College Basketball 2009-2010 Thread

starting it up.

The top recruit in the country just comitted to Carolina.

Michigan State definately a team to watch. I'm pretty sure they brought back almost everyone from last year.

Go Orangemen, Charlotte 49'ers and Iona Gaels (the last two ain't going anywhere)

RP 11-14-2009 08:15 AM

ROBBIE HUMMEL IS A GOLDEN GOD!

Also, me and my best friend bought season tickets to Butler basketball. They have a Final Four caliber team. Tons of experts picking them. I wont be able to make every game though so i'm selling like half of them.

RP 11-14-2009 08:17 AM

And the reason why we didnt get Purdue season tickets was because ..

1) they were sold out

and

2) Butler is like a 10 minute drive from where I live. Purdue is about an 80 minutes or so.

BUT PURDUE BASKETBALL WILL DOMINATE THIS YEAR! ROBBIE HUMMEL IS A GOLDEN GOD AND CHRIS KRAMER WILL BE PLAYING PRISON RULES!

Loose Cannon 11-14-2009 08:25 AM

Michigan is back to being ranked

RP 11-14-2009 08:32 AM

Big Ten is stacked

No doubt the best conference in the country.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-14-2009 11:29 AM

Ohio State playing Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse is going to be nuts.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-14-2009 01:54 PM

UNC's non conference schedule is ridiculous. Playing at Ohio State, at Kentucky, vs. Texas in Dallas, and Michigan State.

OssMan 11-14-2009 02:10 PM

Don't even know anything about NC State any more

OssMan 11-14-2009 02:11 PM

GEORGE MASON

Supreme Olajuwon 11-14-2009 02:24 PM

Dayton vs. Creighton right now. Pretty good game plus it rhymes. Flyers are loaded this season. Chris Wright is a baller.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-17-2009 05:40 PM

Today is 24 hours of college basketball on ESPN. They've got basketball on all day. They had a 6 AM tipoff this morning for Monmouth and St. Peters.

Temple is up on Georgetown right now

Much better than just doing cupcakes for record padding like Florida did 2 years ago (had an RPI in the mid 200s) just to try and sneak into the Tournament. If UNC wins all or 3 of them and have a great conference record, they will end up as the overall #1 seed. It also helps their RPI in case they start dropping a few games since those 4 teams are strong enough to balance out a few weak losses.

SammyG 11-17-2009 06:45 PM

This 24 hour marathon on ESPN is sick. Duke just killin' it right now.

Emperor Smeat 11-17-2009 07:03 PM

I think this is 2nd year of ESPN doing the 24-hour college hoops day and its been one of their best ideas ever. Lots of good matchups and shocked at how Kentucky barely got away with a win.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-17-2009 07:11 PM

Duke is just pummeling Charlotte. This is hard to watch. Sorry LC.

SammyG 11-17-2009 07:14 PM

That UCLA game was nuts too. UCLA sucks.

RP 11-17-2009 07:18 PM

Yah, ESPN knows College Basketball for sure. I love the 24 hour idea. I wish they did this once a week.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-17-2009 07:40 PM

I don't think ESPN could ruin college basketball if they tried. It's really just the perfect sport and the perfect atmosphere.

SammyG 11-17-2009 07:54 PM

k, is it March Madness yet?

Supreme Olajuwon 11-17-2009 08:17 PM

Listening to Bobby Knight call games really makes me want to play basketball.

Loose Cannon 11-17-2009 09:11 PM

This 24 Hour thing is definately amazing. lovin it. Fucking Duke slaughtered Charlotte today though.

BCWWF 11-18-2009 12:53 PM

College sports are always a little hard to get into early on because of the excess of terrible non-conference match ups.

Emperor Smeat 11-18-2009 04:58 PM

As well as too many sports are occurring at same time College basketball starts such as college football nearing the end of the season and starting the bowls, NFL in the middle of its season, NBA still early in its season, and toss up between NHL and MLS/Soccer occurring at same time.

Nothing beats College Basketball during the Tournament month though, especially the 1st week with a ton of games played.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-18-2009 11:41 PM

I dunno what the fuck you people are talking about but tomorrow features 3 (THREE) games between top 25 teams. North Carolina vs. Ohio State, Georgia Tech vs. Dayton, and California vs. Syracuse

RP 11-19-2009 09:22 AM

Man, Seth Davis has the Bulldogs down as a Final 4 pick too. Butler is stacked this year foreal. I think Butler and Purdue could make it to the Final Four in Indy this year. And you bet i'll be getting tickets to that shit.

