Word going around the WWE locker room is that the reason CM Punk lost the World Heavyweight Title last night is because of heat on him stemming from an incident on the recent European tour.

The story goes that there was in issue with how Punk was dressed and The Undertaker tried to nicely tell Punk that he was the World Champion and was representing WWE overseas so he should dress better. Punk said something to the effect of “what about John Cena?”

This got back to WWE management and they took it as Punk thinking he was a bigger star than John Cena. The decision was then made to take the belt off Punk at Hell in a Cell and put the match as the opener. This may not be exactly how the story went down but it’s how it was told to a source. Please take this as a RUMOR for now.

The problems with Punk and losing the title have been the talk of the SmackDown locker room for the past two days. As noted last night before the show, several on the SmackDown brand were under the impression that Undertaker was winning and he did. There are some who are wondering why ‘Taker was given the title considering his limited schedule and health problems with the feeling that it was too soon to take the title off Punk.

Word is that WWE is planning on going with a Batista vs. Undertaker feud for the World Heavyweight Title.

In all seriousness, I'm not going to believe this. With all the HEAT that Punk has gotten in the past he still manged to stay relevant and not be completely buried.

I just find it funny the second he loses a big match the HEAT rumors fly right in.

Yeah, I call bullshit on this story. It completely clashes with past stories where Vince McMahon has allegedly kept Punk out of suits and stuff because he feels he doesn't look like a "Superstar." It just also doesn't make sense from a business sense of view. "You know what, Punk? You were rude, so we're going to completely damage the credibility of our show...that will show you."

The Undertaker probably went over because he is the face, and had been built up by The Rock and promos to be this inevitable force of destruction in the match. If Taker had lost, fans might have been pissed because they ordered the show. They'd need a new face to get behind, and it does sort of damage a lot of The Undertaker's mystique.

CM Punk is the heel -- it is his job to get beaten up and send the fans home happy. While that doesn't mean he can't be made credible, Punk is very fortunate where his size allows him to lose and then bounce back very easily. Keep in mind this was a Hell in a Cell against The Undertaker. If Punk can't lose that match, what can he lose?

The shorter length of the match was probably to protect Undertaker as much as possible. During that time, they did have Punk kick out of The Last Ride -- something Taker would not have let happen if he was upset with Punk. Also, with all the plotting about the Hell's Gate being legal again, if they wanted to punish Punk, wouldn't it have made sense to have him tap like a little bitch?

Not only do I not yet believe there is heat on Punk, but I believe that Punk will be the one to win the World Heavyweight Title from The Undertaker. It could happen even before the Bragging Rights PPV, but I think to get the most from an Undertaker title reign, Punk betrays Taker while he is World Heavyweight Champion at Bragging Rights in a tag team main event. That takes us to Survivor Series, where they are part of opposing teams. Then we could get The Undertaker vs. CM Punk vs. some other guys in a TLC Match at, ugh, TLC for the World Heavyweight Title. I think this may be where Punk wins back the belt -- likely the same night Shawn Michaels wins the WWE Championship.

As for the story itself, a) Punk is always supposed to "have teh heatz" or be "in the doghouse" so this sounds like another load of shit. Additionally, as much as I don't like Punk, I don't think he's stupid enough to lip off to the Undertaker. Sounds like some idiot trying to explain the positioning of the match and Punk's loss.

I'm pretty certain they line up a whole heap of buckets with random words and names and take in turns pulling them out until a story apears from it. :y:

Thats fair enough in a way. But you could argue that of he couldnt do a main event calibre match, he shouldnt be in a main event. He DEFINATELY shouldn't be carrying the strap.

Vince was overheard complaining about their failure to make stars for the future. Right there was your chance Vince. You could have CM Punk go over 'Taker in a HIAC match, you cant put someone over much better than that.
