These are all what I consider to be good spin-offs.
Freakazoid! and Pinky and The Brain. (Animaniacs) Taz-Mania and Tiny Toon Adventures. (Looney Tunes) The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. (The Super Mario Bros. Super Show) Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, I Am Weasel, The Powerpuff Girls and Courage the Cowardly Dog. (What a Cartoon! Show) Porridge and Open All Hours. (Seven of One) Rab C. Nesbitt. (Naked Video) Phoenix Nights and Max & Paddy's Road to Nowhere. (That Peter Kay Thing) |
NCIS is sweet, and Boston Legal.
So mad at guys talking shit on King of Queens.
Joey was pretty bad.
I quite like Criminal Intent over SVU - the earlier seasons, anyway. As they progressed I'd say they switched.
Not sure about this Trial by Jury and Law and Order: UK business, though. Although to be fair, I haven't ever watched either. Just the premises alone bother me I guess. Can UK cops even carry guns? I thought they couldn't. It has been years since I last watched 'The Bill'. |
Oh also Torchwood was fucking horrible.
Also I don't really care for either CSI spin-off. If I had to pick one that was slightly less mediocre than the other, I would probably say New York over Miami, but only because David Caruso bothers me. NYPD Blue flashbacks. Traumatising stuff.
ALSO The Critic was not a spin-off of the Simpsons, it was just created by two of its writers. Completely independent show.
Best: Frasier, NCIS, Angel, Diff'rent World
Worst: Trapper John M.D., new Knight Rider |
'After MASH' was awful.

Not really.. A spin off is taking a character (or characters) and doing that.. They pretty much just revamped the show with a mostly new cast, making Zack the star instead of Ms. Bliss.. Saved By the Bell the College Years or Saved by the Bell The New class are spin offs.. |
Lone Gunmen from X Files was just a really terrible idea and I guess 9/11 didnt help any.
That 80s Show was a pretty lame attempt. Though I don't know if that can technically be called a spin-off.

Awesome Spin off: Melrose Place from Beverly Hills 90210.
King Of Queens is like 40 times better than Everybody Loves Raymond
so I guess that's a good spin off |

Frasier is the exception and that's one of the reasons I thought it was so good and the best spin-off of an American show by a long way. Porridge and Open All Hours are great spin-offs but if I go by Shadows post, Porridge and Open All Hours wouldn't count as spin-offs because Seven of One was designed to try out different concepts for a Ronnie Barker sitcom, which gave birth to Porridge and Open All Hours. Red Dwarf is a spin-off of Son of Cliche, an old radio show. So I'd say that, Frasier, Porridge and Open All Hours (if they count) are the best. |
The Hills
Angel
Battlestar Galactica.

I thought What A Cartoon! was just a show full of cartoon shorts, and those cartoons I listed received a lot of positive feedback from fans so they gave them there own shows. :-\ Kindof like Joey. During Friends, the character was pretty popular so they just gave him his own show after Friends finished. The major difference being that those cartoons were awesome, and Joey simply wasn't. |
Dallas - Knots Landing
Knots Landing was supposed to be a good spinoff back in the day Can't really remember it |

yeah KOQ only crossovered everybody loves raymond. they are both pretty cack but i still watch them loads for some reason.
frasier is probably the best. i'll be honest, if KOQ had someone more like roseanne and less like leah remini i would have lasted about 1 minute. |
it was weird seeing a young leah remini as carla's daughter in cheers too :'(
speaking of, didn't they do a "the tortelli's" after cheers but it bombed?
Golden Palace
I was looking things up and I saw this, which I never even knew about:
Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain |
Oh yeah. That pretty much put an end to the Warner Bros "Saturday Morning Cartoon" show era.
I never saw that shit, thank god.
It wasn't that bad.
Jamie Kellner is responsible for the utter shit that was Pinky, the Brain and Elmyra. He also killed Frakazoid and WCW.
And who the crap said Freakazoid was a spinoff? It was never on Animaniacs. |
I think I might be one of the only 3 people in the world that enjoyed Joey.
There were 2 more?
Quote:
Oh, wait. This just means there were 3 viewers. Nevermind.
NCIS is the worst show ever
Quote:
sorry but the dialog is complete shit

I remember there was a show Three's a Crowd that was a spinoff of Three's Company and it didn't last long.