Anyone else planning on going to the Final 4 this year? We should do a meetup.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-19-2009 09:44 AM

Was thinking about it. It's only 2 hours to Indy. I don't really have an excuse not to go.

RP 11-19-2009 09:46 AM

It would be a weird duo

I am admittedly not anymore a general fan of college basketball, in that it doesn't excite me to watch teams that I don't have a vested interest in at this point in the season. I follow Mizzou, and now that I live there again I follow Minnesota as well. But Mizzou opened the season against Tennessee-Martin. You've got to be pretty hardcore to get into that.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-20-2009 09:19 AM

I guess it's easier to be a college basketball junkie down here. We've got Cincinnati, Xavier, Dayton, Ohio State, Miami OH, Kentucky, Louisville, Indiana, and Butler all within a 2 hour drive.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-20-2009 09:20 AM

BTW 3 more top 25 matchups today

Dayton vs. Villanova
Syracuse vs. North Carolina
Ohio State vs. California

McLegend 11-20-2009 08:40 PM

Yay St. Joe's

ClockShot 11-20-2009 09:45 PM

O-Men knocked off the Tar Heels today.

They're looking like this year's Pittsburgh for the Big East.

MICHIGAN STATE FOR NATIONAL CHAMPS, BABY!:D

Oh, and also LC, we are definitely not returning everyone from last year's team, and we are decidedly smaller, which is going to make defense somewhat more of an issue this year for us, particularly rebounding, as we found out against upset-minded Gonzaga the other day. The one guy I can think of off the top of my head, and he was huge, both in-game and IRL from last year was Goran Suton. There's a few others who aren't here from last year's team, but I feel as though anyone could look for themselves on our team's website and see who we are and are not returning.

RP 11-23-2009 04:10 PM

If Purdue vs Tennessee is not any channel tonight, i'm going to be irate. How the hell can that big of a game not be on TV.

RP 11-23-2009 04:11 PM

rumor has it that it will be on Fox Sports. But comcast doesnt list it.

RP 11-24-2009 12:11 AM

Wooo

Loose Cannon 11-24-2009 12:40 AM

that was a horrendous shot at the end by Tenessee. You're wide open and you can't even hit the fucking rim?

RP 11-24-2009 12:52 AM

One of the best games of the season and ESPN has no coverage of it whatsoever.

RP 11-24-2009 05:55 AM

So damn happy Purdue won last night. If shit shakes up this week with the top 5, they might be #1. Who knows.

RP 11-24-2009 05:55 AM

I seriously dont remember the last time Purdue was #1 in basketball. I dont think they were even #1 when Big Dawg was here.

RP 11-24-2009 05:57 AM

The highest ranked Purdue has ever been was #2 in 1987-88.

owenbrown 11-24-2009 12:44 PM

Kentucky has weak home games(Cleveland State this afternoon, NC Asheville on Monday) before hosting UNC on Dec. 5th and then playing UCONN on Dec. 9th at Madison Square Garden. They better get on the right page before then

The Big Ten is such a crapshoot this year. So many contenders. I could easily see the champion having 5 or 6 conference losses.

RP 12-04-2009 08:42 AM

HUH?

Purdue is not a crapshoot sir. They might dominate the Big Ten.

Leaving for the Butler vs Ohio St game in 20 minutes. Bulldogs need this one badly.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-12-2009 01:54 PM

Ohio State's lack of depth really came out today. Only 5 guys have scored in this game so far.

owenbrown 12-12-2009 01:58 PM

10-0 for Kentucky

Savio 12-12-2009 03:41 PM

Emperor Smeat 12-13-2009 09:56 PM

Happy that URI beat Boston College but not going to celebrate as much since last few years URI has done great in non-conference but either struggle in A-10 league or the A-10 tournament and lost out on NCAA tournament as a result. Big win though since it was a beat down 80-69.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 12-14-2009 12:56 AM

Supreme Olajuwon 12-19-2009 12:58 PM

Yeah, most likely the time keeper is going to be punished since Butler was the home team and got the benefit from the bad clock.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-19-2009 05:50 PM

The weird part is the refs probably got the call right, but it is pretty ballsy of them to be able to say that there wasn't .2 or .3 seconds left. But again I think they got the call right so good for them.

