With the Hell in a Cell match now meaning nothing, what's next?
After the Hell in a Cell PPV, I feel that they completely killed the Cell gimmick. Both Taker/Punk and Cena/Orton did NOT need to be in the Cell. DX at least used the gimmick to the storytelling of the match, but really, for me, the PPV completely killed the Cell. It used to be THE match to end feuds, much like the steel cage match was before this.
Really, what's next? What should be the next "big match"/"feud ender" match? Because, again, I feel that they completely destroyed anything the Cell really had and it's just another gimmick match now. It doesn't feel special at all to me anymore. Also, do you agree that they killed the gimmick? |
WWE Disqualification: where every match ends in a DQ :shifty:
|
I don't think the gimmick is 100% killed, but they have to wait a while for the next Hell in a Cell match to occur.
They could go back to the cage match for a gimmick match ender, or a ladder match depending on the participants. However, I am always a fan of an Ironman or Last Man Standing match to end feuds, because to me it gives a true ending for the feud. |
and yes, even though I didn't watch it at all... they have completely fucked up the HIAC gimmick

Apparently it's now a No DQ Iron Man Match. |
TLC's gonna be ruined in T minus 3 months

so can the entire roster come down and beat on Cena?

Ironman, not really, because the Ironman, in my opinion, was about wrestling (and we know that's a bad word) and all the possible falls. And they've ruined it by making it no DQ, so there are only two real ways to score a pinfall. And Last Man Standing does work, but really, nothing ever really compared to the Cell. They aren't the same level. |

Both have the same effect.

I do not like these gimmick PPVs either. |
The Cell was the next level from LMS and Ironman, though.
|
ok lemme rephrase....can the entire roster go to the ring and kick Cena's ass?
|
everyone used to pop when a hell in a cell match was booked because they knew it was either going to get bloody, some big bumps were going to happen, or both of those
|
We will never have a big bump anymore because the raised the Cell, so there is no way someone takes a bump another 10-15 feet up, or how ever high they raised it.

as far as i can tell, no wrestler has ever died taking a big bump. (no owen hart jokes please), even when new jack tried to kill vic grimes with a big bump he failed.

The Shane bump vs Blackman was higher, but he had a crash mat. That's fine. But I know for a fact you're talking shit you've seen in the indies where jack shit is taken care of. |
I'm officially going to call you Sadistic from now on, just so you know.
Everyone should follow my lead. |
you don't need a crash mat, just lots and lots of tables
|
Oh, so you can land on the table, have one jagged piece pierce your back? Or maybe have it break wrong and drop you on your neck?
The first one has happened. The second one, I don't know, but it's a legitimate concern. Safety should ALWAYS come before a "cool spot". Anyone who would rather see someone risk their life with little to no safety has no respect for the business. That same thing goes for the ones preforming. Wrestling isn't about falling from high places, I'm sorry. |

so xero you didn't cheer and 'go crazy' when mick foley bumped from the top of the cell and once more when he went through?
|
When I was a kid, yeah. It was a good spot (don't consider that whole thing a match). It doesn't take away from the fact that it was ridiculously dangerous and shouldn't have been done. Foley was an idiot.
And the bump THROUGH the Cell was not supposed to happen and was a very bad bump. |
They'll start pulling out WCW gimmicks.

kareru, why are you such a moron?

and you're the idiot for not appreciating when a wrestler does risk his life in the name of entertainment |
If some moronic modern art douchebag kills himself in the name of art I'm not going to applaud him for it. He's a fucking idiot.
Same concept applies here. |
ask yourself this.
how many wrestlers have died in the ring taking a regular move? and how many have died taking a big bump/spot? |
The risk is too high when taking the big bump.

maybe its because on the big moves you take more care about the landing etc etc |
You can't really compare them anyway. Of course there are going to be more injuries (using death is just fucking stupid) from normal moves because they're used more frequently.
Logically, it's MUCH more dangerous to take a ridiculous bump with no mat or safety net than to take something where you and whoever you're in the ring with have control. |
so we have established that taking ridiculous bumps with no mat or safety is dangerous
|
The Risk vs Reward is not worth it. THAT'S where this conversation ends.

I agree with everything posted in this thread

Controversial

I kinda wish that high profile gimmick matches used to end feuds were more feud specific than just "well they've been feuding for x amount of time, let's put them in the Cell". I feel like that starts to develop into the gimmick matches becoming the focus instead of the matches themselves (as I addressed in my thread about gimmick matches).
But I completely agree that the awe of the Cell has been killed off. Now it just feels like any other match. I don't necessarily blame that all on the fact that the Cell has been overused in the last few years (although that is a major factor). I also feel like none of the feuds that have gone to Hell in a Cell have been "Cell worthy". The only match that should have been a HiaC at the PPV was Cena/Orton but even that felt rushed in my mind. |
They ought to bring back the big-ass heavy-barred steel cage, refer to it as the "Ultimate Cage" or something, and pass it off as being far more dangerous than the fence cage. I always thought it looked mroe intimidating anyway.

Hopefully the WWE will realize they've destroyed the legitimacy of the HIAC and will start booking Exploding Ring Death Matches, Barb Wire Rope Matches and Flaming Table Matches.