RP 12-19-2009 08:32 PM

I was there and it was rukus. THEY BROUGHT THE RUKUS LARRY!

The Xavier players were so shitty and had to be escorted off the court. I didnt actually see the clock and havent seen the replay.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-19-2009 08:41 PM

That's two straight games Xavier players have tried to fight the other team.

RP 12-19-2009 10:37 PM

Boilermakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RP 12-19-2009 10:38 PM

I'm off work the 1st of January. Purdue vs West Virginia. This could potentially be a matchup between two top5 teams.

Savio 12-19-2009 11:43 PM

Andy Rautins got low-blowed in tonights game but i cant find it.

CWK 12-21-2009 12:53 AM

Since I live in Kansas City, I am proud of my Men's Basketball #1 Ranked Kansas Jayhawks. We have got one of the best in Xavier Henry and Kansas will win the national title in 2010 just like they did in 2008.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk.

Purdue vs West Virginia tommorow. Best game of the season. Calling it.

Fuck me i'm scared of Devin Ewbanks. Imagine if this dude stayed at Indiana.

Chris Kramer's coming out party tommorow. Not that people dont know about him, but they if they dont know about the best defender in the country, Chris Kramer, they will tommorow.

Huge win by URI against Oklahoma State (part of a 1-and-1 deal). Played inside the Mohegan Sun casino's arena.

RP 01-05-2010 10:21 AM

Minnesota vs Purdue tonight. Really tough game, but Purdue should be fine since it's at home.

Plus Chris Kramer is a Golden God.

Emperor Smeat 01-05-2010 01:15 PM

NCAA really needs to change the rule about school sanctions if it only involves a player no longer in the school. Today, USC basketball team is upset that because Mayo won't ever be punished, they have to be punished by missing out on a potential post-season for stuff they never did.

I still expect to see my currently #8 ranked Michigan State Spartans take the Big Ten Conference, maybe the Big Ten Tournament (which, if anybody will care or recall, was a huge debacle for us last year...), and quite possibly win a National Championship. They showed last year that they know how to take a loss in the conference tournament on the chin and move on to become National Runners-up who only really lossed because they were outclassed, and there's nothing wrong with that, except if we're lucky enough to reach another title game this year they need to be hungry for it this year and play like it.

BCWWF 01-16-2010 02:46 PM

Wishing the Gophers had a little more to show in their third season with Tubby Smith. They have some cool players, but the team still doesn't generate the buzz that a "big-time" team would. Aiming for fourth in the Big Ten doesn't exactly thrill me.

Mizzou is playing well against Oklahoma though. Opening up the Big 12 season 3-0 with wins over No. 10 K-State, and road wins at Texas Tech and Oklahoma would be very, very nice.

DAMN iNATOR 01-24-2010 12:07 AM

Wow, hell of a game between State and Minnesota yesterday afternoon...was honestly thinking in the early half when the Gophers started to expand their lead that we'd be 6-1 by the end of the day. Fortunately though, the Spartans found just enough in the tank in the last 1:27 of the game to pull off a 65-64 victory.

U of M worries me this Tuesday. They used to not be able to play for shit for the longest time and were a perennial laughingstock. The Spartans better not go into Ann Arbor Tuesday expecting a cake-walk like they've had in the last several years though, or they will lose for sure.

Watching the Kentucky/South Carolina it's so abundantly clear that John Caliperri cheats to get these players.

I know everyone does, but this is so obvious.

John Wall is great btw.

RP 01-28-2010 09:17 PM

I cannot imagine anything better then Big 10 basketball. Purdue vs Wisconsin was amazing tonight. Physical, had 3 huge runs and two players, one from each team were absolute superstars.

E'tuan Moore is probably the best 2 guard in the country and was outstanding in the clutch. Had like 14 points in the 2nd half.

Wisconsin had this big guy named Nankiv or something. I forget his name cause i'm drunk, but he shot lights out from the 3 point line. 7/8 and had 25 points.

GREAT GAME

cant wait for Purdue vs Michigan St.
